With her inherent charm, Vidya Balan puts her fan Sandeep Yadav at ease as they talk about his love interest and her confident new avatar

Anand Holla (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 4, 2012)

Having braved a two-hour-long wait, 23-year-old Sandeep Yadav stiffens when a girl strolls in and tells us that Vidya Balan is in the building. The chirpy Vidya peeps in, flashes a smile and walks away talking into her phone. What intrigues Sandeep is a baby bump that Miss Silk is carrying off. “Don’t tell me she’s actually pregnant!” he wonders aloud with an air of alarm.

Soon, Vidya walks in and exchanges pleasantries with her fan, a software engineer, who says: “I don’t know why I’m shivering!” Tapping her fake baby bump, she asks him, “Do I look so scary?” Sandeep’s jitters disappear as she breaks into a hearty laugh. A relieved Sandeep asks, “Why the need to look pregnant?” How do you draw people’s attention in an age of information explosion, Vidya asks. “People immediately make an association with Kahaani,” she says.

Sandeep wants to know how she mastered a pregnant woman’s demeanour. Vidya explains, “I’ve seen how my pregnant cousins would walk or sit. We know their limitations with mobility. To get the posture and gait right, I met a gynaecologist and understood nuances like if she is six months pregnant, how much can she run, how would she walk and how much effort would it need for her to sit, etc.” Sandeep then asks Vidya the most obvious question — How was it to pile on the pounds More >

Taking time off from shooting his father’s film Mausam, Shahid Kapoor took off to Goa for a day just to spend New Year’s Eve with Priyanka Chopra and her family

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 03, 2011)

Though the engagement rumours may still need validation, congratulations are in order for one of the most handsome couples in the entertainment industry.

Yes, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are most definitely in love. Not only did Chops visit him in Chandigarh twice in December during his long schedule for Pankaj Kapoor’s Mausam, Shahid actually took a day off from the same shooting schedule to be with her in Goa, where she was holidaying with her parents, brother and best friend Tamanna.

A source from the Mausam crew says, “Priyanka has come here to Chandigarh twice. On December 30 Shahid flew to Goa to bring in the New Year with Priyanka and her family. On December 30 he actually missed his flight to Goa via Mumbai, so he caught another one from Chandigarh via Delhi to Goa.” Talk about going great lengths to be with your love!

Apparently Shahid spent New Year’s Eve with Priyanka and flew back to Chandigarh on January 1. The Mausam shooting had come to a standstill for these two days.

But the source is quick to stand up for Shahid in saying that he wasn’t the one responsible for a causing a delay in the shooting schedule, “We had decided to take a break for New Year’s anyway. We were all there. Shahid’s absence was glaring More >

It has an interesting ensemble cast and is made by a filmmaker who has shown depth and insight in her debut venture (Luck By Chance). In Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara she traverses through the landscapes of Spain.

All big actors worth their pancake have a release this year!

Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 1, 2011)

“This will be a landmark year for Bollywood,” says trade guru Taran Adarsh. “Be it the Khans, Kapoors, Khannas or Kumars, everyone has important films lined up. Not to forget Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham.” Taran also says that maverick makers and small movies will continue to plunder through 2011. “In fact, some of them will leave an indelible mark on the minds of cinegoers,” he predicts.

If the men are going to slug it out for a position of supremacy, there will also be a cat-fight because all the girls have multiple releases in the year. If Kareena has the Khans, Priyanka has SRK and Hrithik serenading her. Kat’s popularity is likely to keep her magic alive, while Deepika and Sonam fight to consolidate their positions.

There will also be very pleasant surprises and some terrible upsets. January 28, should see Ajay Devgn, the actor who has had the best run at the box office in 2010, come with his first release Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. He will have four releases in the new year including Rohit Shetty’s Hindi remake of Suriya’s Tamil film Singham, David Dhawan’s no-brainer Rascals and also Rohit’s Bol Bachchan with Abhishek. January 14, will also be a joint celebration for the Deols. Their Yamla Pagla Deewana releases that day. This is a fabulous chance for Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby to consolidate More >

Aamir Khan resolves to give up drinking and smoking for life By Meena Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 21, 2010)

When the 3 Idiots team celebrated their success at a suburban restaurant in Andheri on January 18, people noticed that the lead actor Aamir Khan didn’t touch a drop of alcohol.

A couple of days earlier at his nephew Imran Khan’s engagement party too, Aamir refrained from sipping champagne.

News has it that on January 1, 2010 Aamir had decided that he would give up alcohol and cigarettes.

This time, for life.

Aamir says the next time he invites you home he will treat you to a glass of beer, but he will drink limbu paani.

Confirming that he has indeed decided to quit drinking and smoking, Aamir says, “I just felt like doing it from within. There is no specific reason.”

When he’s goaded further, the actor says, “Yaar, I’ve put on 10 kilos in recent months.  Also, sometimes, I tended to overdo the drinking bit. And I hate it when I feel unhealthy.  So I just decided that I wanted to quit alcohol for life. As for cigarettes, I was never a regular smoker. But I’ve decided to give it up completely too.”

Here’s what we suggest you bring out the popcorn for MUMBAI MIRROR; January 01, 2010 Karthik Calling Karthik

Farhan Akhtar’s next film is a story of a lovable loser whose chance meeting with his namesake changes his life forever. Karthik Calling Karthik has a star-studded credit list which includes Deepika Padukone, Javed Akhtar and Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. Considering Farhan acts in the movies he either directs or produces, it seems like he is bent on wanting to typecast himself as the underdog. Weird but true!

My name is Khan

Bollywood’s biology lessons continue with My Name Is Khan. With 9/11 as the backdrop, the movie follows Rizwan Khan (SRK) who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome. This is an autistic disease that makes the victim devoid of empathy. This, of course will give rise to many comical situations, just like Paa did. The film brings together the electrifying pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol back on the silver screen. Add Karan Johar to the mix and you have a surefire hit. But come on, what is the film industry going to explore next, the common cold?

Raajneeti A modern-day political rendition of the Mahabharata, Raajneeti boasts of an A-list star cast – Ajay Devgan, Arjun Rampal, Ranbir Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Vivek Oberoi, Manoj Bajpai and Katrina Kaif. The movie will use the dilemmas the characters in the book went through, and draw parallels with it in reel life. Katrina Kaif is reportedly playing the role of Sonia Gandhi in the movie. More >

Chetan Bhagat peeved about not being credited for 3 Idiots

HITLIST (Mid-Day; January 1, 2010)

The writer has plenty to say about the movie being touted as being different from his book Five Point Someone

Chetan Bhagat is peeved that he has not been given his due credit in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots. The film is based on his novel Five Point Someone. The writer has vented his ire ‘A book, a film and the truth’ on his blog (http://www.chetanbhagat.com/).

Here’s an extract…. “The 3 Idiots story credit issue has been making some noise now… and I think it is important I clarify a few things. Clearly, the makers of the film have been unfair and thousands of my readers have been saying so.This is not an issue that has ‘just come up’. I’ve been grappling with it for two years, but kept silent about it.

Wrong claims The only reason it has surfaced after the movie’s release is because Five Point Someone has a few million readers, and when you copy a popular story claiming it as ‘original’ and ‘completely different’, people are going to find out.

The case is as simple as the makers claiming the story as their own, and clearly it is not. Pre-release, the makers made  statements like  the movie is only ‘very loosely’ inspired by the book….

After release, those who have read the book and seen the movie (and frankly, I think those are the only people who have the right to comment) find the film to be an adaptation of Five Point Someone. Almost all aspects that make up the story are from FPS. Yes, there are some changes, any adaptation requires More >

Sajid not to host Screen Awards this year

0

HITLIST TEAM (Mid-Day; January 1, 2010)

The folks associated with the Star Screen awards have taken the decision not to have Sajid Khan as the host for the 2009 film awards nite.

Last year, Ashutosh Gowariker made a hue and cry about the comments that Farah Khan’s brother had passed about him in jest at the event.

So instead of trampling on some more egos, they have decided to let Sajid go. The awards are slated for January 9 and will be telecast on Star Plus on January 18.
