Qasab makes special appearance in Bhandarkar film

Pakistani terrorist Qasab doesn’t stand a dog’s chance when it comes to popularity. But he sure can score well when it comes to publicity.

Madhur Bhandarkar is cashing in on the nation’s pet hate in his next film Dil To Baccha Hai Ji by scripting in a dog called Qasab.

The stray dog gives the filmmaker, who is trying his hand at comedy with this movie, a chance to take some digs at the man who killed many on 26/11.

Sample this: Emraan Hashmi is sitting next to actress Tisca Chopra at a veterinary hospital. With him is a mongrel pup.

Girl asks boy about dog. “Iska naam Qasab hai. VT station se mila hai na. He is a little terror,” says our hero. It would be hard to pet this one.

Sanjay Chhel, writer of the film that also stars Ajay Devgn, Omi Vaidya, Shazahn Padamsee and Shruti Hassan, told Mumbai Mirror, “Indian fury against Qasab will find a vent with this.”

Bhandarkar confirmed that his fictional dog was called Qasab. “It isn’t really a political statement, just some tongue-in-cheek humour.” he said.

Expect the unexpected from Rakhi Sawant. Recently, she called up a TV channel saying that she wanted them to cast her in their forthcoming show Phulwa, which is inspired by Phoolan Devi’s life.

While the channel was shocked at Rakhi’s demand, they heard her out. Child Star Jannat Zubair Rahmani, who was seen last in the TV show Kashi, plays the child who grows up to be Phoolan Devi.

When contacted, Rakhi confirmed and said, “ I think I will be best suited to the role. Isme sharam ki kya baat hai?”

The best-kept secret is finally out. Speculation about who will play Jessica Lal in No One Killed Jessica is over.

A model called Myra will play the role in the film. The director Rajkumar Gupta met Myra Kam at a coffee shop and finalised her for the film.

Our source said, “It is something that the producers and the director did not want to reveal till the time the film was released in theatres. Considering Myra is a newcomer, no one predicted people would get to know about it.

In fact, no one in the production house has any details about her apart from the fact that Rajkumar met her somewhere and offered her the film. He thought she had the looks and the character to play Jessica. No one even knows what her full name is.”

When contacted, the official spokesperson of the film refused to comment on the story and said, “Wait for the film to be released.”

Guess what? Apparently, Sonam Kapoor is not the only girl who will romance Shahid Kapoor in Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial debut Mausam.

The film stars a newcomer Aditi Sharma who also plays Shahid’s love interest.  The girl whose identity was being kept under wraps, was last seen in Subhash Ghai’s Black And White.

A source said, “Aditi plays Shahid’s love interest in the first half of the film. She has two songs and quite a few romantic scenes with him. But eventually Shahid leaves her for Sonam. Aditi is currently in Chandigarh shooting for the film.”

Apparently, the role she plays is a little bitchy. The source continued, “The makers of the film wanted a girl with a vamp-like face. Pankaj Kapoor was very keen on casting Monikangana Dutta but she has signed a contract with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So it didn’t work out.”

The producer Sheetal Talwar didn’t deny that there is another girl besides Sonam but emphasised, “Aditi is playing a role in the film but it’s not a parallel lead or second lead.”

After turning down several projects in the past, Hema Malini’s younger daughter has chosen to make a debut with Vikramaditya Motwane’s next

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2011)

While her younger sibling is still struggling to make a niche for herself in Bollywood, Ahana Deol has finally decided to take the plunge. And she arrived at the decision after much deliberation.

Here’s a flashback. A few years ago, Dharmendra and Hema Malini’s younger daughter Ahana refused to play the lead role in one of Dev Anand’s films. And apart from Dev Anand, she turned down several others who wanted to cast her in their films.

Her friends and relatives always said that she was shy of Bollywood. And now she’s gone and proved them wrong.

Last year, she opened a store that stocks clothes designed by her, paintings and photographs by other artists and also edibles like jams, pastries and other gourmet products.

In 2007 there were reports that Ahana was contemplating directing a film but that never materialised. But the Bollywood bug was lurking somewhere and has bitten her now.

If all goes well, Ahana will star in Vikramaditya Motwane’s next. Rumour has it that Anurag Kashyap, who produced Motwane’s directorial debut Udaan, may produce this film as well. The modalities are now being worked out.

Maamujaan Aamir Khan requested his new friend Karan Johar to design wedding outfits for his favourite nephew

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2011) Karan Johar

Imran Khan is gearing up for his marriage with Avantika Malik on the 10th of this month and preparations are in full swing.

How could maamu jaan Aamir Khan not be a part of it? So, Aamir requested his newfound buddy Karan Johar to design Imran’s costumes for the wedding. And that’s not all. KJo will also design clothes for Aamir’s son Junaid.

Our source said, “Aamir wanted to carefully choose the designers for each of the different functions leading up to Imran’s wedding. So, Aamir decided to get his friend Karan Johar to design clothes for various people in his family.”

Apparently, Karan has designed traditional Indian clothes for the mehendi function to be held at Avantika Malik’s farmhouse at Karjat, which will be followed by a lavish party. And for the wedding day, Karan has designed a formal, western suit for Imran and his father.” When contacted, Aamir’s official spokesperson said, “Yes, we had trials of clothes yesterday at Aamir’s house. Karan is designing clothes for Aamir and Junaid.” KJo is surely a cut above the rest.

It’s be a franchisee action film. And by the way, he’s also planning to sue Yash Raj Films

Kunal M Shah and Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2011)

Sanjay Gupta is all set to return to direction after a gap of more than five years. Gupta had last made Zinda in 2006. Gupta, who is said to have a knack for action films, will be making a franchisee action film which is yet untitled.

Our source said, “It’s a massive 45 crore film. It will be a genre where Kaante meets Fast and the Furious. It is a franchise movie and there will be part one and part two as well.”

When contacted Gupta said, “Yes, I am back to direction after five years and I am itching to get back behind the camera. This is the right time for me to make an action film. I would be directing an action film after eight years.

Action is something that I do best and I am very excited as this film gives me a lot of scope to do that. I have waited long enough and the last two months have been spent in finalizing the screenplay of the film.”

That said, Sanjay Gupta is also very upset. He recently watched the trailer of a new TV serial called Khotte Sikkey and realised that Yash Raj Films had used a title that belonged to him.

Says the director, “I’m a fan of Feroz Khan saab and I had registered the title from one of my favourite films that stars him. How could a banner supposedly as responsible as Yash Raj do this? They haven’t informed me.”

Ramu traumatised by Suri’s murder

The director has aborted all plans of the third sequel for Rakht Charitra after the assassination of Maddilacheruvu Surayanaryan (Suri) in Hyderabad

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2011)

The sudden death of gangster-politician Maddilacheruvu Surayanaryan (Suri) on Monday in Hyderabad, allegedly at the hands of his right-hand man Bhanu has left Ram Gopal Varma totally shattered.

On learning of the assassination in Hyderabad, Varma was so utterly shocked that he completely withdrew.

“To see a man whom I had interacted with so closely being gunned down and being taken away wrapped in a cloth was bad enough. What’s worse is the fact that the man who allegedly killed Suri is someone I knew from close quarters,” says Ramu.

A still from Rakht Charitra 2

Shaken and barely able to speak, RGV adds, “I was more in touch with this guy who allegedly killed him. In fact, it was Bhanu who had called me up to arrange for a screening of Rakht Charitra for Suri.

He was Suri’s shadow. Every time I met Suri Bhanu was around attentive, respectful and alert. Bhanu answered all of Suri’s calls. I thought I knew Bhanu better than Suri. This betrayal has just shocked me. I can’t bring myself to trust anyone anymore.”

The filmmaker has become paranoid and suspicious now. “I made Rakht Charitra and moved on. Now this ghastly incident has dragged me back to the reality behind my film.

Deepika celebrates b’day at birth place with Sidhartha

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 5, 2011)

For her 25th birthday today, Deepika Padukone has gone back to her roots. Literally! The actress, BT learned, is celebrating the day at Copenhagen — the city she was born in. She was just 11 months old when the Padukones returned to Bangalore. And Deepika, enthused by nostalgia for the historic European city, has returned there to trace her roots.

A friend revealed, “Deepika wants to visit the hospital where she was born, the house where her parents stayed, and also bond with old family friends still living in the Danish city. Her parents have fond memories of Copenhagen and Deepika wants them to relive these with her. So, Papa Prakash Padukone will be her guide on this tour.”

Earlier, the Padukones celebrated Christmas in London. Sidhartha Mallya, who is supposedly seeing Deepika, joined them for New Year in the English capital. And he is likely to be with her in Copenhagen as well, today. Which is as romantic a birthday gift the young liquor baron could give the sexy actress as is possible. Deepika returns to Mumbai on Friday to attend the Imran Khan-Avantika Malik wedding over the weekend.
