Bigger stars are more grounded-Daboo Ratnani

0

Priyanka Jain, Hindustan Times Mumbai, March 29, 2011

Dabboo Ratnani, one of the most respected celebrity photographers, came out with his 12th annual calendar this year. Having worked with some of the most glamorous faces, Ratnani says, “In all these years, I have noticed that the bigger the stars, the more grounded they are. They are confident of what they are doing. Once they trust they are in the right hands, they are open to suggestions and do exactly want you want them to.” The key, Ratnani says, is in getting the stars to trust you and “to do your job well.”

Whether it’s Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s beauty, Kajol’s carefree attitude, Amitabh Bachchan’s energy, Shah Rukh Khan’s dynamism or Hrithik Roshan’s charisma, Ratnani has captured it all over the years. He talks about his five favourite pictures from his portfolio:

‘Photographer’s dream’

Before I became a photographer, I felt it would be an achievement if I could shoot Aishwarya once. She’s every photographer’s dream. A stunning model, she has perfect features and looks equally good in a simple sari or an expensive gown. It’s about the attitude she wears.

The light in this picture is coming through the grill. It’s not flat and that explains the composition’s dramatic effect. No matter how many photo shoots she does, she’s always enthusiastic about the next one. She will go to any extent to make a picture work, and is open to suggestions.

Rana Daggubati says his protectiveness of her doesn’t amount to a relationship

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; March 29, 2011)

Rana Daggubati, who is currently in the news for breaking up with south siren Shriya Saran and dating our own Bipasha Basu, doesn’t shy away from controversies. Of course he insists that too much is being read into his act of chivalry a few days ago in Hyderabad. Says he, “Bipasha was there to promote our forthcoming film. Naturally I was very protective about her and wanted her to feel safe. But that hardly amounts to a relationship. I would be chivalrous with any girl who is in my company. We Naidus are made that way. We protect women.”

Rana, who bagged the role of the Dum Maaro Dum baddie because of his raw sensuality, admits that even before he came into Hindi cinema he was already Hyderabad’s “pin up boy.” When it comes to his personal status though, the actor says, “I’m very much single. Bipasha is a senior. I respect her a great deal. She went out of her way to make me comfortable while shooting, that’s it.”

He admits that Bips and he even shot some steamy scenes for the film. “Again you have to look at the whole thing as a part of story telling. There were 300 others on the set when we were shooting these scenes.”

What about Shriya? Surely he was dating her? Rana says, “I have known Shriya for 12 years, but I haven’t been dating her. She’s a good friend, nothing more.”

Producer Bunty Walia is organising a live concert to honour Amitabh Bachchan’s acting career.

The Forever Bachchan show, which incidentally coincides with Amitabh’s 69th birthday will be held in Mumbai in October.

The show will feature all of B-town’s contemporary leading men dancing to their favourite Bachchan song.

Amitabh Bachchan

A source tells us, “This is the brain-child of Walia. When Amitji learnt of this, he was embarrassed. He quipped, ‘Who would want to dance to my songs? Don’t they’ve anything better to do?’ But Walia was adamant. It has taken him a year to convince the Big B that the concert is a good idea.”

Reportedly, Shah Rukh has chosen Khai ke paan benaras wala from Don (1978). Ranbir has opted for Saara zamana haseeno ka deewana from Yaarana (1981), which also happens to be Bachchan Jr’s pick.

When contacted, Walia said, “It’s really too early to talk about this. Nothing has been confirmed yet. It is my dream project. We’re a long way from going on stage.”

Music composer Pritam’s busy schedule forced him to opt out of producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s project.

The film, which will be co-produced by Shabina Khan and directed by Prabhu Devaa, will feature Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha.

Our source says, “Pritam is the top music composer in Bollywood right now. He is being signed on for all the major films.

Pritam

It is obvious that he would be over worked. With him working day in and day out and committing to all the top banners, it is obvious that he will have to turn down some of the work coming his way.”

When contacted, Pritam said, “I really like Prabhu Devaa and Shabina too. Since I am overworked, I feel the need to slow down and take on limited projects right now.

However, because of my relationship with Shabina, I will be doing one song for the film as a guest composer.”

Anurag Kashyap is all geared up for his next directorial venture.

The thriller, which will be produced by Shahnaab Aalam, will feature TV actor Rahul Bhat (not Mahesh Bhatt’s son) as the lead actor.

Rahul Bhat

After several interactions with Bhat, the director felt he understood the role in its entirety.

When contacted, Kashyap said, “I have known Rahul ever since my tough days when we lived next door to each other.

I only discovered his potential much later. This thriller’s lead character has a close resemblance to Rahul’s own life experiences and so I am trying to implement it as closely as possible in the script.”

Bhat tells us, “I am delighted to be a part of Anurag’s next and am definitely gearing up for the silver screen after my time off. I am looking forward to work on Anurag’s style of cinema.”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Anupama Chopra’s daughter, Zuni, is all set to publish her first book. The 10 year-old prodigy has named her collection of poetry and short stories Land of Dreams.

Our source tells us, “Zuni has been writing poems and short stories for a long time now. She is very creative.

However, she has chosen to follow her own path and not film direction like her father. Initially, she was reluctant to launch her book, as she feared that people might think she got this opportunity only because of her famous parents.

However, irrespective of her family background, her talent was recognised by a Pune-based publisher.

He decided to give Land of Dreams a launch pad. Nita Ambani, who is very close to the Chopras especially to Zuni, will be launching the girl’s book, which is slated to release this Friday.”

Vinay gains 12 kgs to be with Lara

The actor piled on oodles of weight for his role in Chalo Dilli

Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 29, 2011)

Considering Vinay Pathak had to be paired opposite Lara Dutta in Chalo Dilli, one would imagine the actor to shed some weight for the film.

But one sees Vinay as a fat man, who put on 12kgs of extra adipose for his role.

Vinay added, “It is film with contrast characters. I was given around three months time to put on weight. Luckily, I had an experience earlier to put on weight.

But the major task will be to lose it after gaining so much.”

Rockstar actress Nargis Fakhri was actually shown the door on the reality show America’s Top Model when she put her pretty foot in her mouth

Mumbai Mirror Bureau (March 29, 2011)

The team behind Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar may be trying hard to keep their ‘find’ Nargis Fakhri under wraps.

But the half-Pakistani, half-Czechoslovakian 5’7 ½” beauty has already had her run in with reality TV after she was dumped twice.

The 27-year-old swimwear model had participated in America’s Next Top Model in Cycles 2 and 3, hosted by supermodel Tyra Banks.

The show, which pits several aspiring models against each other in a hunt for the hottest thing on the ramp, had invited Nargis for her fab body and exotic looks.

A resident of Queens, New York, Nargis was the first Pakistani girl to be on the hugely popular show, but her catwalk was cut short by her Quixotic honesty.

Fakhri, who looked and sounded confident before the camera, reportedly put off the judges with the air of familiarity with which she greeted them.

Worse, Nargis told a stunned Tyra, that she was not really “interested in fashion or modelling” -duh? While eliminating her, Tyra said she did not really have the drive for modelling.

Maybe Tyra had not seen Nargis’s scorching bikini shots for Atul Kasbekar. Or had the smoky-eyed girl already trained her sights on Bollywood by then?

Salman hindering Katrina’s career?

Salman, it seems, is doing all he can to hinder his ex-girlfriend’s career

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 29, 2011)

Salman Khan seems to have been offended by Katrina Kaif’s open declaration of her love for Ranbir Kapoor and how she would never go back to her ex-flame.

Out to avenge his lost emotions, Khan is now making sure that he proves to be a major hindrance in Kaif’s career graph.

According to our source, “Salman Khan has done everything in his capacity to make Katrina a leading star.

However after their break up and her alleged relationship and break up with Ranbir Kapoor, Salman is out to seek revenge.

He has already asked people close to him not to work with Katrina. If anyone dares to work with her, clearly, he will not be a part of the project.

In fact, during the shooting of Ready, an A-lister actress was needed for a cameo but Salman suggested Zarine Khan’s name in spite of Katrina being in the discussions.

Salman, it seems, has also told Kabir Khan that he would not want to work with Katrina in his film and Priyanka should step in.”

Another source added, “Salman has never been like this but he is definitely not happy with Katrina’s behaviour. It was evident during the shoot of Bigg Boss when Salman had taken digs at her. The anger has only multiplied.”

However a source close to Katrina said, “There is no tension between Salman and her and everything is fine. She still considers Salman as one of her closest friends in Bollywood More >

Chitrangda Singh has bagged a role of a sexy female mutant in the Hrithik Roshan starrer

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 29, 2011)

Chitrangda Singh is surely going places. And by that we don’t just mean London, where she was shooting Rohit Dhawan’s Desi Boyz recently.

The dusky damsel has been signed as Bollywood’s first female mutant, yes, that’s right, opposite Hrithik Roshan in the much talked about Krissh 2.

The actress from Delhi, who first got noticed in Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2005, has come a long way since then.

Apart from her earthy beauty, which made her an overnight sensation, her off-beat roles have been much acclaimed.

Chitrangda, who landed in Delhi after her London shoot, on Sunday night, was expected to rush to Mumbai this week and finalise her clothes, hair, look and even language for the mutant’s role in the Rakesh Roshan film.

Apparently Chitrangda’s transformation will be so drastic that even she will find it hard to recognise herself.

A source close to the project confirms, “There are two leading ladies in the film. Priyanka Chopra, who starred opposite Hrithik in Krissh (2006), will be back in the same role. The other major female protagonist will be played by Chitrangda.

They needed someone who could look earthy and ethereal. Both Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan decided Chitrangda was the best bet for the part of the sizzling female mutant.”

Apparently Rakesh Roshan decided on Chitrangda, after seeing her More >
