FENIL’S HALF YEARLY AWARDS 2012-RESULTS!

3

Finally the results are out! It’s a pleasure to announce that Fenil’s Half Yearly Awards is getting bigger and bigger as each year passes. I did expect that there would be an increase in the number of voters this year. Yet, I was highly and pleasantly surprised! Sunday August 26 (the day voting began) and Monday august 27 saw a record number of people thronging this website to vote for their favourite artists and films. This was certainly unprecedented! A bigggg thank you to all the people who took out time to vote and to also recommend to their movie buff friends, colleagues and acquaintances!

Now to the results! A lot of voters complained that it was very difficult to vote for just a single nominee in many categories. Well, I take this as an indication of an increase in good quality cinema this year from Bollywood! The first six months of 2012 saw some pretty interesting films coming out and thankfully getting commercial success as well. Coming back to the awards, it was an unpredictable situation in certain categories and the clear winner was difficult to anticipate till the last day! In few categories, though, the winner was clear. What’s more, a record was created by none other than the outstanding performer Vidya Balan for bagging as many as 77.58% of total number of votes – the highest %age of votes anyone has ever won in the past 4 years! A well deserved victory indeed! Annu Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana too create record for winning in more than category, both for More >

After the super-successful Half-Yearly Awards 2009, 2010 and 2011, we are back this year! All those who came late, here’s a brief idea of this concept: through this initiative, we’ll take into account all the films that released in the first 6 months of the year (Jan to June). 2 reasons for doing this – one, during the awards season, films released throughout the year are considered and hence due to the huge number of movies, many interesting and deserving films get left out (at times, deliberately). And secondly, people are losing trust from the so-called awards and are increasingly seen as rigged. However, FENIL’S HALF YEARLY AWARDS gives you a chance to vote for your favourites and give them the appreciation and honour which they rightfully deserve!

We have progressed and introduced 2 new changes. Firstly, a jury of 5 esteemed people has decided upon the nominations. These are movie buffs Shalu Dhyani, Nishant Jha, Akashdeep Saxena, yours truly Fenil Seta and last but not the least, well-known movie critic Joginder Tuteja! Secondly, with the advent of so many item songs, we have started a new category of ‘Best Item Girl(s)’!

So, all you guys, start voting and help to choose the right winners! It won’t even take more than 2 minutes! Hurry Up! Voting closes on Sunday, September 2 at 9 am IST. Results will be announced on Monday September 3! And let all your moviegoing friends/family members/relatives/acquaintances know about these awards! I want this year’s edition to be More >

FENIL’S HALF YEARLY AWARDS 2011-RESULTS!

Finally the results are out. As I had hoped, the 3rd edition of Fenil’s Half Yearly Awards has turned out to be much bigger than the previous two years. There was a huge increase in the number of voters which really came as a surprise. Nice to see that all my friends took out time to vote and also recommended to their near and dear ones! And damn glad to see members from the popular website Naachgaana too dropping by to cast their vote!

Now to the results! An interesting trend seen this year was that there was a clear division among the voters regarding their choice. Meaning, almost everyone got to extent equal number of votes and hence, till the last date, it was difficult to predict who will triumph. In fact, in certain categories, few lost by just one single vote! Such close shave among the nominees wasn’t seen before. What’s more, it threw up some nice surprises which you’ll come to know as you check the results:

Best Film NO ONE KILLED JESSICA With 27% votes, the Rani Mukherjee-Vidya Balan starrer was ahead from Day 1. It got stiff competition from Shaitan (24%) but it lost by 4 votes. The biggest hit of 2011 till date, Ready, along with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, came third with 18% votes. Yeh Saali Zindagi and Shor In the City didn’t find much patronage.

Best Director RAJ KUMAR GUPTA (No One Killed Jessica) & AMOLE GUPTE (Stanley Ka Dabba) For the first time ever, we haev a tie! Till yesterday evening, Amole Gupte was the sole winner but soon Gupta too joined him to be More >

The results are finally out! I was pleasantly surprised to see more than hundred votes in each category! Good to see that people took out time to vote and even for recommending their friends to do the same! Thanks a ton guys!

The results of the awards are of utmost significance as it is the ‘aam aadmi’s choice’, and not that of any jury. Below are the results:

Best Film NEW YORK Kabir Khan’s film on terrorism managed to get the highest votes in this category. Dev D could have won if it had received some more votes. Surprisingly, even a film like 99 bagged many votes! Luck By Chance, Gulaal and Firaaq unfortunately lagged behind.

Best Director ANURAG KASHYAP (Dev D) Kashyap’s modern take on Devdas impressed the audiences and bagged this award. New York came 2nd and even Kashyap’s Gulaal bagged quite a many votes and stood 3rd. Congrats to Anurag!

Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) ABHAY DEOL (Dev D) The talented actor got as many as 65% votes which speak volumes of Abhay Deol’s mind blowing performance in Dev D! John Abraham also bagged quite a many votes, proving that people do consider him as a good actor! Farhan Akhtar (Luck By Chance) and Irrfan Khan (Billu) got quite low votes. And as for the remaining two contenders, R Madhavan (13B) and Akshay Kumar (8×10 Tasveer), the less said, the better!

Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female) KONKONA SEN SHARMA (Luck By Chance) Now this was a surprise! I expected Katrina (New York) or Kangna (Raaz) to bag the maximum votes! More >
