Gaurav Chopra files police complaint against Jeetandra, his wife and others, claiming he was threatened with false police cases for reporting ‘malpractices’

Abhijit Sathe (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 14, 2013)

The man who oversaw Balaji Telefilms’s finances between 2009 and 2012 lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Crime Branch days ago against the firm’s promoters Jeetendra, his wife Shobha and others for threatening to implicate him in false cases after he allegedly unearthed malpractices in the firm.

Gaurav Chopra, a chartered accoutant and chartered management accountant, who worked as financial controller at Balaji Telefilms, lodged his complaint with Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy, alleging that Jeetendra Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and other staffers at Balaji were harassing him by withholding his pay, threatening to file false police complaints against him and forcing him to resign from the company.

JCP Roy confirmed that his office had received a complaint from Chopra and that the matter was being probed.

Chopra says he joined Balaji Telefilms on September 10, 2009 as financial controller. He says the company was impressed by his performance and gave him a substantial pay hike on completing a year there. However, Chopra claims, during his association with Balaji Telefilms, he got to know about alleged “unprofessional and illegal dealings, unfair labour practices and high-handed attitude of the management”, to which he objected.

I don’t believe in being friends with my ex-Mouni Roy

TV actress Mouni Roy fields questions on her ex Gaurav Chopra, budding friendship with co-star Mohit ‘Mahadev’ Raina and her new character, Meera

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; November 17, 2012)

You were all set to tie the knot with Gaurav Chopra. What went wrong? I don’t want to talk about my personal life. It’s nobody’s business.

Do you think you can be friends with your ex? No, I don’t believe in being friends with my ex.

So, what does it take to sweep you off your feet? The guy has to be suave, well-spoken and must have a great personality. He must be fairly well-to-do. I really believe in the concept of ‘your money is my money and my money is also my money’. At some point in life, I would want to quit working.

Devon Ke Dev Mahadev is the only show as prominent as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. What went wrong after Kyunki…? I was eighteen-and-a-half when I did Kyunki…and when you are that young, you don’t understand certain things. I felt burdened at that time. Sometimes, I feel I could have done two to three more shows, but I wouldn’t be what I am. When I recall my Kyunki… days, I wonder what I was thinking then. I just couldn’t keep up with the erratic shooting schedule. I kept refusing daily soaps for almost eight months. I even declined Devon…. I was sceptical, as it was a mythological show. I didn’t want to get typecast, but my producers Suhana and Nikhil Sinha were persistent and I agreed eventually.

Happy with my man. Why do we need the tag of marriage?-Narayani Shastri

Actress Narayani Shastri minces no words as she talks about love, life and playing mother to a grown-up girl in a show,

Roshni K Olivera (BOMBAY TIMES; August 4, 2012)

You have gained a lot of weight… Actually after my last serial Namak Haram, I wasn’t working. I didn’t want to do a less meaty role because it would be walking backwards. When I’m not working, it’s vacation time for me and so I was eating, drinking and making merry. I had just come back from a holiday when I got this role in Phir Subah Hogi which I really liked. If I had to play a hot model in it, I would’ve hit the gym and lost all the extra kilos. But since I play a mother, I felt the weight went well with my character. I didn’t want to look the same age as my onscreen daughter. There was no insecurity there. I believe that if you are playing a mother you should like one. Yes, at the moment I have lost weight, and that’s because our characters are well established today.

After this show, you might get offered only mother’s roles… I don’t think so. You typecast yourself by choosing similar roles. After this, choosing a mother’s role would be the easiest thing for me to do. But I will not take up something unless it’s a role that I really want to do. I’d rather not work in that case.

TV stars bag one good role and then can be without work for a year or two… I have always been offered work, but I genuinely didn’t want to do a saas-bahu serial. I’d done shows focusing on kitchen politics and wanted to More >

The late filmmaker’s son Karan Raj Kanwar, who is all of 20, revives his dad’s dream, launches Lucky Kabootar

Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 31, 2012)

Those who thought the demise of well known writer-producer-director Raj Kanwar in February this year meant the end of his banner Inderjit Films Combine can think again.

Mirror has learnt his elder son Karan Raj Kanwar, who is just 20, is all set to revive his late father’s venture.

Karan confirmed the news and said, “Though I assisted my father during the making of his last film, Sadiyaan, production has always been my passion. So my father decided to send me to Los Angeles to do a course in film production. Before my father’s demise, he was working on this script and was very excited about it. He had also selected the songs for it. When he passed away, I decided not only to fulfill his dream to make this film, but also to keep his banner alive.”

Karan said he decided to go for fresh faces for his film as the script demanded so. “I firmly believe if your script is good and you make a good film, people will support it. I intend to produce lot of films in the near future, ones with big stars as well but script is all important,” he added.

It is learnt, the romcom titled Lucky Kabootar, will feature television actor Gaurav Chopra of Uttaran fame and Kulraj Randhawa and Shraddha Das from Dil to Bachcha Hai Ji in the lead. It will be directed by Shammi Chhabaria, who was Karan’s father’s chief associate and had worked More >

SRK’s new reality show is proving physically challenging to participants

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 19, 2010)

Shah Rukh Khan’s forthcoming TV reality show being made in Argentina, has apparently sent some key contestants packing. No, they haven’t been eliminated. In this version of the hit international series Wipeout (also made in Argentina), the Indian participants play on till the end. But SRK’s players, it is learned, have been rendered hors de combat by the exciting reality competition featuring various obstacle courses. Payal Rohatgi, Gaurav Chopra and Akash Deep Saigal are among those counted injured.

Payal and Gaurav have returned to Mumbai to lick their wounds; she, it is believed, suffered a hairline fracture on the hand and he pulled a muscle. Five others are said to be nursing niggling injuries but are valiantly going ahead with the show. Fortunately, the contestants are covered in case there is an injury. And the injured can come back as wild card entries. Gaurav, apparently, is keen on doing so, though Payal seems doubtful of returning. The actress, keeping the existing contract in mind, declined to talk about the show; but Gaurav gave it full marks. “It was unfortunate what happened. It is a physically challenging show. Safety precautions are in place but accidents are bound to happen,” he said.

Akash Deep, however, who is also on the injured list and been advised to return home, is said to be More >

Before SRK agreed to host Wipeout, a water-based TV show, Pataudi Jr was apparently offered the role

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 14, 2010)

Bet you didn’t know this. And we wonder if Shah Rukh Khan knew it either. Rumour has it that Saif Ali Khan was the first choice of for hosting Wipeout, a water-based adventure sports show on television, not Shah Rukh Khan.

Wipeout is based on an American game show about various kinds of obstacle related to water and has so far been formatted for over 30 other countries. Now it’s going to make its debut in India.

The Indian television industry people claim that the channel in question was speaking to Saif about this show for the longest time. Says a source, “However, Saif could not make up his mind. He was a bit skeptical about acting in a TV show.”

So the channel complied with Saif’s decision (indecision rather) and waited patiently for another host.

After sometime when the channel people realised that Saif did not seem very keen on the offer, they apparently spoke to SRK. Reveals the source, “Shah Rukh grabbed the opportunity. He loved the concept of the show.”

The channel, we hear, is very happy that SRK is now hosting Wipeout. Adds the source, “SRK brings a lot of energy on the table. But the channel would definitely love to work with Saif in future.”

Seemingly unaware, Samir Nair, the channel’s head honcho, says, “Really? I don’t know about this.”

The superstar will host the Indian version of American television series Wipeout

Bharati Dubey (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 09, 2010)

Akki, Madhuri and the Big B have company on the small screen. After a gap of three years, Shah Rukh Khan will return to television. But this time on a different channel with a different show. SRK will be hosting the Indian version of Wipeout, an American show.

According to highly placed sources, the pre-production of the show has already begun and the actor will soon start shooting for the promo. Since Wipeout’s format is water-based adventure sports, contestants will be flying to Argentina to shoot for it. “This show has been aired in 22 countries and all episodes have been shot in Argentina,” informs an insider. “Almost all countries have gone into two or three seasons.”

Sources say most of the participants on Wipeout are from Fear Factor and Bigg Boss. Some names floating around include Vindoo, Narayani Shastri, Gaurav Chopra, Claudia, Debina and Karishma Baktiyaar.

SRK and television head honcho Sameer Nair have had a long relationship and it was Nair who got him to return to television with Kaun Banega Crorepati. “When Sameer approached him for the show, SRK promptly agreed,” says the source, adding, “the actor agreed to do the show because his kids love it. And they watch the international version of the show. It is an adventure show with loads of action and comedy. And one will get to see the comic side More >

Ego clashes between Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh escalate after they decide to compete against each other

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 15, 2010)

// // // One of television’s most popular couples Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh are heading towards a split. The tension between the two has been building up since quite some time and the couple is rarely seen together these days.

Trouble aggravated between Aamir and Sanjeeda when they were approached to compete with each other for the second season of the dance show Zara Nach Ke Dikha and Aamir was reluctant to compete with his lady love.

A source said, “Aamir and Sanjeeda were approached for the same show, which has a group of boys competing with a group of girls. Unlike last season, this year will have eliminations. When Aamir learnt about the eliminations and realised that he and Sanjeeda would be pitted against each other, he told her that only one of them should participate. However, Sanjeeda flatly refused and they ended up having a tiff.”

This was just the beginning of ego clashes between the couple. “After both of them signed the contract for the show individually, problems only increased as a sense of competition erupted between Aamir and Sanjeeda. Consequently, interaction between the two is down to a minimum now,” added the source.

This isn’t the first couple to have serious issues cropping up in their relationship due to a sense of competition. In the More >

Rakhi may be headed for wedding bliss with an extravagant party on the show, but her family (left out of Rakhi’s guest list) lashes out at her for maligning them

VICKEY LALWANI (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 1, 2009)

While Rakhi Sawant’s ambitious guest list for her swayamvar includes Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, her mother Jaya and brother Rakesh haven’t been invited to give their blessings to the classy bride-to-be. To add insult to injury, on the show, Rakhi has been ranting about the fact that her mother and brother never wanted her to get married. The duo is so furious with Rakhi that Rakesh even called his sister to fire her and said that she should stop spouting lies on a public platform. “Pehle se hi hamein itna badnaam karke rakha hai, ab aur badnami nahin chahiye,” Rakesh told Mumbai Mirror. Rakesh added, “Yes, she has not invited us. And let Rakhi marry anybody. How will it affect my mother and me? My sister is talking nonsense when she claims that we don’t want her to get married. Where would Rakhi have been if my mother had not taken pains to bring her up? She has also been saying that she financed my films. I wonder what she is talking about. Aur bhai-behen ka rishta kuch raha hi nahin hai, sab business ho gaya hai.” A teary eyed Mrs Sawant would have dearly loved to be present at her daughter’s swayamvar. “Mujhe bulaya nahin to main kaise jaoon? I have developed a blockage in my heart. I am very unwell,” Mrs Sawant said. More >
