Tanvi Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; March 6, 2012)
R Madhavan, in an informal chat, tells BT about how he makes his presence felt even in multi-starrer films, his choice of B-Town flicks, why February has been a lucky month for him and lots more…
You have worked with the likes of Mani Ratnam, Kamal Haasan, Raju Hirani and actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. Is it a conscious decision to continue working with such biggies? I have done my bit of working with the biggies of Indian cinema. I have gained from working with them. It was a pleasure and a great learning experience. But as a 44-year old actor, don’t you feel I should be coming out of those kind of films and creating a different space for myself ? I want to get out of working in typical commercial Hindi film projects and do roles that will expand my horizons. I need to establish myself in a more challenging space and do roles that I haven’t done before.

We had the last function on January 17. 18th was the travel date and from 19th onwards I’ve been shooting. It is a really hectic time since I’m rushing to finish two films.
Is your bride not complaining?
Eight-and-a-half years into the relationship she knows how I am.
Has marriage changed anything at all?
I don’t know how to say this without sounding cheesy. Somewhere something clicks and you feel, ‘okay now I am a man’. Something happens. My feelings for Avantika were always the same. My closeness to her family is the same. Right now, you and I, are sitting in her mother’s house. Yet within a couple of days after the wedding, something clicked and I felt ‘I’m responsible for this person.’
What happens to the romance after marriage?
I’m not one for the classic notions of romance. I’m a great believer More >
