…but the Indian ‘angel’ of a popular international lingerie brand is without a visa

Supermodel Monikangana Dutta, who by joining the league of international supermodels like Heidi Klum, Giselle Bundchen, Jessica Stam and Alessandra Ambrosio as brand ambassadress for a coveted lingerie brand, is mighty upset. This Indian “angel” — that’s what these lingerie models are known as — who was to take off for the US and be a part of the brand’s 2011 campaign this month, has been stranded for an O-1 visa. The delay may keep her back till April.
Monikangana, who played Hrithik Roshan’s love interest in Guzaarish, is unhappy but hopeful that things will work out.
A trained Kathak dancer, the supermodel also has her eyes on Bollywood as she received appreciation for her acting skills in her debut role, but says, “While films is where I would like to head, my passion remains modelling.” Having walked for many celebrated designers in Mumbai and Delhi including Manish Malhotra, Wendell Rodricks and Neeta Lulla, Monikangana has the entire fashion fraternity in India rooting for her to make it big abroad. If the visa works out, she will be the first Asian angel of the brand.

Guess what? Apparently, Sonam Kapoor is not the only girl who will romance Shahid Kapoor in Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut Mausam.
The film stars a newcomer Aditi Sharma who also plays Shahid’s love interest. The girl whose identity was being kept under wraps, was last seen in Subhash Ghai’s Black And White.
Sonam Kapoor Aditi SharmaA source said, “Aditi plays Shahid’s love interest in the first half of the film. She has two songs and quite a few romantic scenes with him. But eventually Shahid leaves her for Sonam. Aditi is currently in Chandigarh shooting for the film.”
Apparently, the role she plays is a little bitchy. The source continued, “The makers of the film wanted a girl with a vamp-like face. Pankaj Kapoor was very keen on casting Monikangana Dutta but she has signed a contract with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So it didn’t work out.”
The producer Sheetal Talwar didn’t deny that there is another girl besides Sonam but emphasised, “Aditi is playing a role in the film but it’s not a parallel lead or second lead.”

A figure in black sheer top and short black skirt, seducing you till you relent is none other than Monikangana Dutta’s. The lady, who is a supermodel and now has acquired the brand new status of a Bollywood actress after her debut in Sanjay Leela Bansali’s last Guzaarish, is also the very first Indian to be a Victoria Secret Angel.
Speaking to FHM she made no bones about the fact that she worked hard to be where she is. “It happened because I’m talented and I made an effort. People have been very nasty from day 1 because I know I’m really talented. I have a gut feeling that I will make it big.” And if you thought this glam chick doesn’t know any home chores, she did clarify as she said “I can make maggie and salad and veg food, Indian food is a hassle- the roti belna and all. When it comes to keeping her hot body in shape, Monikangana Dutta relies heavily on the dance form

Monikangana Dutta’s love affair with dancing started as soon as she could stand on her feet. What started as grooving to Bollywood music, soon evolved into the more classical form of Kathak.
But given her demanding modelling schedule, she was left with no time. Now after a gap of a couple of years, she has taken up the art form again to keep herself fit.
Her earliest memory of dancing takes her back to the days when Disco Dancer was a chart buster. “I was a baby when I grooved to the tune of I am a disco dancer. That is the only song I knew,” she laughs. When she was a teenager, her favourite song was Is this Love by Whitesnake. “I wish I could dance like the girl in the video. I fancied everything in that song,” she admitted.
As she grew up, she started copying Saira Banu’s dance steps, graduating to Sridevi and then Madhuri Dixit. “I was quite fascinated by Saira Banu as she looked like a doll. Her tight churidars impressed me so much that I nagged my mother to get me a copy of those dresses.
I remember this science teacher in my school called Monika who used to wear those churidars. I kept wondering how she moved around in those figure hugging dresses. My fascination still continues,” she laughs.

Monikangana Dutta will say is that shooting for some of her scenes was far from comfortable. “I was shooting for the first time, and in front of the entire crew. I wasn’t comfortable at all. But Hrithik got me to relax. Most importantly, this is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film and everything is shot aesthetically,” says Moni.
The nature of her scenes with Hrithik may also be why Moni was linked to the actor during the shoot of the film. “Once people figured there was no truth to that, they set about to find another link-up. Now I’m supposedly seeing Aditya Roy Kapoor, who’s also in the film. While he’s told the media we’re good friends, the truth is that I barely even know him. And definitely not on a personal level. I’m surprised that I haven’t yet been linked to Sanjay Leela Bhansali,” she laughs.

Post-Saawariya Aditya’s role was first offered to Ranbir who had reservations about sharing screen space with Aishwarya and Akshay.
Veejay-turned-actor Aditya Roy Kapur who also plays a major role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, has found unexpected support in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who stars with him in both his post-debut films.
While Aishwarya plays Aditya’s mother in Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, she stars as his confidante and sympathetic shoulder in Guzaarish, two contrasting roles with the same actress that could create a confusion of perception, though it may be recalled Jaya Bhaduri played Sanjeev Kumar’s daughter and wife in Parichay and Koshish, respectively.
Aditya is totally unfazed and far from confused about his diametrically opposed parts with Aishwarya in the two films he’s doing with her.
“Sanjay Bhansali Sir’s and Vipul Sir’s film approach and treatment to the characters are so different, my response to the scenes is decided the minute I reach the sets for the two films. So I’m not confused by differing roles with Aishwarya in the two films,” says the young actor who made his debut last year in London Dreams as Zoheb, the Pakistani member of Ajay Devgan’s rock band.

Vanity and Hrithik Roshan are made for one another. The vain actor has been known to be extremely cautious of how he appears, what he wears, when he shaves.
Also, of late, directors have become equally paranoid about the ‘look’ of their films, the pastel of their sets, the get-up of their cast.
Only recently Farah Khan had some miscreants hauled up for attempting to photograph an ‘item number’ in her forthcoming film. This therefore is quite a treat, and nobody got arrested either.
It is known that Hrithik Roshan plays a magician in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next Guzaarish. The actor was shooting for a song with Monikangana Dutta on February 26 at Yash Raj Studio.
While Hrithik was in a magician get-up with a three-piece-suit, a hat and an earring, Monikangana was in a black gown with a huge silver choker on her neck.
The shooting went on for three days and Bhansali’s guards were on high alert for any Peeping Toms with mobile phones and cameras. But we couldn’t resist the urge. So here’s a sneak peek…
