Bollywood hotties Imran and Kat drop their defences!
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; October 2, 2010)
The Imran Khan-Katrina Kaif association has a Mills & Boon quality about it. It started with indifference and now these two Bollywood hotties share a good working relationship.
The first beneficiary is filmmaker Aditya Chopra who has signed this striking looking couple for his high-energy, romantic comedy Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Earlier Imran and Katrina were signed on for 7 Days in Paris, which got shelved. The actors rediscovered each other on the sets of MBKD. Says Imran, “We were like total strangers before this film started. And we barely had any time to get acquainted. At the very start of the schedule Katrina and I shot for some key scenes with a lot of dialogue and emotions. And I must tell you Katrina is becoming a pro with her Hindi dialogue. This film is set in Delhi, Chandigarh, and Himachal. And Kat has managed to get even the local flavour of the Hindi spoken in the heartland of India. She managed a two page dialogue with ease…’’
Imran also feels that in MBKD, Kat has an author-backed role and will walk away with the accolades. “I have always enjoyed working with people who are out to prove a point,’’ says the light-eyed actor. “That way all of us end up giving our best.’’ On a lighter note, he adds, “Kat has lost a good amount of weight and I have grown up from a bachcha to a young man. So I guess we will not only make a good looking couple, we may also come out as a good performing screen pair.’’
Kat on her part laughs and says, “What does Imran mean when he says that I have lost weight? Was I fat before I started this film?” But good-natured barbs aside, Kat and Imran are getting along truly well. Adds Katrina, “Imran is a very simple person. He is absolutely straight-forward and focussed on his work. And I like working with people for whom everything except their work is secondary.’’

Katrina Kaif’s nose is giving her a lot of issues. Wondering why? Well here’s the story. At the shoot of Yash Raj’s yet untitled project at Pataudi palace in Haryana, Katrina was shooting a comic scene with her co-star Imran Khan which unfortunately led to some bloody developments.
The scene being shot demanded Imran to have a gun in one hand and Katrina by his side. He was to move around and pull Katrina towards him with the other hand. An error in judgement led to Imran smashing the barrel of his gun into Kat’s nose. It happened so quickly and in seconds Kat’s nose was bleeding.
Coincidentally, this was the same side of Kat’s nose that was injured during the shoot of Ajab Prem Ki Ajab Kahani when Ranbir accidentally landed a blow on her face.
Seeing the state of her nose everyone panicked, the shooting was cancelled and Katrina was escorted to her van. A doctor was called and she was administered first aid. The bleeding did stop but she was still in pain. Twice hit in the same spot, Katrina should really get her nose insured.
Sajid Nadiadwala was allegedly hesitant to screen the trailer of Break Ke Baad, starring Imran Khan, with his feature Anjaana Anjaani. But the producers have gone ahead and tagged themselves to the film anyway
Newsflash: the trailer of Break Ke Baad, starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone, will be shown during the screening of Anjaana Anjaani, whether producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Ranbir Kapoor like it or not.
Reliance Big Pictures apparently called up Nadiadwala to say that they wanted him to attach the trailer of their film Break Ke Baad to Anjaana Anjaani. But Sajid turned them down, insinuating that the hero of Anjaana Anjaani (Ranbir) wouldn’t be happy about this.
Sajid suggested that if he complied with their marketing strategy, it would upset Ranbir. Sajid then added that the dynamics were too complicated to be explained.
Another reason why Sajid apparently chose to say ‘no’ was because both Anjaana Anjaani and Break Ke Baad are youthful films with similar target audiences. Seemingly, he did not want the spotlight to shift from his film.
Apart from this, grapevine had it that Ranbir and Imran, who were once good friends, are not on good terms. They have not admitted to this but their friendship went sour when Imran’s fiancée Avantika made some uncharitable remarks about Raajneeti, which stars Ranbir.
Meanwhile, not left with an alternative, Reliance Big Pictures called up all the theatres and asked them to show the trailer of Break Ke Baad with Anjaana Anjaani and the other releases, Robot, Khichdi and Benny Aur Bablu.
Says a source, “Reliance Big Pictures doesn’t have to pay the theatres. Studios and theatres work on a goodwill basis. Nadiadwala was very polite, but his conversation with Big Pictures clearly implied that he didn’t want to have the trailer of Break Ke Baad playing alongside his film Anjaana Anjaani.”
When contacted however, Nadiadwala told Mumbai Mirror, “I am not attaching the trailer of Break Ke Baad in Anjaana Anjaani? This is news to me. My signature would be required to attach it. But you see, I have not been approached by Reliance for the same.
Even if they call me now to do it, I happily will. I have no problem with Imran. He is a very sweet boy. And if they are going ahead and showing the trailer, I still don’t have any issues.”
On the other hand, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer of Reliance Big Pictures, Priti Shahni, told us, “It was always our plan to be in the theatres this weekend.
This is a good weekend with three films releasing, which includes Anjaana Anjaani.
Our trailer of Break Ke Baad has been programmed across the country in all theatres with all the three films.”
That’s enough said, we think.

Abbas Tyrewala’s second film Jhootha Hi Sahi has not even released as yet and the director is already preparing to start his next film titled Jaane Kya Tune Kahi. The film would be Abbas’ third directorial venture thereby completing what he calls his romance trilogy.
While Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na was a romance between college friends, Jhootha Hi Sahi is a love story among friends, who are just into their first jobs. His third film of this romantic series Jaane Kya Tune Kahi will be a more matured love story.
As for the casting, Abbas has managed a coup of sorts for his third film, for he has Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza (his stars from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na) and John Abraham (his actor from Jhootha Hi Sahi) for Jaane Kya Tune Kahi.
Abbas has already started scripting for the film, and the pre-production of the film is already rolling. Abbas seems to have an affinity to romantic films set amongst a gang of friends. Incidentally, the titles of all his 3 films have been popular songs of the yesteryears.
May not do Madhur Bhandarkar’s film which apparently is on the life of the veteran Hollywood actress
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; September 27, 2010)
Strong reports suggest that Kareena Kapoor and Madhur Bhandarkar, who had decided to start work on Heroine, may not end up doing the film together — at least not yet. Though earlier Bebo was very excited about her association with Madhur, who is fantastic with women-oriented subjects, a source says, “The first round of stories suggested that Madhur was making a film based on the life of Hollywood sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. Later, others suggested he was doing a Sunset Boulevard kind of a film. As the speculations continued, it turned out that Kareena had not even had a complete story narration.”
To make matters worse, Kareena and Madhur didn’t address this issue. An insider adds, “Madhur’s script is allegedly based on the life of Elizabeth Taylor and her tumultuous love affairs and various marriages. Rumours say that Arjun Rampal was to play a role similar to that of Richard Burton. And talks were on with various other actors to play Liz Taylor’s other husbands. Emraan Hashmi’s name also cropped up for an interesting part. Though Kareena and Arjun got along like a house on fire while shooting We Are Family, somewhere along the way, she developed cold feet when it came to playing Liz Taylor.”
As things currently stand, neither Kareena nor Madhur are willing to say that their project is not happening. In fact, several intermediaries are at work to get them together. One still continues to hear that the film is deferred and not shelved. But if you follow the dots, then you’ll note that Bebo’s date diary now includes Bodyguard with Salman Khan, Short Term Shaadi with Imran Khan, Agent Vinod with Saif Ali Khan and RA One with Shah Rukh Khan. What’s more, all these Khan films will be shot back-toback. So despite their “no-comments” stand, one can safely assume that Kareena and Madhur will not be working together — like we said, at least not yet.

Where other celebrities are saving the world, someone has taken the up cause of man’s best friend and joined hands with PETA. Instead of fighting for vegetarianism or talking about going green, Imran Khan is urging people to make space in your comfy abode for stray dogs rather than going for pedigree dogs.
Instead of being one who only preaches rather than practices, Imran himself let an abandoned dog feel at home in his starry house. The story goes like this. One day Imran’s dog Kajri was out for a walk. She came back with another dog that followed her home. The dog was abandoned by the owners but Imran and his family took her in. This was after the release of Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.
When PETA approached Imran recently to do an ad with them, he was more than happy. This is one cause he actually believes in and even shot the ad with his adopted pet, Tony. Friends even claim that Imran always urges them to adopt rather than go for pedigree dogs. The PETA featuring Imran will be out soon.
The actress has chosen abstract tattoos to get under the skin of a grungy punk character
Katrina Kaif is getting inked and how! Director Ali Abbas Zafar has shortlisted 20-25 designs for tattoos that will be flaunted on Kat’s body. Zafar is a debutant director who will be directing the actress along with Imran Khan in Yashraj’s next untitled venture. The charming actress is donning an edgy look for it.
Tattoos are forever but the actress is not willing to get inked for life. A source close to the film informs, “Katrina plays a rebel in the film sporting a grungy punk look. She will be getting interesting abstract tattoos, which will, of course, be temporary in nature.”
Recently she visited a tattoo artist in town to choose her designs. The source adds, “Ali Abbas had shortlisted 20-25 designs, and Katrina chose abstract designs over animals or human sketches which would go with her rebellious character.”
A source close to Katrina reveals, “The actress likes tattoos but is scared of the needles. One doubts if she will get a permanent tattoo in the future. But for the moment she is comfortable to get inked temporarily. Anything to get in the skin of the character.”
Katrina confirms, “Yes we are using tattoos in the film but my director Ali Abbas Zafar is choosing them.” That’s an ‘abstract’ response, Kat!
Karan Johar explains his respect for debutant directors
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; September 9, 2010)
He has magnetic charm. Karan Johar, who has given Bollywood some of the finest filmmaking talent in recent times, continues to attract the newbies. And the reason why young talent like Tarun Mansukhani, Ayan Mukherji, Punit Malhotra, Rensil D’Silva, Siddharth Malhotra, Shakun Batra and Karan Malhotra find themselves attracted to Dharma Productions is because they know it’s a banner to reckon with.
And the man at the helm will be their guiding light. Says Karan, who has taken Dharma to the dizzying heights at which it stands today, “Our banner is always on the lookout for fresh, young and hungry talent. I have not signed any established directors because I truly believe in giving a break to the new directors who I know have promise.” And it is true, if you look at his directors in the last couple of years, except for Rensil D’Silva (who was already an established ad filmmaker and screen-writer before he made Kurbaan), all the others have started their innings with Karan.
“Tarun (Dostana), Punit (I Hate Luv Storys), Ayan (Wake Up Sid) and Siddharth (We Are Family) have been nutured under our banner,” adds Karan. “I have leveraged their talent for the company. And they in turn have been loyal to Dharma. All of them have shown a level of ambition and zest for achievement that I find very infectitious. Therefore, it has been my endeavour to provide them with the right platform to realise their dreams.”
Next year is going to be Dharma’s. Ayan will start his next film after the critically acclaimed Wake Up Sid; Punit is scripting his next film after the super-successful I Hate Luv Storys; Karan Malhotra will direct Agneepath; and Shakun Batra will release his Kareena Kapoor-Imran Khan film. Rensil is not contracted to Dharma, but will also start a film for this banner. KJo, who believes that the secret of keeping young talent happy is to give his directors a free hand, says, “Of course, certain technical details are discussed at length and I may make suggestions, but by and large the process of filmmaking remains democratic. If I allow my directors to breathe instead of breathing down their necks, they will come up with a film that is true to their script and good for the company.” He is democratic, not autocratic, but believes in being absolutely pragmatic! “Perhaps that’s the only place where I come in,” Karan says, “otherwise my directors are men of free will.”
