Priyanka & Kangna pull Bhandarkar for National Award presentation
0By Joginder Tuteja, March 20, 2010 – 14:44 IST
Madhur Bhandarkar may not have won yet another award for Best Director at the recently held National Awards. However, his leading ladies ensured that he didn’t miss out the moment of reckoning. Both Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut, who have won National Awards for themselves after their stellar act in Fashion, pulled along Madhur Bhandarkar to New Delhi where the ceremony was held on Friday.
Informs a source close to the filmmaker, “For both Priyanka and Kangna, this was recognition at the highest level and they understand that the world will look at them far more differently from this point on. As actors they have seen tremendous growth ever since they started their career a few years back. However, Fashion showed them in a different light altogether and ever since the 2008 release of the film, they haven’t thanked Madhur less for the kind of performance that he extracted out of them.”
In the past there have been instances of leading men and ladies walking out of their professional relationship with their directors even after delivering a major blockbuster.
“However, Priyanka and Kangna are different”, continues the source, “They know how to stand by the man who has been known for redefining the image of so many of his actors in the last decade. No wonder, all of them are still in touch and this is the reason why when the date was announced for the National Awards ceremony, they urged Madhur Bhandarkar to More >
Priyanka Chopra receives National Award
0By Subhash K. Jha, March 20, 2010 – 12:14 IST
For those of her fans who had gotten used to seeing the stunning Priyanka Chopra at social dos in gowns and dresses, the saree that she wore at the National Awards on Friday was a surprising change.
Laughing on the eve of collecting the prestige award, Priyanka said, “I’ve three sarees ready. I haven’t decided which one to wear. I’m tooooo excited.”
Priyanka was in Delhi on Friday feeling much at-peace. “My entire family including parents and my grandparents are all here for the National Awards ceremony. It’s a big moment for me and I wanted my entire family to be part of it. Tomorrow (Saturday) my father’s music album releases. So the family has double reason to be together.”
Priyanka is looking forward to shooting her second film with Vishal Bhardwaj. It’s tentatively titled Saat Khoon Maaf. But that title would change soon.
Anu Kapoor is the latest actor to join Priyanka’s bandwagon of husbands in Bhardwaj’s film.
Anu and Priyanka Chopra are joined by their love for music and singing. Many antakshari sessions with two heading teams are anticipated in Coorg.

Vishal Bharadwaj, Chitrangada’s small town connection
0// // //
Every actor relies on someone for guidance. Not many know that the tall, dusky actress Chitrangada Singh, who comes from an Army background, banks on director Vishal Bhardwaj for career advice.
Both Vishal and Chitrangada hail from Meerut. Chitrangada says, “I didn’t know him in Meerut. But there was a bit of a connection when we met at the premiere of my debut film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. He was very happy with my performance.
We just got along and have been in touch since then.”
Not being from the industry, she sometimes requires a reliable sounding board. She says, “I haven’t been around long enough to actually judge how a script will translate on screen.
Sometimes you’re stuck or thinking twice about a story and want to call up someone for advice. It is good to have a director to guide you. I can blindly call Vishal sir and I know he’ll give me the best advice.”
So, will we be seeing her in a Vishal Bhardwaj film soon? “He has been promising me a film for a long time,” she laughs.
Does she have other industry friends? She says, “I haven’t been around long enough, but I know Sanjay Suri, Onir, Ketan Mehta and Sudhir Mishra, of course.”
Vivek Oberoi to star in a play penned by Javed Akhtar
0The actor to star in a musical inspired by Dilip Kumar
By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 20, 2010)Vivek Oberoi and Isha Shravani are set to star in an extravagant musical play written by Javed Akhtar at the newly-inaugurated live-entertainment theatre in Gurgaon, near Delhi.
The play, Kingdom Of Dreams, is a swashbuckler largely inspired by the 1955 smash hit Azaad that featured Dilip Kumar as the rakish prince, Meena Kumari as the distressed princess and Pran as the evil vazir.
Vivek Oberoi takes over as the debonair prince while Isha Shravani, his former co-star from Subhash Ghai’s Kisna, plays the princess. Gauhar Khan plays the other love interest.
Said Javed, “They (the organisers) came to me with a storyline and asked me to make a musical play out of it. I didn’t like their idea, so I wrote my own take on 1950s’ cinema.”
With the play slated to open in May, Vivek left for Delhi on Friday for a month-long rehearsal with Isha and Gauhar. “I guess I’m a very lucky guy.
I get to woo both these ladies in a play which is unlike anything we’ve seen in this country,” said Vivek.
Dev Anand happily confined in 15×10 space
0// // // The evergreen Dev Anand is also indefatigable. Anand Studios is being renovated, but that doesn’t dampen the sprightly filmmaker’s spirits. Even though he is confined to a tiny 15X10 space, he hasn’t lost his zest for life and continues to work on his forthcoming film Chargesheet with the same enthusiasm.
Earlier, Dev Anand worked in a sprawling studio, and had the whole Anand studios building at his disposal. The tiny area in Siddhi building on 15th Road, Khar functions as his temporary headquarters, while he travels a lot for shooting, dubbing and mixing for Chargesheet, which is in post-production.
Even in confinement, the 86-year old actor-producer-director still smiles radiantly when he meets us. He says, “Yes, it’s tough for me. Also, I have to depend on other studios when they are free. But I am doing it. I never give up.”
Of course, Dev misses Anand Studios very much. As things stand today, it will be rebuilt in about a year’s time. “It will be ready in ten months. The thing that I miss the most after shifting here is that, unlike old times, when I drove into my compound, I immediately saw my own people (staff), here I get down outside the building and…,” he shrugs.
Dev Anand has always seen the silver lining, and says that the extra travel because More >
Naseer’s youngest son to play Priyanka’s youngest husband in Saat Khoon Maaf
0Naseer and his son Vivaan will both play Priyanka Chopra’s husbands in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf
By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 20, 2010)
Naseeruddin Shah’s youngest son Vivaan is set to make his Bollywood debut opposite Priyanka Chopra – he is playing one of her seven husbands in Saat Khoon Maaf. The Vishal Bhardwaj film, an unusual drama of passion and polyandry, also stars his father. Naseer plays Priyanka’s oldest husband while 20-year-old Vivaan plays the youngest.
Shooting is currently on at Coorg, and Priyanka will join the unit from Delhi after receiving the National award from President Pratibha Patil.
Vivaan was chosen by Vishal after he happened to see the boy and found him just right for the role. Vivaan had no plans of a career in acting at this stage and age. Though casting both father and son as Priyanka’s husbands does appear rather audacious, Vishal seems convinced about it.
Said Naseer’s elder son Imaad, “Yes, my younger brother Vivaan is doing Vishal Bhardwaj’s film along with my father, but I don’t know what role he’s playing.” Though everyone associated with the film is tight-lipped about this casting coup, another source has confirmed that Naseer and his younger son Vivaan are indeed playing Priyanka Chopra’s husbands.
The final list of Priyanka’s husbands in Saat Khoon Maaf (the title may be revised again) is: Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anu Kapoor, More >
Salman wants to work with Deepika
0MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; March 20, 2010)
Salman Khan apparently checked out Deepika Padukone when she was first signed to do Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om. He was mighty impressed with her beauty and talent. But at that time, he was doing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. And with a proxy war going on between OSO and Saawariya, the lead actors of the two movies didn’t really interact much with each other. Now it’s being said that Salman wants to do a movie with Deepika more than ever before. Deepika too had once told BT, “Salman is one actor I’m looking forward to doing a film with.”
Trade sources say that director Anees Bazmee will cast these two goodlooking people together. Deepika said she’s unaware of these reports but sources close to Salman say that this is a definite and immediate possibility because “Bhai wants to do a movie with Deepika.” If this casting coup happens, it could be one up on the current sensations, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif who are also looked upon as a hot screen jodi. Of course, don’t read between the lines and try and see any ulterior motive in Salman’s desire to do a movie with the gorgeous Bangalore beauty. It’s a plain and simple case of good casting.
Where’s the money honey?
0MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; March 20, 2010)
The over-imaginative PR machinery of actresses uses one weapon at regular intervals. Every time they feel that they need to get their heroine’s stock up, they brainwash journalists into believing that X actress has been paid an X amount. So you’re sipping your cuppa one morning and you almost fall off your couch, when you read that Priyanka Chopra got paid Rs 6 crore for Pyaar Impossible, or Kangna Ranaut will be paid Rs 5 crore for a film with a minister’s son, and Kareena Kapoor got paid Rs 10 crore for Golmaal 3 (later brought down to Rs 7 crore), while Katrina Kaif is offered Rs 7 crore by Abbas-Mustan for The Italian Job. When this round of blitzkrieg is done, you’ll have a final rumour on how Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is actually still in demand, is being offered a sum that totals the price of the current lot of divas.
“Circulating rumours on prices is the easiest thing,” says trade consultant Amod Mehra. “The truth is often very far away from the actuality. And, the market right now is certainly not ready to pay the heroines the prices they or their kith often claim.” Mehra explains that the reason for this is simple logic. You don’t have to be Einstein to know that Bollywood heroines still don’t sell a film. Therefore, any producer who pays a heroine a price, has to pay a price for it! More >
