Kareena hasn’t converted to Islam, but she is Begum of Pataudi-Sharmila Tagore

Why did Saif and Kareena not attend the Marrakech Film Festival that you were a part of? Saif is shooting with Tigmanshu Dhulia in Lucknow for Bullet Raja. They are trying to finish it in one go and then take a break. I am glad, because coming for the Moroccan fest could’ve been a distraction. You come here, drink and party… the film that Saif is doing is very intense. It is set in a rural background and he has worked on the accent. Also, Kareena’s film Talaash has just released.

How is Kareena, the daughter-in-law? Nothing has changed. She is the same person and I like her a lot. She is very calm. I saw her during Tiger’s illness in the hospital. It was very easy to be with her. She is gentle and quiet and not intrusive. I get along very well with Babita and Karisma also. Karisma is a lovely person. I shared the platform with her at a recent event. She speaks so well. She is actually coming into her own. I saw Dangerous Ishhq; she is a good actress, but the film was awful. English Vinglish is a good film; films don’t run because you are a star. If films could run because of performances, everybody’s films would do well. It is the director who makes the film.

Has Kareena converted to Islam? She hasn’t converted, but she is now the Begum of Pataudi. He is the Nawab, so Kareena is the Begum. Saif is not comfortable with it. But I say why shouldn’t one take traditions seriously. He says people may mock at him saying, More >

An emotional Saif Ali Khan talks about being invited by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in London for last night’s tribute dinner honouring his late father Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi

Upala KBR (BOMBAY TIMES; June 16, 2012)

June 15 was a very special moment for the entire Pataudi family — Sharmila Tagore, Saif Ali Khan, and sisters Soha and Saba. A special sit-down dinner was hosted yesterday to honour the late Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) — home to the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground — at its historic Long Room in London.

Saif, who is currently shooting in Istanbul for Race 2, took special permission for a day off to fly to London for the event. Apart from his family, his fiancée Kareena Kapoor too attended the dinner. He returns to Istanbul today. The dinner will be followed by cricket matches at Oxford and Winchester on June 22 and 23.

In 2007, the MCC had commissioned a trophy for a Test series between India and England, named the Pataudi Trophy, in honour of Tiger’s father, the 8th Nawab Iftikar Ali Khan Pataudi.

Speaking to BT from London, Saif informs, “The relationship between the MCC and the Nawabs of Pataudi goes back to the time when my grandfather had worn the MCC colours on England’s tour of Australia in 1932-33. Later, my father captained India at Lord’s in 1967. It was a huge honour for us to be present at the tribute dinner at the Long Room. It’s considered to be the most revered room in the cricket world, and my mother More >

With Saif, Soha, Sabah and Sharmila Tagore, she’ll attend a memorial dinner in honour of Tiger Pataudi hosted by an elite cricket club

Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 12, 2012)

The wedding may be a few months away. But Kareena Kapoor is set to join the Pataudis for a very special trip to London. Mirror has learnt that along with Bebo, Sharmila Tagore, Saif, Soha and Sabah will be in the city to attend a dinner hosted by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in memory of the patriarch Mansoor Ali Khan ‘Tiger’ Pataudi who passed away on September 22, 2011.

“The MCC is holding a very special dinner in my father’s memory at the Long Room in Lords,” Soha told Mirror, adding, “We are all going.”

The relationship between the London club and the Nawabs of Pataudi goes back a long way. While the senior Nawab of Pataudi wore MCC colours on England’s tour of Australia way back in 1932-33, his son, Tiger Pataudi, captained India at Lords in 1967. In fact, in recognition of the family’s contribution to cricket, MCC commissioned The Pataudi trophy in 2007.

And thus the family members went out of their way to attend the special memorial service held by the club. According to a source, while Saif Ali Khan who has been busy with his forthcoming film Cocktail took a few days off, sister Soha excused herself from the Saheb Biwi Gangster sequel schedule in Gujarat to attend this dinner.

What’s more, Mirror has learnt that Saif’s beau Kareena Kapoor and Soha’s boyfriend Kunal Khemu will More >
