While putting all his efforts into his father’s next, Mausam, Shahid Kapoor has decided to sign another film, which will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala
Though Shahid Kapoor had taken a year off to work with his father Pankaj Kapur on Mausam (probably a smart decision considering the hard task master Pankaj is), he has signed another film.
Shahid has signed Sajid Nadiadwala’s next film, tentatively titled Heer Ranjha, which will be directed by Sabir Khan (who made Kambakkht Ishq). Our source said, “The actor is extremely passionate about his father’s film Mausam. While working on the film, he did not sign another.
He was rejecting every offer that came his way. Initially he didn’t want any distraction. Later, he signed Sabir Khan’s next.
Apparently, Shahid loved the script of the film. The leading lady of the film is yet to be finalised. The film will go on floors in February next year. Shahid will be working with Sajid for the first time.
Sajid has films lined up with many A-listers, like Kick with Salman Khan, Imtiaz Ali’s next with Hrithik Roshan, Housefull sequel with Akshay Kumar, Siddarth Anand’s next with Saif Ali Khan and Anjaana Anjaani, which is ready for release.” Wonder if that prompted Shahid to sign the film; both he and Sajid remained unavailable for comment though.
Rajshri Studios and Satish Kaushik’s ambitious magnum opus, that was to star Abhishek Bachchan, might never see the light of day
The fate of Satish Kaushik’s directorial Tansen seems to be in limbo. Announced two years ago, the film was being revived in March. But the latest is that the film has once again been put on the backburner. Abhishek Bachchan was being considered for the role.
A source close to the project says, “Tansen has been shelved.” Yet when contacted, director Satish Kaushik denied the story. He clarifies, “It’s not true. The film has not been shelved but it has been put on a hold. It was supposed to take off in February.” Explaining the cause for the delay of Tansen, Satish Kaushik says, “The budget of the film is over 50 crore. So the rethinking process is going in order to cut down the budget of the film. The film has a beautiful script written by Irshad Kamil.”

Satish had admitted in an earlier interview that he was considering Abhishek Bachchan for the lead role. That now is history; he denied this, saying, “The script was never given to Abhishek or any other star.”
Sooraj Barjatya, who was meant to produce the film, disagrees. “It isn’t true. It is a very ambitious project which requires huge budgets. We have to wait for the correct time to begin.”
Rajshri’s spokesperson says, “We have kept the project pending as three of our films (Love You Mr. Kalakaar, Jaana Pehchana, Isi Life Mein) are awaiting release this year. Our current focus is on them.”
Tansen, in the meanwhile, can do his riyaz alone…
Recently, (Late) B R Chopra’s son, filmmaker Ravi Chopra, was flown to the US for medical treatment. Though admitted in a Mumbai hospital in February this year, for lung infection, Ravi had not recuperated, which is when his family members decided to take him to the US for better medical treatment.
According to a source, “Ravi was in the city hospital for nearly a month and after he was discharged, his health still needed a lot of attention. He had lost several kilos and had become very frail.
His wife Renu and sons Abhay and Kapil then decided to take him to the US for better treatment.” Ravi had plans of starting several new projects under his banner B R Films.
We called B R Films to check on this. A male voice said, “Yes, Ravi saab and his family are in the US for his treatment. He is better now, but we don’t know when he’ll be back.” On being asked who he was, he refused to divulge any information. We wish Ravi Chopra a speedy recovery.

The rumour mills are working overtime. While a spate of Akshay Kumar starrers are expected to hit the screens in the second half of 2010, starting with KHATTA MEETHA [next Friday], ACTION REPLAYY [5th November; Diwali], PATIALA HOUSE [19th November] and TEES MAAR KHAN [24th December], everyone’s curious to know whether ACTION REPLAYY and PATIALA HOUSE will indeed arrive in the same month. While the producers of both ACTION REPLAYY and PATIALA HOUSE are sticking to the date, there’s talk that PATIALA HOUSE might be shifted ahead, to February next year.
However, PATIALA HOUSE producer Mukesh Talreja denies the development outright. “We are waiting for Akshay to arrive. We did speak with him, but he had to leave for Manali and hence, we couldn’t sort this issue out. All I can say right now is that there’s no question of a postponement. We are firm on 19th November. Definitely not February next year. Yet, we will take a call in the next few days,” Talreja clarifies.
The T-Series honcho is a doting husband. Bhushan Kumar has gifted his wife, Divya Kumar, a spanking new white and silver Rolls Royce Ghost. It’s the first car from the latest edition of Rolls Royce to hit Indian roads.
Bhushan, who is a car fanatic and drives a Bentley, says, “I wanted to surprise Divya. So I booked it on our marriage anniversary in February.” A source says that the business tycoon spent a cool extra crore to ship this car. Bhushan though denies it.

Divya, naturally thrilled to bits, admits that she felt like a queen driving the Rolls Royce. “It’s so huge that it feels more like a rocket than a car. I was really taken aback because it wasn’t even my birthday. Later, Bhushan told me that he booked it on our anniversary.
Red is Bhushan’s favourite colour, but he got me a white car because it’s one of the colours I really like.” Quite a pristine choice there, Divya.
Ask her if she would like to drive the car herself, she coyly replies, “I want Bhushan to drive the car with me sitting by his side.”
On the first day, the couple went for a drive on the Lokhandwala back road and went for the trial show of Kites at Yash Raj Films.
The business tycoon says that he is planning a trip to Shirdi in two weeks and he wants to drive down in this new car.
But he will check the condition of the roads first, he adds. Do it before the monsoons, if you seek our advice.

Mumbai: The Internet was buzzing on Friday with blogs, tweets, status updates and reviews on ‘My Name is Khan’, allowing the movie to take up a large chunk of cyberspace.
MNIK was one of the mostsearched topics on Google in the US and India for over five hours. Internationally, Google Trends’ statistics for February indicated that the most MNIK searches originated from users in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, UAE and Malaysia, in that order. Among cities, users in Navi Mumbai, Mangalore, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai were mainly keying in MNIK into the search field.
Twitter had to officially define MNIK to the international audience after it started trending for over seven hours. The definition read, “MNIK is a popular topic on Twitter right now. My Name Is Khan. The Bollywood film is releasing on Friday (Feb. 12) with huge security at cinemas owing to a right-wing organization’s threat.’’
Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently in Berlin for the Berlin Film Festival, had an hour-long emotional outburst on Twitter starting at 3.30 pm IST. He profusely thanked his fans, declared his patriotism, conveyed his regrets and then clarified that his statements were only directed at fans.
Well-known personalities, like Anand Mahindra, Hrithik Roshan and others tweeted in support of the film. Mahesh Bhatt and Vishal Dadlani tweeted from PVR and Fun Republic cinemas, respectively, where they had gone to watch the film.
Through the day, tweeple—tweeting people—played an impromptu game. The rule was to start every tweet with ‘My Name Is….’ Some gems were: “My Name Is George. And I continue the family tradition of beating around the Bush,’’ “My Name Is Ghajini and I forgot what my name is,’’ and “My Name Is Mahendra Singh Dho… okay, I’m out, gotta go back to the dressing room now.’’
Orkut had 696 communities dedicated to the film, while users on Facebook and Buzz were posting reviews about the film. Some compared it to ‘Forrest Gump’, while others said that they were going to watch the film so that democracy would win.
The web also archived the disappointment of fans. “I sacrificed sleep for the first show and when we reached the multiplex, there came a shocker, the movie wasn’t being shown,’’ wrote Rakesh Kumar.
I hope you all have plans to go out and watch the film over the weekend…. We have to stand up for what is right

All that has been happening over the past few days is very unfortunate and sad! I believe that sports, arts and culture should be above politics

Call it a coincidence, but there is always a 3 or 4-year gap between each of Karan Johar’s films. KUCH KUCH HOTA HAIN , KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM , KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA and now, his ambitious venture MY NAME IS KHAN opens this February, after almost four years since his last release hit the marquee.
“I can’t churn out movies like a machine. But I do promise to start another film this year,” Karan enlightens me. Reportedly, the supremely talented film-maker is keen to cast his favourite Shah Rukh Khan and WAKE UP SID actor Ranbir Kapoor in his next venture. True? “That’s news to my ears. Right now, I am too much into MY NAME IS KHAN and can’t think of anything else. The cast you mentioned is also untrue,” he elucidates.
Karan also adds that he hasn’t cast anyone in the AGNEEPATH remake yet. “A lot of people ask me why I am keen to remake AGNEEPATH. Let me explain. The film didn’t work at the box-office when it opened almost two decades ago and my father, who was very vocal that AGNEEPATH was one of his finest films, always felt that the film never got its due. He would often prod me to remake AGNEEPATH some day, so here I am, fulfilling my father’s wishes,” Karan says.
The new AGNEEPATH, hence, will be a tribute to Karan’s father.
|Helmut Zwerger with a painting of Rajnikant in the background|
His larger claim to fame is that he is the only artist whose works have shown in space, the galactic yonder beyond Planet Earth. On October 18, 2003, paintings by Helmut Zwerger titled Oil@All were brought with a Sojus TMA-3 carrier rocket from the aerospace basis in Bajkonur to the ISS space shuttle under the control of Russian cosmonaut and “space-gallerist” Alexander Kaleri.
Portraits of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, star tenor Luciano Pavarotti, and American senator and astronaut John Glenn literally ‘hung out’ in outer space for 200 days. Closer home, Zwerger has developed a fascination with smaller, more tangible stars: Bollywood actors. Thus, Dr Helmut Zwerger from Austria will be showcasing his paintings in his patented pop-art flourishes, featuring the likes of Hema Malini, Hrithik Roshan, Madhubala, Priyanka Chopra, Vijay Mallya even.
In the suite of paintings that will open on February 9, three of the works will be from the ones that were shown to extra-terrestrial audiences in space.
When contacted about what sparked this inspiration, the artist said, “Somehow for me, it is very clear and logical that I would meet the stars of Bollywood. In my home country, Austria, Bollywood is a rage.
People are fascinated by Bollywood and its stars. Theoretically, I could have hosted this exhibition in Austria as well.” Has he met any of the stars he has painted? “No, I’ve only met Amitabh Bachchan in his office last year in February. This was at Juhu in his office! The others I’ve grabbed through the internet for references.” That’s the best way to make sure that the stars he paints get ‘space’, we presume!

Believe it or not, the Vinod Mehra, Jaya Bachchan, Amrish Puri starrer Aahat – Ek Ajib Kahani, directed by Kishore Rege, will release this year, 36 years after it was completed in 1974.
Salim Jafer, who is distributing the film in India, confirmed and said, “We are releasing Aahat- Ek Ajib Kahani on February 26.”
While Vinod Mehra and Amrish Puri are no more, Jaya Bachchan has been informed about the release of the film. Salim said, “We have informed Jayaji that we are releasing Aahat this month.
She told us, ‘Bahut achhi baat hai ki aap is film ko release kar rahe ho.’”
When asked about what led to the extremely long delay in releasing the film, Salim said, “We had some problems which I don’t want to talk about. Then the producer of the film, Franklin Fernandes, passed away. Uske baad picture cans mein padi thi. Now, SP Seth has decided to produce it. We are very proud of the fact that we are releasing a film, which has two good actors who have, unfortunately, passed away.”
Talking about the film, producer SP Seth said, “Jayaji plays a blind girl and Vinodji plays a cameraman. No prizes for guessing that Amrishji plays a menacing villain.”
Will you watch Aahat?
• AASHNA ARORA (22): I won’t watch it. It’s not a big film. Right now, I am looking forward to seeing Rann and Ishqiya. I would rather watch new stuff.
• SUNDER CHANDIRAMANI (65): I am a big fan of Jaya Bachchan and have hardly missed any of her films. I will definitely watch it.
• VIJAY MIRANI (25): Absolutely not. I know who Soniya Mehra is but I don’t know who Vinod Mehra is. Why would anybody go to the theatre to watch Vinod Mehra and Jaya Bachchan when you have the likes of Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar?
• SABEENA RANGEELA (25): Vinod Mehra and Amrish Puri were good actors. I would like to see them on screen again. I will see the film.
Kareena and Shahid Kapoor together again? No way! That was the first reaction when one first heard about the new lofty plans ahead for the long-delayed Kareena-Shahid starrer Milenge Milenge, based on the 2001 Hollywood romcom Serendipity.
Boney Kapoor and Satish Kaushik have just got ambitious about this delayed project. Not only are they shooting a new beginning for the film, they’re set to shoot a music video to promote the film for which they will bring together the now-estranged couple Shahid and Kareena Kapoor.
|Shahid Kapoor||Kareena Kapoor|
The buzz is that producer Boney Kapoor has already asked the actors (who don’t speak to each other) to do the music video. Apparently, both Shahid and Kareena have no qualms about being thoroughly professional for the film’s sake.
“Didn’t they shoot the Mauja hi Mauja item song in Jab We Met right after their split? So why wouldn’t they shoot a song for a music video, especially since it’s for the benefit of a film that stars the two of them? Himesh Reshammiya has recorded an outstanding track. Both Shahid and Kareena love it.”
When questioned about the rumour about Kareena andShahid coming together for the music video, producer Boney Kapoor is guarded, “Himesh’s track would entice anyone. Yes, I’ve asked Kareena and Shahid. I’m sure they’ll do it.”
The film’s release has been pushed forward from February to March-April so that this very special Shahid-Kareena music video can be recorded. Says Boney, “We have almost everything in place. Only the first reel is not ready. We need to shoot a prologue with a very big female star who will narrate the love story between Shahid and Kareena. And, of course, the music video.”
