Kangna Ranaut’s brilliant hat-trick as gangster’s moll
0Hiren Kotwani (BOMBAY TIMES; May 6, 2013)
Kangna Ranaut, who plays Mumbai gang-lord Manya Surve’s love interest in Shootout At Wadala (SAW), seems to be the all-time-favourite moll of gangster films. After earning acclaim for her performances in Anurag Basu’s Gangster and Milan Luthria’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai — she played a gangster’s girlfriend in both films — Kangna has scored a hat-trick with her latest portrayal in a similar genre, with critics and audience lauding her performance alike.
SAW director Sanjay Gupta especially chalked out the character of Vidya, Manya Surve’s love interest, after he learnt about her existence during his interaction with the police while researching on the subject.
Though her character was kept under wraps, Kangna ensured Vidya stood out with her portrayal and her on-screen chemistry with John Abraham. Bringing a certain tenderness to the raw machismo in the film, the actress essayed Vidya in a heart-wrenching, true-to-life manner that the National Award winner (Fashion) is known for.
All praise for his heroine, Gupta says, “Kangna is the tender soul of a very dangerous and violent world depicted in SAW. And it’s amazing how she has portrayed the character of Vidya minus any star trappings. She completely surrendered to the role and made it all her own.”
Besides being a powerhouse actress and eccentric style diva, Kangna is also among the most sought after leading ladies, proof of which lies in her line-up of films this More >
Rakesh Roshan scraps romantic song from Krrish 3?
1Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 23, 2013)
The Krrish franchise has so far been strong on song and dance numbers. It comes as a surprise then to know that Rakesh Roshan has scrapped a romantic track from Krrish 3.
According to reports, Papa Roshan saw the rough cut of the film and came to the conclusion that it does not need another song. The decision was taken in consultation with Hrithik, who, as reported by Mirror, is supervising the first promo of the film.
A source told this newspaper: “Krrish 3 has around four songs and most of them have already been shot. In fact, one particular song has been shot in the Swiss Alps.
This particular song was meant to be choreographed by Farah Khan, who won a national award for Idhar Chala Mei Udhar Chala in Koi Mil Gaya.”
When contacted, Farah admitted she is not choreographing for the film. Is there an overdose of romantic tracks in the film? The source clarified, “Krrish is an adrenalinpumping action film.
But in its heart it is also a Bollywood film which would be incomplete without Hrithik’s romantic songs. So no, there was no overdose as such. When Rakesh saw the rough cut he also looked at the larger picture and simply decided that this particular song was unnecessary.
Music director Rajesh Roshan was also informed about the last-minute change.” At the time of going to press, Rakesh Roshan had not responded to our query regarding the development.
Rakesh, Pinky Roshan celebrate anniversary on last day of Krrish 3 shoot
0Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; April 23, 2013)
Rakesh and Pinky Roshan celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary yesterday on the sets of their film Krrish 3. It also happened to be the last day of the film’s shoot. As it was a wrap- up, Roshan was keen not to cancel the shoot.
A source from the sets says, “There were two cakes which were cut. One for the completion of the film and second for the wedding anniversary. Both Pinky and Rakesh Roshan’s daughter Sunaina were on the sets to celebrate the occasion.” Hrithik took an active part in the celebrations. In the night, the Roshans had a quiet family dinner. “Every year Hrithik and Sussanne organise a huge party but Rakesh Roshan did not want to put off the last day of the shoot, so they decided to celebrate the anniversary by cutting a cake on the sets of Film City,” sums up the source.
Krazzy 4 director to assist Sajid Nadiadwala in Kick
0Nadiadwala, who turns director with Kick, is forming a team with formidable credentials to help him sail through
Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 16, 2013)
Jaideep Sen (right), who assisted Raj Kanwar in films including Jeet, Jaan, Judaai and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega, will now assist the man who produced these movies – Sajid Nadiadwala (left) – in his directorial debut, Kick.
This comes as a surprising move from Sen, who has already directed Krazzy 4 (2008) and is currently first assistant director to Rakesh Roshan in Krrish 3.The question that popped up was this: Why would an established director want to go back to being an assistant to a debutant director? Jaideep said: “Being a part of Kick is my privilege. Sajid is a role model and I was happy when he said yes to my request.” Nadiadwala, on his part confirmed, saying: “There are other people who have done short films in the past, who will also be assisting me.”
Apparently, the producer-director is busy building the right team for his first film as director, and has also cherry picked talented short film directors to help him in his endeavour.
A source close to the development said: “Sajid has been a hands-on producer for so many years, and is completely in control of the project in that role. However, as a director, it’s a completely different ball game. Sajid has never directed any film in the past and Jaideep will be the main person calling the shots.” A source close to Sen added: “Jaideep has been briefed More >
Perfectionist Hrithik Roshan to turn director?
0Hrithik Roshan has been increasingly taking his time to green light his ad and film projects. Friends say donning the director’s cap could well be in the offing…
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; April 12, 2013)
There was some buzz a while back about how Hrithik Roshan had pulled his new laptop ad off air and brought it back to the editing table to give it a final cut before re- releasing it for viewing.
Another ad that he did with a luxury watch brand also met with the same fate.
His constant strive to achieve perfection in terms of his film and ad deals have prompted many to believe that all this is a run- up to the actor finally wielding the megaphone. Move over Aamir Khan, the industry has an all- new Mr Perfectionist!
Not a smooth ride?
A source says, “Hrithik is the new perfectionist in Bollywood and gets involved in every aspect of filmmaking. He is also more in news for his involvement in the ad films that he does. For every product that he endorses, the actor wants to get involved right from the script to the editing. While it has worked fabulously well for him, it sometimes hampers his image in the ad industry, as they are constantly working on short deadlines and even shorter time frames for their product launches.”
Ads vs films
Ad-man Prahlad Kakkar says, “Hrithik does everything extremely professionally and believes that if the ad turns out well, it will only do him good. Obviously money is important but he is very particular about the way the final product looks. More >
Krrish 3 to release on Sunday, November 3
0Hiren Kotwani (BOMBAY TIMES; April 8, 2013)
Hrithik Roshan’s next superhero film will be release on a Sunday. It will open in cinemas on November 3. The reason being that it’s the day of Laxmi Puja and the Friday before that is Dhanteras, when people will be busy shopping for Diwali. A distributor associated with the Roshans explains, “Over the years, we’ve seen that the two weeks before Diwali have been slow for the box-office. Until the day of Laxmi Puja, people are busy shopping for the festival. So November 3 is a better day to open the film than November 1. Friday will be Dhanteras and people will be too preoccupied with their festival purchasing to view a film. So even though people will be doing poojas at homes and offices on Lakshmi Puja day, that is Sunday, the theatres will be full of audiences eager to catch Hrithik’s newest superhero movie on first day.”
When contacted, Rakesh Roshan confirmed his film’s release date saying, “It’s the day of Laxmi Puja, a very auspicious day for new beginnings. And it’s a Sunday, which is a holiday.”

Relationships are boring-Kangna Ranaut
0A year of singledom and six back-to-back releases, that’s what birthday girl Kangna Ranaut is looking forward to this year
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; March 23, 2013)
Looks like working birthdays is a trend in Bollywood. Though Kangna Ranaut, who is turning 26 today, has a party planned for her friends in the night she will spend the rest of the day dubbing for her upcoming film with Sanjay Gupta. The actress feels that while she didn’t have a single release last year, 2013 will prove to be lucky for her.
Kangna says, “I have not had a single release last year but this year till my next birthday I will be having six films including Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala, Sai Kabir’s Revolver Rani, Queens, I Love NY with Sunny Deol and Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3.” The actress feels that while several other Bollywood actresses today are replaceable, she has already created her niche in the industry. “I feel I’m in a very comfortable zone right now. It feels nice when I get so much respect contrary to the other actresses who can be swapped any time.” Kangs gushes about when Rakesh Roshan told her he envisioned her alone for the action role in Hrithik’s next. In fact, Vikas Bahl too apparently told her he wouldn’t be making Queens if she didn’t green-light the project.
The actress wonders aloud, “Paisa to sab hi bana lete hai, respect kitne log banate hai? I enjoy that I am getting due credit for my films.” Ask her if this specific image could work against her bagging commercial More >
