The never married 60-year-old met particle physicist Atul Gurtu on Facebook and surprised family and herself with the decision to take the plunge

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 10, 2011)

Suhasini Mulay has broken age-related stereotypes by not only getting hitched at the age of 60 but also by using the medium of the new age the Internet to find her Mr Right.

The five time national awardee and popular screen mom told Mumbai Mirror she met 65-year-old physicist Atul Gurtu online.

Mulay, who has won acclaim for her roles Hu Tu Tu, Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan, said he was her Facebook friend and she met the particle physicist only after months of chatting online. “I was wary because I had met him online.

He was from a completely different profession. For him, the Atom is the biggest concern. My knowledge of these things is as good as yours.

I googled his name and found his resume interesting. His pictures on Facebook and on the TIFR site matched so I knew he was not a fake. We started chatting in July last year.

Suhasini says she fell in love with her husband when she read an article that he had written about the death of his first wife

While she had many FB friends, she was drawn to Gurtu because of the nature of their conversations. “I have won five national awards, one for Hu Tu Tu and four for documentaries I made.

All my documentaries were non-fictional. I have always been into reading serious material. We were able to chat about More >

Sabrina Lall’s apprehensions were put to rest after she saw No One Killed Jessica

Sabrina, the sister of slain model Jessica Lall recently saw the film No One Killed Jessica based on her sister’s murder. She has loved it. Speaking after a special screening held in Delhi, she said, “It was eerie and moving. sWe were all deeply relieved by how true to life the film has turned out.”

Sabrina Lall and Vidya Balan

The fear was that the film would sensationalise the subject, “When we agreed to let them make the movie, my family and I had been warned about the ‘Bollywood types’. We were told, ‘You don’t know what you are getting into. Why have you given the NOC? Now they’ll just do anything they like.’ But watching the film I feel vindicated. It will make Jessica kind of immortal.”

Precise detail

Admiring the director for his diligent recreation of the harrowing time after Jessica’s murder in 1999 when Sabrina and her family knocked on doors for justice Sabrina sighs, “Rajkumar Gupta has replicated almost every detail of the events of the proceedings after Jessica’s death.

Even the dialogues and conversations in the film are what I’ve gone through. All of us, my cousins etc, were like, ‘My god, how did the director know all this?’

The director had got the script approved by Jessica’s sis. Says Sabrina appreciatively, “Rajkumar had sat with me for almost a week. We discussed everything about the case.”

When Anushka spat on Akshay

Her penchant to get a scene right ended with an embarrassing moment for Akshay Kumar

TNN (MUMBAI MIRROR.COM; January 07, 2011) Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma

This girl is full of spunk! Yeah, you read that right. Anushka Sharma might be just three films old, but this gal is already spitting in the faces of the A-listers. Literally.

And it’s not her cool attitude, really, infact, it’s her penchant for getting the scene just right. Recently, while shooting for a scene for Patiala House, Anushka had to say the word ‘thoonk’, but she ended up literally spitting on co-star Akshay Kumar’s face.

Eeks! We’re sure that was Akki’s first reaction too, but the sporting khiladi, simply wiped off the incident with a smile and helped Anushka do a retake.

He’s always a sweetheart with his female co-stars, isn’t he? And even if he runs into some minor spats, we guess he just spits it away.

He, he. Or just say…’pattiyaa-la’ after the scene, what say Akki?

Chulbul Pandey to feature in animation series

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 07, 2011)

There is good news and bad news. The bad news is that the Dabangg sequel has been pushed to the beginning of 2012 because of Salman’s other commitments.

But the good news is that Salman’s character Chulbul Pandey will now feature as a part of an animation series on television as well as on mobile phones and on the internet.

Dabangg producer Arbaaz Khan says, “We’re looking seriously into an animation version of the saga of Chulbul Pandey. I am meeting the officials from a company representing the animation project this week. We’ll finalize the details then.”

Apparently, this idea had come up last year. But Arbaaz got busy. He says, “It has been a hectic year. Salman has two other films to start and complete before we can start Dabangg 2.

We’re in no hurry. We can’t just plunge into a sequel for the sake of it. I think a gap of a year-and-a-half between the first and second part of the franchise is fine.” Meanwhile, the toon Chulbul Pandey should keep us animated.

Saif-Kareena came unannounced at Pataudi’s house on his birthday

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 07, 2011)

On Wednesday, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan returned from Switzerland and decided to pay Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi a surprise visit; it was the Nawab’s birthday that day.

Saif and Bebo spent the entire day with him before flying back to Switzerland yesterday.

Pataudi and his wife Sharmila Tagore could not believe their eyes when Saif came in through the door, hand-in-hand with Kareena. They were overjoyed.

A source close to the couple said, “Saif decided to surprise his dad. He had not even told Kareena about their one-day visit to Delhi.

When Kareena learnt about it in Switzerland she was touched by Saif’s love and concern for his father.”

Added the source, “Kareena and Saif will stay in Switzerland for at least eight more days before they resume work in Mumbai. They are enjoying a fantastic Swiss holiday.”

In Switzerland, the couple was staying at a chalet-hut owned by the Gstaad Palace, which runs on solar energy. They will now shift to a wooden hut (the Walig Hut) built like a small 18th century chalet at a height of 5000 feet above sea level. They’re on top of the world in love.

Kareena’s look in Ra.one

Before flying off to Switzerland, Kareena lost a few kilos and toned up for a dance number in Anubhav Sinha’s RA.One.

A source close to her says, “Kareena had to stay away from all her favourites like pasta, pizzas and More >

Katrina-Priyanka fight continues?

The hugs and kisses were fake. Katz and Chops still cannot see eye to eye

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 07, 2011)

It’s a new year but some things just refuse to change. Last evening, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif crossed each others paths but completely snubbed each other without even saying a customary ‘Hi’.

The incident happened at an awards function at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra-Kurla Complex. Says an eyewitness, “Priyanka and Katrina were next to each other for quite some time backstage.

Their eyes met, but they did not give each other even a faint smile. They behaved like total strangers. There was ample opportunity for both the ladies to at least acknowledge each other’s presence but even that did not happen. Everyone around them noted this.”

History has it that Priyanka was upset when Katrina stepped into her shoes for Tarun Mansukhani’s Dostana 2.

And then Katrina walked out of Anurag Basu’s Barfi (earlier titled Silence) when Priyanka signed up for the second lead’s role. Katrina told a friend then, “Basu had told me that they would take a newcomer in the second role. But when he did not live up to his word, I didn’t feel the need to continue.”

And with time, the cracks widened. At the IPL awards in April last year, we heard that all of Priyanka’s and Katrina’s moves were choreographed perfectly to avoid any kind of fireworks. It was planned so the two ladies don’t even see each other.

From Om Puri…To Ishaan with love

Now that his separation from his first wife is imminent, Om Puri has drafted a farewell letter to his son Ishaan to placate his fears and insecurities

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 07, 2011)

Om Puri will be moving on in life this year. His dream home is being built with his first wife, Seema Kapoor, in her hometown, Jhalawar in Rajasthan. At 61, Om is all set to start life again from scratch.

The most sensitive area that needs to be tackled in his separation with his current wife Nandita is his son 11-year-old Ishaan. It was the fear of hurting his son at such a crucial time that has kept Om from making the break so far. But now, says Om, the time has come for him to think of his personal happiness…with Ishaan’s approval.

Om has been gradually preparing the child for his separation. But the reasons for the separation and Om’s need to start afresh with a woman who is not Ishaan’s mother are things too difficult for the child to understand. Om has therefore written a long heartfelt letter to his son which Ishaan will open at the right time.

Says Om, “I thought this was the best way to let Ishaan know that his father is not a bad person. That he is not a deserter. I have to explain to my son why I need to live away from him. I’ve put it all down in a letter that Ishaan will open after I leave.

I know he will not think unkindly of me once he reads what I have to say. I want him to know that although I’ll be staying away from him and More >

Salman Khan, with characteristic nonchalance, talks about mocking Katrina, his patch-up with John and that Guzaarish fiasco

Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 07, 2011)

Over the past few months, Salman has learnt the art of calmly dealing with the media but even then his impetuosity is intact. Taking time off while shooting for an ad, the actor talks to us.

• If you ever marry, how would your ceremony be? Grand or private?

I’ll wake up in the morning and realise that I am married.

• Your audience thought you made jibes at Katrina on your show.

No, we were having fun together. I have taken her case a lot of times. It is the humour that Katrina and I share.

• Dabangg was one of the biggest hits this year. Do you think you are the number one actor?

Nope.

• Who is the number one actor according to you?

I know I am not and I really don’t care.

• Everyone wants to know your relationship status with Katrina.

Have I ever said that I was dating her or that I broke up with her? Then why should I say now?

• For your fans to know…

They will get in touch with me (winks).

• Is it true that you are upset with Katrina because of her increasing proximity to Ranbir Kapoor?

No, not at all. Ranbir used to come home all the time.

• After Sangeeta Bijlani’s break up with her husband Azhradduin, she has been seen in your company. Anything brewing?

Sangeeta and I have always been very close. And Azhar and she haven’t broken up. They are very much together.

Salman’s ready for Dabangg 2

But Arbaaz and Abhinav need to get their act together for Dabangg 2

Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 7, 2011)

Want to know the asli reason(s) why Dabangg 2 is being delayed? No, it’s not because Salman Khan has no dates. That’s abominable, to think he won’t make time for the sequel of a home production that has been his biggest hit. The truth lies elsewhere. There is huge bidding going on for the film. Two major cinema corporations are locked in battle over who will bag the sequel. One has made an offer for Rs 110 crores, the second is willing to buy the first corporation out, apparently money is not a criteria.

A trade source adds insight into what’s happening, “Arbaaz Khan has been flooded with offers, the latest math is that he has been offered Rs 16 crores for the remake rights, this kind of money is enough to tempt a saint.” However, even as the bids get higher for the sequel that will have Salman, Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz, Malaika Arora Khan, Sonu Sood and Vinod Khanna, the buzz is that the film’s original director, Abhinav Kashyap — whose labour of love Dabangg was, is now acting pricey.

Bollywood sources say Abhinav has been signed by a leading film corporation for Rs 5 crores for his next film. He will be paid another Rs 5 crores during the making. So his market value stands at Rs 10 crores. Obviously, Abhinav now wants a price hike to direct Dabangg 2. And one for the reasons why the sequel is in a limbo is More >
