Amrita Puri dumbstruck as Hrithik Roshan compliments her

Urmimala Banerjee (MID-DAY; March 14, 2013)

Looks like Amrita Puri has received the greatest compliment of her life. The actress can’t contain her excitement at having been applauded about her latest film Kai Po Che by none other than Hrithik Roshan.

Says Amrita, “I am so touched by all the nice things people have said about the film. My family loved it too. When Hrithik told me that he was humbled by the performances given by my co- actors and me, I was dumbstruck. I just stood there staring at him for five minutes before I realised that I came across as rude. Then, I thanked him, delirious with happiness.”

A Hrithik fan, she says that she always felt that the actor was the coolest star ever. “As a school girl, I totally drooled over him in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and now it just seems so magical,” signs off Amrita.

The passion’s unchanged-Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has completed more than four decades in the industry, but it’s his turn as a director 25 years ago that has been more defining for him. What makes it all the more special to Roshan is that he is directing son actor Hrithik in the superhit franchise Krrish 3. In an exclusive interview with DNA, he talks about his journey so far, working with beta and the changing movie dynamics…

How would you describe your 25 years as a director in the industry? Rewarding in more ways than one (smiles). But my biggest achievement has been to be able to work at my own pace and run my own race. All my films have explored different subjects and I have taken the risks.

How has your approach to films changed in all these years? Nothing’s changed (smiles). I am still as nervous on the first day of my shoots as I was on the sets of my directorial debut Khudgarz in 1987. I still have that honesty and sincerity. The passion, the hunger and love for films is intact.

So how important is success to you? It gives you the confidence to take more risks and to continue making films on your own terms. But it also brings with it a lot of responsibilities. So, I want to give something new to my audience and over the years have done so without resorting to vulgar jokes or any such formula.

You have not worked with any other actor since Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai with Hrithik… I am a proud dad, but I am also a filmmaker. When More >

Exploring the double role phenomenon of Bollywood

Bollywood is all set to revisit the double role formula

Seema Sinha (BOMBAY TIMES; June 11, 2012)

In last week’s release Rowdy Rathore, apart from the desi action or unabashed entertainment, one thing that stood out was the double role of the leading hero. In the past decade, not many filmmakers have attempted to exploit the dual character, but now the double role formula, which was considered to be a favourite among many filmmakers at some point of time, looks set to return.

HIT FORMULA? Be it the identical twins caught in extreme dramatic situations of lost and found, or a lookalike becoming the cause of confusion, the comedy of clones is often a sure shot formula to success. Trace the history of Bollywood and you will find that almost every top actor has played a double role in at least one film in his or her career, and these films have been huge grossers at the box office – Dilip Kumar (Ram Aur Shyam), Dev Anand (Hum Dono), Sanjeev Kumar (Angoor), Rajesh Khanna (Aradhana), Amitabh Bachchan (Don, Satte Pe Satta), Shatrughan Sinha (Kalicharan), Hema Malini (Seeta Aur Geeta), Sridevi (Chaalbaaz), Salman Khan (Judwaa), Shah Rukh Khan (Duplicate, Om Shanti Om), Govinda (Aankhen), Sunil Shetty (Gopi Kishan), Anil Kapoor (Kishen Kanhaiya).

REVISITING DOUBLE ROLE In the recent past, we have seen Shahid Kapoor playing a double role in Kaminey and Saif Ali Khan in Love Aaj Kal. According to film director David Dhawan, who has given a string of hits with male leads in a More >

That’s what choreographer Farah Khan asked her husband Shirish Kunder after getting an offer to play the female lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Shirin Farhad to be directed by his sister Bela

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 07, 2011)

Ace choreographer -filmmaker Farah Khan is all set to make her Bollywood debut as a lead actor. The woman who created Munni and Sheila has been signed on as the leading lady in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Shirin Farhad to be directed by his sister Bela.

A visibly glowing Khan met us at her Seven Bungalows flat and kickstarted a rather interesting and revealing tete-a-tete, saying, “Shoot your questions. My triplets just went to sleep, they sleep in unison.”

How did it feel when you were asked to play the female lead in Bhansali’s Shirin Farhad?

Thinking he was pulling my leg, I said, ‘You’re mad’.

Understandable, since the two of you have often taken digs at each other…

(Laughs) Yeah, we have trashed each other in the past. We have actually shared a very off-on relationship. We started our careers around the same time (pauses and stares at the ceiling).

Go on…

But we have been more than fine with each other for the past couple of years. We started bonding after my babies were born. He sent me a very sweet SMS and I sent biryani on his birthday. Since then we have been very cordial.

Did you say ‘yes’ to Bhansali instantly?

Now Amisha Patel turns producer?

That seems to be the mantra for most Bollywood ladies, Amisha Patel being the latest in the list. She is holding a bash to announce the same this weekend

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 20, 2011) Amisha Patel turns producer after having tried her luck as an actress

If you can’t make it big in films, or find a man to settle down with, turn to production. That has been the mantra for most Bollywood ladies lately.

Sushmita Sen was the first to venture this way. Although her dream production, a film on Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai couldn’t take off from the planning stage, she paved the way for others.

The latest addition to the list, however, is the Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai girl Amisha Patel.

The actress has planned a big bash over the weekend for her friends and relatives wherein she will announce the launch of her production house, Amisha Patel Productions.

She, of course will not be doing this alone. Her friend Kunal who has been keeping her company at many social events including Shilpa Shetty’s bash, Imran Khan’s wedding reception and the New Year celebrations in Dubai, will be the partner.

According to the industry buss, the much-married businessman was all set t produce a film with Amisha in the lead. However, now, they have decided to open their own production house instead.

A source very close to Amisha told Mumbai Mirror, “Kunal’s wife Shaalu is also very close to Amisha. The three of them often hangout together.”

The actor thought he had run over a beggar, only to realise it was all fake

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2011)

Yesterday evening, Hrithik Roshan drove out of his building Palazzio and headed to Yash Chopra’s Juhu Bungalow. Little did he know, what a fiasco awaited him later on in the evening.

It all started when Hrithik came out of Chopra’s house in his car. Three beggars came knocking at the car window.

Hrithik’s driver, who has been with the star since his first film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, and has never erred so far, slowed the car down.

But one of the beggars (circled in red, Pic 1) was up to some real mischief.

The beggar in question threw himself before the car and started screaming that he had been hurt.

He held his leg and turned sides yelling, ‘Maar dala, maar dala’. (See, Pic 2)

A few miscreants joined the scene and started pulling the beggar back to his feet, without succeeding. (See, Pic 3) “The idea was to convince Hrithik that the beggar had been badly injured,” informed a source.

Says an eyewitness, “Hrithik and his driver knew that they were not wrong. But then they got really scared. What if the beggar had been really hurt?”

SRK celebrates Hrithik’s 11th Bollywood anniversary

SRK got together a cozy bash to celebrate Duggu’s 11th anniversary in Bollywood (and his maiden home production turkey)

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 17, 2011)

Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan might well be termed as the new Jai-Veeru in town.

Both the superstars have been bonding big time these days, attending each other’s parties and spending quality time with one another.

At the recently concluded award ceremony in Singapore, SRK made Hrithik miss his flight and party with him as he remembered that on Jan 14, exactly 11 years ago, Hrithik has made his debut with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Such love.

Our sources add, “Hrithik wanted to leave for India and his flight was booked. However SRK called him and told him that it was on January 14 that he made his debut in Bollywood. Since he had completed 11 years in Bollywood, it was time to party.

SRK told him that he too was leaving the next day and asked him to come along with him in a chartered flight. So, SRK, Hrithik, along with Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal and Mehr, and Priyanka Chopra partied hard with Hrithik in his room.

Incidentally, SRK also joked that exactly one week after Kaho Naa released SRK’s first home production Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani also released and bombed.

So, he was celebrating that as well. SRK himself called everyone and within no time Hrithik’s room in the hotel turned out to be the place where everyone was present. The next day Hrithik, along with wife Suzzane, More >

Hrithik makes cameo in Main Krishna Hoon

0

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, October 26, 2010 – 17:04 IST

It’s called “The jungle”, “dog-eat-dog world”, “rat race” and what not. The truth is Bollywood is all this and yet it is also a world where goodwill, hard-work and sincerity is something that has its value. Shows in the way Hrithik Roshan, who has quite a bit of clout in the industry, has gone out of his way for his spot boy Nandan Mahato.

Nandan who has produced few Bhojpuri films is making his first Hindi film Main Krishna Hoon, a 3-D animation-cum-live action film. And none other than Hrithik has given him the green signal. Nandan started out in the industry as Juhi Chawla’s spot boy, but after she got married, Nandan joined Hrithik’s staff and was with him for almost 10 years starting from Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.

Therefore when he wanted to make a Hindi film, he approached Roshan Jr. who was more than encouraging. Hrithik even flew down to Hyderabad to shoot for the film and didn’t even think of charging Mahato for it. Not only Hrithik but even Juhi has shot for the film. Katrina Kaif’s hairdresser Pomilla, who is the co-producer of the film, has even managed to get Katrina to do an appearance.

So much for the starry tantrums that we keep hearing about Bollywood stars, Katrina, Juhi and Hrithik have decided to be part of this film only because of the sincerity and goodwill that Nandan and Pomilla have earned over the years.

Hrithik gets measured for his Madame Tussauds wax statue

0

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, October 4, 2010 – 12:40 IST

Madame Tussauds has been a name to reckon with when it comes to preserving life like structures of famous personalities immortalized in wax. The latest addition to the museum in London following Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan and SRK is none other than the Greek god of Bollywood Hrithik Roshan.

Hrithik was recently measured up for his new wax figure by the sculpting team in Mumbai and London. They captured a catalogue of reference photographs and hundreds of precise measurements for the figure, which will be unveiled in London in January 2011.

To ensure total authenticity, Hrithik will be closely involved in the creation process, collaborating with the team to agree the pose and even donating items of clothing for his figure to wear.

Commenting on the creation of his figure, the star of hit films including Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Dhoom, Krrish and Jodhaa Akbar, said: “I don’t really have the words to articulate what it feels like. Being bestowed this honour is overwhelming.” Hrithik, who remembers visiting Madame Tussauds as a child but never imagined he would stand alongside his heroes there, added that his inclusion “re-affirms my belief that nothing is impossible”.

The figure will be created at Madame Tussauds studios in London over the next four months at a cost of £150,000. The first step is to craft a perfect clay sculpture from which the moulds are More >

GET READY FOR THE ‘BIG 3’! The next 6 Fridays will see the release of 3 biggies every alternative week. So while Kites will release tomorrow, Raajneeti will release on June 4 and Raavan on June 18. The hype surrounding these 3 films is so huge that there would be hardly any release between the release of these 3 films (i.e. on May 28 and June 11).

Talking about Kites, the film is hugely awaited ever since it’s filming commenced way back in 2008. The hype increased when news came out that Hrithik is having an affair with Barbara and that Sussanne might divorce him. It seemed like a publicity stunt but it paid off so well! The name of the film was on everyone’s lips and Barbara instantly became a household name!

The film has all factors going in its favour. This is Hrithik’s first film after Jodhaa Akbar which came way back in 2008. The Hrithik-Barbara jodi is piping hot. Promos are excellent and songs have been well received too. The film is produced by Rakesh Roshan. Whenever the son and dad have joined hands, they have created history (Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish). Hence everyone’s hoping that Kites would surely be rocking! Moreover, the film is directed by Anurag Basu who has won hearts with Gangster and Life In A Metro. Hrithik, Rakesh, Anurag, Barbara…with so many big names, the expectations are bound to be skyhigh!

The Roshans and the distributors Reliance Big Pictures have ensured that the film makes its presence felt like no other More >
