Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 22, 2011)

It was a close call for filmmaker-turned-actor Rituparno Ghosh.

Recently, while shooting for a screen adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Chitrangada in Kolkata, Rituparno was seriously injured when a camera fell straight on his forehead. Thankfully, he was shooting in a real hospital with real doctors.

A source explains what transpired, “It was a sequence showing Rituda being wheeled into the operation theatre.

Since Rituda is, for the first time, simultaneously directing and playing the lead, he was on the stretcher giving his shot and instructing the cameraman to take close-ups of his face.

This was when the camera fell on his forehead. There was blood all over his face.”

Rituparno was knocked unconscious.

But after a CT-scan, several tests and some stitches, he was declared out of danger.

Done with keeping a low profile, Kangna Ranaut throws open her doors to Bollywood

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 22, 2011)

Kangna Ranaut is all geared up to make her 24th birthday a star-studded event. Rather than taking her party to the usual nightclubs, she is calling her guests over to her Bandra residence.

While previous birthdays were low key, Kangna has decided to reach out to B-town’s A listers this time.

A source tells us, “Kangna has always celebrated her birthday, as she feels special on the day. It has always been a low key celebration with only close friends.

However, this time she is riding on the successes of her recent films and is in the mood to celebrate.

It’s her 24th birthday and rather than having it at some night club, she decided to celebrate it at her residence. She has called many people from Bollywood.

The list includes Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and wife Maanyata, Tanu Weds Manu producer Sunil Bohra, co-star R. Madhavan, David Dhawan, Arjun Rampal and others. It will be quite a party at her residence.”

With all the media speculations over her strained relationships with people in the industry, this guest list has certainly come as a surprise.

In an interview with a Mumbai Mirror reader on March 13, 2011, Kangna referred to herself as an “outsider” and claimed that many “insiders” were critical of her and hampered her growth in the industry.

Her latest gesture seems to show that she no longer wants to be on the outside, More >

Karan Johar to bring Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan together

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 22, 2011)

Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan will meet at a film and media conference to be held in Mumbai, for an interaction on the two biggest film industries across the globe.

And if the two hunks on stage are not enough, none other than, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be introducing the Wolverine star on stage.

However, it all wouldn’t have been possible without Karan Johar. “It was Fox Star and Karan who were instrumental in bringing Hugh to Mumbai,” reveals a source. “Jackman will be coming down on 24th night and will be attending the closing ceremony of the conference on the 25th.

He will talk about cinema and the closing gap between Hollywood and Bollywood along with KJo and SRK.

Shah Rukh will be the only star interacting with Jackman. It is still unknown if SRK or Karan will host a party for him to meet the other B-town celebrities later,” adds the source.

When contacted, Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star India confirmed, saying, “We planned to bring a big Hollywood celebrity and Hugh is right up there.

He was our first choice and everything fell into place. We are delighted to have Hugh coming down.

He is going to attend the closing session of the conference. Karan will be in conversation with Hugh and Shah Rukh Khan.

Karishma Tanna makes a noise down South

Mahesh H (BOMBAY TIMES; March 22, 2011) Karishma Tanna may be forgotten in tellyland, but the girl is managing to create a buzz down South. She is starring in actor Prem’s upcoming film I’m Sorry… Matte Banni Preethsona and there’s already a controversy brewing. First, stills from the film were leaked showing Prem and actress Karishma in what seemed to be a kissing scene. Then, director R Ravindra alleged that Karishma refused to promote the film. The actress, however, claims that she was misled about her role in the film and is miffed about reports saying that she is not its lead heroine. She has now sent Ravindra a legal notice demanding that he show her the film before its theatrical release. “Yes, I have sent Ravindra a legal notice through my lawyer after I came to know that I’m not the heroine of the film as earlier agreed upon by the director. If he doesn’t agree to those terms, I’ll drag him to court,” says Karishma.

According to the actress, when Ravindra approached her with the script, she was told that she would be playing the lead in the film. “Now I want to know whether my character is the same as what the director narrated to me before we started shooting. I don’t know what happened to him as I didn’t do anything wrong. After we finished shooting, he started avoiding me and stopped responding to my calls.”

Karishma also maintains that she is more than willing to promote the film. More >

Mirror’s analysis on celeb’s twitter pics

Social media is all about building your image, they say. So what do these candid shots, posted carefully on their twitter profiles, say about Bollywood? We do a spot of star-gazing

MUMBAI MIRROR; March 22, 2011

Hrithik Roshan

Posted soon after a major award ceremony the caption said: Is the Statue the big prize or the hug? Say Hi to my Nani   If Spiderman had his grandmom, Batman his great uncle, why not Krrish?

After all, every superhero could do with a hug some times.

And here Hrithik’s delight is genuine. He’s posing alright, but not in an I me myself manner of many stars.

Mallika Sherawat

If we were psychoanalysts, mapping Mallika’s personality from this picture would be a no-brainer. It has narcissistic written all over.

She is oblivious and impervious to others in the background. Her single-minded focus is on wooing the camera.

The cantilevered breasts jutting out, the sinewy waist ready to wriggle to her jalebi tune and the red skirt a-twirl, Mallika seems to giving her fans an inviting trailer to her next film.

Sonakshi Sinha

She may be romancing stars twice her age on the screen, but this picture shot on location in North India shows you how Shotgun’s little girl still loves to snuggle up under a warm blanket.

She could be a young hostel girl here instead of the hot new diva in town. V sweet!

Meet Abhishek Awasthi’s hot new girlfriend!

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; March 22, 2011)

Abhishek Awasthi, whose only claim to fame was his affair with Miss Controversy Rakhi Sawant is dating a model, Bindu Chowdhury now. He has been spotted with this stunner at several social dos. Onlookers say the two can’t keep their hands off each other especially when the shutterbugs are around. Though sources close to the two say they are an item, both Abhishek and Bindu deny the rumour using the much-abused ‘We are only friends’ cliche!

A source close to the couple informs, “Abhishek and Bindu are seeing each other. He has also met Bindu’s parents to discuss marriage. They go together at every party.” Denying the buzz, Abhishek says, “We are very good friends and there is nothing beyond this. I like spending time with her.” Bindu too parroted the same line and said, “This is not true and he hasn’t met my parents. We have a group of friends and we hang out together.”

Well, we hope the hanging out together leads to some concrete results. Maybe, Rakhi can put in a kind word for old times’ sake.

Rani, Sonam admit all’s not well with their co-star

BOMBAY TIMES (March 22, 2011)

Abhishek-Rani The Bunty Aur Babli pair wont be seen in a film anytime soon. Rani Mukherji, who was linked to Abhishek Bachchan, just before he married Aishwarya Rai is smarting from the humiliation of not been invited to the wedding. For the first time in an interview to a magazine the actress admits being hurt at the omission, despite being close to the Bachchans for years. She has also worked with Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, and it hurt that much more when she was left out of the guestlist for the wedding. In the said interview, Rani opens up, “The truth is that if a person chooses not to invite you to their wedding, you realise where you stand with the person. You may be deluded and think you are friends but maybe the friendship was only restricted to being co-stars on the sets. It doesn’t matter. It became very clear and evident that we were only co-actors and not friends. Moreover, inviting someone to a wedding is a personal choice. Tomorrow when I decide to get married, I will choose the handful of people I want to invite. Poor guy has been married for many years, we should all move on. I will always have fond memories of working with him.”

Ranbir-Sonam Now it is out in the open. In an interview to Filmfare magazine, Sonam Kapoor has confessed that she is no longer on talking terms with her childhood friend Ranbir Kapoor. The hostility started following some comments made by Sonam on Koffee With Karan, after which More >

Revisit your childhood-Amole Gupte

Amole Gupte’s film releases during this summer vacation

Nimisha Tiwari (BOMBAY TIMES; March 22, 2011)

His desire to direct a film on children may have been thwarted when Aamir Khan took over the reigns of Taare Zameen Par, however Amole Gupte is now ready to prove that he was the right man for the job. The writer and creative director of TZP is all set to release his film Stanley Ka Dabba, an emotional drama about school-going children and their tiffin boxes.

Amole has not just directed and produced the film, he has also acted in it as a teacher (with his signature beard intact). Shot at a workshop over a period of one-and-a-half years, this film is about growing up and human spirit. Interestingly, the 500-odd kids who have acted in it, weren’t fed with scripted dialogues. They spoke their own language and quite beautifully at that. “You would have never seen childhood, so upclose and personal. This film attempts to visit the wonderful world of children,” promises Amole.

Calling himself a ‘handsfree’ actor, who has nothing to prove through his acting skills and just enjoys the role, Amole says, “I don’t make films without any purpose. I see children slogging for 11-12 hours during school days. While I am not being judgemental, I would want to reverse this system and give them time to learn from life. So, Stanley Ka Dabba will send out an emotional message to everyone.” Divya Dutta, Divya Jagdale, Rahul Singh, Rajendranath Zutshi More >

Sajid Nadiadwala to pick a contestant from Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2011 and launch her in his next

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; March 22, 2011) Producer Sajid Nadiadwala will launch one of the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2011 (PFMI-2011) finalists in his next film. The participants can take heart in this news that he may launch any of the 20 finalists and not necessarily the winner of the crown. Sajid, who has a keen eye for beauty and talent, says, “All the girls that I have worked with have had a special quality in them. I believe in presenting my heroines on par with my heroes. The advantage the Femina Miss India beauty pageant girls like Priyanka (Anjaana Anjaani) and Lara (Houseful) have is their supreme confidence. I think these girls already had an advantage when they started, because of their grooming.’’

The filmmaker continues, “God is kind, but yes you can say that I’m considered a lucky mascot for some of the biggest heroines. I spotted Karisma Kapoor (Jeet, Judwaa) before she did Raja Hindustani, Rani Mukerji (Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega) before she did Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Preity Zinta (HDJPK) when she first arrived in Mumbai and I had signed Priyanka Chopra (Mujhse Shaadi Karogi) soon after she had won the Femina Miss India crown in 2000. All these girls are the biggest and the best names in showbiz. And, I must say that I feel a sense of pride when I see their career graphs.’’

Director Sabbir Khan says, “It is heartening More >
