Not in it for sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll!-Ali Zafar
0Ali Zafar tells Harshada Rege that he’s looking forward to creating music that will be remembered for years to come
BOMBAY TIMES (March 21, 2011) You have dabbled in music as well as acting. So what do you think of yourself as — a musician or an actor — first? I consider myself an artist, who likes to keep expressing himself through his work in various art forms, be it acting, singing, painting or writing. In the process, I discover myself.
You are often referred to as the Prince of Pop in Pakistan, how seriously do you take such titles? These titles are for the people who give it and I am thankful if someone thinks of me worthy of any such title. However, if I start taking them seriously, I can get into into a dangerous space of self-love and indulgence, which can be a hindrance to my growth as an artist. I have witnessed careers go down and work deteriorate when creative people get caught up in such things. I would prefer to be disassociated with praise so that I can remain level headed and maintain subjectivity, which I feel is important for my work.
You recently released your third album, is there one particular sound that you like to be associated with or do you try something different everytime? The third album is completely different not for the heck of being different, but it represents a natural transition in me. It’s serious music with Sufi poetry and some poetry from Ghalib, besides my own. The idea is to make music which More >

Old partners patch up on Holi
0Ekta Kapoor and Sanjay Gupta, while enjoying Holi festivities, celebrated their joint venture Shootout At Lokhandwala Part 2
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2011)
While Ekta Kapoor and Sanjay Gupta celebrated Holi yesterday afternoon (see more pics on right), we learn that the duo have more than colour balloons hidden under their sleeves.
The speculations that Kapoor and Gupta would collaborate again for their sequel to Shootout At Lokhandwala, based on the real life shootout at Lokhandwala in 1991, has finally been made official.
Yogen ShahAlthough the original movie did fairly well at the box office in 2007, Kapoor and Gupta had a professional fall-out following the film’s release.
Then on January 24, 2010 Mumbai Mirror broke the story about the disagreement between them over the subject for the sequel. While Kapoor wanted to base the sequel on another real life cop-gangster shootout, Gupta was reluctant to do so.
A source tells us, “All that is a thing of the past now. Kapoor and Gupta have met at a common point.” Gupta has bought the rights of a recent Hong Kong action movie for the sequel and has been spotted frequently visiting Kapoor’s office in Andheri lately.
Since Gupta had a fall-out with the film’s original director Apoorva Lakhia, the sequel will be directed either by Gupta himself or a new director. We wonder which of the actors from the original film will secure a role in the sequel.

Akshay to go shirtless in Antarctica
0Akshay Kumar to tread ‘penguin’ land for an action sequence in Housefull 2
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2011)
Akshay is called Khiladi Kumar for a reason. And after doing back-to-back comedies, the actor is all set to go full throttle into action with Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 2.
Akshay will be shooting where no Bollywood actor has shot before Antarctica. And that too without his shirt on!
Kumar will be seen fighting villains in his introductory scene in Housefull 2, to be shot in ‘penguin’ land. He will be seen ripping off his shirt in the process.
And if being there shirtless, in the subzero temperature, wasn’t enough, this introductary sequence for the film will last almost ten minutes.
Says a source, “In Housefull Akshay had played a nerd. In Housefull 2, he plays a larger-than-life hero.
After a string of comedies, Akshay has been toying with the idea of getting back to action in a way that would immediately catch people’s attention.
He sat down with producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sajid Khan and came up with the idea of an introductory fight in a place where it has never been done before.”
No Indian film has been shot in Antarctica. And certainly, no filmmaker has conceived an action sequence in the freezing climate. Getting permission for this historic whammy in the snow was not easy either.
Sajid Khan and Sajid NadiadwalaDirector Sajid Khan confirmed the same, saying, “Yes, I’m shooting Akshay’s introductory More >
Hrithik dodges disaster
0The actor thought he had run over a beggar, only to realise it was all fake
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2011)
Yesterday evening, Hrithik Roshan drove out of his building Palazzio and headed to Yash Chopra’s Juhu Bungalow. Little did he know, what a fiasco awaited him later on in the evening.
It all started when Hrithik came out of Chopra’s house in his car. Three beggars came knocking at the car window.
Hrithik’s driver, who has been with the star since his first film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, and has never erred so far, slowed the car down.
But one of the beggars (circled in red, Pic 1) was up to some real mischief.
The beggar in question threw himself before the car and started screaming that he had been hurt.
He held his leg and turned sides yelling, ‘Maar dala, maar dala’. (See, Pic 2)
A few miscreants joined the scene and started pulling the beggar back to his feet, without succeeding. (See, Pic 3) “The idea was to convince Hrithik that the beggar had been badly injured,” informed a source.
Says an eyewitness, “Hrithik and his driver knew that they were not wrong. But then they got really scared. What if the beggar had been really hurt?”

‘Can you lower the AC?’
0Those were Navin Nischol’s last words as he died on Saturday morning on his way to Pune to celebrate a quiet Holi with his friends
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2011) (18/3/ 1946 – 19/3/2011)
Actor Navin Nischol, who died suddenly on Saturday morning, was on his way to Pune with producer Gurdeep Singh to spend a quiet Holi. Before he could do so, Navin died in the car.
Rishi Kapoor, who ran into Navin Nischol the night before his sudden death, tells us what happened inside the car. He says, “I bumped into him after ages at the Otters Club on Friday night. I don’t frequent Otters Club. So it all seems providential.

Before they could reach Daboo’s, Navin asked Gawa to lower the AC in the car. Then he just slumped and died…”
Reminiscing Nischol’s favourite ad, Rishi says, “I had directed Navin in Aa Ab Laut Chalein. A good looking man and a good human being.
He was cultured and a great conversationalist.
Do you know Navin loved that insurance ad where the father holds his heart and passes out when he is told he has to pay a fee of 10 lakhs for his son? Navin used to say, ‘That’s the way to go.’ Someone up there heard him. That’s the way he went.”

Rani Mukerji on turning 30
0On her birthday today, Rani Mukerji lists 10 things every girl must do when she exits from her 20s
Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; March 21, 2011)
Rani Mukerji is one of the few B-Town actresses who has never shied from accepting her age. Today on her 33rd birthday, the spunky actress talks about ten top things every girl must do before she enters her thirties.
10. Do something physically adventurous: One should always take risks when you are in your twenties or when you are a teenager. But take risks that does not ruin or harm you. I have for the longest time been thinking of doing deep sea diving and even sky diving and it’s my aim that I will do it soon. I’m a total water baby and I love anything to do with water. I’m just waiting for the right time to plan and do sea diving and have a super experience doing it. So, all of you who haven’t done things that are adventurous go for it now.
9. Be at the top of your game: You need to be at the top of your game when you are in your 30s for sure. So, plan well and take your chances. 30s should shape how your life will be so that you can enjoy your 40s or 50s but for that you need to push yourself the hardest in your 20s. But hey, make sure you balance your life well. All work and no play makes anyone dull. I didn’t even realise when I touched 30 because right through my 20s I was working so hard and travelling so much. But it’s definitely been worth it.
8. Go on a all-girl/boy vacation: More >
Mallika challenges Munni & Sheila!
0BOMBAY TIMES (March 21, 2011)
We just told you that it is raining item numbers in every set in Bollywood. And of course what Malaika, Deepika, Katrina and Lisa do; Mallika Sherawat can do better. The sultry siren, who is getting paid a bomb to shake her hips, has shot a sexy and steamy number titled Jalebi Bai for Indra Kumar’s Double Dhamaal. When contacted for her response on whether the song was more erotic than Munni, Sheila and the rest, Mallika only said, “Wait and watch.” But choreographer Ganesh Acharya feels his item is the one that will emerge the winner this year. Honestly, what happened to scripts; everyone is only talking of items.

The four day schedule of the song was shot at Mehboob Studios, where a lavish set of a casino was created to give the song the right look and feel. The sources also commented on Mallika’s dance in the racy number and said, “She’s got her enticing moves right and is sure to give the Munnis and the Sheilas a run for their money!”
The music of the song is by Anand Raj Anand, while the film will release this June.

Ranbir-Anushka: Yeh Nazdikiyaan
0Anushka Sharma is bonding with Ranbir Kapoor, first at a party, then her house and at a dinner recently
Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; March 21, 2011) There’s something interesting brewing between Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. The two first met at Karan Johar’s party in February. It was evident to all present that the Band Bajaa Baaraat girl was interested in the RK boy. Even the presence of then girlfriend Katrina Kaif, didn’t stop her from making eyes at Ranbir. She also blatantly ignored her beau Ranveer Singh who was left to dance by himself, while she gyrated purely for Kapoor’s benefit.
On Karan Johar’s show Anushka confessed that she would love to date Ranbir. Close friends of Kapoor swear he is single now, so what’s to stop her from making her move? Everyone thought their ‘chemistry’ was just party fervour for the night. Shortly after, she had a party for a select group of friends at her home, and she invited Ranbir too. Also present was his wingman, Ayan Mukherjee. Meanwhile, it is believed that Anushka and Ranveer after a huge spat, have agreed to stay friends, instead of lovers.
On Thursday night, Ranbir and Anushka were spotted together again. This time they were out for dinner with a bunch of friends which also included Ranveer and Shahid Kapoor. Later, they were all seen leaving in the same car. While Ranveer sat next to the driver, Ranbir and Anushka were cosying up to each other in the backseat, next to Shahid. More >
Salman gets a new home
0Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; March 21, 2011)
Salman Khan lives in Galaxy Apartments, one floor below his parents’ home. He has never had another address in Mumbai. But the actor is moving out, albeit temporarily to a specially built condo in Film City.
The actor will soon commence shooting for the 40-day schedule of Bodyguard. To save on travel time between his house in Bandra and Goregoan, (approximately 90 minutes in traffic) he has decided to move into a specially built apartment on the set. The construction has already begun (See pic). This is the first time that a leading B-town actor will be living on a film set for a long stretch of time.
While the actor lives in a one bedroom apartment in Bandra, his new temporary residence will have two bedrooms and a living area. It will also house a fully operational gym. Producer Atul Agnihotri confirms, “Yes, Salman will be living on the sets. We have decided to build a place that is as close to his actual home. That’s the only instruction that we gave the interior designer. However, we are not going to take anything from his pad to do up this place. We are renting everything out from beds to wardrobes. Salman’s gym will also have everything he needs. There will be a fully loaded kitchen, a big bathroom and an area where he can hang out with his friends who drop in to see him.”
However, Salman’s five dogs will not move in with More >
