RAAT GAYI… director defends 31st Dec release

By JOGINDER TUTEJA (GLAMSHAM.COM)

RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI

RAAT GAYI BAAT GAYI releases on the last day of the year, 31st December. If this wasn’t surprising enough, the fact is that the date also falls on a Thursday. Wait, there is more. There are two more films slated for release on the same day – ACCIDENT ON HILL ROAD and BOLO RAAM, hence adding on to the crowd. Moreover, there is this entire 3 IDIOTS euphoria which is expected to spill over well into the second week. With so much happening around the release of this Neha Dhupia, Rajat Kapoor and Vinay Pathak starrer, was it a justified decision to arrive on this day?

“Yes, coming on 31st December is a very good decision”, says director Saurabh Shukla who has earlier made MUDDA – THE ISSUE and CHEHRA, “I will give you two reasons for that. First and foremost the film is actually about a party. Since it would be party mood for all on 31st Dec and 1st January, the story in the film fits in perfectly well with real life too.”

He goes on to explain the second reason. “Those who may not catch it on 31st December night would want to do so on the next day since it’s a holiday. And that’s because after 31st December hangover, there are only two ways to fight it. One is to drink again and another is to actually go for a movie. This is why our suggestion is ‘Why to drink again when you can have some good time in theaters while watching a movie?’

LOVE AAJ KAL and KURBAAN

LOVE AAJ KAL has completed 50 days at the box office and in the process has netted more than Rs. 65 crores just from India. Post the celebrations, the film’s producer and lead actor Saif Ali Khan is having a new vision for his career going forward. He is looking at doing fewer films while mixing bona fide wide canvas commercial films along with one small film a year.

“That’s the kind of game plan I am looking at building for myself from here on”, says Saif who took off for a US and Europe vacation with Kareena Kapoor soon after LOVE AAJ KAL was declared a super success, “I would now be working on 2-3 films a year and make sure that I cover a wide spectrum. While a couple of them would be big nice commercial films, another would be a relatively smaller film which can be completed in 30 days flat.”

Once back from vacation, Saif Ali Khan has participated in a couple of ad shoots. However, shooting for his next film AGENT VINOD is still a little distance away.

“Final touches on the script are being given and we have been looking at getting the best technicians on board. I guess by end of this year, we should begin shooting”, says Saif, “In any case I am in no tearing hurry to ready my next film. One should space things out, invest good time to publicize things and get the right preparation in place for the making of the film.”

KAMINEY

His latest ‘Dhan Te Nan’ might have taken the industry by storm. But, it seems Vishal Bhardwaj is deeply disappointed at the attitude of the censor board that allotted his film an A certificate.

The maverick director says that his latest film has been given an unfair treatment by the censor board while some of the most violent films have been granted U/A certificate in the past.

Talking about his resentment at the press meet of the film, Vishal says, “I was quite disappointed when KAMINEY was given an adult certificate while the fact remains that we have tried to be responsible and have made sure not have scenes or dialogues that would go against the public sentiment. But, it seems the censor board has its own impression of my cinema and it was difficult to convince them about KAMINEY. I agree that my film showcases violence, but its something much more toned down than what we have seen on the silver screen earlier.”

He further adds, “The fact that my film is titled KAMINEY makes people think it is not a family film at all. But, let me make it clear, we have removed all such portions from the film that were not fit to be seen with the family, even after making these changes I am still granted an A certificate which is really hard to digest,” he ends.

The film which stars Shahid Kapoor in a double role promises to be a hit fare with the audiences and is all set to release on More >
