Days after filing her first petition in court, the actor-choreographer’s wife Latha has filed for a second one
The battle between actor-choreographer Prabhu Deva and his wife just got murkier. The Family Court in Chennai summoned Prabhu Deva and actress Nayanthara today, to appear before the court on Oct 19.
The court issued a notice in this regard after Prabhu Deva’s wife Latha filed a second petition before it on Wednesday. “She was seeking directions against her husband from marrying Nayanthara, till her petition was disposed off,” advocate P Anandan said.
Latha also sought directions against her husband and Nayanthara from attending functions together and receiving awards as husband and wife.
Not too long ago, Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara were selected as the Best Couple of the Year 2010 by a magazine published in Hyderabad. Consecutively, Latha had asked the court to direct her husband and Nayanthara “not to behave as such in public, causing serious loss of name, fame and reputation to both sides.’’
Latha had levelled serious allegations against Nayanthara in her earlier petition. She also said that whenever Nayanthara visited Chennai she used to take Prabhu Deva along with her and they used to stay in Park Hotel.
On September 4, Latha had filed a petition seeking directions from the court to restore her conjugal rights. Since then some women’s groups have turned against Nayanthara.
A section of women protested in Chennai on Tuesday and burnt the photographs of Nayanthara, according to sources.
Meanwhile, Latha filed a second petition today amidst reports in the local press that despite her first petition Prabhu Deva was going ahead with his plans to marry Nayanthara.

Seems it is an animated Ramayana season this Dussehra.
Close to the heels of release announcement of Maya’s 3D animated flick Ramayana, Hyderabad based RVML animation is all set to release 2D animated feature Lava Kusa: The Warrior Twins on October 8th across 200 screens pan India.
The feature is presented by PEN, produced by RVML animation and released by Suniel Wadhwa from ’52 weeks entertainment Inc’ in India.
Lava Kusa: The Warrior Twins, is the tale of two endearing twins Lava and Kusa (Sons of lord Rama and Sita), growing up in the forest with their mother and sage Valmiki. As young men they pit their strength against Rama, the absentee father who has aggrieved their mother. This story from the Ramayan depicts the determination of the twins and the adventures they have as they journey towards their aim, getting their father to redress the wrongs he’s done to their mother.
On being asked about choosing a generic topic (mythology) as the story has been told several times on different platforms, Rayudu V. Sashank, Creative Director and Producer of Lava Kusa. Says, “The story of Ramayana has surely been told several times in popular media, but not so in the case with the mythological characters of Lava and Kusa. This is the reason why children today do not know much about the warrior twins. Telling the story of Lava and Kusa through an animation film would best connect with children who are our target audience,”
Music of the flick plays a key role and is being released in three versions, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The music is composed by acclaimed Music Director late L. Vaidyanathan of Malgudi Days and Pushpaka Vimanam fame. Renowned singers like K. J Yesudas, Vijay Yesudas, Shankar Mahadevan, Chitra and Sadhana Sargam have rendered songs in the movie.
On a concluding note, PEN’s Dhaval Gada added, “The Warrior Twins will add an extra zing to the festive season this year, the first offering from Pen’s stable of animation films. Children and families are sure to enjoy the film”
The star choreographer dragged to court as wife files petition challenging his ‘illicit’ relationship with Nayanthara
Actor, choreographer and film director Prabhu Deva’s life lately reads like a Kollywood flick. His wife, Latha Prabhu Deva aka Ramalath, filed a petition on Monday with Chennai’s family court seeking to re-unite with her husband, her advocate P Anandan told the paper.
Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara were reportedly planning to get married shortly. Latha has accused Nayanthara of preventing Prabhu Deva from giving anything to her and her children for their survival.
Latha quoted several recent reports linking Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara. One such report announced that Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara were selected as the ‘Best Couple of the year 2010’ by a magazine published in Hyderabad.
|Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara|
Stating that she has been subjected to serious mental agony and torture by such reports Latha alleged that Prabhu Deva is deserting his family and neglecting her and their two children. “Even for monthly expenses Prabhu Deva is not giving any money,’’ Latha said, accusing Nayanthara of preventing him from doing so.
Latha said that whenever Prabhu Deva visited his house Nayanthara would call him up and pull him away. Even when his son passed away, Prabhu Deva, at Nayanthara’s insistence, left the place the very next day.
Worse still, she revealed that lately Nayanthara would directly call her, demanding her to accept their relationship and to give her consent for their marriage.
Nayanthara also spread rumours in the film industry that she had gifted me Rs 3 crore and 180 sovereigns of gold jewels, including a necklace worth Rs 85 lakh, to agree to this marriage. This is a great insult to the family Latha added.
She said that after Prabhu Deva became a hero and a director, he started behaving in a different way. It was in 2008, when directing the Tamil film Villu, that he developed a relationship with Nayanthara. Thereafter the cinematic relationship turned into a real-life one.

There have been unconfirmed reports that Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara had even secretly tied the knot in Hyderabad, she also alleged. Prabhu Deva’s parents, who supposedly never liked Latha, had encouraged the “illegal relationship” and joined hands with Nayanthara to harass and torture her.
Latha married Prabhu Deva in the year 1995. It was a “love-cum-arranged” marriage, she claimed. The couple has three children. Their first son, Basava Raju alias Vishal, passed away from cancer in 2008. It has been a difficult time for this family.

ANJAANA ANJAANI, riding on the star power of Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, opened to very good houses at multiplexes across the country. Multiplexes in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Hyderabad and other centres opened to almost packed house. The opening and noon shows were in 80% to 90% range. At several stations, they were 100% too. However, the single screens are expected to be slow not just for ANJAANA ANJAANI, but for ROBOT too since the audience hasn’t really gone out in mass-dominated Hindi belt.
ROBOT [Hindi version] has started slowly, its opening was 30% in morning and noon shows, but the reports are very good and the film is expected to grow by evening. The film has opened to an exceptional response in South.
It isn’t easy to make a film on a Naxalite’s life. Here we can see why. Ever since Rakhta Charitra went on floors Ram Gopal Varma has been receiving death threats
This time it is the opponent of deceased Naxalite leader Ravi Paritala and one of the main characters in the film, Ubala Reddy, whose family has filed a case against Ramu and has threatened him over the negative portrayal of Ubala’s character. Abhimanyu Singh plays the character of Ubala Reddy in the film.
|Ram Gopal Varma||Abhimanyu Singh (Yogen Shah)|
A source said, “Ubala’s family and some of his followers have threatend Ramu’s life for the negative portrayal of Ubala’s character. Ramu will now talk to the Andhra Pradesh police.” Reddy was killed in the Hyderabad in 1999.
Confirming the news of threats coming his way from Ubala, Ram Gopal Varma said, “Yes they have put a legal notice and I am getting threatening calls and messages through various people.
They are not happy with the way he has been portrayed in the film. He had many criminal cases against him before he was killed in 1999. I will speak to the AP police at an appropriate time.”
The actress, who had once accused her parents of embezzling her career earnings, was rather close to her granny Susheela Patel
The Patel household is in a state of shock. Ameesha and Ashmit Patel lost their paternal grandmother on Thursday night. Ameesha’s grandmother Susheela Patel breathed her last at 10.30 pm, after suffering from a prolonged illness. The entire family rushed the next morning to attend to her last rites.
Ameesha was very close to her grandmother. She used to spend a lot of quality time with her and would often take her out too. Having suffered from a chequered equation with her parents, whom she once accused of embezzling her career earnings, Ameesha was rather close to her grandmother.
Her patch-up with her parents last December could well have been her grandmother’s doing. This therefore is a big loss for the actor.
|A file picture of Ameesha Patel (R) with her grandmother Susheela (L)|
Her sibling, a grieving Ashmit Patel, said, “She had been bedridden for the past couple of years due to a car accident she suffered in 2005. She was extremely alert, intuitive and full of life. In her last 10 days, she suffered a lot. But she passed away peacefully on Thursday night. She was very close both to my sister and me. It’s quite a shock for us. More so for my sister because she had taken care of her single-handedly for the past five-six years.”
Incidentally Ameesha was shooting in Hyderabad for a Telegu film when she heard the news. She rushed to Pune immediately to attend to the last rites, accompanied with her recently-reconciled mother.
On account of a sudden and severe viral attack, Aishwarya Rai had to give Rajnikanth’s music launch for Enthiran/Robot a miss
The rampant viral fever in Mumbai is sparing no one. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was all set to leave Mumbai on Friday morning for the music release of the Telugu version of Shankar’s Enthiran/Robot.
But on Friday morning Aishwarya woke up with burning fever and was hardly able to move out of her bed.
Says a source very close to Ash, “She panicked on Friday morning. They had arranged a lavish function in Hyderabad for the music release. Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi was to be the chief guest. Aishwarya’s co-star Rajnikanth, who recently called her ” the female Rajnikanth” had personally requested her to come.”
Apparently, On Abhishek’s and mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan’s insistence, Aishwarya gave the function a miss.
At the function however, a recorded message from her was played for the crowd that had gathered to see her. She also sent personal apologies to Rajnikanth and Chiranjeevi.
Regretting her sudden illness, Aishwarya said, “I was so looking forward to being in Hyderabad. But due to high fever, the doctor insisted I stay home and rest.” Don’t worry Abhi, she didn’t forget to mention your name on purpose.

Casting Abhishek and his illustrious Bachchan father as son and father was seen as too predictable. In a film that marks the return of Telugu super-director Puri Jagannath into Bollywood, Sonu Sood and not Abhishek has been cast as the Big B’s son.
It was felt by everyone that Sood bears an uncanny resemblance to the young Big B from the early 1970s.
Says a source close to the project, “If you put Mr. Bachchan’s still from Anand and Pyar Ki Kahani next to Sood’s stills you’d think it’s the same person.”
The project earlier entitled Bhudda: Don’t F…K With Him is now entitled Bhudda Panga Nahin Lene Ka. Apparently, Ramu was keen on it. But the ‘F’ word didn’t go down too well with the Big B.
The project to be produced by Ram Gopal Varma puts a lid on all speculation about RGV’s apparently shaky relationship with the Bachchans. RGV first produces the Senior Bachchan’s film with Sonu Sood in October and then directs a film starring Abhishek Bachchan in January.
Except for the fact that the expletive from the title Bhudda: Don’t F..K With Him has now been deleted, apparently on the Big B’s suggestion, the ambitious project produced by Ram Gopal Varma and directed by Telugu cinema’s no.1 director Puri Jagannath has suffered no dent due to Big B’s meagre dates. Big B had earlier decided to focus on his television commitment for Kaun Banega Crorepati this year. But now in what appears to be swift swoop of changed plans Puri Jagannath’s film will be shot from October.
Speaking from Hyderabad Puri who had flown in to Mumbai last week to finalize all plans for the Bachchan starrer says, “Yes, I’ve cast Sonu Sood with Mr. Bachchan. I’ve done two Telugu films with Sonu. He’s a very talented actor. I can’t talk about his role. Mr. Bachchan’s character requires two heroines. So does Sonu Sood’s. I’ll be finalizing them shortly.”
Earlier Puri had been put Bhudda….on the backburner in favour of a gangster epic The Businessman with Suriya. Now the prolific Telugu director will make the Bachchan film first in October. But before that he helms a Telugu film in August.
Adds Sonu Sood, “It’s a dream come true for me. I’ve waited ten years to work with Bachchan Saab… It’s an intense cop’s role. And the best part is that I got the role because everyone in the project says I look like Mr. Bachchan in Zanjeer. I remember it was Mani Ratnam who said it first. In Yuva when Abhishek and I were working together as brothers, Mani Sir said I look more like Bachchan Saab than he did.”
The producer and director of Knockout are at loggerheads; now the film’s leading lady Kangna Ranaut is trying to play the peacemaker
Seems like producer-director Hema Malini has set a trend. Recently, the Sanjay Dutt-Kangna Ranaut starrer Knockout ran into trouble. The film’s producer Sohail Maklai and director Mani Shankar are at loggerheads with each other over creative differences.
Power equations have now changed to such an extent that there is no scope for an amicable discussion between the two. A source says, “There are serious creative differences between the producer and the director of the film. Presently, Sohail and Mani are not even on talking terms.”
Though work on the film started well, the latter half of the shooting schedules saw a lot of arguments between Sohail and Mani. Apparently, the film expenditure kept multiplying with time and as a result, the budget limits collapsed. This irked Sohail.
But surprisingly, Mani has decided to be absent at the final edit sessions of the film, which are currently in progress. The source adds, “Mani is in Hyderabad and Sohail in Mumbai. Sohail and his team have taken charge at the editing table.
And guess who is trying to build bridges? Kangna Ranaut. The actress has been making incessant calls to both Sohail and Mani, urging them to resolve their differences for the sake of the film.
The source adds, “Knockout is very close to Kangna’s heart. This will be her second action thriller after Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. She believes that the director’s inputs are crucial in every aspect of the film.”
|Mani Shankar||Sohail Maklai|
Sohail however refuses to admit the story and says, “No, this is not true but you can check with Mani.”
And turns out, Mani wants to second Sohail on this matter. Did we do the needful Kangna? He says, “There are no differences between us. We always worked as one team and I’m very much on the final edit.” However, an insider from the film’s unit confirmed the story.

Osama Bin Laden. Just Google this name and I am sure, the results would be amongst the highest on the web. Post 9/11, terror has a new name and also a face. Now imagine Osama Bin Laden running a poultry farm and also running behind chickens. Imagine Osama Bin Laden ogling at a makeup woman. Imagine Osama Bin Laden urinating outside a television studio, but ready to hand-over his business card to the person urinating on the other side. Imagine Osama becoming a business partner in a tacky salon.
Smiling, are you? That, in a nutshell, is TERE BIN LADEN, a wicked comedy with an out-of-the-box concept that offers laughter unlimited. In fact, I don’t think I’ve flexed my facial muscles in any other film in the recent past as much as I did while watching this satirical comedy. What gives TERE BIN LADEN an edge over other comedies is that it’s not the slapstick humour that keeps you entertained. This one has a story to tell as well, which also delves deeply into the minds of today’s youth.
|BY BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COM|
Final word? Grab a popcorn, sip your cola and get ready to laugh non-stop for the next two hours. You would love Osama Bin Laden, for a change!
TERE BIN LADEN is a tongue-in-cheek comedy about an ambitious young news reporter from Pakistan [Ali Zafar], who is desperate to migrate to the U.S. in pursuit of the American dream. His repeated attempts to immigrate are shot down as his visa is always rejected. But when things couldn’t look worse, he comes across an Osama Bin Laden lookalike. Ali then hatches a scheme to produce a fake Osama video and sell it to news channels as a breakthrough scoop.
Unfortunately, there are serious ramifications as the White House gets involved and dispatches an overzealous secret agent on Ali’s trail.
Although TERE BIN LADEN uses a surname that’s known across the globe, there’s not one serious moment in this film. Even the modus operandi of the Americans to nab Laden [which, frankly, could've turned the film serious] is so juvenile and crazy that you can’t help but smile at the sequence of events.
Again, in a film that has Osama Bin Laden playing the central role, you’re curious to know what its culmination will be like. Whether debutant writer-director Abhishek Sharma would settle for a realistic conclusion or an open ending. Thankfully, the film doesn’t get preachy at all, nor does it get serious in those penultimate moments. It’s as funny as the rest of the film and makes you wonder, kaash, the solution would be as simple in real life.
Debutant director Abhishek Sharma takes an offbeat story and gives it an interesting twist. Who would’ve ever thought of making a film on Osama Bin Laden and that too a comedy? This guy sure has courage to swim against the tide. Besides writing a crazy film and decorating it with madcap characters, Abhishek also does justice to the subject by handling it so well. Making people laugh is a herculean task and maintaining the tempo is, perhaps, the biggest challenge. One continues to smile from Scene A to Z and in two sequences specifically, I ended up laughing hysterically. One, when Piyush Mishra falls in the drain and lands straight on the hot seat and the second, when a bomb explodes inside the studio. Outrageously funny sequences, both!
The first-time director also deserves credit for recreating Pakistan in Hyderabad in India. Right from the look to the language to the costumes to the artefacts to the typical truck that you see in Pakistan, TERE BIN LADEN gets it right. Santosh Thundiyil’s cinematography is good. Dialogue are witty and the one-liners specially evoke mirth. The review would be incomplete if I didn’t highlight the invaluable contribution by its music composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. ‘Ullu Da Patha’ is already a rage, while ‘I Love Amreeka’ is foot-tapping as well.
Casting new, confident and most importantly, talented actors gives the film the right push. Ali Zafar is a star, no two opinions on that. The youngster is a package of good looks, super talent and the right screen presence. He charms his way into your heart with a super-confident performance and I strongly feel that there’s no stopping him after this film. In fact, TERE BIN LADEN heralds the arrival of a new star in Bollywood.
Pradhuman Singh is a replica of Osama Bin Laden and is in terrific form in the film. In fact, the film would’ve fallen flat had it not been for the actor enacting this part so convincingly. Piyush Mishra is exceptional, like always. Sugandha Garg [as Zoya] is first-rate. Nikhil Ratnaparkhi [as Gul, the cameraman, Ali's partner in crime] is very good. Rahul Singh [as radio jockey Qureshi] is perfect. Barry John [as Ted] is competent. Chirag Vohra [as Lateef, who writes the lines in Arabic language] supports well. Chinmay Mandlekar [as Barry John's sidekick] is decent. Rajendra Sethi [travel agent] is natural.
On the whole, TERE BIN LADEN is a fun-ride that makes you smile constantly and even laugh outrageously in those two hours. A thorough entertainer, this film has all it takes to not only make its viewers laugh in the aisles, but also its investors laugh all the way to the bank.
