Sidhartha Mallya’s drink spiked; hospitalized

Tushar Joshi (BOMBAY TIMES; November 25, 2011)

Sidhartha Mallya had a few drinks with friends on a night out recently. But the evening turned out to be a nightmare for him and his group, as he and another friend ended up in a hospital. They later learnt that someone had spiked their drinks. Mallya Jr wrote on a micro-blogging site, “Drink spiking is becoming very common and I urge you all to take caution when you go out..myself and a few friends may have fallen victim last week. Two of us ended up in hospital and I have three stitches in my head… please be careful no matter where you are in the world. Take care.” Looking back at the incident Sidhartha says, “This was the first time my drink has been spiked. I have gone out with friends and had a couple of drinks. The next morning I woke up not knowing what had happened the previous night. I had no memory, my mind was blank. It was like the movie The Hangover where the night before is a memory that’s blanked out.”

Sid adds that his concerned mom talked to him about the incident and made a valid point, “She said, ‘when you go to the washroom, you ask your friend to look after your mobile, or wallet but we don’t ask our friends to watch over your drink.’ It’s something that is so basic but what she said made so much sense. We must finish a drink and go or order a fresh one when you return. It takes less than a second for a mischief maker to add something to your drink. It could’ve been a lot worse. I am glad that I didn’t More >

Roshni K Olivera (BOMBAY TIMES; May 4, 2011)

This is no ordinary wheel chair. It’s the one Hrithik Roshan used in the film Guzaarish, where he played a paraplegic. And guess what? This chair has no takers. It’s lying in filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office for the past many months. Bhansali wants to donate the chair to somebody in need, a hospital or a charitable organisation, but hasn’t been able to do so. “I tried to offer it to some patients, but they declined saying they have small homes and it would be difficult to maneuver,” he told BT. This was a specially made-to-order remote controlled chair. So will it find its new owner soon?

First-time director Puja Jatinder Bedi alleges the actor misbehaved on the sets of Mary Magdalene

Bharti Dubey (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 06, 2011)

When the whole industry was keeping Shiney Ahuja at arm’s length because of the rape charges, one director decided to give the man a chance.

But Puja Jatinder Bedi, set to release her directorial venture Mary Magdalene, said her gesture backfired on her.

She has alleged that the actor, jailed for seven years for the rape of his maid, was no shining example of good behaviour with women on the sets and even made a pass at her.

Bedi said he made her uncomfortable by insisting she accompany him to his room to discuss the film there. “He would call me in and send the rest of the unit out. He even tried to hug me a couple of times and I had to be firm in my refusal.”

Bedi said Shiney’s co-star Sayali Bhagat had also complained that he made inappropriate comments on her clothes and looks on the sets.

“For a scene in a coffee shop, he told me he needed to hold hands with her for a while to feel the energy and warmth,” said Bedi, who has earlier been the line producer for films such as Saathiya and Mangal Pandey.

Sayali confirmed the incident. She said, “He held my hand, took me to a corner and talked about how he did the scenes with Kangna and Shilpa.

My mother stayed with me through the shooting because of his suspicious behaviour. He misbehaved with others, including Puja.”

Bedi said, “The day a crucial scene More >

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 22, 2011)

It was a close call for filmmaker-turned-actor Rituparno Ghosh.

Recently, while shooting for a screen adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Chitrangada in Kolkata, Rituparno was seriously injured when a camera fell straight on his forehead. Thankfully, he was shooting in a real hospital with real doctors.

A source explains what transpired, “It was a sequence showing Rituda being wheeled into the operation theatre.

Since Rituda is, for the first time, simultaneously directing and playing the lead, he was on the stretcher giving his shot and instructing the cameraman to take close-ups of his face.

This was when the camera fell on his forehead. There was blood all over his face.”

Rituparno was knocked unconscious.

But after a CT-scan, several tests and some stitches, he was declared out of danger.

The actor thought he had run over a beggar, only to realise it was all fake

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 21, 2011)

Yesterday evening, Hrithik Roshan drove out of his building Palazzio and headed to Yash Chopra’s Juhu Bungalow. Little did he know, what a fiasco awaited him later on in the evening.

It all started when Hrithik came out of Chopra’s house in his car. Three beggars came knocking at the car window.

Hrithik’s driver, who has been with the star since his first film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, and has never erred so far, slowed the car down.

But one of the beggars (circled in red, Pic 1) was up to some real mischief.

The beggar in question threw himself before the car and started screaming that he had been hurt.

He held his leg and turned sides yelling, ‘Maar dala, maar dala’. (See, Pic 2)

A few miscreants joined the scene and started pulling the beggar back to his feet, without succeeding. (See, Pic 3) “The idea was to convince Hrithik that the beggar had been badly injured,” informed a source.

Says an eyewitness, “Hrithik and his driver knew that they were not wrong. But then they got really scared. What if the beggar had been really hurt?”

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 07, 2011)

In a surprise visit on Saturday evening a wheel-chair bound, yet spirited, Shammi Kapoor wheeled into the hospital room, where Shabana Azmi’s mother Shaukat Azmi was recovering after a knee surgery.

A diehard Shammi Kapoor fan, Shabana Azmi stared open-mouthed as the two octogenarians launched into an endless ‘those-were-the-days’ chatter.

Marvels Shabana, “Shammiji wheeled himself in on his wheelchair accompanied by his daughter. He has to visit the hospital three times a week for dialysis. But he has tremendous spirit and an incredible memory.”

Shammi Kapoor left in an hour, but Shabana can’t stop talking about the visit. Shabana says with a fond chuckle, “It was so heartwarming to see Mum and Shammiji reminisce about their Prithvi Theatre days.

Do you know they were rejected for the roles of Salim and Anarkali? My mum was rejected because she couldn’t dance. And he was rejected because he couldn’t speak Urdu.

It was a treat for me to hear them discuss their early days as an actor because I learnt the fundamentals of acting from my mother.”

Shammi Kapoor was dressed in his Sunday best, as it was Shaukat’s request that all her visitors be nattily groomed.

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 26, 2011)

The rumours that suggested Amrita Rao was dating Shahid Kapoor can safely be put to rest.

Yes, Shahid has had Priyanka Chopra as his ladylove for quite long now but here’s the other side of the story. Amrita has been in a long-distance relationship with an NRI from San Francisco.

Our source said, “Amrita was once in the news for being artist MF Hussain’s muse. Later, Bollywood was always abuzz with rumours about Amrita dating different men but most of the rumours fell flat after a point of time.

In August, last year, the actress was in the midst of her Rajshri Production shoot for Love You Mr Kalakaar in San Francisco.

Trouble in the Tanaaz-Bakhtiyar marriage?

2

BT managed a sensational scoop!

Neha Maheshwri | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; February 15, 2011)

Rumour has it that all is not well in Tanaaz and Bakhtiyar’s four-year-old marriage.

The latest incident where the short-tempered husband slapped his curly-haired wife twice during the shoot of reality show Maa Exchange validates it. The reason for the alleged display of temper is because Bakhtiyar’s suspects that Tanaaz is growing close to the film and TV actor Vindoo Dara Singh.

An insider says, “Tanaaz and Vindoo became good friends during Maa Exchange and unfortunately, Bakhtiyar assumed that there was more than what meets the eye. He landed at a club in town where a party was organised for all the contestants of another reality show based on water sports in which both Vindoo and Bakhtiyar had earlier participated. We had requested Vindoo to take Tanaaz along with him. And somebody from the party informed Bakhtiyar that Tanaaz and Vindoo looked rather comfortable with each other. This information was enough to trigger his anger. He reportedly slapped Tanaaz in public.”

Hold on, this isn’t the only time when Bakhtiyar showed his mean temper. There was another incident when Tanaaz who was running late by just 20 minutes; when she was rushing to a hospital to visit Bakhtiyar’s family member, had to bear her husband’s ire. He accused her of being with Vindoo.
