Apparently, the success of James Cameron’s Avatar inspired Shirish Kunder, the director
There is a lot on Shirish Kunder’s plate all of a sudden.
Not only is he directing the Hindi remake of south super hit Kick with Salman Khan, he has also decided to turn his Joker into a 3D flick. Apparently, James Cameron’s Avatar inspired Kunder to make his film in 3D.
Our source informs, “Joker will be a big budgeted film in 3D. For the first time a top star like Akshay Kumar will be working in a 3D film. After the success of Avatar, Shirish saw ample of scope to play with visuals in Joker.
That’s why he decided to make the film in 3D. When Kunder suggested this to Akshay, he also loved it and they started working on the pre-production of the film.”
Apparently, there is another reason why Kunder is so excited about Joker; its script was the first one Kunder had ever written. In fact, he wanted to make the film even before Jaan-E-Mann but it didn’t work out.
So he attempted at making it after the release of Jaan-E-Mann but even that failed. Only when Akshay signed the film did things start falling into place.”
When contacted, Kunder confirmed the news but refused to divulge any information about it, “Yes, we are making Joker in 3D and work is in progress.
The film goes on floors in January and it is too early to give out any details.” It’s almost November, Shirish!
Last week, Sallu chose not to invite Kangna to his fashion show. This week, he’s put his film opposite her on hold. Rumour has it that Sonakshi might replace her
Kangna’s dreams of starring with Salman in his home production, what was to be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, have been dashed, at least for the time being. It also points to a larger fallout between the two, said to be close to each other in the recent past.
But not only was Kangna not invited for Sallu’s well-touted ‘Being Human’ show last Saturday, but the superstar has put his home production with her in the female lead on hold indefinitely. The film is a Hindi remake of Manjrekar’s Marathi film Mee Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy.
The only consolation for Ranaut is that she remains a part of the film, at least for now. “The script is undergoing some changes. Moreover, a few other members of the cast have also been changed. Salman himself is supervising the details,” says the source.
Another reason why Manjrekar’s film co-starring Ranaut is not Salman’s first priority at present is that Salman is going to be very busy with the TV show Bigg Boss 4 and two films, Kick and Bodyguard. “Both Kick and Bodyguard are very big films and Salman is not going to let his fans down,” said the source.
What makes this doubly awkward for Kangna is the buzz that Sonakshi Sinha might replace her in this film.
When contacted, Manjrekar did not confirm that Ranaut stars in his film for Salman. He simply said, “At the moment, I am not in Mumbai. Dekhte hain kab shuru karenge meri film. Why can’t it be that Kangna stars in the film? It’s not Sonakshi, but then, at the end of the day, it is up to Salman to decide and divulge.”
We know for a fact that Kangna has not even been informed of this delay. But our source was quite clear that Sallu’s next with her in on the backburner. A close friend of Kangna’s said, “She really does not wish to comment on any of this.”
We understand. Need time to nurse your wounds, Kangs?

Just a day before the release of his first film with Sonakshi Sinha, Salman Khan has signed another film with the much talked-about debutante.
On Thursday afternoon, producer Sajid Nadiadwala drove down to the Sinhas’ bungalow to sign Sonakshi opposite Salman in the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster Kick which Shirish Kunder will be directing for Nadiadwala.
Salman was not only keen to sign Kunder as director, he strongly recommended Sonakshi for the female lead which Ileana had performed in the Telugu original.
Confirming the news, Sajid Nadiadwala says, “It was Salman who was very keen that I sign Sonakshi opposite him in Kick remake. I became a hundred percent sure of her after I saw her in Dabangg. She and Salman make a great pair. I am very happy to be working with Shatruji’s daughter. He has worked extensively for my banner. In fact I’ve a picture at home with Shatruji when he was shooting for our banner in Bhai Ho To Aisa. I was 6 at that time.”
Says Sajid emotionally, “This is the first time I’ve gone to someone’s house to sign an actor. Everyone comes to my office. But Sonakshi is Shatrughan Sinhaji’s daughter.”
Adds Shatughan Sinha, “I told Sonakshi that I’ve worked with Sajid’s grandfather and father. Now it’s her turn to continue the tradition. God willing my sons too will work with Sajid.”
The remake Kick-starts this winter.
Incidentally, this is Sonakshi’s third film with Salman. She is already doing the sequel to Dabangg with the star.
Priyadarshan’s Khatta Meetha starring Akshay Kumar and the south actress Trisha, is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam original Vellanakalude Nadu.
While Urvashi Sharma plays a significant role in the film, she’s upset at being kept out of its promotions. Apparently, she plays the same role in the film that Priyadarshan’s wife Lakshmi played in the Malayalam original, 22 years ago.
A source from the unit reveals, “Urvashi plays a student in the film. It is an important role. She holds Priyadarshan in high esteem and didn’t think twice before taking up the role. Priyadarshan told her that his wife did the role when she was a superstar and didn’t regret it. Urvashi is upset as she’s been kept out of its promotions.
She is not even visible in any of its posters.”
When contacted Urvashi said, “It is Priyan sir’s call. I do not interfere in any creative decisions. I am there in the film and I have an important role, that’s all I can say.”
Since Kajol is pregnant and will be unable to travel, only Kareena will promote We Are Family
While the film will have both women sharing responsibilities, Karan Johar’s next We Are Family, will have only Kareena Kapoor and not Kajol touring the country for promotions. That’s because Kajol is expecting her second baby and will be in no position to travel so much at that time.
The film, which is thew Hindi remake of the Susan Sarandon starrer Stepmom, will release on Eid, this September. Unfortunately, for Karan Johar and Dharma Productions, Kajol will be unavailable around that time for a major part of the promotions.
Our source said, “UTV and Dharma Productions are planning different marketing strategies for the promotions because Kajol won’t be available. Kareena will have to go for all the city tours that the team plans. It is unfair to ask Kajol to travel and promote the film as she is expecting. Kareena is helping in her absence by giving out bulk dates. Kareena has told Karan that she will be available for all the promotional activities. The film is very close to her heart.”
When contacted, Siddarth Malhotra, the director of the film said, “Yes the film is releasing on Eid. It is everybody’s film and all the actors would be present whenever they are available. Expecting Kajol to travel everywhere is asking a bit too much.”

Asin Thottumkal recently had a fallout with one of her close aides. And was reportedly in tears because this person came out and told the world that John Abraham had snubbed the Ghajini actress by asking for a change of heroine in Vipul Shah’s KhaKha KhaKha. Here’s the story doing the rounds. Asin was to be the romantic lead in the Hindi remake of this South film opposite John. The film has shades of Ghajini… but is different. However, there is a sense of deja vu because both films have strong romantic angles despite being thrilling, fast-paced, action flicks.
Vipul, who is fond of Asin (she was the leading lady of his London Dreams), wanted her in KhaKha KhaKha opposite John. But there was a little re-thinking done.
John did not snub the talented Asin nor was it his decision to romance some other heroine in the film. And this would have remained an inside secret. However, a disgruntled person from Asin’s side reportedly let the cat out of the bag. Talk is that the rumours had Asin close to tears. Vipul maintains that she is out of his film because she’s busy doing Anees Bazmee’s Ready opposite Salman Khan. But Asin is hurt with the turn of events.
John Abraham, who has just 10 days to metamorphose from a beefy cop to a chiselled beach boy, admits it’s a health hazard
For a model turned actor, John Abraham has always understood the difference a great body can make to screen presence — it’s what helped him evolve into a fitness icon.
But now the hunk will have to push his limits to achieve the different body structure he needs for two back-to-back films — Vipul Shah’s Hindi remake of South superhit Khaka Khaka and Dostana 2.
While John is required to sport a beefy look in Vipul Shah’s film, he needs to flaunt a perfectly chiselled body in the other.
Our source said, “John is playing a tough narcotics officer in the Nishikant Kamath-directed remake of Khaka Khaka, and he needs to bulk up his body for that. But after shooting a month-long schedule, he starts filming for Dostana 2 around July 20, so he has hardly ten days to get into his Dostana look.
John’s toned body had become a talking point in the first edition of Dostana and everyone expects an encore in Dostana 2. John is currently working out everyday from 9 in the morning to noon with a trainer in Bandra to achieve a beefier body.
He is also following a special diet and makes it a point to sleep early so that his body gets enough rest. He has already put on around eight kilos and will have a really tough time shedding all that weight in the ten days he’ll get before the shoot of Dostana 2 starts.
He has a second trainer to help him lose weight, who is already part of John’s training to ensure the actor doesn’t go overboard while bulking up for Khakha Khakha. It’s a dangerous tightrope walk for John.”
Said John, “I need one kind of look for the tough cop I am playing in the Khaka Khaka remake and a very chilled out beach body in Dostana 2. I am working towards peaking in the first look around June 20, after which I shall be working to get into the second look. It’s tough and perhaps not very healthy to make such a quick transition, but I am shooting back-to-back and I have no option.”
Ever since their film Agent Vinod got delayed, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor have been scouting around for a suitable film to do together. Now a major project has fallen into their lap which seems just tailor- made for them. Fox Star Studios has approached the couple to star in a Hindi remake of the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight and Day.
The meeting in question happened few days back at a suburban five star hotel. A source reveals, “Saif was keen to do the remake of a Hollywood film for quite some time and was already in talks with the production house. The production house held a screening of Knight and Day and both Saif and Kareena liked the film because its genre, action-comedy, was just what they were looking for. It’s a fast paced movie with lots of action.” The off-screen couple were last seen on-screen together in Kurbaan.
While Kareena remained unavailable for comment, Saif says,“We meet various people in the office – that’s what a production house does. But Kareena and I have not met Fox Star together for a film.”
But a source close to Fox Star says, “Yes, a meeting was called with Saif and Kareena.”
Abhishek Bachchan believes in concentrating on his acting career and taking care of the family business at the same time.
In what could be called a smart business decision, news has it that post Paa, which was co-produced by the their production house AB Corp, the Bachchans have decided that most films starring Abhishek will be either distributed or co-produced by AB Corp. Interestingly, this year marks the beginning of one of the most hectic work phases in Abhishek’s life.
|Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan|
According to trade sources, Saraswati Creations, which too is Bachchans’ in-house banner, reportedly has a stake in Mani Ratnam’s Raavana to release on June 18 this year. The film is being presented by Reliance Big Entertainment and is co-produced by Mani Ratnam.
Abbas Mustan’s Hindi remake of The Italian Job, produced by Studio 18 with Abhishek in the lead will also be distributed overseas by AB Corp. It is being said that even in the case of Goldie Behl’s next, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Abhishek, the Bachchans are the stake holders.
In other words, with the exception perhaps of Karan Johar’s Dostana 2 and Excel Entertainment’s Crooked produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, AB Corp will own either full or part stakes in most of Abhishek’s films.
Considering that Guru established Abhishek’s equity as a star, it isn’t surprising that the production house has come up with this strategy. Incidentally, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar have been doing the same for a while. They have been keeping a territory of their films (either overseas or Mumbai/Delhi) and in some cases they even own a stake in the Intellectual Property Rights.
A trade source said, “Even during Paa, it was Abhishek who took most of the major business decisions including curtailing costs. Now his home banner has decided to acquire the rights of his films either for satellite/overseas distribution or even on a partnership basis.’’
When asked about whether AB Corp would indeed buy most of Abhishek’s movies or hold a stake in it, Amitabh Bachchan said, “No, not necessarily.”
Trade pundits however say that AB Corp is keeping its doors open to acquiring part or full rights of most future films starring Abhishek.
Abhishek Bachchan, who turns 34 today, is on a roll this year…
MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; February 5, 2010)
When you’re Abhishek Bachchan, the scion of the most prestigious film family, then there is very little you can ask for on your birthday. With Mani Ratnam’s Guru, the actor came into his own, getting even Bollywood’s biggest legend Amitabh Bachchan to endorse his talent. And though some films in between put him on a see-saw, R Balki’s Paa once again brought to light the fact that despite sharing screen space with his father, in what is an award-winning performance for the Big B, AB Junior can very well hold his own.
This year could be the culmination of all these years of ups and downs for the actor. He gets into the most eventful phase of his career. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Crooked, Karan Johar’s Dostana-2, Abbas Mustan’s The Italian Job (Hindi remake), Anurag Basu’s next, and, Rohan Sippy’s untitled venture are five of the films that go on the floor this year with Abhishek in the lead. And on June 18, Raavana — Mani Ratnam’s most ambitious venture so far, with AB Jr as the protagonist, will open to a global audience.
When asked how he had suddenly become so prolific, Abhishek who has a great sense of humour says, “I haven’t mastered the art of doing one film at a time.’’ The actor feels he is blessed (yes he couldn’t ask for a more rocking birthday gift) because suddenly his life and career are zooming. His television debut was better received than many other superstar smallscreen acts; and what is more, even in Bollywood, he has found a definite spot for himself. “I’m truly fortunate that I can mix and match my genre of cinema,’’ says the actor. “If Crooked is a thriller, Raavan a sociodrama and Dostana-2 a comedy, then it only means that I can fit into cross-genre cinema with ease. I’m truly happy that I’ll be working round the clock for the next couple of years. And more importantly, I will be doing cinema that I believe in.”
At 34, Abhishek is a decade younger than the ruling Khans, that also means he has the advantage of age on his side. Whether in his acting style or his positioning in the Bollywood hierarchy, the actor sees himself “competing only with himself’’ and the endeavour is to constantly strive to do better work. “Good box office is gratifying of course, but good work is equally gratifying,’’ he says.
And asked if there is anything in particular he may still want on this birthday, the actor says, “I’d like to do more work with my wife Aishwarya. The advantage of working with Ash is that the two of us get to make a good film together (Guru, Sarkar Raj, Raavan) and on the personal front, I also get time to spend with my wife.’’ Well, with one of the world’s most beautiful women more than willing to comply with Abhishek’s wishes, there is very little anyone else can offer him. He is truly blessed.
