Director Priyadashan says Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal, has an identity of it’s own

Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; April 9, 2012)

After making serious dramas like Aakrosh (2010) and the upcoming Tezz, director Priyadarshan is all set to tickle your funny bone once again with Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal (KDM) with Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Asrani and Shreyas Talpade in the casting lineup. The director says that it was a challenge to bring all these actors under one roof. “With all these talented actors coming together one could expect not only some heavy duty drama, but also action, albeit in a funny way,” says Priyan.

The director, however, does not call this film a sequel to Malamaal Weekly. “It’s a film with an identity of its own. As I said there’s more drama, action and of course, comedy. It’s high on production values. The Christian village backdrop has a perfect setting for the adventure to unfold.” The film breaks away from conventional comedy. “This drama-action-comedy juggernaut is a joyride that the viewer will enjoy taking,” he muses.

Interestingly, this is for the first time Nana Patekar and Priyadarshan are coming together. “Nana and I have been wanting to work together since a very long time. When I came up with the idea of KDM, I approached him and this time he just could not afford to give it a miss,” he says.

Produced by Shailendra Singh’s Percept Pictures, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal has music by Sajid-Wajid.

Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 5, 2012)

Anjana Sukhani scorched the silver screen when she danced with Anil Kapoor in Salaam-E-Ishq (2007). Now, she gets another opportunity to sizzle on screen in Priyadarshan’s Malaamal Weekly 2.

A source close to the project told Mumbai Mirror, “Songs are an important part of any Priyadarshan film as it takes the movie forward. They were looking for a pretty face for this particular song and Anjana just fit the part perfectly. After making heads turn in Salaam-E-Ishq with her sensuous dance moves, life has come a full circle for the actress.”

The shooting of the song will take place this month. Anjana will also do some rehearsals before they record the song with Shreyas Talpade and Nana Patekar. “Anjana has worked with both, Nana and Shreyas, in Tum Milo Toh Sahi and Golmaal Returns respectively. Bonding with them will come naturally to her,” the source said.

When contacted, Sukhani and Priyadarshan remained unavailable for comment.

Apparently Rajeev Khandelwal and Shreyas Talpade have suddenly become unavailable to promote ‘Will You Marry Me’

By Mauli Singh (MID-DAY; February 23, 2012)

While stars like Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan go all out to promote their latest releases, looks like Rajeev Khandelwal and Shreyas Talpade are just not interested in having to do anything with promoting their latest film together, Will You Marry Me. The film is slated to release on March 2.

Blame game A source from the crew says, “The last time Rajeev did a promotional activity for the film was on February 14. He just vanished after that. Even Shreyas is busy with Priyadarshan’s film Malamaal Weekly 2. The producer Vipin Jain is irked with them giving a cold shoulder towards the film.”

Vipin who is especially upset with his lead actor Rajeev’s behaviour rues, “My film is up for release but Rajeev is not cooperating at all. I asked him to give me dates to promote the film but he said he is not free. He has given dates to other films.

I have spoken to his manager too, but to no avail. He keeps on dilly-dallying. Shreyas was promoting the film so far but now he is shooting Priyan’s film.”

The producer goes on to add, “The box office success of the film depends heavily on the promotions. That’s why even biggest stars are aggressively promoting their film. It is very unprofessional behaviour on Rajeev’s part.”

Launched with much fanfare exactly two years back with a budget pegged at 25 crores, Raftaar 24X7 was one of those couple of dozen films which came into existence when the industry was at it’s peak. The term recession had not yet made its presence felt and every reputed production house and actor was more than glad to make huge announcements. There was widespread excitement around the film since a 25 crore budget allocated by Percept Picture Company meant that Raftaar 24X7 was all set to be Emraan Hashmi’s biggest venture till date.

All seemed to be quite well during the earlier schedules of the film as first time filmmaker Shamim Desai joined the principal cast of Raftaar 24X7 in Maldives for a ‘test shoot’. This was one of its kinds experiments as the week long trip worth Rs. 1.5 crore was planned to get the cast and the crew familiar with each other.

Says an industry observer, “Those were the days when good money was flowing into the industry. Corporate houses did everything to entice their actors and create an impression amongst the investors that their film was all set to be a lavish affair. No one could foresee that industry was headed for a doom in the year to follow.”

A major schedule of the film was later shot in Delhi where for the first time ever in his career, Emraan Hashmi featured in a guerrilla shoot.

However, there was not much movement in the interim. As things stand today, both Emraan Hashmi and More >
