Looks like there is hope for the Indian pop music industry and solo artistes. Choreographer-turned-singer Ganesh Hegde’s latest music album, Let’s Party, has been in the news for its music, choreography, styling and performances. Ganesh, whose endeavour is to revive Indian pop, has pulled off a coup of sorts by having Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan dance with him in the title track, Let’s Party.

“Fan support will help in making pop music and pop singers survive. Pop cannot make money, but its demand will keep the art alive,” enthuses Ganesh. “Pop music is dying in India, only playback singing and Bollywood sells. In the West, they have Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. Here, we have so much talent but nobody wants to promote it. I want people to realise that pop is also as big as Bollywood and perhaps better in terms of videos and dance,” he states.

Ganesh’s album also features Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu, who are seen in the video Mindblowing Girls, which went on air last week. Shah Rukh Khan, who recently grooved to the choreographer’s steps on Chhamak Chhallo in RA.One, says, “Ganesh has done 99 per cent of my live shows. He is tireless, relentless and a true artiste who can both sing and dance. At a time when people are not launching popular music albums, if Ganesh becomes successful with Let’s Party, I will be very happy.”

For Ganesh Hegde, his work — whether it involves singing or choreographing a music video — means pushing the envelope. And he’s ready to do it again! Six years after releasing his debut album, Ganesh’s back to enthrall with ‘Let’s Party!’ Explaining the reason behind the big gap, Ganesh says, “I was busy with choreographing film songs and shows. Then it’s taken me three years to prepare for this album, as I was involved in all aspects right from directing, producing, singing as well as acting in the music videos.” And what’s more, he’s managed to rope in hotties Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra for the music video of the track Mind Blowing, while for another, he’s got Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif matching steps with him. “Mind Blowing is a track that talks about how girls light up our lives,” says the singer. Along with other numbers, there’s also a semi-classical track Jiya Jo Lage, that Ganesh promises will make people sit up and take notice of him as a singer.

Talking about how he managed to bring these A-list actors on board for the music videos, Ganesh says, “I share a bond with these stars.
