17-year-old to play Kangna Ranaut’s hero in Rajjo
0BOMBAY TIMES (April 7, 2013)
We have already reported that Kangana Ranaut plays a nautch girl in Vishwas Patil’s Rajjo. However, what was kept under wraps until recently is the fact that a 17-year-old boy, Paras Arora, is playing her love interest. Paras, who hails from Bareilly, is a TV actor and was critically acclaimed for his performance in the award-winning historical series Veer Shivaji. The film also has Prakash Raj and Mahesh Manjrekar in key roles.
Paras was set to appear for his board exams when he was offered the role. And the young actor, not willing to let go of his first Bollywood offer, decided to take his examinations in October. Says a source, “The Director of Photography (DOP) of the film, Binod Pradhan, and Vishwas were looking for a male lead. But despite several attempts, the two couldn’t find a suitable 18-year-old.”
Says Vishwas, “My wife made me watch Paras on TV. I was very happy with his performance after his audition, but I was also sceptical about how his chemistry with Kangana would be.” Kangana took a day to open up to him, but from then onwards, the two became good friends.
Talking about his leading lady, the director says, “Kangna is like water. You add any colour to her and she will come out in different shades. Despite not being a professionally trained dancer, when choreographers Ganesh Acharya and Meera gave her some really difficult steps, she effortlessly followed them.”

Kangna Ranaut to play nautch girl in Rajjo
0Sneha Mahadevan (BOMBAY TIMES; December 8, 2012)
Actress Kangana Ranaut has been roped in for author and historian Vishwas Patil’s directorial venture, Rajjo, where she plays a nautch girl. The director, who has been honoured with the Sahitya Akademi National Award, Priyadarshini National Award and Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad Award, will portray the changing scenario of Mumbai in his film.
Patil, who was looking for a good performer with a regal appeal, says, “There is no doubt that Kangana is a talent to reckon with. However, what appealed to me more was that she has a strong Indianness to her that hasn’t been explored enough. The film looks into the issue of the mujra houses that are dying a slow death.”
On playing a character different from what she has done till date, Kangana says, “When I heard the script, I immediately knew that I wanted to be part of it. People will identify with Rajjo’s character and empathise with her struggle.” The film also stars Mahesh Manjrekar in the role of a eunuch and Prakash Raj as a politician.
Rajjo, produced by Four Pillars Entertainment, is scheduled for release in 2013.
Bollywood babes to get kickalicious in 2013
1Move aside heroes, the actresses are gearing up for some big-time action
Aakansha Naval-Shetye (DNA; December 3, 2012)
2013 is promising to be one action-packed year. While the big screen will have its share of testesterone-loaded action dhamaka, our Bollywood heroines too are gearing to kick butt. A look at the forthcoming films reveals that when it comes to action, they are ready to give tagdi takkar to their male counterparts at the box office. Leggy lasses Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandez will be seen in their action avatars in Race 2, while Bollywood hottie Priyanka Chopra will kick butt (literally) as a boxer in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biopic on Olympic medalist Mary Kom. After the action thriller Ek Tha Tiger, Katrina Kaif will be back doing more stunts in Dhoom 3 and also the Bolly remake of Knight and Day. Besides Krissh 3, where she will be seen in action, Kangna Ranaut is also undergoing intense training for her role in Revolver Rani. Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit too will be making action outings in Gulab Gang.
“Yes, action will be the flavour at the box office next year, as almost all A-listers are doing action-oriented films. But, what’s really exciting is that heroes apart, it is the heroines who are donning the action suits. It’s an encouraging sign for our industry that is thinking out-of-the-box when it comes to roles for women. Action is considered a male domain, so it’s good to see actresses ‘halla bol’ here,” agree trade analysts. “What’s More >
Kangna Ranaut bags Revolver Rani?
1Kangna Ranaut gets into gangsta mode for an upcoming revenge drama
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; November 8, 2012)
Kangna Ranaut is all set to get into gangster mode. The actress has been pencilled in for debutant Sai Kabir’s upcoming flick Revolver Rani that revolves around a female outlaw. The project is being produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia and Rahul Mittra — who earlier made Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster together.
Says a source, “Kangna was recently signed for the film. She will be seen as a gun-toting character in the revenge drama. The film, set in the hinterlands, will have her essay the title role. Considering that she has done the dark ‘ n’ dreary to comedy to chic roles, she feels this will showcase her in new light.” Like Dhulia’s Irrfan- starrer Paan Singh Tomar, this gangster flick will also be shot in Madhya Pradesh.
Interestingly this is the same project for which there was earlier buzz that Tabu was to essay the pivotal role. But it seems that they opted for Kangs instead.
The film’s writer-director Sai Kabir had penned the dialogues in the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Lamhaa and the screenplay for the Shahid Kapoor-Vidya Balan film Kismet Konnection. He was slated to make his debut as director with Chemistry, a film produced by Shreyas Talpade featuring the actor along with Tanishaa and Soha Ali Khan. The film though shot in Paris has yet to see light of day.
