Everybody now wants to be my friend-KBC winner
0Winning Rs 5 crore in Kaun Banega Crorepati has changed life in ways more than one, reveals Sushil Kumar
Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 29, 2011)
Winning Rs 5 crore… How was the feeling? Mr Amitabh Bachchan, the man I had gone to see was hugging me and telling me that I had won Rs 5 crore. It had to be a dream. I was very nervous on the show. I was sweating even in the air-conditioned studio. But Bachchan saab encouraged me. I had very little self-confidence. Now, I feel more confident about life.
What is the reaction back home? My town, is celebrating my victory. Also, people who never used to bother about me have suddenly become ‘good’ friends. People who never answered calls are calling me up.
Did you expect to win Rs 5 crore? Rs 25 lakh would have been enough to transform my life. We are five brothers living in a rented house in Motihari. I earn Rs 6000 a month. Together, we make Rs 15,000. We manage to run our home. My father was a labourer. I thought if I win Rs 25 lakh, I’d be able to look after my family.
You know, I had been watching the show for the last 11 years. Earlier, we did not have a television at home, so I used to watch it at my neighbour’s house. Our family faced great financial hardships. And I felt that only KBC could transform our lives. My family has a loan of approximately Rs 5 lakh to pay off. That’s the first thing I’ll now do with my prize money. Then, I’ll repair our family home. And then I want to invest money in the education of More >

Big B bars family from appearing on KBC
0By Subhash K. Jha, December 1, 2010 – 10:26 IST
After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, it’s Abhishek Bachchan, who has stayed away from Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), hosted by his father Amitabh Bachchan.
This week, the director Ashutosh Gowariker and his leading lady Deepika Padukone of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey recorded an episode of KBC. Abhishek opted out, although this is a crucial release for him.
Apparently, there was much behind-the-scenes maneuvering to convince Abhishek to occupy the hot seat in front of his iconic dad-host. Abhishek refused to budge.
Says a source, “Both the channel personnel and the crew of Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey felt getting Abhishek and his dad on the same platform would be great publicity for Abhishek’s film. Abhishek wouldn’t relent. They finally went on the show without him.”
In fact, the channel’s plans to bring the entire Bachchan parivar for the grand finale on December 9 has also fallen through. According to sources, the Big B thwarted the plans of getting his family on the show by throwing the rule-book at the channel. They finally had to make the finale a Sholay special featuring the Big B with Dharmendra.
Says Sony Entertainment’s CEO Ajit Thakur, “We were indeed in advanced talks with the Bachchan family to come on the show. However, it finally didn’t work out. Even Abhishek is missing in the episode featuring his colleagues for the promotion of their film.”
Argues Big B, “As per the rules and regulations of the company that owns More >
Anil ditches Tom for Bachchan!
0Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; November 23, 2010)
To keep his date with Amitabh Bachchan in KBC’s hot seat yesterday, Anil Kapoor left poor Tom Cruise hanging! The story goes that Anil, who is now the new global Indian star, was shooting Mission Impossible 4 in Dubai. And no sooner was the shoot done, than he took off for Mumbai, ditching Cruise and the customary bonding session that happens when a film is completed. Anil is promoting his forthcoming Bollywood film by Anees Bazmee and one such promotional activity had him opposite Bachchan — his one-time big industry rival. Naturally, he was anxious to keep that date at any cost. Doubly so because Anil himself has played the role of the quizmaster of the same show in Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. And it is this role that opened Hollywood’s doors for him. So Anil told Cruise and the cast of MI4 his dilemma. And the Hollywood superstar and everyone else made sure that their schedule wrapped up as per Anil’s requirement. Anil told BT, “I had to rush from the set to the airport to be back in Mumbai in time because I was really looking forward to shooting with Amitabh Bachchan.”
Here’s why Ash didnt turn up for KBC
0The actress allegedly chose to stay away from KBC on learning that her Action Replayy co-stars were donating proceeds from the show to Sallu’s Being Human kitty
Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 27, 2010)
On Monday evening, Aishwarya Rai shocked the unit of Kaun Banega Crorepati, a show her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan hosts.
Ash was supposed to turn up for one of the KBC shoots with Akshay Kumar and her other co-stars, to promote her next Action Replayy. She never went.
Until Sunday, the officials of the channel were unaware that Ash would finally not turn up for the shoot. Naturally, when they were informed on Monday, they could do precious little to salvage the situation.
What is even more shocking is the reason why Aishwarya skipped the shoot. Says a source, “Aishwarya learnt that the Action Replayy team had decided to donate their entire amount they might win on KBC to Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation. This is why she stayed away from the show.”
Though Aishwarya did not turn up for the show, all her other co-stars from the film, including the director Vipul Shah completed the shoot. The winning amount, Rs 50 lakh, as promised was donated to Salman’s charity foundation.”
Neither confirming nor denying the story, the channel’s spokesperson said, “No comments.”
We sent a text to Aishwarya’s spokesperson, who replied, “The story is completely untrue. As far as my understanding goes, family members are not participating on More >
Vijender, Leander, Sreesanth gear up for KBC
0With Amitabh Bachchan back on the fourth season of the show, Kaun Banega Crorepati seems to be on a roll. And the guest list is improving by the day.
One hears that apart from having Bollywood stars on the show, KBC will soon be hosting sportsmen as well.
Apparently, the show will have a special episode dedicated only to sports, in which sportsmen from various fields will play a different game and not the one they specialise in.
A source says, “This Sunday, Bachchan will be shooting with sportsmen like boxing champion Vijender Singh, tennis champion Leander Paes, cricketer Sreesanth, badminton champion Jwala Gutta among others.
The episode will be aired in the first week of November.”
There’ll be no bday celebrations at home-Amitabh Bachchan
0Amitabh Bachchan is a busy bee a couple of days ahead of his 68th. He is shooting simultaneously for his new film Power, directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, and Kaun Banega Crorepati.
A few nights ago he stole the show walking the ramp for Karan Johar. His energy is at an all-time high.
Excerpts from a tête-à-tête.
So, all set for the birthday celebrations at home?
Hold on! There will be no celebrations at home. Of course, if people come over unannounced, they’re most welcome. I’ll be opening KBC this day. I have been working late into the nights recording promos for the show.
Is Rajnikanth coming to Mumbai for your birthday?
There are no such plans. But we’ve great affection for one another. I met Rajni for the first time in Chennai when I was shooting at the AVM Studios. He came across and met me. We’ve been friends ever since. He’s such a humble and simple human being. So down-to-earth… how he remains that way with the kind of fan-following he has is a mystery.
His wife has been a wonderful support. She has brought up their children so well. Every time I am in Chennai, I call and visit him. We call each other whenever the need arises.
What did you think of Robot?
What a massive achievement! Great entertainer. It’s all Rajni and Shankar and their hard work.
On the eve of your birthday you rocked on the ramp.
Thank you… Kya Karen, karna padta hai kissi terah.
How do you it?

Big B has butterflies in his tummy as he returns with India’s favourite game show on his birthday tomorrow
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; October 10, 2010)
Starting 9 pm tomorrow the streets of India are likely to resemble a ghost town. The iconic Amitabh Bachchan, the man who changed the face of Indian television, is returning to the country’s favourite game show Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony Entertainment Television. Adrenaline rushes will be felt by most, especially when it comes to watching who amongst the audience makes it to the hot seat and gets a shot at becoming a crorepati.
Talking about his favourite show, the Big B says, “Kaun Banega Crorepati is truly a show which is of the people, by the people and for the people. It gives every Indian an equal opportunity to win a life changing amount. In our culture we are taught to value knowledge, that it is rewarding, KBC re-affirms that view as a person can use that knowledge and win 5 crore on the show.” Describing that empty feeling in the pit of his stomach as he gets ready to host KBC, he says, “One is always anxious because it is a creative job. One has to come in front of an audience. And, the audience is going to rate us on how we have done, whether we have lived up to their expectation or not. When you have to present something to the audience, there is always that apprehension. With creativity comes nervousness.’’
The legend also admits that a part of the nervousness More >
