Nikhil Dwivedi is someone who does not fall in to the typical synonym of the typical tall, dark, handsome Bollywood hero. He is someone who can rightly be called as the ‘Thinking Man’s Actor’, for he is not just artistically oriented but academically as well… as he holds a dual MBA degree, wherein, one MBA stands for ‘Masters in Business Administration’ while the second stands for ‘Masters in Bollywood Acting’.

Armed with films like My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves and others, Nikhil is someone who is surely a name to watch out for in the days to come, for his stellar and much-talked about performance in the flick Shor In the City. Satish Sundaresan of Bollywood Hungama caught up with this actor wherein he talks all about his dream role, his favourite movies and his take on Mumbai. Over to you, Nikhil!

That’s why KJo has chosen to remake this film

Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; September 21, 2010)

Yash Johar’s Agneepath, directed by Mukul Anand in 1990 with Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, was one of India’s earliest cult classics. “It wasn’t a box office hit, but not a day goes by when this film is not spoken about in superlatives,” says Karan Johar, who will make his version of this film with the very handsome Hrithik Roshan.

KJo says, “By remaking Agneepath, I will be living up to a promise I made to my father. Amit uncle’s version had one of his finest performances, he even won the National Award for it. Agneepath is the quintessential underworld film that has become a point of reference for several filmmakers. Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, the character that Amit uncle played, is etched in everyone’s memory. My father (Yash Johar) often wondered why this film didn’t get the kind of commercial success it should have. He constantly told me, ‘Karan, we must remake Agneepath.’ Somehow, I couldn’t see myself directing the remake. But when my assistant Karan Malhotra, who was my backbone on MNIK, said he would like to revisit this subject and recreate the magic, I instantly agreed to produce the film.”

Dharma Productions’ new avatar of Agneepath will have some definite changes. The film’s hero now is a flamboyant 28-30 year-old with a largerthan-life persona. The inimitable coconut vendor Krishnan Iyer MA, played by Mithun More >

Mithun Chakraborty

Twenty years after he regaled his fans with the character of Krishnan Iyer MA in Agneepath (1990), Mithun Chakraborty is making a return to comedy – he will replace Paresh Rawal in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3.

Director Rohit Shetty confirms, “Paresh had told us that he won’t be able to do the film because of date issues while we were still writing the script. That’s when we thought of Mithunda. I think he is a fantastic actor and did some superb comedy in Agneepath. It is a surprise that people don’t use him in comedy. We met him, narrated the script and he was on. It was as simple as that. These days it’s easier to sign veteran and legendary actors than some newcomers.”

Rumour has it: Karan Johar to remake Agneepath

He has approached Hrithik to play the brooding Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, which was played by Amitabh in the original By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 18, 2009)

Hrithik Roshan

Karan Johar

Karan Johar is all set to remake the blockbuster, Agneepath. While he had to pay an astronomical amount to buy the rights of the Hollywood blockbuster Stepmom, which he is remaking in Hindi, he does not need to buy the rights to remake Agneepath as it is his home production. His late father, Yash Johar had produced the 1990 Amitabh Bachchan-Mithun Chakraborty starrer, which was directed by the late Mukul Anand. Amitabh had won a National Award for his performance in Agneepath.

Karan has approached Hrithik Roshan to step in to Amitabh’s shoes.

A source said, “Karan has been planning to remake Agneepath but he was waiting for the right time. Now, he is confident that his company, Dharma Productions, can make multiple films at the same time. The film will be directed by Karan Malhotra, who Karan thinks is one of his most promising assistants. While some changes will be made in the script to give it a contemporary feel, Karan does not want to change any dialogue as he is very confident of the dialogue in the original Agneepath.”

“Surprisingly, Karan has not approached Abhishek Bachchan to play Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, which was played by the actor’s father in the original. While Hrithik is still deciding if he wants to star in the remake, Karan is sure that Hrithik is the More >
