Mollywood’s superstar Shaikh Shafique, who takes on the tobacco mafia in ‘Malegaon Ka Superrman’, is dying of throat cancer in real life

0Arshad Warsi, who had had a fallout with director Kabeer Kaushik, has patched up with him and is acting in his next
Mauli Singh (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 04, 2011)
It’s truly patch-up season. Arshad Warsi, who had a fallout with director Kabeer Kaushik more than a year ago, has mended bridges with him finally. The actor will now star in his next, Maximum.
Arshad, who worked in two films with Kabeer, Sehar and his first home production Hum Tum Aur Ghost, developed creative differences with him during the latter. Reportedly, Kabeer wanted to make Hum Tum Aur Ghost a serious film, while Arshad wanted it to be a light entertainer.
Arshad Warsi Kabeer KaushikArshad was very vocal to the press about his differences with the director. The film, which failed at the box office, added fuel to the fire.
Kabeer admits, “Arshad and I have an eight-year-old professional relationship.
Yes some creative differences stemmed while filming Hum Tum Aur Ghost, but we never had a fall out.
We lost touch for a while after the release of the film.”
So who extended the olive branch first? “It was organic. I had this great script and I thought he suited the role perfectly. Arshad said yes. He plays a negative role in the film.”
Arshad didn’t revert to our call.
Army chief will be at Dev Saab’s premiere
0Dev Anand’s cult classic Hum Dono is releasing in colour on February 4 this year.
The veteran actor invited the army chief as the main guest at the premiere, which is likely to include a lot of B-Towners as well.
Dev AnandAnand says, “Since the film pays a tribute to the Indian army, during the premiere of Hum Dono in 1961 I had invited Lieutenant General Choudhary, who was the area commander in Southern Command then.
He was an important man. He asked me to come to the Gun house in Bombay.
I went to meet him and had a few drinks and drove to the main Eros theatre. Now 50 years later when I am holding the premiere of the film again, I have invited Lieutenant General Sanjeev Chopra to be the chief guest.
He is the area commander in Southern Command. And he will come. I am very thrilled.”
Kangna’s hostel experience
0Kangna Ranaut never went to college. But recently, she got a chance to experience campus life while shooting for Tanu Weds Manu.
A source close to Kangna says, “In the film, she plays a girl from Delhi University. So, it was important for Kangna to get acquainted with the lifestyle of Delhi University.
Since Kangna has never experienced campus life in real life as she started working at the age of 16, she decided to get the taste of it before shooting the film.
Many female students at the university live in the women’s’ hostel as paying guests. Kangna lived in one of those for almost a fortnight to get a feel of their lifestyle. The production team of the film arranged for her to live in one and took required measures to protect her identity.”
Kangna who stars with R Madhavan in the film says, “The character of Tanu is rooted in Delhi University. I stayed there and it helped me in my performance.
Till date I am thankful to the girl who hosted me and was my roommate. We ended up becoming friends.”

Mauli Singh (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 28, 2011)
How has life changed post Tere Bin Laden?
I wrote an email to my director Abhishek Sharma stating that he has completely changed my life and for the better.
Was Bollywood always on your mind?
Like everyone else I also grew up watching Dilip saab and Mr. Bachchan’s films and later on Aamir and Salman and Shah Rukh Khan. I started as a model and also did TV shows but didn’t enjoy acting then. After that I got busy with my music albums. Then I wanted to do something bigger and better so I came to Bollywood.
We keep hearing about the rift between Imran and you?
Whenever I read such stories I call up Imran and ask him what’s happening. He says, ‘don’t worry people try and create rift between actors, don’t take it seriously.’ We have a very good relationship. We went out partying recently.
You didn’t come for his wedding?
My brother-in-law was getting married the same day. In fact, I just got a text from Kiran (Rao). She is hosting a party for Imran and Avantika’s wedding.
You were experiencing a lot of visa issues.
Not at all. I have a multiple entry visa. Normally it takes 40 days to renew it. I am thankful that the officers grant me the visa pretty quickly.
Do you see yourself shifting base to India?

Sunny on an all-time high
0The success of Yamla Pagla Deewana seems to have given a fresh lease of life to Sunny Deol’s dipping career. His tentatively titled film Happy New Year with T-Series, which was put on hold for two years, picked up again.
He has recently finished a schedule of the film and has started shooting for Chandra Prakash Dwivedi’s Kashi Ka Assi. A source close to Sunny informs, “The T-Series film was supposed to go on floor in 2009 but was kept on hold for two years as the producers were unsure of Sunny’s market position at that time.
But seeing the promos of Yamala Pagla Deewana and hearing the good buzz about the film the producers decided to roll the film and cash in on that.”
The director Vinay Sapru however gives another version. “Mr. Bushan Kumar believed in the script and cast from the beginning regardless of the fate of Yamla Pagla Deewana. Last year, we couldn’t shoot due to recession,” says Sapru, on returning from the US after completing a 25-days-schedule with Sunny Deol and Kangna Ranaut.
Nargis can now walk Hindi, talk Hindi
0Imtiaz Ali loves challenges. In Love Aaj Kal he made a Brazilian girl speak and dance like a desi Punjabi kudi. This time he has cast Nargis Fakhri of Czech Pakistani origin in Rockstar.
Speaking Hindi was obviously a tough task at hand but Nargis too is a determined player. She has surprised everyone by picking up the language quickly.
A source from the crew informs, “Nargis’ command on Hindi was not good and she faced a lot of trouble mouthing the dialogues initially.
Though she was assigned a Hindi teacher and Imtiaz was also helping her with her diction, she would take very long to shoot a scene.
However, on a recent schedule she surprised everyone with her fluent Hindi. She has been working very hard on her Hindi and has shown a lot of improvement over the last few months. Her diction and pronunciation is clear now.”
Like it taught Katrina Kaif, Bollywood has trained Nargis too. It doesn’t spare anyone.
