Movie Review: ROBOT by TARAN ADARSH
0By Taran Adarsh, October 1, 2010 – 10:12 IST
Two things… One, it’s difficult to conceptualize and execute a film like ROBOT. Two, when Rajnikant’s name comes in the credits, one cannot hear anything for the next two minutes. His name is greeted with a thunderous applause, whistles yells and cheers. Such is the charisma of this superstar. Rajnikant is the Boss. The real Badshaah.
ROBOT, directed by Shankar, is a Rajnikant Express that transports you to a world you can’t envision. Rajnikant’s feats are legendary by now. In ROBOT, he goes a step further. The Robot in ROBOT not only follows orders of his creator, but also cooks, fights, romances and wonder of wonders, has a lengthy conversation with a mosquito and scan loads of books/magazines and an entire telephone directory in a second. Yes, you read it right!
BY BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COMThat’s not all, this Robot is Superman + Spiderman + Terminator + Godzilla, all rolled into one. There’s more to this Robot. It can replicate itself, wage a vicious battle, turn into an Anaconda or a monster ball and wipe off an entire army. Whew! Known for larger than life canvas, ROBOT is Shankar’s most expensive and if I may say so, his most imaginative film thus far. And who better than Rajnikant for the pivotal role!
Final word? A Rajnikant film is an event and this combo’s [Shankar - Rajnikant] new outing ROBOT is sure to strike like Tsunami. Let me make it short-n-sweet. If you miss ROBOT, it’s YOUR loss!

Guess who’s taking takkar with Salman Khan at the box office this Eid? Not Karan Johar, the filmmaker prudently brought forward the release of his We Are Family to September 3, to clear the deck for Salman’s Dabanng on the 10th; but it’s Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who’s bilingual The Robot opposite Rajinikanth is believed to be slated for a simultaneous release.
The promos of Dabanng have created a kind of trade flurry. Bollywood’s enfant terrible in his Robin Hood act has captured the imagination of the tapori class and the tradewallahs. It is the film promo that has the highest number of hits on an internet site, says a television journalist.
As for the Rajinikanth-Aishwarya starrer in Hindi and Endhiran in Tamil, a trade source says, “ So far they have only said The Robot is coming in September. Whether it will come on Eid will be announced shortly. However, there is scope for both films. Dabanng will prove to be very strong in the Hindi belt and Rajnikanth, who is a demi God in Tamil Nadu, has the biggest patronage ever in the South.’’ Bollywood trade consultant Amod Mehra says, “The recovery pattern for a Rajinikanth film is very unusual. Besides the regular markets for South films, Rajinikanth also has a huge fan base in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, UK and Australia.’’

Movie Review: ANGELS AND DEMONS by FENIL SETA
0Dan Brown-the name is enough to arouse curiosity! While the film adaptation of Brown’s The Da Vinci Code (TDVC) was above average, Angels And Demons succeeds in being better than the former. More about it later!
The story of the movie: Under the leadership of Father Silvano (Carmen Argenziano), scientists at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva succeed in getting hold of three vials of antimatter. But soon, someone breaks into Silvano’s lab, kills him and runs away with one vial of antimatter. Dr Vittoria (Ayelet Zurer) is the first one to find Silvano’s dead body. On the other hand, the Vatican is mourning the death of the Pope. It starts preparing for the Conclave of the Cardinals, which will decide who the next Pope will be. Until then, the Carmerlengo Patrick (Ewan McGregor) assumes the day-to-day control of the Vatican. But all hell breaks loose when the Illuminati, a 400-year-old underground rival society, becomes active and kidnaps the preferratti (i.e. the four most likely candidates to become the next Pope). The Illuminati even threatens to kill the candidates every hour starting at 8pm and then destroy the Vatican at midnight. It soon becomes clear that it was this kidnapper who stole the antimatter and he’s all set to explode the Vatican at 12 using it. The Vatican summons Dr Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and Dr Vittoria to help them find and rescue the preferratti, and search for the antimatter before midnight. An expert More >
