Why Aishwarya Rai Bachchan refused to do Happy New Year
0Upala KBR (DNA; May 3, 2013)
The hunt for the lead actress to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in his next home production Happy New Year is on. The last actress approached for the role was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Farah Khan was very excited about this pair because they haven’t been seen together since Devdas (2002). Also, Ash’s next film is highly awaited since her maternity break. Her next announcement would have added excitement to the project, rather other obvious choices like Kareena Kapoor, who was in Khan’s last production or Deepika Padukone who is working in his current home production Chennai Express. He has also been paired with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma last year for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, so the choices are limited. ARB would have been perfect for the part.
Says a source close to the actress, “Yes, the film was offered to Aishwarya, and ideally she might have considered it, but the film also stars her hubby Abhishek Bachchan, and he isn’t paired opposite her. That was her reservation. She believes that if they come together in a film, they should be paired opposite each other, else the audience might reject the film.”
SRK to leave for London to get his right shoulder operated?
0Upala KBR (DNA; May 1, 2013)
Shah Rukh Khan will be going under the knife again. The actor will have the surgery on his right shoulder in London, post the completion of Chennai Express and IPL, in July.
Says a source, “Shah Rukh has been shooting high octane action sequences for Chennai Express which has taken a toll on his shoulders, especially his right one. His left shoulder is already weak as he had a minimally invasive surgery at the Breach Candy Hospital a couple of years ago. The right shoulder got aggravated with time as pressure was put on it in the past few months. The pain became much worse after Shah Rukh, who loves doing all kinds of stunts for his events, performed at an award show recently. SRK is just waiting for the last schedule of CE to wrap up, and then he will leave for London with his family. After his operation, Shah Rukh will be completely confined to his bed for a month before he can take on any physical activity.” Post his recuperation, he starts shooting for Happy New Year directed by Farah Khan.
Shah Rukh is currently being treated by Dr Sanjay Desai, who had operated on his left shoulder in 2011. Dr Desai is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in India, who has the credit of bringing world-class arthroscopic shoulder surgery to India. An insider reveals, “Depending on the condition of SRK’s shoulder Dr Desai may operate it in Mumbai but if he can travel, he will go to London.”

SRK-Aishwarya together, in Happy New Year?
0Aakanksha Naval-Shetye (DNA; April 5, 2013)
They were a dream pair in Devdas, but despite a thumbs up at the box-office, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan were not seen on screen together. But according to the industry buzz, the pair may come together for Happy New Year, directed by Farah Khan. While the name of almost every actress has been tossed around, the film’s leading lady has not yet been finalised. Sources now say that Ash is on Farah’s mind. Whether Ash has been formally offered the film or not, the pairing is bound to make it one of the most-looked-forward-to films for sure. After all, apart from being Ash’s first film post motherhood, it’s the return of SRK and Farah again.
Meanwhile…. It is learnt that Farah has cast south actor Prithviraj (last seen in Aiyya) in the role that was originally offered to John Abraham.
SRK’s Happy New Year to be filmed in Dubai?
0Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 26, 2013)
Shah Rukh Khan, who enjoys a special relationship with Dubai, has booked a lion’s share of one of the most lavish resorts there for over a month. Not for pleasure, but strictly for business. We hear one of the most important scenes of Happy New Year will be shot there sometime in August. Shah Rukh owns a villa in Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis, and the place where the Happy New Year crew will be stationed for the expensive scene, is close to his home away from home.
A source told Mumbai Mirror, “While Farah has been busy finalising the leading lady, her other crew members have already finalised some of the places where the film with five male and one female lead, will be shot. This underwater resort is where an important sequence of the film is shot.”
Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies is currently gearing up for the IPL opening ceremony and the actor, who is currently camped at Wai, shooting for Chennai Express, is closely involved with HNY as well.
A source added, “The stage is set. Thanks to SRK’s great rapport with Dubai, team Happy New Year will have exclusive access to the property. What Mission Impossible did to Burj Khalifa, HNY will do to this resort.”
Has Priyanka Chopra chosen Ekta Kapoor over SRK?
0Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; February 28, 2013)
Trade reports say Priyanka Chopra was meant to be allotting dates later this year to either Shah Rukh Khan’s home-production Happy New Year or to Ekta Kapoor’s Milan Talkies. Both films are going to be on the floors almost back-to-back.
At this point, PC is one of the busiest girls. She has to complete Zanjeer, Gunday, the biopic on Mary Kom and then move to one other film. Earlier it was being speculated that Priyanka would choose Happy New Year and a few trade reports hinted at this possibility a few months ago. However, now news has it that PC has given Ekta a go-ahead to shoot Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies with Imran Khan from early September this year. So SRK’s home production will feature another girl in the lead along with Shah Rukh and Abhishek Bachchan.
After John, Dev, now Ayushmann turns down Happy New Year?
1Kunal M Shah (MID-DAY; February 22, 2013)
Farah Khan’s upcoming film seems to be competing in an obstacle race. After roping in Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, the choreographer-turned-director looks to be meeting a dead end every time when it comes to casting the fourth actor for her film.
After John Abraham and Dev Patel turned Farah down, buzz is that even the one-release-old Ayushmann Khurrana, has given her the ultimate snub by declining the project. Sources say that the newbie apparently does not want to be part of a multi-starrer.
Our source informs, “The film has four lead actors and SRK is playing the lead role. Apart from that Abhishek Bachchan is already part of the film. Farah recently signed on Prithviraj for the film. However, the last male actor still remains elusive. Now Farah is thinking of casting a newcomer.”
According to the insiders, Farah had earlier spoken to John, who had date problems, post which she apparently spoke to Dev.
The source adds, “Dev was not keen to do commercial films and he politely declined the offer. Farah then spoke to Ayushmann. He did not wish to do multi- starrers, considering he is doing two solo lead roles.” John had earlier told HitList, “ Farah’s dates coincide with the ones I have given to another producer.
There is no point in stretching my schedule and I had to say no.” However, both Farah and Ayushmann denied the buzz.

Shah Rukh Khan on a break, scripts his future?
1The actor who has taken time off from Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express, has reportedly been looking at several new projects, including Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3
Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 8, 2013)
What’s in the air at Mannat? From the sounds of it, Don 3 and may be Rohit Shetty’s next, which Shah Rukh has reportedly taken a shine to.
Mirror has learnt that SRK, who is on a short break from Chennai Express right now, has had several meetings with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, to firm up the fine print for the third instalment of the slick and commercially successful franchise. Meanwhile, in a recent interview, SRK also lavished praises on Rohit Shetty, saying how much he has enjoyed working with him for Chennai Express. “We are looking at two more scripts,” he said, indicating that he may work with the filmmaker soon again.
So where does that put the other keenly awaited SRK-starrer? According to sources, SRK has been taking his time over Happy New Year, to be directed by Farah Khan and produced by SRK’s Red Chillies. “SRK was supposed to help Farah finalise the casting for her film. It was expected that Farah will announce the name of her heroine – there has been quite a bit of speculation on who that is – at the beginning of the year. But no one, except Abhishek Bachchan and SRK, have been finalised for the four-hero project yet,” said a source.
In fact, the script for Happy New Year has been locked, and songs are also about to be recorded, but with the More >
No happy new year for Dev Patel?
0MID-DAY (January 22, 2013)
He may have played the protagonist in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire but Dev Patel is more known for being Freida Pinto’s boyfriend. A birdie chirped to say that the British-born had almost signed an Indian film on his recent trip to the country.
Sources say Dev was offered Farah Khan’s Happy New Year but the actor turned the director down. Apparently, Dev wants to do offbeat cinema and wants to steer clear of commercial films.
Well, all we can say is that something is better than nothing, no?
Why Farah Khan had SRK in her birthday wish…
0Jigar Shah (MID-DAY; January 10, 2013)
Farah Khan turned a year older yesterday and had an interesting birthday wish. The choreographer-turned-director apparently wants Rohit Shetty to wrap up his upcoming film Chennai Express so that she can start hers, Happy New Year. Reason: Shah Rukh Khan is part of both the projects.
And only after Rohit releases him can he start his shoot with Farah. SRK has a distinct look in Farah’s film and will apparently require some time to slip into his character.
Farah says, “Shah Rukh needs a break of at least two to three weeks post which he will start my film.”
I don’t want to be a factory-Farah Khan
0Farah Khan, who turns a year older today, talks about being selective about films; also reveals her equations in the industry
Aakanksha Naval-Shetye (DNA; January 9, 2013)
Filmmaker Farah Khan may be turning a year older today, but while she admits to be growing wiser, she says that she is actually feeling younger than her age. “I feel that I have really started living now. The last 21 years in the industry since I started off with Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander have been only hard work and I slogged off like crazy, but it is today that I am reaping the benefits. Back then, I never cared about the results, I just worked. So, post-40 is when I am enjoying everything that others would have at 20,” she says. Excited about starting her third directorial venture Happy New Year, she reveals that she is waiting for Shah Rukh Khan to finish Chennai Express. “I am ready to shoot it tomorrow, I am that prepared. But Shah Rukh has to finish his film with Rohit (director Rohit Shetty) and then we will probably start in April or May.” As for the buzz around the casting for the film, putting all rumours to rest, she says, “We have a few names in mind for the leading lady opposite Shah Rukh, but no one has been finalised yet. The leads apart, it’s a huge cast, so there are many other names in the running too, and we will be announcing them as soon as everyone signs on the dotted lines.”
But what about acting? “No. One film (Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi) last year was enough for me. In fact, More >
