Kareena Kapoor and her father Randhir Kapoor are teaming up for the first time to play reel-life father and daughter in Karan Johar’s next film, Short Term Shaadi. Randhir and his daughters Kareena and Karisma have become really thick recently. His wife, Babita, too is spending quality time with the former actor after his recent health scare brought the couple, who have faced marital trouble in the past, closer together. A source close to the project reveals, “Kareena is really excited. After spending years in the industry, this is the first film that is making her play daughter to her own father. She and her dad gel really well and they are both happy to do a project together. They will rehearse together, too. Randhir, on the other hand, is delighted that he will be spending more quality time with his busy daughter who is neck-deep in work. Babita, too, is looking forward to see her husband work with Kareena. She has been heard saying that she can’t wait to see them in the same frame.”
The entire Kapoor family, including Karisma, is likely to be present on the sets when Kareena and Randhir do their first scene together. It’s going to be one big happy family reunion and an emotional one also for them. The film, reported to be inspired by the Cameron Diaz-Ashton Kutcher starrer What Happens in Vegas, it is not a remake of the Hollywood hit. However, Short Term Shaadi will be shot in Vegas where two people (Imran and Kareena) get married after getting drunk. Though they decide to get divorced as they hate each other, they end up falling in love.
Saif celebrating Bebo’s birthday at Hollywood actor’s restaurant
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; September 19, 2010)
Kareena Kapoor’s birthday plans for September 21 have undergone a change. Bebo was to originally fly to Paris with her mother, sister Karisma and beau Saif Ali Khan. Now Babita Kapoor and Karisma have dropped out because Karisma’s children are too young and the actress doesn’t want to put them through too much travel in a span of just four days. Saif is now taking his girlfriend for a four-day trip to the most romantic city in the world. While the actors are likely to stay at the Ritz Hotel, they will be having the birthday dinner at the Mandala Ray, a restaurant near the Champs Elysees. This restaurant and bar is co-owned by Johnny Depp, Sean Penn and John Malkovich.
Bebo says, “Both Saif and I are crazy about Johnny Depp. And Saif just thought it is appropriate to buy me my birthday dinner at Johnny’s restaurant.” The actress won’t reveal anything further… but one hears that Saif has another ‘surprise’ planned for her in connection to Johnny Depp. But this one is truly a surprise and Saif refuses to divulge anything till after the 21st.
Kareena confesses she barely has time to breathe thanks to her hectic shooting schedule
It isn’t going to be a very happy 30th birthday for Kareena Kapoor on September 21. She will be far away from home, shooting for Sriram Raghavan’s Agent Vinod in Latvia.
Earlier in July, she missed her sister Karisma’s birthday as she was shooting in London with Shah Rukh Khan for Ra.One.
The only bright spot in this birthday away from home is that Saif will be with her. And since Agent Vinod is a home production, Saif and Kareena are planning to fly down Kareena’s mother to Latvia for the birthday. Karisma cannot join them because of her baby.
Kareena expresses helplessness about her impossible schedules. “What can I do? I barely have time to breathe. I just came to Mumbai for two days after being away for 25 days. Now, I’m off to Latvia for over a month’s shooting,” said Kareena. Confirming that the shooting of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine has indeed been postponed Kareena says, “Madhur is still working on the script. We’ll start shooting the film when the script is ready in the next three months. Right now, Madhur is busy with Dil To Bachcha Hai Jee.”
Says the actress, “I’m now entering a new phase in my life and career. This year, I hope to conquer many new peaks. By God’s grace, Agent Vinod and Ra.One are shaping up very well.”

This is funny. Neil Nitin Mukesh had to kiss Deepika Padukone on screen for their forthcoming film Lafangey Parindey and the actor reportedly got cold feet. Not because he’s a virgin screenkisser and, well, Deepika has the experience of kissing Saif Ali Khan before camera for Love Aaj Kal… but, apparently, because Neil’s had a no-kiss policy in all his films so far. His first director Sriram Raghavan had thrown a fit when Neil refused to kiss Rimi Sen. In his second film, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, director Sudhir Mishra insisted Neil kiss Shahana Goswami. But the actor refused. Even in Jail where there was a love-making scene with Mughda Godse, Neil refused to kiss the sultry actress. But Lafange Parindey director Pradeep Sarkar pulled the plug on Neil’s chastity vow. A source from the set said it was a long, torrid smooch comparable in intensity and duration to the Aamir Khan-Karisma Kapoor kiss in Raja Hindustani. And Neil was nervous! To be kissing the lovely Deepika! Makes us wonder…
Karisma Kapoor is a busy mom now but for sis Kareena, she always makes an exception. Karisma is waiting with baited breath for Kareena’s next We are Family (a remake of the Hollywood flick Stepmom).
Debutant director Siddharth Malhotra has prepared the first trailer of the film, which will hit the theatres with Punit Malhotra’s I Hate Luv Storys next week. Karisma couldn’t wait to see it and dropped in at Karan Johar’s office on Wednesday.

A source reveals, “Dressed in casuals, Karisma came along with Kareena to Karan’s office to watch the first trailer of We are Family. The two-minute-long trailer totally impressed Karisma.
In fact, she was also heard jokingly wishing she were part of this film. Stepmom is one of her favourites and she admires the way Bebo has carried herself as a classy photographer in the film. After watching the trailer the two sisters were chatting with Karan.” Is he planning to sign the sisters for his next? Only time will tell.

Ten years after they made their debut in J P Dutta’s Refugee, there’s the exciting rumour that Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan might act together again. That they have not done another film with each other since 2000 is not because of a paucity of roles or offers from Bollywood to bring them back. The reason is more personal. Abhi’s broken engagement to Bebo’s sister Karisma in January 2003 led to a cooling off of relations between the Bachchans and the Kapoors. Naturally, filmmakers’ enthusiasm to see the hot young stars together dried up with that. But so much of water has flown down the Mithi River since then and both, Abhi and Karisma, are happily married now. So why should not he accept a role against the sister? And so, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (who has always wanted to work with Kareena and vice versa) is reportedly looking at casting Abhishek in his film Hira Mandi opposite the film industry’s leading actress. Bhansali will take up work on this film after he wraps up Guzaarish because, by then, Kareena will also be done with Ra One. Initially, it was thought the filmmaker might stick to Hrithik Roshan (his hero from Guzaarish) for Hira Mandi, but sources say Abhishek is the more likely candidate for the role. Incidentally, both Abhi and Bebo have admitted in separate interviews that if the right script came their way, they would be more than glad to work with each other.
After several near misses — right from Bajirao Mastani to Black — Kareena Kapoor will finally star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to cast Kareena Kapoor in his next film after Guzaarish. Apparently, they have been itching to work together for many years now. Right after Devdas, Bhansali wanted to cast Kareena opposite Abhishek Bachchan in a film on the life of Mahatma Gandhi’s son Harilal.
That project fell through and Bhansali began planning his ambitious historical, Bajirao Mastani, with Salman Khan and Kareena. In the meantime however, Kareena and Salman did the unthinkable by signing Priyadarshan’s Kyon Ki, thereby killing Bhansali’s plans.

Then came Black. Kareena was a very strong contender for the protagonist’s role. But her family’s strained relations with the Bachchans at that point (with Kareena’s sister Karisma’s engagement with Abhishek falling through) ruined her chances of playing the lead.
The Kareena-Bhansali collaboration would invariably run into one stumbling block after another. A source close to both commented, “It was almost as though fate planned to bring them together for something really major.”
Though details of Bhansali’s new project are not available at the moment, he is believed to be casting Kareena as one of the leads in his kotha epic Heera Mandi. According to Bhansali’s associates though, the director has different plans for Kareena.
While Bhansali remained unavailable for comment, Kareena confirmed that she is indeed set to work with the director. She says, “Sanjay and I have been missing working with each other for many years and are now talking about roles. I am meeting Sanjay again after I return from Morocco from the shooting of Agent Vinod.”
The Kapoor kudis are both on diet…
MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; June 16, 2010)
Spotted: Karisma Kapoor dressed in a bright red shirt, with kohl-lined eyes, huge solitaries blazing her ears, ordering herself a fancy meal at a new hip roadside cafe on Pali Hill.
Lolo had stepped out alone, yes, minus her two kids and her husband Sanjay Kapur. Her intention was simple — to spoil herself silly. As the rain poured down hard outside, Lolo decided to dig into a meal of her choice.
The reason this actress, who is usually very careful with what she eats, was eating to her heart’s content is because she goes into a strict diet for the next 11 days. On June 25, when Lolo turns 36, she wants to get into the designer outfit her younger sister Kareena has ordered for her.
While Lolo was dining alone at her favourite food joint, Bebo who is shooting Golmaal-3 in Hyderabad, was sulking. “God I’m missing Mumbai and I’m missing spending time with Lolo and my nephew,” she said.
Bebo who calls Karisma her size zero inspiration, had a surprise revelation to make. “For once, things are the exact opposite for the two of us. Lolo is trying to lose her post-natal fat; and I’m trying to put on a little weight. I want to be perfectly rounded. I’m bored of being too thin. And I actually enjoy eating at this neighbourhood cafe where you bumped into Lolo.”
We met Kareena for a chat at Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence where she was beaming because of her newborn nephew and her week-long break to spend time with family. Kareena was surfing the net when we entered the tastefully done apartment. Saif left for some shopping when the interview began and came back later for a casual chat.
• How is life now that you have become a maasi for the second time?
Absolutely amazing. The baby boy (Kiaan) is really cute. Samaria looks so much like Sunjay (Kapur) but the newborn looks just like Karisma. It’s celebration time as the family has a boy after a long time.
• 3 Idiots has smashed all box-office records and you have managed to hold your ground in an Aamir Khan film. Comment.
I think it’s also because it is a Raju Hirani film. It’s the first time and Aamir and I starred together so there were a lot of expectations. I feel that I make the best pair with Aamir.
• You only did the film because of Aamir and Raju.
In each of my films, good or bad, I have always stood out irrespective of the presence of other actors. I am doing Ra.One and I have fantastic roles in Agent Vinod and Golmaal 3. I have strived really hard to be known first as an actor then a star. I would hate it if someone tells me that I looked very good in my films and I hope that I am cast for my talent and not for my beauty.
I am here to sell my talent and I take great pride when I am offered a role in a boys’ film like 3 Idiots. I think my audience no longer likes me in films like Kambakkht Ishq and honestly I have realised that I won’t make that mistake again.
• Kurbaan got good reviews but it didn’t work.
An actor is an actor because of failures, not success. A superstar is one who overcomes failures and people remember how good you are in a film, which has not worked. I am what I am because of my flops. Anybody can give two super hits and become number one.
• Is there a long thought process before signing a film now?
Sometimes there is no thought process at all. We actors are like scientists who keep on experimenting. People should know that Kareena takes risks and I did Chameli when I was 23 years old. I don’t care about what people say about Tashan as I gave everything to the film by changing my body. How many actresses have the courage to take up the challenge of transforming themselves especially in this male dominated industry? Tashan was an achievement as I also met Saif during the film. Sometimes flop films and not hits is great news for actors.
• How do you mange to have a good equation with all the Khans?
I have chosen the safest Khan for my personal life. I don’t know if there are any sides as all of them are really different. Saif and I are great friends with Aamir and Shah Rukh is like family. My sister loves Salman.
• It’s said that you are the highest paid actress in the industry today. Is it true?
I don’t know. You tell me as every day there are reports that so and so is charging so much. If there is a list on highest paid actresses, I want to be number ten.
• But the rivalry is evident when it comes to endorsements.
A brand will sign me if they think I am good. There are only three shampoos and three soaps in the market so where does the question of who is the most wanted actress arise? Everybody has brands to endorse.
• How do you manage to take frequent breaks given your busy schedule?
I take lot of off time as it’s very important for an actor to work do great work and take breaks. I must spend time with family and my loved ones or else I will just wear off, I will die, and my looks will fade. I do four movies and 12 brands a year so I need to travel all over the world and explore, which also shows in my acting. I have instructed Zahid (secretary) that after every three months I need to have a break for at least a week to look rejuvenated.
Although I appreciate people who want to work all year, I can’t do it.
• There is so much speculation about your and Saif’s relationship and wedding. Does it affect you?
We have been open about our relationship and that’s why we are the hottest couple. If we get married now there will be no curiosity. We are enjoying all the attention and are used to news about us getting married and breaking up all the time. Whenever we get married, we will let the world will know.
• Are wedding bells five years down the line?
It will be much lesser than that. (Laughs)
• News is that you are buying an IPL team with Saif?
We did go for the bidding and we had all the papers in place but it got cancelled. If we are rebidding, it will be Saif’s call. I don’t understand cricket but Saif follows it. Movies are my only passion.
• There are reports that you and Saif are planning a joint production house?
I want directors and producers to make films for me. I don’t want to make films for myself. Professionally we are dramatically different as I sign a film saying ‘let’s do it’ while Saif won’t do a film till he is 100 per cent sure.
• Are you doing Madhur Bhandarkar’s next film?
I would love to work with Madhur. We are working on a script but nothing has been finalised yet.
• What about Milenge Milenge and the constant issues about Shahid Kapoor?
These talks have resurfaced as Milenge Milenge will soon release. I have told Boney Kapoor (producer) that I am ready to promote the film. As for reports about Shahid and me, I am used to it.
Karisma Kapoor delivered a baby boy yesterday morning at Breach Candy hospital. She already has a daughter, Samaira. Both Karisma and the baby boy are in good health. Present at the hospital, apart from husband Sunjay Kapur, were sister Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Said Kareena, “All is good. The baby is healthy and so is Karisma. We are yet to decide on the name but it will be something that starts with a K.”
While Sunjay Kapur, who has been camping in Mumbai for five days now, is thrilled to be a father again, he’s definitely not discounting his options. “Is my family complete now? Who knows? I think the more the merrier,” he laughs.
Though he insists there’s no name he has in mind for his son yet, Sunjay is not ruling out Kareena’s suggestion for it to start with a K. “We’ll decide soon enough. Samaira looks a lot like me and I’m hoping my son will take after Karisma. I must say Samaira is very thrilled. She just celebrated her fifth birthday on March 11 and a day later she has a brother.”
Sunjay said he plans to stay in Mumbai with his family till the end of the month at least. “Samaira’s school is in session, so they won’t be coming with me immediately. Once her summer vacations start, all three of them will join me in Delhi.”
And while he’s here, there’s word that Sunjay might be playing a polo match next week. “I haven’t brought my horses here, but I might get some friend to mount me on a horse,” he said.
