Siddharth Anand’s official remake of the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight And Day just got more exciting. After roping in Hrithik Roshan to reprise Cruise’s role and getting Katrina Kaif on board to be the desi Diaz, the director has planned out an impressive itinerary for the shoot. The action thriller will be shot in Kashmir for over 40 days, making it one of the longest schedules in the valley in recent times (Yash Chopra shot Jab Tak Hai Jaan in Kashmir for 12 days). What’s more, the project has now been christened a catchy Bang Bang. “Knight And Day was a popular film worldwide and to arrive upon an equally appealing title for its Hindi remake wasn’t easy. Siddharth sat down with his team for several brainstorming sessions before they locked in on Bang Bang,” said a source. There is also speculation that the film title could also be a nod to Nancy Sinatra’s song by the same name which was cleverly used by Quentin Tarantino in Kill Bill.

The on-the-run romcom will go on floors a day after St Valentine’s Day (quite apt?). And the crew will leave for the first schedule in Kashmir a day before. “Siddharth decided to shoot the majority of the film in the valley and went with his crew for the recce last month. They finalised all the locations where Hrithik and Katrina will shoot,” the source added.

For those who missed the 2010 Hollywood hit, it is a spy-on-the-run thriller replete with action. Needless to say, the Hindi More >

Becomes the first actor to charge the amount upfront, and gets it for Siddharth Anand’s remake of Knight And Day

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 24, 2012)

Hrithik Roshan has done it again. He has hiked his fee for the second time in six years. And this time, the jump is as much as 50 per cent. In 2006, the actor had hiked his fee by 21 per cent. While you do the math, let’s sum it up for you. Hrithik has reportedly charged a jaw-dropping amount of Rs 30 crore from Fox Star Studios, the producers of his next Siddharth Anand directorial – the official remake of Hollywood hit Knight And Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. And this is the highest amount any actor has charged up front till date. The last time any star came close to this was Salman Khan, who charged Rs 27 crore for Ek Tha Tiger.

Apparently, the actor who is currently completing his home production Krrish 3 with director daddy Rakesh, took the decision after the runaway success of Agneepath earlier this year.

Though the production house and Hrithik chose to remain tightlipped about the Knight And Day deal, several trade experts and analysts confirmed Hrithik’s price hike off the record.

In fact trade analyst Amod Mehra opined, “So what if Hrithik is charging Rs 30 crore for the film? I think it’s less compared to what he gives in to his projects.”

According to a source from the trade, there are only a handful of actors who are considered for solohero projects these days. And most of them (namely, More >

Shahid says no to Vishal Bhardwaj’s next?

The actor turned down his Kaminey director choosing not to step into the shoes left empty by Ajay Devgn in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 19, 2011)

On October 15, Mumbai Mirror reported that Ajay Devgn had opted out of Vishal Bharadwaj’s next film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) in favour of Ashwini Dhir’s Son Of Sardar since big monies were involved in the latter. Looking for an actor to fit in the character, Bhardwaj approached his Kaminey star Shahid Kapoor. Citing date problems, Shahid too has now refused to be a part of the filmmaker’s upcoming comedy.

A source told Mumbai Mirror, “After Ajay Devgn said no to MKBKM, Vishal thought Shahid would be a good choice opposite Anushka since their film Badmaash Company was received well by the audiences and critics. However, Shahid has refused to be a part of the project since he is busy with Kunal Kohli’s film Muqtassar and then Siddharth Anand’s remake of Knight and Day.”

While some may attribute Shahid’s refusal to the creative differences he had with the filmmaker during the making of Kaminey, our source revealed, “Shahid is now fine with Vishal. He really had date issues with MKBKM. He will definitely do Kaminey 2 with him next year, woh pakka hai.”

“Shahid is very keen on working with different directors. He has three films that will go on floors next year apart from his current projects. His schedule is choc-a-bloc right now. He has given out bulk dates to his next films,” added More >

Director Siddharth Anand confirmed it will be an action packed film; industry speculates it’s a remake of Hollywood hit Knight and Day

Noyon Parasara (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 18, 2011)

On April 17, 2011, Mumbai Mirror broke the news that Shahid Kapoor will star in a suspected action flick directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Ramesh Taurani of Tips.

The industry is abuzz with speculation that the film is along the lines of the Hollywood hit Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise.

A source close to the Tips production house, told us, “It is quite similar to the movie Knight and Day. In fact the filmmakers want to purchase the rights to the original.”

Although Anand confirms that Kapoor will have his first shot in an action film, he denies the rumours about its similarity to the Hollywood movie. He tells us, “No, Tips has got nothing to do with Knight and Day.

We are making an original film. It’s a different genre altogether. Shahid’s film is an all out action flick.”

Taurani, on the other hand, not only dismisses the speculations but also manages to contradict the genre of the film that Anand confirmed.

The head honcho of Tips said, “What is this film Knight and Day? No it’s wrong. We are making a romantic film, not action.”
