The actress is ready and training hard, but none of the 13 contestants for Fear Factor have been finalised
The upcoming season of Khatron Ke Khiladi is jinxed. Hostess Priyanka Chopra’s shooting dates have been fixed for the 2nd and 3rd week of August. And Priyanka has been diligently preparing in Brazil for her daredevil anchor role for months.
Apparently, the contestants are still not finalised. After the BCCI came down heavily on our cricketers post the IPL debacle, 13 of them opted out of Fear Factor.
The team has to now rely on hunks from other fields. Only after Priyanka approves of them that is.
But this too has failed. The actors and models don’t want to participate in the show. Did the tough stunts of the last season dampen their spirits or did Akshay’s bordering on ruthless demeanor scare them?
Kushal Punjabi, Sonu Sood, Kunal Khemu, Arjan Bajwa, Purab Kohli and Aarya Babbar have all declined the offer, while the ones still being cajoled are Dino Morea, Emraan Hashmi, Himesh Reshammiya, Abhishek Kapoor, Brett Lee and Marc Robinson.
Says a source from the channel, “We’ve so far locked in only Rahul Bose and Milind Soman and that too after much haggling. The rest of the slots are open.” The team is panicking now.
|Rahul Bose||Milind Soman|
The source laments, “Priyanka’s dates will slip out of our hands if we don’t shoot with her in August because after her two-week stint in Brazil, she heads to shoot for Don 2. Besides, we are supposed to go on air in September.”
Priyanka seems oddly unaffected though. “I’ve been training really hard and I’m all set. I’ve no clue about the contestants. That’s the channels look out,” she says.Is there a workable solution then?
Says the channel source, “We’ll have to up the contestants’ fee, as we did for Bigg Boss. Many of the people we’ve approached are asking for unreasonable fee.” The channel admits getting celebrities on this show is getting tough. Colors’ CEO Rajesh Kamat is optimistic though, “By the first week of July we hope to have our contestants in place.” Fingers crossed.
When Soha Ali Khan heard that her good friend Kunal Khemu met with an accident on the sets of Golmaal 3, she rushed to Goa to nurse him
Soha Ali Khan flew into Goa four days ago to spend time with the Golmaal 3 unit. Most people assumed she had gone there to bond with her brother’s girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, who is the leading lady of the film. But the truth is that Soha heard that her ‘good friend’ Kunal Khemu, who is also a part of the Golmaal-3 starcast, had met with an accident while doing a stunt scene.
Rohit Shetty, the director of the film, confirms the news of the mishap. Says he, “Kunal was on a water ski and he injured his leg really badly.’’
One of the unit members said that at one point, Kunal was in so much pain that they thought he had fractured his leg. And that he would be rendered unfit for shooting for a few days. However, it turned out that his injury wasn’t that serious and he is now able to continue shooting with a sprain bandage on his upper leg, just above his knee.
Obviously, Soha heard of the accident and she immediately rushed to Goa to check how badly Kunal had injured himself. What’s more, after she landed there, she apparently decided to hang out in Goa for a few days making sure that Kunal didn’t take any risks with his injured leg and attempt any dangerous action scenes in his hurt state.
An insider says that it was indeed very sweet to see the way Soha cared for Kunal hanging around the sets, though the temperature on the Goa beach where the unit is stationed is a raging 38 degrees.
Of course, the fact that Bebo is around makes things that much simpler. “Soha gets along famously with most of the actors who are around,’’ says the source. “Seeing her sitting around with the cast actually makes it seem like she is part of the unit too.’’
And is Kunal happy with this development? Those who have seen the actor in the last few days say he looks more than happy to Soha around. And he is absolutely basking in all the extra attention that he has been getting.
Ajay, Kareena, Arshad and gang joined by Mithun in third part of comedy
MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; April 15, 2010)
The comedy season continues in Bollywood with the Dhilin Mehta-Rohit Shetty film Golmaal 3 promising to be a big ticket venture this Diwali. Rohit, who is currently shooting the third part of his comedy in Goa, said, “I don’t know whether it will be the funniest film of the season. But this is the first Bollywood film franchise that goes into a third part and we’re set for a place in the Limca Book of Records.’’ After the success of the Golmaal franchise and All The Best, Rohit believes comedies can never go out of fashion. “Each of us feels the need to be entertained and a good laugh is absolutely priceless,’’ he said.
He’s happy to associate with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd and also excited that the cast — Mithun Chakraborty, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu and Ratna Pathak Shah — is made up of actors whose comic timing is perfect. “What’s also in favour of Golmaal 3 is that most of them have been part of the earlier two films and so there is a genuine bond with this franchise. We know we have a good script on hand and it is up to each of us to give this film our best,” Rohit added. Mithun, Ratna and Johnny Lever are added attractions to this laughter riot. Mithun said he can’t help but smile at the goofiness of the entire project. And Kareena is positive she can count on this film. “It will bring the house down,’’ promised Bebo.
For Ajay, his best friend and favourite actor, Rohit has planned a never before seen avatar. Just like Karan Johar styles Shah Rukh Khan, Rohit has given Ajay a rugged hair style and an amazingly toned, tattooed torso using celebrity stylist Aalim’s help. While Navin Shetty styles the costumes for Ajay, Arshad, Tusshar, Shreyas and Kunal. Meanwhile, the cast and crew are having a gala time shooting in Goa. Music composer Pritam, one of Bollywood’s big draws, is giving Golmaal 3 his zaniest numbers. “With so much going for us, let’s hope we create a dhamaka this Diwali, too,’’ said Rohit.

He’s in. He’s out. He’s finally….in! After the producers Ashthavinayak, apparently, agreed to pay him a whopping Rs. 3 crores to be part of the third segment of the ongoing Golmaal franchise, Arshad Warsi finally agreed to do the film.
After frantic negotiations the deal was finally cut on Monday. And yes, Arshad has condescended to be part of Golmaal 3.
His 3-crore rupee fee should be higher than every member of the cast barring Ajay Devgn. Even higher than Kareena Kapoor who has a 3-film deal with the producers.
Says a source, “Arshad after Ishqiya was adamant on his fee. The producers tried to convince him to take a much smaller fee arguing that his co-stars Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu (who replaces Sharman Joshi) were accepting a far smaller fee and if Arshad was paid 3 crores, the other actors would feel short-changed.” Arshad stuck to his guns. Stories came out saying the actor, now hot at the box-office after Ishqiya, did not like the script of Golmaal 3.
Says Rohit, “We were really keen to have him in the film. And yes the price has been worked out between Arshad and the producers. So he’s on.”
Strangely though, even after Rohit confirmed Arshad’s presence in Golmaal 3, Arshad was still in denial. Said the actor, “I am not sure yet. They’ve been after me for some time now. But I’m not able to make up my mind. I need to give time to my own production Hum Tum Aur Ghost. So I don’t know how I’ll manage the dates.”
However, sources from Golmaal 3 insist that Arshad is in at a staggering fee (for a non-lead actor).
The other actor like Arshad who has started acting pricey after a hit (3 Idiots) is Sharman Joshi who was reportedly asking for Rs 2.5 crores. He turned down the third part of Golmaal through his secretary.
Says Rohit Shetty, “Even before the scripting of Golmaal 3, Sharman sent me a message through his secretary saying he had other plans. I immediately looked for a replacement and am very happy with Kunal Khemu. Any regrets about Sharman? None at all. In fact we met at the airport recently and there wasn’t any mention of Golmaal 3.”
With Ishqiya and 3 Idiots, Arshad Warsi and Sharman Joshi seem to be determined to move into the big league. Both actors are aiming to play the main lead.
Without naming anyone Rohit Shetty says, “There’re lots of very talented actors out here who are fabulous side attractions but can never be the main course.”
We can safely assume whom he is talking about.
Kareena thinks of Saif Ali Khan’s family as her own. Apparently, she has great regard for Saif’s sister Soha Ali Khan and her beau Kunal Khemu. A case in point is Kareena strongly recommending Kunal to Golmaal 3 director Rohit Shetty. She convinced Shetty to include him as an integral part of the Golmaal series.’
Recently, Kareena told Shetty that Kunal would be an asset in his forthcoming film, which she stars in as well. Says a source, “Recently Saif, Kareena, Soha and Kunal met for dinner. Kareena and Kunal had an intense conversation about his movies and forthcoming projects. She thinks he is a very talented actor and is just making the wrong choices with his movies. She mentioned the same to him and discussed Golmaal 3 with him.”
It’s a thoughtful gesture on Kareena’s part to help out Soha’s boyfriend. The source continues, “Golmaal director Rohit was hunting for the star cast and Kareena was aware of that. We hear she had a word with Rohit, who was convinced by Kareena’s reasoning. The director immediately decided that Kunal should be sharing the screen space with Kareena, Ajay Devgan Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi and Mithun Chakraborty. This is a good break for Kunal and will put him in another league.”
Kareena and Kunal both remained unavailable for comment. However, director Rohit Shetty denied the story.

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, February 16, 2010 – 14:51 IST
After directing two super hit films in the Golmaal series, Rohit Shetty’s third installment in the franchise Golmaal 3 is being awaited eagerly. In fact, during the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation about various names being part of the cast of this much awaited film. Hence, we decided it was best to verify with the man himself on who actually forms the principal cast.
When we got in touch with Rohit Shetty asking him about the final cast of Golmaal 3, the talented director replied in his trademark humorous style, “There is so much speculation going around about the cast, it seems like I am making a Mughal-e-Azam“. Speaking about the cast, Rohit said, “Let me clear all misconceptions once and for all. Golmaal 3 stars Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Khemu, Kareena Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah in principal roles. Besides some of my favorite actors like Johnny Lever, Murli Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar and Sanjay Mishra also form the supporting cast.”
Speaking on some of the new members of the Golmaal family, Rohit says, “Yes we have Kunal Khemu, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah as new members of the cast. They are all new characters in the plot. Contrary to rumors, Mithun is not playing the character played by Paresh Rawal in the first part. It’s a completely new character. Mithun and Ratna Pathak Shah’s characters also end up getting married during the course of the film”
We also asked him about the buzz doing the rounds that Arshad was not a part of the film. “No…Arshad is very much a part of Golmaal 3. In fact, we just finalized things with him today morning.”
Rohit begins filming Golmaal 3 with a 10 day schedule in Mumbai starting March 20 followed by a 50 day schedule at his favorite location Goa. Like his previous two films- All The Best and Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 too will have a grand Diwali release on Nov 5 this year.
Besides Golmaal 3, Rohit is all set to direct his close buddy Ajay Devgn in an out and out action film. The film is apparently a remake of the 2009 Malayalam film Puthiya Mukham and is a solo hero film. In fact, the rights of the Malayalam film have already been acquired and in all probability Ajay Devgn himself along with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. will be producing this film. When we asked Rohit about this project, he did confirm the same but refused to reveal much at this stage.
Soha Ali Khan texted her ex, Siddharth, to praise his look in Striker
Soha Ali Khan and Siddharth may have parted ways, but they still remain good friends. The actress, who is currently dating Kunal Khemu, sent an SMS to her ex-beau Siddharth about how she likes his look in his latest film Striker.
A source reveals, “Soha is in touch with her ex-boyfriend Siddharth. Although they don’t talk to each other on a regular basis, they do greet each other occasionally. Recently, the actress sent him an SMS for his film Striker. She really likes his look in the film and complimented him for the same.”
|Soha Ali Khan|
Not many relationships end on such an amicable note. The source continues, “She sent a message to Siddharth gushing how much she likes him in Striker immediately as she simply could not resist. Soha is a mature adult and has no ego issues when it comes to appreciating anyone’s work, even if it is her ex.”
When contacted, Siddharth did not deny the story. He simply said, “I don’t like revealing the contents of my personal phone to the public.”
Soha Ali Khan remained unavailable for the comment.
Another couple in Bollywood has split. Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu have called off their relationship, which blossomed on the sets of Dhoondte Reh Jaoge in which they starred opposite each other.
Two months ago, when their second film 99 was about to be released and their romance was at its peak, Mumbai Mirror had reported how Kunal had dashed off to Goa to be with Soha when he learnt that her former flame Siddharth (Rang De Basanti) was spending time with her.
The Soha-Kunal break-up happened a few days ago. A source said, “They parted in a very dignified manner. There is no animosity on either side. They are still friends.”
Far from confirming their split, Kunal Khemu flatly denied that he was ever romantically involved with Soha. But he admitted that they are not in touch like before. “That’s because we are not working on any film together,” he said.
An amused Soha said, “Since we actresses seem to have been created more to romance our co-stars and less to act in films, it is only natural and fitting that during Dhoondte Reh Jaoge and 99, Kunal and I were ‘paired up’ by the media, and now that we are no longer working together, we have ‘broken up’. For my future boyfriends, please refer to my list of anticipated releases.”
When asked if she and Kunal are still in touch, she chose not to reply.
99 has been in the news for more reasons than one. It’s the first A-grade Hindi film to release after the producer v/s multiplexes tussle commenced. The promo aroused curiosity and with no other Hindi film in sight, 99 was the only option left for film-starved audiences. And fortunately, 99 entertains! The film with its wonderful story, screenplay and execution works big time!
The story of the movie: The film begins in the year 1999. Two small-time crooks, Sachin (Kunal Khemu) and Zaramud (Cyrus Broacha) run an illegal SIM card duplication business. When one day police comes knocking on their doors, they rob a car and escape. Unfortunately, the car meets with an accident. But the crooks escape with little injuries. But more bad news awaited them-the car they robbed belongs to AGM (Mahesh Manjrekar), a gangster-cum-bookie. He asks them to reimburse the amount of the car. They refuse as they couldn’t afford it. And then they had no choice but to join AGM’s illegal business and help him. Some months later, they are given a new ‘task’-recovering money from Delhi-based Rahul (Boman Irani) who owed 20 lakh rupees to AGM and had not returned a single paisa. This new ‘mission’ changes Sachin’s and Zaramud’s life as they meet the compulsive gambler Rahul. What follows is an unpredictable and hilarious roller coaster ride!
99 starts off amazingly and the witty screenplay makes sure the film doesn’t turn boring at any moment. The characters thrown in the narrative are very interesting. Right from the foul-mouthed gangster AGM to Rahul, his wife (Simone Singh), JC (Vinod Khanna), Kuber (Amit Mistry) and his ‘right hand’ Dimple-everyone manage to amuse and impress. And how can we forget the protagonists and also Neha (Soha Ali Khan)-they too rocked! The writers should certainly be appreciated for wonderful characterization.
Also, the film is set in the year 1999 and 2000. It was a time when metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi were still ‘mall-less’! Mobile Phones were still expensive and one was charged even for incoming calls. People still struggled with dialing, messaging and changing ring tones in their cell phones. Cyber Cafes proudly displayed on their hoardings that they have a high speed of 64 kbps! 99 wonderfully display all this and captures that period effectively!
The film falls in some places in the 2nd half, especially in Kunal-Soha scenes. These were very short scenes but still proved as an obstacle at times. Maybe, these scenes could have been chopped off. However, the last 25 minutes of the film were certainly the best part of the film. It was hilarious, unpredictable and doesn’t go over the top.
Directors of this film have succeeded in extracting fine performances from the entire cast. Kunal Khemu shines in his role. He looks great in trimmed hair and gives a great performance. Cyrus Broacha doesn’t mouth many dialogues but manages to raise many laughs throughout the film! Last seen in Little Zizou, he’ll be seen next in Mumbai Chaka Chak! Boman Irani is certainly the best performer in the film! He plays his role with aplomb. In every film, he plays a character different from the other and still manages to give an outstanding performance! Hats off to this marvelous actor!
Soha Ali Khan does a wonderful job and was exceptional in her final scene. Mahesh Manjrekar comes up with a hilarious performance. Watch out for him in the climax! Amit Mistry also entertains, esp when Kunal wacks him at Boman’s house! The guy enacting the role of Dimple was funny too. Vinod Khanna and Simone Singh were great.
3 songs of the film stand out-the theme song, ‘Delhi Destiny’ and ‘What’s Up’. Fortunately, the song ‘What’s Up’ is played when the credits roll. Kudos to the director duo/editor for not incorporating the song in the film as it would have reduced the pace of the film.
Background score elated the film at several points. Rajeev Ravi’s cinematography was flawless. Cherag Todiwala’s editing was slick. Dialogues by Chintan Gandhi, Sita Menon and Raja Sen (the critic?) were amazing.
The story and screenplay is written by Raj Nidimoru, Krishna DK and Sita Menon. Story was inspired from the real-life events but was well-written. Screenplay was just amazing and certainly, one of the best of this year! They knew what they wanted to make and succeeded fully. They deserve maximum appreciation for those scenes where Kunal bangs the heads of so many throughout the film. The scene looked straight out of popular cartoons. Seems like the screenwriters were heavily inspired by comic series like Tom and Jerry!
Finally, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK do an exceptionally great job as directors. They surely have a long way to go. If they come up with such cool scripts for their directional ventures in future too, they’ll soon be the next Abbas-Mustan of Bollywood!
Some of the best scenes:
1. The first scene!
2. Sachin having a walk in South Mumbai and the titles rolling by
3. AGM’s meeting Sachin and Zaramud for the first time
4. Scenes of Rahul knocking at Jahanvi’s door
5. Sachin and Zaramud’s first meeting with Rahul
6. Sachin and Zaramud at Rahul’s office and the intermission point
7. Kuber getting wacked by Sachin at Rahul’s house
8. Sachin at Kuber’s suite (excellent!)
9. The final 25 minutes
On the whole, 99 is a smart, witty comic flick that would surely provide entertainment to the viewers. The film unfortunately hasn’t taken a flying start at the BO. But it’s a great film and with no other Hindi film running, 99 should be watched by all movie buffs. Recommended!
My rating-**** out of 5!

A-GRADE FILM FINALLY TO RELEASE!
7 weeks after8×10 Tasveer hit theatres, finally an A-grade film is all set to release tomorrow. 99, directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK stars Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan, Cyrus Broacha and Mahesh Manjrekar. After the strike commenced on April 4 (a day after 8×10 Tasveer released), only B-grade and uninteresting films such as Ek Se Bure Do, Pal Pal Dil Ke Ssaat, Coffee House, Meri Padosan, Royal Utsav, Ek Aur Qayamat etc (and also meaningful small films like Chowrasta and Frozen) released which obviously failed to attract crowds.
The tussle between multiplexes and producers has not yet ended and the producers have now decided to release their films, but only in single screens and independent multiplexes (and not in multiplex chains). This was surely a tough decision taken by the filmmakers since films whether big or small need multiplexes to make maximum profit. But at the same time, they had no other alternative since multiplexes are adamant and are in no mood to agree to their demands. Also, with so many Fridays going vacant, the pile of upcoming films has increased. Producers of many such films want to release their film in this year itself. However, there are not enough Fridays in this year for these films to release.
According to the plan chalked out by the producers at present, there will be a 2-week gap between each release since films are not going to release in multiplex chains. Films will start arriving on May 29 and the first one to hit the theatres is Vashu Bhagnani’s Kal Kissne Dekha (KKD). The next film after KKD will release on June 12 and the following one on June 26 and so on.
I feel this system is not satisfactory. Suppose if multiplexes don’t give in to the demands of the producers till 2009-end, then are the producers still going to follow this alternate-week plan? If yes, then only 16 more films will hit theatres in 2009 (Including May 29, there are 32 Fridays left in this year)! And there are some 80 films waiting to release! By the time the year ends, the number of such films will increase.
Now only the multiplexes can do something. It’s high time they put aside their ‘maximization of profit’ mentality and agree to the producer’s demands. They too have suffered a lot in these 7-8 weeks and agreeing to the reasonable demands of the producers won’t do any harm to them. Jaago multiplexes, jaago!
