Rohit Dhawan’s debut film will see Chitrangada Singh romancing Akshay Kumar By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 12, 2010)

Rohit Dhawan has managed a casting coup of sorts — he has paired critically-acclaimed actress Chitrangada Singh opposite Akshay Kumar in his debut venture, tentatively titled Desi Boys.

For Chitrangada, who is best known for her role in Sudhir Mishra’s niche film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, this will be her first Bollywood masala movie. The film also has John Abraham in a major role.

Chitrangada had a meeting with Rohit Dhawan on Monday afternoon at the Andheri office of Eros.

A source said, “Rohit Dhawan has finally managed to get his cast in place after Akshay Kumar and John Abraham agreed to be a part of his debut film. The film is scheduled to go on the floors in November. Eros will be producing the film. However Rohit was searching for a heroine till someone suggested Chitrangada’s name.

Rohit was initially unsure because he did not know if she was open to the idea of working in a mainstream film, but it all fell into place. Even Chitraganda is very excited. The pairing of Akshay and Chitrangada will be something to look forward to for an audience which has seen all possible permutations and combinations of the present leading ladies.”

While Chitrangada first refused to comment about the film, she did admit that she visited the Eros office for ‘routine’ reasons. On the other More >

Karan Johar got Imran to do a sexy shoot for his forthcoming film with Sonam Kapoor

SHARIN WADER BUTANI Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; April 28, 2010)

“Karan wanted to sell me in this cool, sexy look. He wanted me to show my body,” accused Imran Khan, who worked out for two months before he could shed his shirt and pull his pants a wee bit down for this photoshoot for Dharma Productions’ I Hate Luv Stories. “It’s to show the film’s attitude,” he explained, “My butt’s showing, but I think John Abraham beats me at that.”

For the film, Imran gained a lot of weight. “I did functional training, strength training, rope climbing and played a lot of basketball. I altered my diet, too, ate only fish, steamed veggies, fruits and nuts and no rice at all. And two days before I shot this picture, I stopped the intake of salt completely. I even stopped drinking water,” said Imran who ‘quenched’ his thirst by rinsing his mouth. Working out, he hates — but Imran’s hard work has paid off. He’s never looked better. Karan Johar definitely knows how to make his actors look good.

“There was a struggle between Manish Malhotra and director Punit, who is also his nephew. While Manish wanted this allperfect look for me, Punit wanted a grungy one. So finally I ended up looking quite stylised with coloured shoe laces, which were untied, ripped jeans, half-buttoned shirts…” said Imran quite impressed with the outcome. Shooting for Karan wasn’t just More >

John’s double whammy

The athletic actor, who has been training intensively for a hardcore action film, will kick things off with two back-to-back projects By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 14, 2010)

// // // It’s still a mystery what prompted John Abraham and director Nishikant Kamat to put their plans of doing an action film for UTV on hold for a bit and go ahead with one for Vipul Shah instead.

But the change seems to have triggered some confusion about the difference in the stunts John would perform in Vipul Shah’s adaptation of Tamil hit Kaakha Kaakha, and the action meant to be part of the UTV film.

John has all along been training for the UTV film with Nishikant, but now all that hard work might benefit the Vipul Shah-produced film instead, which is slated to start in May.

Says Nishikant, “During the preparation for the film with UTV, John and I came into contact with several international stunt co-ordinators and technicians. Some of the expertise we imbibed for the UTV film would be used in the Vipul Shah film.”

But Nishikant denies that Ghajini or Wanted would be used as reference points for the action stunts in his film. “We are looking at a different, more realistic action in our version of Kaakha Kaakha. I have my roots in realistic cinema and now when I’m ready to enter another kind of more commercial cinema, I can’t ignore my inherent sensibilities.

So what you’ll see John doing is larger-than-life action, but it will still be within More >

The actor had a nasty accident while attempting a high risk stunt for his forthcoming film By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 12, 2010)

A handful of actors such as Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham seldom use a body double while doing stunts.

The latest entrant in this league of adrenaline junkies is model-turned-actor Milind Soman, who is doing some tricky jumps in his forthcoming film 27-13.20 Nakshatra. However Milind, who is playing a cop in the film, met with a freak accident while performing a risky stunt.

The incident in question happened in Bangkok last week. Says an eyewitness, “Milind had to jump onto a hovercraft. He mistimed his jump and banged into a crane nearby, injuring his left thigh. A doctor was called on the sets and the shooting had to be cancelled for the day.”

Says a friend of the actor, “He is feeling better now. Milind later completed the remainder of the scene.” While Milind himself was unavailable for comment, his girlfriend, actress Shahana Goswami, confirmed the incident.

UTV shelves Hook Ya Crook, now John Abraham and David Dhawan decide to finish the film themselves

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 10, 2010)

// // // With John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza in the lead, the David Dhawan directed Hook Ya Crook seemed to have everything going for it when it was launched some time back, including a rock solid producer like UTV.

But there’s news that the film — now 90 per cent complete — has apparently been shelved. UTV, which has already pumped several crores into the project, now feels that the film just isn’t working.

A source said, “Hook Ya Crook was a film that even UTV was banking on, but after they saw some portions of the film, they were very unhappy with the product. There had certain creative differences with director David Dhawan, following which the film has now been shelved. It’s been around six months since the shooting of the film was stopped and the project is now in the cold storage. It was a humungous decision for UTV, considering that they have already invested Rs 20 crore in the film.”

While rumours about the film getting stuck had been doing the rounds for some time, everyone connected with the project insists that the only delay is because of the non availability of dates from Indian cricketer stars.

Said Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV,”We are waiting for the dates of the cricketers as we have to shoot the climax with them. Once we get the dates and shoot, we will announce the More >

Jism’s sequel in 3-D

Pooja Bhatt plans a 3-D sequel to Jism, will be ‘bolder’ in content than the original By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 07, 2010)

It has been seven years since real life couple John Abraham and Bipasha Basu sizzled in Jism, but producer-director Pooja Bhatt is as enthusiastic about the film’s sequel as she was about the first part.

And it’s not only because of the explicit lovemaking scenes but also because Pooja will release Jism 2 in 3D format.

It was Pooja’s father Mahesh Bhatt who came up with the idea of having a 3D version of the film. Mahesh says, “When Hollywood filmmakers are toying with the idea of making adults film in 3D, why not we? Frankly, I struck upon the idea when I was watching the recent 3D film Avatar, especially the love scenes.”

Pooja is also very kicked about shooting Jism 2 in 3D. Incidentally, it is the first adult Bollywood film to be shot in 3D. Pooja says, “We need to get bigger and bolder. I think my dad has suggested a great idea. The film is his baby. He is writing the script and the screenplay at a feverish pace.”

Elaborating on the plot of the film, Mahesh says, “Jism 2 will deal with the subject of betrayal and suspense. The heroine will be shown as a very modern girl with a dark, tainted past.”

It is not yet clear about who will star in Jism 2. “We need a talented girl with a great body to pull off Jism 2. We need two male actors too. The search is on. The film’s cast will be a More >

Someone is maligning me-Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu fails to understand where all the negative stories about her are coming from

MEENA IYER Times News Network (April 4, 2010)

The Bengali bombshell Bipasha Basu has never looked or felt in better physical shape than she is now. For her it’s all about loving her body. Her nine-year romance with Bollywood and equally-long relationship with John Abraham is in full bloom. Post her fitness videos, her film career has picked up steam. She has Priyadarshan’s Aakrosh (earlier titled Garam Hawa), a film meant to give her ‘artistic side’ a boost. Then there is Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maro Dum, the slick action thriller that is currently being filmed in Goa. She’s studying a couple of more scripts and is streamlining her endorsements.

On Easter Sunday, she had a double lunch date at beau John’s home and in her best friend Deanne Panday’s house. Her personalised clothes line will be launched post the IPL grand finale. With such a flurry of activities, one would naturally assume that Bipasha’s mood is upbeat. Yet there is something niggling at her and being the forthright girl that she is, Bipasha comes straight to the point: “Recent media reports are constantly saying just one thing. They’re either talking about my divagiri or me being unprofessional. Nothing could be further from the truth than this.’’

Visibly upset with the Bipasha smear campaign, the actress says, “Listen I didn’t get to this position by being unprofessional. Nor do I More >
