By Bollywood Hungama News Network, April 28, 2011 – 19:06 IST

Ever since it was announced Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom 3 has been the talk of the town. The biggest news was when YRF announced the presence of Aamir Khan in the film along with Dhoom regulars Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. While the male cast has been locked, there has been a lot of speculation about who the female lead would be?

While many top names were being floated around, YRF has now decided to refute all rumours once and for all and has officially announced that for Dhoom 3 they are looking out for a fresh face for the female lead.

Apparently producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya are keen to cast a totally new face to play the female lead role in the movie and the hunt for a fresh face begins now.

Filming of Dhoom 3 starts around end of 2011 and the film is slated for a 2012 Christmas release worldwide.

var iurl ='http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href='+document.location+'&show_faces=false'; document.getElementById('fblike').src=iurl; // ]]> People in our film industry do take risks. They do an offbeat film, they turn themselves from actor to director, and they do an overnight Hollywood migration. But this man has just about done something which can be rightly described as ‘out of the ordinary’. The term Prem Raj has evolved to describe an unpredictable factor in any number of domains. Now don’t ask me the question: Who is Prem Raj? Because it definitely isn’t Prem and Raj – two of the most clichéd Hindi cinema screen names. Having said that, the word Prem Raj is synonymous with one of India’s biggest super stars: Salman Khan. Didn’t get it? Ok, let’s flash back here. The director of Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Prem Soni is back. He is back from the brink with a new identity, Prem Raj. I call him ‘The Wild Card’. But we all lovingly call him Prem. So for the rest of the interview, let’s stick to the latter. Prem just hasn’t changed his name but fortunes too. He has a big announcement to make which might leave the rest of the Indian film fraternity in a bit of frenzy.

This bit of news is going to take you on a long ride of exciting reading. So fasten your seat belts because Prem is officially announcing here on Bollywood Hungama his exclusive three film deal with himself. Again the question, isn’t it? Ok, I

Katrina out; Sonam not signed for The Italian Job

The coveted position of the female lead in Abbas-Mustan’s The Italian Job has run into trouble yet again

Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 16, 2010)

Abbas-Mustan’s The Italian Job is turning into an uphill task, as far as casting the female lead is concerned. The film is supposed to go on floors in November and the leading lady has not been finalised yet.

After Katrina Kaif chose to walk out of the project, there were reports on Abbas-Mustan calling the actress’s move ‘unprofessional’. Recently, Katrina got in touch with the director duo; what transpired between them remains unclear.

Sonam Kapoor Katrina Kaif

In the meantime, news about Sonam Kapoor replacing Katrina Kaif in the film seems premature as well because currently Sonam’s dates are all with Pankaj Kapoor for Mausam. Apparently he has forbidden the actress from signing any new films before she completes his film.

During the first schedule of Mausam in Scotland, Sonam had a simultaneous date-clash with Anees Bazmi’s Thank You. Fortunately that was sorted out. Soon after that, Sonam had to leave this Scotland schedule mid-way to return to Mumbai and promote I Hate Luv Storys. While Sonam was in Mumbai, Shahid had no choice but to shoot solo and take breaks to visit friends in London. Says a source, “Pankajji overlooked all of this because he treats Sonam like a daughter.”

The filmmaker is shooting a political thriller loosely based on the ex-Prime Minister’s murder; Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi will act

Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 26, 2010)

Now that Dibakar Banerjee has had his fill with understanding the complexities of personal relationships in Love Sex Aur Dhokha, the director is taking an interest in politics.

His next is supposedly a political thriller that is loosely based on ex-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination. The film will star Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles. Dibakar is yet to cast an actress to play the female lead.

A source says, “Dibakar is considering Manisha Koirala and Sushmita Sen for the role of a female politician in the film. Talks are also on with Kalki for playing the female lead in the film.”

Apparently, Dibakar has been wanting to make this political thriller for long now, but he got busy with LSD and this project was put on hold. Initially, he had planned to make the political thriller with Imran Khan and Abhay Deol with Katrina Kaif as the female lead.

Dibakar Banerjee Abhay Deol Emraan Hashmi

But Dibakar’s plans with Imran Khan didn’t work out because the actor couldn’t work out dates for the director. Imran Khan has now lost the film to his namesake (well almost), Emraan Hashmi.

Although the film is not based on the late Prime Minister’s life, it supposedly revolves around his death and the way he was killed. Dibakar has been More >

Konkona paired opp Rajeev?

Mauli Singh (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 17, 2010)

Rajeev Khandelwal is all set to romance Konkona Sen in debutant director Neerav Ghosh’s film Soundtrack.

This musical comedy produced by Sa Re Ga Ma, has some similarities with the plot of Sujoy Ghosh’s Jhankaar Beats. Rajeev plays a musician in the film. A source reveals, “Rajeev is not playing a rock star like Ranbir is in Imtiaz Ali’s next film. Rajeev is playing a music composer and he sports a very interesting look in the film, which is currently being kept under wraps.”

Rajeev Khandelwal Konkona Sen

Apparently, Rajeev will be learning how to play some musical instruments for the film. As for Konkona’s role, the source adds, “Though Konkona is playing the female lead in the film, there is a second female character in the film and the producers are waiting to cast a relatively new girl for that part.”

Konkona was the director’s first choice, we are told. Rajeev refused to comment.

Dhamaal sequel to have heroines

The sequel to the ‘all-boys’ comedy Dhamaal will, surprisingly, have two heroines By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; April 22, 2010)

Remember the comedy Dhamaal which released in 2007 starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Ritesh Deshmukh, Javed Jaffery and Ashish Chowdhary? It’s claim to fame was that it was an all-boys affair and had no female lead.

Even when the sequel to the film was announced earlier this year by producer Ashok Thakeria and director Indra Kumar, it was declared that Dhamaal 2 also wouldn’t have any heroines.

Dhamaal

Now suddenly, the makers have changed their mind. Just three months before Dhamaal 2 goes on the floors, two heroines have been added to the project, thereby ending the all-boys claim.

Confirming the development, producer Ashok Thakeria says, “We’d never made a policy decision not to have girls in Dhamaal. It just so happened that the film had no women characters. For the sequel too, we initially thought we would carry forward the same trend. However, as the script developed, there was room for the girls too. So we have added roles for two heroines.”

There is word that the roles for female leads were added on the insistence of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy may be finalised for the parts.

Prateik to play lead in Goldie Behl’s next

By Subhash K. Jha, February 16, 2010 – 09:52 IST

Now Prateik and not Abhishek Bachchan will pay the lead in Goldie’s film.

Shooting in the Mumbai streets in movies about life in the metropolis has become a way of life for Prateik Babbar. Last month he shot for Raghav Dar’s My Friend Pinto on the Mumbai streets. Now during the whole of July Prateik will be on the streets of Mumbai shooting in the pelting rain for a thriller set in the monsoon.

Remember Smita Patil’s celebrated song in the rain ‘Aaj Rapat Jayen‘ with Amitabh Bachchan in Namak Halal? Apparently, Smita was so unhappy doing a rain song that she cried after she came home.

One hopes Prateik likes the rain more. Goldie will shoot the entire film tentatively entitled Copycat in the rains.

Says the director, “It’s gritty realistic romantic thriller set on the streets of Mumbai during the rains. We’ll be shooting from July through the monsoon.”

Goldie didn’t want artificial studio rains for the film. But he did want Prateik for the lead. Says Goldie, “There’s something special about that boy, besides the fact that he looks so much like his mother. He suits the role perfectly.”

A new girl will star opposite Prateik. A short-list of hopefuls has been drawn up and Goldie would take his best-friend and almost-brother Abhishek’s help to choose the finalist for the female lead.

If I get any thinner, I’ll be a hanger-Kareena Kapoor

‘SAIF’ AND SECURE: Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor talks about her figure(s) — size zero, 7-crore fee and the three films that’s going to keep her on the top

MEENA IYER Times News Network (BOMBAY TIMES; January 30, 2010)

At beau Saif Ali Khan’s high-rise apartment in Mumbai, the lady-in-charge is Kareena Kapoor. Looking fresh as a daisy (without a dot of makeup) Bebo is internet browsing. The view from the 10th floor, an aesthetically done up home, is breath-taking. On second thoughts, so is Kareena. Back in the saddle after 3-Idiots, she has 2010 sorted out. She’s flying to Bangkok, then Paris, then Switzerland for her various commercial endorsements. Yes Queen Bee has renewed as many as 10 advertising contracts and will fly across the globe lending brand value to lifestyle and fashion products. As far as the movies go, she’s on a rampage too.

If Katrina Kaif issues ultimatums to film-makers like Prakash Jha, Abbas-Mustan and Farah Khan asking them to increase her role in the movies, Bebo does better. Trade sources say director Rohit Shetty who is making Golmaal-3, will have just her, and her alone as the female lead.

When asked if she’s the one who’s issued a dictat to the Golmaal-3 guys, Bebo says, “Of course not. I’m not the sort who tells film-makers what to do. The script is around this one girl. And yes, there are no other heroines in the film because that’s the way they wanted it.” She refuses to confirm her fee but she doesn’t dismiss the trade tattle on her More >

Katrina in Zoya’s next?

It’s quite a casting coup – Katrina Kaif is all set to romance Hrithik Roshan By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 26, 2010)

Katrina Kaif is selecting her roles with utmost care. Her projects in 2010 are apparently handpicked to enhance her reputation as an actor.

// // //

Katrina Kaif

Among her films is the upcoming Zoya Akthar road movie set in Spain with Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Hrithik Roshan. Surprising, because with three actors in the project, it would seem there’s little space for a female lead.

But Zoya’s yet untitled film casts Katrina with Hrithik Roshan for the first time ever, and Katrina’s part is said to be something she has never played before.

Though Katrina is unwilling to reveal some potentially explosive chemistry with Hrithik, Farhan Akhtar, who is himself on the verge of being seen with an exciting new star, speaks guardedly about the subject.

Hrithik Roshan

“It’s too early to talk about it, but yes, if Katrina does come into our project, she will be cast opposite Hrithik. He is the only one who gets to romance his love interest. Abhay and I have no love interest in the film.”

Farhan adds that the bonding among the three co-stars is the backbone of Zoya’s film. Katrina has never worked with a woman director before, and neither has she worked with Hrithik. Shooting for the film starts in April.

MOVIES THAT WILL ROCK IN 2010

The following are the films that have big stars and have highest chances of succeeding at the box office: MY NAME IS KHAN: A winner for sure! Although the film looks serious, it has managed to arouse curiosity. And anyways, the name of Shah Rukh Khan is enough to make almost everyone sit up and take notice. Kajol being paired opp SRK is like an icing on the cake. Also it has talented actors like Jimmy Shergill which, I don’t think, will be revealed in promos till the flick releases on Feb 12. The first look of the film made people assume that it’s based on terrorism. However, it’s not! To quote SRK, “It’s a love story with an epic feel(Bombay Times). MNIK is thus expected to work not only in India but overseas too.

RAAVAN/RAVANA: Mark my words; this one would rock big big time! Unfortunately, when Bolly websites are discussing 2010 biggies, they aren’t mentioning this flick. There are many reasons as to why this film is special. Firstly, it is directed by talented-creative Mani Ratnam who never goes wrong. Secondly, it’s a present day version of Ramayana. And thirdly and the best part, the star cast and the characters that they play are just out of this world! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Sita but Abhishek Bachchan isnt playing Rama! Instead, he’s Raavan in the film, i.e. the villain! Southern actor Vikram is Rama! Guess who plays Hanuman? None other than apna Govinda! Just imagine-Govinda in Mani’s film! Cool isnt it?
