Kajol was not invited to JTHJ premiere-Ajay Devgn
0The real reason behind Kajol’s no-show at the premiere of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ predates the film’s release
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; November 22, 2012)
After much ado about former Yash Chopra heroine Kajol’s no-show at the premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan, hot comes the gossip that the real reason behind her conspicuous absence rests elsewhere.
The real reason in fact finds its deep roots in the times when hubby Ajay Devgn’s Bol Bachchan was in the making. Kajol was extremely upset that Yash Raj Films had demanded Rs 5 lakh from Ajay as a charge to reuse a certain section of their famous Kajra Re song, especially since she had done numerous appearances and cameos in their films free of charge. Apparently, it all started there.
A source adds, “Initially Ajay agreed to pay the amount. However, YRF then hiked the sum to Rs 25 lakh for the 90-second sequence. Ajay was upset and so was Kajol. Ajay later consoled her saying it was all part of the business.”
The ensuing tussle between her home production and Jab tak hai Jaan worsened when Kajol was hard-pressed to take sides. To top it all, YRF apparently did not even extend an invite to the actress to attend the event, which was graced by several former Chopra heroines.
The couple was apparently in a huge dilemma over whether Kajol should agree to grace the gala, given the complicated turn of events.
Another source states, “It was clear that the battle lines were drawn. To Kajol’s surprise, YRF did not invite her at all. She was More >
Devgns, Bachchans head to Goa to celebrate
0Ajay Devgn takes his family for a holiday after wrapping up the release of his latest film
Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; November 17, 2012)
It’s work hard, party harder for Ajay Devgn. No wonder that close on the heels of the release of his much- talked about film Son Of Sardaar, Devgn has taken his wife Kajol, their kids Nysa and Yug and his parents to Goa for a holiday.
A source close to the family says, “Devgn is very thrilled that his film has managed to bring in large crowds in spite of a stiff opposition from Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which had 500 more theatres to boast of. It has managed to turn out as his biggest opening ever in many centres and he felt that he has achieved what he had set out for. Devgn had been very busy and tired with the film’s promotions and court cases.” The actor is said to be put up at a hotel in Goa and is apparently keeping a check on his film’s collections from there.
The source adds, “He plans to return by Monday.” There is buzz there could be a success party for the film soon thereafter.

Shah Rukh Khan’s new ‘K’ factor
0After Kajol, the romance king’s sizzling chemistry with Katrina Kaif has filmmakers lining up to sign them on
Aakansha Naval-Shetye (DNA; November 7, 2012)
There are still days to go before their first film together releases, but Shah Rukh Khan’s pairing with Katrina Kaif is already being compared to that of SRK’s hit jodi with Kajol. The industry and cine-goers — who so far have only got a glimpse of the crackling chemistry the two share in the promos of Jab Tak Hai Jaan — vouch that it is hot enough to fire a positive buzz about the jodi’s sizzle quotient. According to insiders, the two are already much in demand with as many as five producers in queue to sign them up as the romantic leads for their forthcoming films. “It is unusual for a pair to be such a rage even before their first release together. We know that there have been several offers since the first promos were out as many filmmakers are keen to cash in on their screen chemistry. It is hot even with distributors and exhibitors,” says a leading distributor, before adding with a flourish, “Yeh jodi toh hit hai! After Kajol, Katrina is definitely the new ‘K’ in SRK’s reel life.”
This verdict echoes with that of trade observers too. “So far it was SRK and Kajol, followed by Akshay and Katrina that were the most-talked about pairs, but now its Kat and SRK,” say trade analysts.
An insider confirms that the two have indeed been offered five to six films last month itself, of which they may even be contemplating More >
I don’t know how to react-Kajol
0Kajol, whose Yash Chopra film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ completed 17 years of a continuous run just a day before the legend’s demise
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; October 23, 2012)
Yash Chopra’s production Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), the directorial debut of his son Aditya, completed 17 years of a continuous run at the Maratha Mandir theatre on Saturday just a day prior to Chopra’s passing away on Sunday.
DDLJ, which released on October 20, 1995, was Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan’s career high. Playing Simran and Raj, they became Bollywood’s most loved on-screen couple and went on do several other films together. DDLJ also changed the entire scenario for romantic movies. For Kajol obviously there are many memories attached to Chopra and the film. She says, “I am truly shocked. I don’t know how to react or what to say. He was a true veteran and an era is over with his passing. He will be missed.”
Yash Chopra had organised an event in February 2011, when the film completed 800 weeks of running after theatre owner Manoj Desai had stated that he had no plans to discontinue the screening. In early 2011, a theatre strike threatened the film’s uninterrupted showing. Chopra had contacted theatre owners to try and ensure that the film’s run would be unaffected. He wanted DDLJ to go for over 1,000 weeks.
Yash Chopra takes his final journey

Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 23, 2012)
Following the demise of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra on Sunday evening, a pall of gloom descended upon the entire film industry. The iconic director, who had just turned 80 on September 27, and was eagerly awaiting the release of his last directorial Jab Tak Hai Jaan, died, literally speaking, with his boots on; something he had always wanted during his lifetime.
At around 9pm on Sunday, the late movie mogul was ferried in an ambulance from Lilavati Hospital to Studio No 3 of Yash Raj Studios. Incidentally, this was the same place where he had announced his retirement last month while revisiting his film journey with Shah Rukh Khan.
Immediate family and friends of the late Yash Chopra, which included Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan stayed by his side throughout the night of Sunday. In fact, Shah Rukh, who had been one of the first ones to reach Lilavati Hospital after hearing news of his passing away, did not leave the late Chopra’s side till around 5’o’clock on Monday morning. Amitabh Bachchan too was there for the longest time.
Between 9am and 12pm yesterday, the filmmaker’s friends and almost the whole film fraternity dropped by at the studio to pay their last respects.
Among those who came were Rekha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mukesh Bhatt, Pankaj Kapoor with his wife and son Shahid, Sohail Khan and wife, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Rampal and wife, Katrina Kaif, Deepika More >
Bengali women are sweetly dominating-Kajol
0Kajol speaks about her Bengali connection on Saptami
Priya Gupta (BOMBAY TIMES; October 21, 2012)
What are your childhood memories associated with Durga puja? As kids, it was a time when there was no routine, we used to stay up till late night or wake up early morning and go for anjali, nobody paid attention to us. We ate as much bhajas as we could. Since I was two years old, I used to serve the bhog though at that time we were only given bhajas to serve and not the dal as it could drop on us. My grandmother started this Durga puja in Juhu about 60 years back and she insisted that everyone come down for it so it was a time when my entire family came together, including distant relatives from Kolkata. After my grandmother, my dad continued to organize it with all his brothers. It was a tradition to have a Bengali play every night. It was like a wedding taking place every year where everybody used to just talk and talk and fights would break out and then they would make up and each one would have a view on how it could be organised better.
Is this a time when you miss your father more? He was a part of my identity and I could not see my life without him. I miss him every day of my life. After I lost him, I felt there was a big hole inside me and I continue to always feel unbalanced. I miss him more during puja. First year I did not attend the puja as I could not go to the place that was so vividly reminding me of him.

Sidharth Malhotra’s on a spin
0Priya Sugathan (DNA; October 14, 2012)
Sidharth Malhotra DNA Research N Archives“No, I am not related to (designer) Manish Malhotra or (filmmaker) Punit Malhotra,” clarifies easy-on-the-eye Sidharth Malhotra, whose surname often leads people to assume that he’s from Bollywood. But his co-star, Varun Dhawan in the upcoming Student of the Year, is however convinced that Sid could just turn out to be the proverbial ‘outsider’ to make it big in filmdom.
Ask Sidharth, if he feels he’s going to be eclipsed by his co-stars, who have strong filmi backgrounds —Varun is filmmaker David Dhawan’s son, while Alia is Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter — and he smiles. “It is natural for people to be more interested in them as they come with a certain history. But in the final reckoning, it’s what you put out there on the big screen that’s going to be noticed,” says the newbie, who started off as a model in Delhi. He later auditioned for a film that Anubhav Sinha planned to make with newcomers. “I just auditioned for a lark, acting was nowhere on the horizon,” recalls Sidharth. “The film got shelved when Anubhav got an offer to work with Shah Rukh Khan. By then, I’d been bitten by the acting bug,” he adds.
Sidharth is amused at the coincidence of the events that unfolded later for him. “I landed in Mumbai, looking for work and ended up being the assistant director on Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan (MNIK). Come to think of it, Anubhav and me coincidentally ended up working with SRK,” he More >
Ajay Devgn gets Kajol on board Makkhi
0Hiren Kotwani (BOMBAY TIMES; October 5, 2012)
Considering the success of Eega, the Telugu film about the revenge of a housefly with super powers, it’s no wonder that its Hindi version, Makkhi, is a much anticipated one at the moment. In fact, adding to the movie’s build up is Ajay Devgn, who will unveil it, along with director SS Rajamouli at an event this evening in Mumbai.
In fact, Ajay is so impressed with the film and Rajamouli’s direction that he has lent his voice to the film, which releases on October 12. Interestingly, the superfly in the film, too seems inspired by the actor, as it can be seen giving its take on Ajay’s balancing act on two horses from his upcoming movie Son Of Sardaar. And if that’s not all, the super fly will also be mouthing the actor’s trademark dialogue from Singham, “Aata maajhi satakli aahe.”
Apparently, after watching it, Ajay couldn’t stop raving about the film to Kajol and their children, and he has even convinced Kajol to lend her voice for the movie.
Having made eight Telugu films, Rajamouli has a 100% box office track record, with one super hit and seven blockbusters! Makkhi is his first Hindi outing and what better way for him to arrive than to collaborate with Reliance Entertainment — who will be releasing the movie — and Ajay Devgn, whose Diwali release Son Of Sardaar is the official remake of Maryada Ramanna, directed by Rajamouli himself.

Television again for Ajay Devgn?
0After three years, the actor will return to the small screen. This time as the narrator of a series
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 24, 2012)
In 2008, Ajay Devgn along with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja had ventured into television as a judge on a family reality show Rock-N-Roll Family. And now, the actor is returning to the small screen in a new avatar. This time Devgn will play the narrator for a show tentatively titled Ram Leela.
A source from the channel told Mirror, “Devgn will be like a sutradhaar for the show. Every eight or nine minutes, he will narrate and connect the storyline.”
Incidentally, the show will go on air around the same time in November when his film Son Of Sardaar hits the theatres. “This works for Devgn. Actors these days promote their films on every reality television series and at times even other shows. And Devgn will have his own show,” said the source.
Earlier, it was reported that Devgn would replace Akshay Kumar as the host of the Indian version of Fear Factor, Khatron Ke Khiladi season 5. Primarily since the host for the last four seasons, Akshay Kumar would be busy with the birth of his second child. However, Devgn seems to have decided to begin his second TV stint with Ram Leela instead.
I don’t understand chemistry-Shah Rukh Khan
0Shreya Badola (DNA; August 9, 2012)
Shah Rukh KhanWhile the myriad fans of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan cannot help but discuss his onscreen chemistry with his heroines, the actor himself claims to be clueless of what that means. “I think chemistry is too deep a word…only media people use it,” said SRK.
“Kajol and I have had this long debate on ‘what is chemistry’…I’m sure you wouldn’t know what is the chemical name for CH3COOH, but you still love to say ‘chemistry’,” he added.
Khan will be next seen romancing actor Katrina Kaif. On being prodded on what he thinks about the Katrina-Salman chemistry in their soon-to-be-released film, SRK praised the two actors and the movie trailer. “It (trailer) is very nice…they have done many films together,” he said.
However, looks like King Khan wasn’t too pleased with the word ‘chemistry’ being repeated or perhaps he couldn’t manage to express more for his favourite frenemy Salman! “So I don’t know about the chemistry but it looks like a wonderful pair. I wish them all the luck,” he said.
Khan also congratulated Maria Sharapova for her silver medal at Olympics, as he admitted to being a big fan of the sportstar, who’s also also the face of the same watch brand he endorses. “A big congrats to Maria! Even if she hadn’t won a medal, I would still love her,” said Khan, regretting that he missed the chance to meet tennis star. “My biggest desire was to meet her, and I missed my chance in Dubai. So she signed a big poster More >
