Ram Gopal Varma’s car was spotted outside Jalsa, last evening. What happened behind closed doors, remains a mystery

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 28, 2011)

On April 26, 2011, Mumbai Mirror broke the story about the fallout between Ram Gopal Varma and the Bachchans.

Thanks to his continuous updates on a social networking site, we know the filmmaker has been disturbed since then. His car parked outside the Bachchan residence Jalsa, yesterday evening was all the proof we needed. Looks like, the director went out of his way to mend bridges with Bollywood’s first family.

Our source told us, “The recent reports about Ramu ruining the suspense of Dum Maaro Dum, which features Abhishek in the lead, and his statements about replacing Abhishek with Rana Duggabati in his forthcoming film Department has not gone down too well with the Bachchans.

Ramu has been insisting that he is yet to see Dum Maaro Dum and he was not the one who sent the text messages.

Also, Rana’s inclusion in the film had been purely due to date problems.

However, the Bachchans are far from convinced. Ramu, who has always shared a warm relationship with them and worked in numerous films, realised that he had to make amends.

Although, he did not feel that he was anywhere wrong. He decided to go and meet Amitabh and explain his side of the story.”

Though no one knows what exactly happened in the Bachchans’ living room, speculations are that the Big B might just be back with Ramu More >

Builder, B-town biggies bid to acquire bungalow adjacent to Amitabh Bachchan’s Juhu home Jalsa; owners of Saraf house deny the property is up for sale

Alka Shukla (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 20, 2011)

A sprawling house in Juhu, adjacent to Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow Jalsa, is said to be up for sale.

Market sources said actor Akshay Kumar, real estate giants Ajmeras, and a top bracket Bollywood actress are among those who have shown a keen interest in buying the property.

Market sources said that the Saraf family, which owns the 8,820-sq ft property, is expecting Rs 60 crore from the deal. But, the family, at this juncture, is dismissing the sale talk as speculation. “These are only rumours. We have no intentions of selling it,” Atul Saraf, a family member, said.

The house stands out among other bungalows due to the large Om symbol inscribed on the front wall.

Market sources estimate the 8,820-sq-ft property to be worth Rs 60 crore.

The Sarafs have owned this property for over three decades. The house is just a 10-minute walk from Juhu Beach.

Real estate sources said there are around six parties interested in buying the house. The Ajmera family owns a bungalow adjoining the Sarafs’ house.

A highly-placed source said, “For the Ajmeras, the deal will work out as an extension to their plot.

They are looking at this property as part of a business proposition. They are negotiating hard, and plan to come up with exclusive high-end residences.”

Petition by film-maker’s neighbour alleges string of violations on Juhu plot in connivance with BMC authorities

Alka Shukla (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 13, 2011)

A neighbour of film-maker Vashu Bhagnani has moved Bombay High Court, alleging that his firm, Pooja Constructions, is “jeopardising neighbourhood safety” by flouting Development Control Regulations, environment and fire safety norms.

The petition has been filed by Rajhoo Barot who has two plots adjacent to Bhagnani’s under-construction building in Juhu.

Situated opposite actor Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow, Jalsa, the project falls in the Coastal Regulatory Zone 2.

House of Violations?

In 2009, a clearance had been granted for a ground-plus-three structure. A year later, the film producer-turned-builder managed to get approval for a 13-storey tower on the 605.20 sq m plot. The structure would have a car parking podium at the first-floor level.

The original plot area, the petition says, was 1,176 sq mt. It was reduced to 605.20 sq mt after 570.80 sq mt of space was used up to widen two public roads for which the developer was entitled to use a certain portion of the lost area on the existing plot.

Alleging connivance with BMC officials, the petition lists at least 17 irregularities in sanctioning of the building plan.

The petition says that the builder has left less than 5 ft open space making it difficult for fire brigade to access the two plots owned by the Barots.

Two women land an unexpected chance to be ushered inside Amitabh Bachchan’s house, as their health deteriorates outside his bungalow By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 16, 2009)

What happens when Amitabh Bachchan decides to step out of his bungalow and reach out to his fans? Chaos, traffic jams, a near stampede-like situation and of course, a crowd of crazy but satisfied fans.

That’s precisely what happened yesterday evening. However this time, a couple of women also got breathless. Apparently, Amitabh took control of the situation, instructed his security to take them inside Jalsa and ensured that nothing adverse happened to them.

As per his Sunday routine, Amitabh stepped out of Jalsa and met his fans. According to our source, he was giving television interviews for Paa when he decided to take a small break. He knew his fans were waiting outside. This time around though, he had planned a special surprise for them.

Amitabh Bachchan outside Jalsa

A witness to the situation outside Jalsa said, “When Amitabh stepped out and started distributing autographed pictures, people crowded to grab the pictures and to just touch the living legend. The word that Amitabh was out, spread like wild fire and the crowd soon increased manifold, causing a jam on the roads. Caught in the mini mêlée, a couple of elderly women started feeling breathless. It immediately caught Amitabh’s attention and he asked his security guards to rush them inside the house and More >
