Peepli [Live] has great start; Help is dull

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Help had a poor start of 25-30%. The film may do average business where horror films have a market but little chance of overall success.

Peepli [Live] managed a good start at places and average at others due to the Aamir Khan name. The first day was around 50-60%. The reports are good and the film should score well at multiplexes of big cities in the long run.

Aisha had a decent first week of 14.50 crore nett. The film dropped on Monday but a decent first weekend will enable the film to have fair lifetime business of 20 crore nett total and a 9 crore distributor share. The business was best in the Delhi NCR belt.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai was steady in week two with around 13 crore nett business. The two week total is now 47 crore nett and the film should hit the 55 crore nett mark. HIT

Aisha started on a poor note of around 30-35%. The evening and nights shows at select multiplexes of major metroes were a bit better but improvement was not the sort which suggests a noticeable pick up of collections over the weekend. Due to fairly low costs and good satellite returns the film is safe for the makers. The total investment is around 18 crore and 11 crore has already come from Satellite and music.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai had a good first week of 33.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The collections on the 8th day were fairly good with 40-50% collections though on less volume. The film looks set to emerge a hit. The film has an investment of around 38 crore (28 production, 10 publicity and advertising). 10 crore has come from satellite, Overseas (2 cr), Music (2cr) and Home Video (2cr) should add 6 crore leaving 22 cr to be made from India theatrical. With adding distributor commission a share of 23 crore plus will see the makers in the money.

Khatta Meetha dropped in week two with around 7 crore nett collections as per early estimates. The two week total is around the 39 crore nett mark. BELOW AVERAGE

Kites takes a bumper opening but reports are dull

Kites opened to a bumper response at most places. Some small centres in CP Berar and Gujarat were on the lower side but this will not affect overall initial collections. The film had problems in Mysore as the distributors gave it a big release which is not allowed for non Kannada movies in the circuit which will make weekend figures 4-5% lower unless it gets a release. The reports are not encouraging, the biggest reason being the film has a lot of English and Spanish dialogue. This is not even being appreciated in some major multiplexes of big cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

The worldwide distributors have a huge investment of 120 crore including marketing and prints but it was known before release that the film only had a small chance to recover this amount and now obviously they will suffer huge losses. The super strong start still gives the film a chance to be a theatrical hit in India but collections will have to hold over the weekend and show decent collections on weekdays and second weekend.

Badmaash Company had a rock solid second week of 9.25 crore nett. The film now has collections of around 28.50 crore nett after two weeks and although it looked like the film will have little chance after the release of Kites it may well be different now because if the poor reports of Kites translates into dropping collections then Badmaash Company will hang around longer at More >

Admissions Open had a very dull with around 5% collections. The film has no chance at the box office.

Bumm Bumm Bole opened to a poor 10% response. the film could pick up over Saturday and Sunday but overall collections will still be low.

Kushti also opened to a poor 5-10%. The film has been mainly aimed at small centres but will find it hard to even find a audience at small centres.

Badmaash Company scored well at the box office in its first week with around 21 crore nett collections. The film has been appreciated by the youth and was steady on its eight day which should mean another good week.

Its A Wonderful Afterlife and its dubbed versions Hai Marjawaan! were very bad with around 1 crore nett in week one. DISASTER

Housefull had a good second week of around 14 crore nett. The collections on the weekdays were very steady. The film has now collected around 61 crore nett in two weeks. Housefull opened well in its third week. HIT

Right Yaaa Wrong opened to a dull 10-15% response. The film has okay reports but will still find it tough to make an impact at the box office as opening collections are just too low.

Hide and Seek and Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke were very poor with 5-10% collections.

Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? had first week collections on the lower side of around 12.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The film was better at single screens of some circuits. Its fate depends on second weekend.

Karthik Calling Karthik dropped in week two with around 3.50 crore nett business. The two week total is around 17 crore nett. FLOP

My Name Is Khan added 2.50 crore nett in week four to take its total to 72.50 crore nett in four weeks. HIT

Click opened to a dull response of 10-15%, Toh Baat Pakki was better but still poor at 15-20%. Both films need to pick up over the Saturday and Sunday to have worthwhile collections at the box office.

My Name Is Khan has scored in its first week, even circuits which dropped heavily over weekdays have managed to put up good first week totals. The early estimates for week one are around 45 crore nett. The film will emerge a Hit at worst unless the second week has a huge crash in collections.

Ishqiya takes its three week total to around 22 crore nett. AVERAGE

Ishqiya has decent start; Veer has a great 1st week

Ishqiya opened fairly well in the 50-60% region. The collections at some stations of North India were better than the rest of the country. The reports of the film are also good and it remains to be seen how they translate into box office collections but chances are good it will emerge a success.

Rann opened to a poor response around 15-20%. Rann also has fairly good reports and collections could improve but it will need a huge jump if it is to make any impact at the box office as opening collections are just too low.

Veer has done good first week business of around 32.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The film has been aided hugely by Republic Day holiday after which collections dropped markedly. Due to the first five days the film has managed good first week shares. The 8th day has also seen a drop with multiplexes crashing and although single screens are not as bad as multiplexes they still show a noticeable drop. Veer is a hit in circuits like Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan but overall it is likely to emerge an Average/Above Average fair.

3 Idiots adds another 10.50 crore nett to take its five week total to around 192 crore nett. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER

Ranbir Kapoor is all ‘styles’ in latest edition of MW

0

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, January 22, 2010 – 12:42 IST To start with, one honest confession: We are just sick and tired of listening to the statement that Ranbir Kapoor is the flavour of the season. That’s the reason (and trust us, that is THE REASON) for us to not follow the rest, when it comes to describe the best. That’s why we have twisted the statement as Ranbir Kapoor is the season of the flavour, be it the flavour of love or romance, this man is at it all! Well, if that wasn’t enough, our man Ranbir is on the cover of the latest edition of MW.

In this issue, Ranbir talks about his journey into Bollywood and also the year gone by. He says, “It’s been more than a good year. Not because of the fate of the movies but I worked all year round. I worked everyday. Wake Up Sid was a hit, Ajab Prem… was one of the biggest hits of the year, while Rocket Singh- SOTY is my best work so far, according to me.” For the man who has seen only films and arc lights since childhood, he says, “The reel world is the world I’ve existed in. The outside world is the unreal world.” While on the subject of Bollywood, Ranbir touches upon one of his most awaited films Raajneeti, about which he says “Raajneeti is the first grown up man character I play. Usually, so far, my roles have been that of coming-of-age boy. This film is a political, dark film and it was a complex part!”

Ranbir’s interview in MW’s latest edition surely makes an interesting read.
