Mirror gets you the glamour and the glitz straight off the red carpet

Karan Johar turned forty. And anybody who is somebody in the Indian cinema industry or Mumbai social scene came to wish the birthday boy. Dressed in a tuxedo KJo was one of the first ones to arrive for the bash planned by good friend Manish Malhotra at a suburban five star on Friday evening. KJo like a sweet son waited for his mum to arrive at the red carpet too. But the black and red themed party scheduled for a nine ‘o clock curtain raiser started warming up only past eleven. And out of the many surprises last evening, the party saw Shah Rukh Khan walking in with wife Gauri. The last time the couple were spotted reaching an event together was perhaps last year. But for KJo, the Khans surely decided to put all rumours to rest.

Amongst the first ones to come were Punit Malhotra sporting a green bow tie and Vidhu Vinod Chopra with his wife Anupama. Anil Ambani with wife Tina came next followed by Karan Malhotra, Boman Irani and family and Sooraj Barjatya, who came with his wife. Kajol arrived with sister Tanisha. Ali Zafar deviated from the black and red dress code and chose a white suit. So did Imran Khan, who walked in with wife Avantika a little later. Karan Johar turns 39 today. The eternally young KJo is not planning to celebrate his birthday this year. But he will spend it with his near and dear ones. Here the still-young filmmaker talks about how he will spend the year, his youngest film yet, and the changes he hopes to make in his life before this year ends. Read on…

So what’s the birthday plan? No plan. There is a crucial match for Shah Rukh’s team and we are all going to be at his place watching the match on the big screen, and praying.

If you and your gang are at Mannat, party is inevitable. Especially if SRK’s team wins. Really, not even thinking of the party. Anyway I think I may be too old to party now.

Old? You are turning 39! Yes. And next year I will be checking myself into a clinic because I will go into depression at the thought of becoming 40. I am presently clinging on to the last vestiges of youth. I have even started colouring my hair. Soon, I will have to go to my Wikipedia profile, and change the ‘young filmmaker’ bit.

And yet your next, Student Of The Year, is your youngest film ever. Yes, it is based in college. Part of my first film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was too but I was in my twenties then. Ranbir-Anushka: Yeh Nazdikiyaan

Anushka Sharma is bonding with Ranbir Kapoor, first at a party, then her house and at a dinner recently

Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; March 21, 2011) There’s something interesting brewing between Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. The two first met at Karan Johar’s party in February. It was evident to all present that the Band Bajaa Baaraat girl was interested in the RK boy. Even the presence of then girlfriend Katrina Kaif, didn’t stop her from making eyes at Ranbir. She also blatantly ignored her beau Ranveer Singh who was left to dance by himself, while she gyrated purely for Kapoor’s benefit.

On Karan Johar’s show Anushka confessed that she would love to date Ranbir. Close friends of Kapoor swear he is single now, so what’s to stop her from making her move? Everyone thought their ‘chemistry’ was just party fervour for the night. Shortly after, she had a party for a select group of friends at her home, and she invited Ranbir too. Also present was his wingman, Ayan Mukherjee. Meanwhile, it is believed that Anushka and Ranveer after a huge spat, have agreed to stay friends, instead of lovers.

On Thursday night, Ranbir and Anushka were spotted together again. This time they were out for dinner with a bunch of friends which also included Ranveer and Shahid Kapoor.
