I have always worked with amateur actors-Puja Gupta
0Garima Sharma (BOMBAY TIMES; May 18, 2013)
When Miss India Universe 2007 Puja Gupta debuted with F.A.L.T.U in 2011, she knew she didn’t have a significant part in the film. She says she had nothing to do in the film, but, it was the idea of working with Vashu Bhagnani, who goes all out to promote his films, that she said yes. Little did she know that the film would get her the next two projects she signed — Go Goa Gone and Shortcut Romeo. In fact, it is the latter’s lead actor Neil Nitin Mukesh who recommended her to director Susi Ganesan. “Neil liked my screen presence and recommended me to Susi sir, who didn’t even audition me,” she says.
About her role in the film, Puja says, “For Neil’s character, money is everything. But things change when this girl enters his life. She makes him a better person.” In real life, it’s been the other way round, with Neil helping her improve her skill-set. “It’s my first romantic film, and I am glad that I worked with Susi sir, Ameesha Patel and Neil. He is such a mature actor; I’ve only done films with amateurs or young actors.” The director is another person Puja is indebted to. “Susi sir has presented me so well as the heroine. He has shot me in a way that I’ve never looked so beautiful. He enhanced my acting,” she says.
Talking to her, one can never believe she went through a disturbing phase after her debut. “I had no work and no one was calling me. It was the most horrible time of my life. But Atul Kasbekar, whom I work with, had More >
No room for clash between me and Prabhu Dheva-Remo Dsouza
0India’s top choreographers discuss matching steps as actor-director on new film
Ankit Ajmera (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 10, 2013)
One hour spent with choreographers Prabhu Deva and Remo D’Souza (real names: Shankupani and Ramesh Gopi) is long enough to figure that they are fond admirers of each other. Which made working together on ABCD (Anybody Can Dance), India’s first 3D dance film a breeze. It’s the story of a choreographer who is fired from a dance institute, when he bumps into an old friend and the two decide to make their own team.
Although both Prabhu Deva and D’Souza have successfully graduated from choreography to direction, for ABCD, Prabhu Deva turned actor, happily taking instructions from D’Souza. “There was no room for a clash because I know how good a dancer Prabhu sir is,” D’Souza says, smiling wide through a thick French beard.
Since 2005, Prabhu Deva, the son of Sundaram Master, a well known choreographer in South Indian cinema, has directed 10 Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films including blockbusters Wanted (2009) and Rowdy Rathore (2012). It was when Telugu film producer MS Raju suggested that he direct a movie that he took on Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which won the Filmfare award (2006) for Best Film (Telugu).
D’Souza wasn’t as lucky. His first film Lal Pahare’r Katha (2007) based on Chhau, a tribal dance form of Orissa and West Bengal, had to be self-produced. Mithun Chakraborty agreed to act in it, and it turned out to be a surprise winner at the More >
Got Shortcut Romeo only because of Neil-Puja Gupta
0‘FALTU’ actress gives credit to close friend Neil Nitin Mukesh for helping her bag upcoming film
Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; October 12, 2012)
While in Bollywood, credit theft may be rampant, but Puja Gupta has no qualms admitting that it was due to Neil Nitin Mukesh that she earned her next film. The actress, who made her debut in FALTU last year, has been signed for the Hindi remake of South film Thiruttu Payale, Shortcut Romeo, along with Neil.
The actress tells us, “I got this film only because of Neil. He is one of my oldest friends and he recommended my name to the director Susi Ganeshan.” Pooja also states that her upcoming role was a bit tough to play and the actor helped her with the finer nuances of her character.
She says, “I was a bit apprehensive, as I was required to enact many emotional scenes and recite some Urdu dialogues also. Neil is a sweetheart. During our outdoor shoot even though I would feel so sleepy, he would make sure I rehearsed my lines from 6 am to 10 am.”
Jackky Bhagnani to star in South remake
0Will play the lead in a romantic comedy based on the Telugu hit Seema Tapakai
Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; March 29, 2012)
Hindi remakes of South films have proved to be box office winners for Bollywood filmmakers and actors. Salman Khan did Wanted. Ajay Devgn did Singham. Ranveer Singh has been pencilled in for the Magadheera remake. The latest to join the bandwagon is Jackky Bhagnani, who is set to play the lead in a remake of the Telugu hit Seema Tapakai. Produced by Puja Films, the untitled film is going to be helmed by Dhoom director Sanjay Gadhvi, with music by Sajid-Wajid. The leading lady will be zeroed in on soon. Confirming the news, Jackky says, “It’s a romcom. I can’t reveal much more right now. The only thing I can say is that I play this rich guy who pretends to be poor. I am excited because this is my first film with a well-known director and it will hit the floors in April.”
There is also a sequel to F.A.L.T.U., titled Fal-2, in the offing, with Remo D’souza once again helming the project. The buzz, however, is that the Bhagnanis have sworn off repeating the film’s co-star Puja Gupta in their films. Apparently, the actress had given them a hard time during the making of F.A.L.T.U.
Jackky diplomatically replies, “F.A.L.T.U. was Puja’s first film. And it happens with newcomers, where they think, ‘I have become a heroine!’ What they need to understand is that you are a heroine for the outside world, not the people you work with.”

Coming Soon: ABCD-a 3D dance film
1Prabhu Deva and So You Think You Can Dance contestant Lauren Gottlieb to feature in Remo D’Souza’s film
Bina Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; March 6, 2012)
For a country renowned for its dancing, India has few movies that can truly be called dance flicks. UTV Motion Pictures seeks to end that drought by producing ABCD (Any Body Can Dance), India’s first 3D dance film.
Choreographer Remo D’Souza (of F.A.L.T.U. fame) is directing the film, while Prabhu Deva and Ganesh Acharya play key characters. Winners of the reality show Dance India Dance (which Remo co-judges) Dharmesh, Prince, Mayuresh, Salman Khan and Vrushali also feature. Lauren Gottlieb, who made it to the top three on the third season of So You Think You Can Dance, has been cast as the film’s female lead.
An excited Remo says, “It is like a dream come true. In fact, this film is a culmination of several dreams — I get to make a dance film and get Prabhu Deva to dance and act in it.”
Says Prabhu Deva, “There’s so much energy on the sets! There are so many fantastic young dancers in this film and matching steps with them has been really fun and tough for me at the same time. I feel like a teenager around them. In fact, I feel more like a dancer working in the film than an actor.”
Music composer duo Sachin-Jigar, who also scored for Remo’s last outing, have been retained. Says Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures, “With ABCD, we believe we’re pushing the boundaries of innovative content. Remo is the best choice to More >
Diana Penty to debut with Saif
0She is the latest supermodel to set her eyes on Bollywood
Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; April 22, 2011)
Model Diana Penty has signed Homi Adajania’s film where she will share screen space with Saif Ali Khan. However, the leading lady is Deepika Padukone. The yet untitled movie is set to be shot in London and New Delhi.
Reveals an insider, “Diana went through a round of auditions before she was finalised for the role. Looks like it is a two-heroine film. The crew is presently scouting locations in London and they will start shooting mid-May. Diana went through complete grooming, from diction to acting, before she was signed on. The film is edgy and she will be tested as an actor. She is not just eye-candy in the film.”
The film brings back the Saif-Deepika Love Aaj Kal jodi. Their chemistry had worked in their first film and Homi wants to exploit it further. But this one’s nothing like LAK. It’s a little complex but a thorough entertainer.”

Faltu to release during World Cup 2011
0By Taran Adarsh, December 21, 2010 – 08:47 IST
Years ago, Vashu Bhagnani had released his film BIWI NO. 1 during World Cup cricket matches. At that point of time, I distinctly remember, people had scoffed at Vashu, calling him overconfident and brash. But Vashu’s calculations proved right as BIWI NO. 1 withstood the tough competition from cricket matches and emerged victorious at the box-office. In fact, back then, BIWI NO. 1 set new records at practically every centre, quashing the myth that films can’t withstand the tough competition from cricket.
The enterprising film-maker has now decided to pitch his next film FALTU during the cricket matches – during the peak of World Cup fever, next year.
Vashu has confirmed 1 April as the release date of FALTU… and this is no April Fool joke. “I have tremendous confidence in my film. It has shaped up exceedingly well,” Vashu informs me. But won’t the clash with crucial cricket matches affect the business of his film? “We will try to avoid shows which clash with crucial matches. That will ensure that the cricket matches don’t eat into our business,” Vashu says.
Meanwhile, Vashu is bringing in son Jackky’s birthday on 25 December, by throwing a completion party on 24 December [yes, FALTU gets completed on this date]. The music launch of FALTU will take place on Valentine’s Day next year.
