Criminal lawyer asked to resign from his post as trustee of Imamia Masjid for his ‘embarrassing behaviour’ on the show
The reality of Bigg Boss has come home a bit too forcefully for Abbas Kazmi, who represented 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Qasab. The criminal lawyer, who was eliminated from the house after the votes went against him, has now been asked to resign from his position as managing trustee of the Imamia Masjid by community leaders.
Kazmi had done a Salman on the sets of the reality show by taking off his shirt and baring a clean-shaven chest, which, unlike Dabangg Khan’s, did not have a single pack. He had also danced with skimpily-clad cheer girls on the host’s insistence.
Shia scholar and General Secretary of All India Shia Personal Law Board, Maulana Zahir Abbas Rizvi, expressed his outrage at Kazmi’s behaviour on the show. “Participating in such an objectionable TV series is forbidden by religion. Kazmi’s behaviour has been a shame for the community, especially because he holds the responsible position of a managing trustee.” The Imamia Masjid at Dongri is one of the oldest mosques of the Shia sect.
The 55-year-old, who was sacked by Special Judge M L Tahaliyani for non-cooperation during the Qasab trial, seems to have made a habit of being kicked out.

Rizvi said, “He has let down the entire community in the past too by defending Qasab, for which he was condemned all over India. But this is worse than what he did in the past as this does not even figure in his professional commitments. Kazmi should quit immediately on moral grounds as what he did on the show was embarrassing. He should then do whatever he likes in his personal capacity.”
Trustee Nazar Abbas was more restrained in his reaction. “Yes, I felt bad about Kazmiji’s participation. But let me first discuss this with him and I am sure all of us trustees can sort this out.” The trustees and former trustees were not willing to criticise the lawyer’s antics on the show openly because he is the managing trustee.

Maulana Saabir Raza said he had sent Kazmi a message asking him to resign from his post, “His behaviour has been totally unacceptable and that’s why many of the community’s leaders, including me, have asked him to resign. It does not suit a trustee to indulge in naach-gaana and vulgar talks on TV, as the community’s image gets tarnished. However, we hope to resolve this through discussions.”
Kazmi said that he had not been informed of any such action by any community head, “I was at Imamia Masjid on Sunday. But nobody told me anything.”
When he was voted out of the show, he blamed it on dirty politics and said, “Their strategy is to first get rid of someone like me, who is in for the long haul, because they see me as a threat.”
Hopefully, with all his experience with rejection, he will eventually learn to accept it graciously.
When asked to delete a nude scene from Crook , the makers threw a fit. But the Censors didn’t budge. The film had to make do with an ‘A’ (certificate, not grade)
Producer Mahesh Bhatt is at a “crooked” crossroad. The filmmaker was told that if he wanted a U/A certificate for Crook, he would have to edit out a scene with a topless woman in it. Alternatively, he could keep the scene and have his film get an ‘A’ certificate. Bhatt chose the latter.
Though the director of the film, Mohit Suri, tried to convince him otherwise, Bhatt insisted that the film be released as ‘Adults Only’.
Last Tuesday saw a major showdown at the Censor screening of Crook, which was attended by Mohit Suri and Mukesh Bhatt. An actress called Shella Alan has performed the topless scene in question, which was shot in Australia.
Says a source, “In the film, Emraan Hashmi (the male lead in Crook) gets drunk and passes out in Shella’s car. He wakes up in her bed, and when he comes out from the washroom he sees her changing her clothes, with her back to him.”
According to the source, Mahesh questioned the Censor Board’s decision to allow frontal nudity in films like Ram Teri Ganga Maili, whereas his film shows side nudity only. The Censor members found this argument bordering on blasphemy and completely disagreed with it.
Mohit Suri and Mukesh Bhatt then called up Mahesh Bhatt, who told him in no uncertain terms that the scene couldn’t be done away with under any circumstances.
Turns out, Shella had no issues in doing the topless scene. Reveals Mohit Suri, “I asked her if she wanted to wear a body suit but she said she was fine without it. I understood Bhatt saab’s perspective. I wanted a U/A but we are fine.”
Bhatt admitted to having had an argument with Suri but said, “It’s okay. I was not ready to eliminate that scene. I see nothing wrong in it. There are three reasons why I was so possessive about the scene. One, it is relevant to the film. Two, it creates a dramatic impact. Three, the audience today largely comprises of the young generation who want certain sensationalism and not the so-called purists.” Now now, Bhatt saab… why put it on youngsters?
In a saucy, hatke interview, Salman Khan unleashes his hilarious, wicked side
I keep an early alarm to wake up on time so that I can interview Chulbul Pandey aka Salman Khan. Zipping past the mad traffic to make it on time, I enter Mehboob Studio. Luckily the star hasn’t arrived. I wait for a few minutes and Sallu arrives with his entourage. The actor has his table-chair set outside his vanity van, where we sit under the hot sun discussing his new avatar as host on Bigg Boss 4. Excerpts from a fun rendezvous:
• If given an opportunity, would you go inside the Bigg Boss house and be locked up with the contestants with no connection with the outside world?
As long as there are no cameras inside, yes, I will.
• For how long can you remain disconnected from the outside world?
Let me see now.
• But will you experiment and go inside?
I have been in more difficult situations than the contestants of Bigg Boss can ever be in! And I have handled them pretty well I guess…So I don’t think it will be that much of a problem. It will be a party place for me. I like people, good people, great people.
• Who would be the first person you would make a call to apart from your parents after getting out?
(Thinks) Apart form my parents, I would call Ashvini (programming head of the channel) and ask her what to do next.
• The contestants discuss everything under the sun about their personal lives. Do you find it right?
That’s good na. It’s entertaining.
• Would you discuss your personal relationships in the house, seen and heard by everyone?
You guys discuss my personal life without even knowing it. That is what I find very amusing. So I don’t even react to it and nobody else also reacts to it. And now the fans have also stopped reacting to it. Now I am on Twitter ya, so whenever something comes up, they immediately tweet.
• Tell me five actors you would like to see in the Bigg Boss house together?
I would like Sanju to be here (Sanjay Dutt), Govinda, myself, Jackie (Jackie Shroff), Akki (Akshay Kumar). We all will have a blast.
• Five actresses?
Five names you choose. All are good.
• Five directors?
All the directors should remain outside and keep directing
• If you were locked in the house with Vivek Oberoi, John Abraham, Shah Rukh Khan, who would you eliminate?
Do I have to answer this question?
I have to? What if I don’t, then?
• You just have to say one person’s name!
I would eliminate myself.
• And if you are not in the house with them, who would you choose to eliminate?
(Loudly) If I am not in the house, I am not the Bigg Boss, then I don’t have the right to eliminate anybody. They can be in as longgg as they want.
• If you had Sangeeta Bijlani, Somy Ali and Aishwarya Rai in the house, who would you eliminate?
I would keep them all.
• You wouldn’t eliminate anyone?
(Long pause) I really really like Sangeeta and Somy. They are my friends.
• Which actresses, if inside, will have cat fights according to you?
I think the actresses nowadays are pretty chilled out. Because I have worked with most of them. They all get along. The way the heroes get along, the actresses get along.
• You mean actresses only get along on screen?
No, off screen also. Nobody is into each other’s work. They are all in their spaces.
• Every contestant is given a household duty to do? What duty would you take up?
I would take the duty of cooking.
• If given a chance, what would you cook?
Nothing! I’ll make such bad food for everybody that they will run away from my food.
• What is the hatke lingo you plan to use on this show?
I would use a lot of beep wali gaalis.
• Among the Hollywood celebrities, which star would you like to see as an inmate inside and why?
I have no idea. I don’t know anybody in Hollywood. I know my friends from here. This industry is Hollywood for me.
• Aren’t you disturbed that controversy never seems to leave you?
Doesn’t that disturb you guys?
• No, it doesn’t disturb us.
No? Then why should it disturb me?
• Why do people see you in a film and want to copy your style?
You are seeing what I am wearing (points out to his clothes). It is very easily affordable. Jeans, t-shirt, ek joota hai and my bracelet, kabse pehen raha hoon.
• Do you have any regrets from the past?
No, not at all.

Mumbai: Film producer Ravi Kapoor has received a threat from gangster Ravi Pujari for ‘allegedly’ showing his wife in an objectionable manner in his forthcoming film.
Kapoor has produced a film—World Cupp 2011—which seeks to expose cricket matchfixing and the role of the underworld. One of the scenes shows Pujari’s wife consuming liquor and laying bets on a match. Kapoor said he received a call from the elusive Pujari who abused and threatened him. He wanted all references to his wife to be deleted from the movie, failing which he threatened to eliminate Kapoor.
“My maiden movie is based on real-life incidents and it is shocking that the underworld is now censoring Hindi movies,’’ Kapoor said on Monday. “Luckily, I recorded the telephone conversation so I have proof of the threat. I have complained to the crime branch,’’ he added. Pujari is based in an undisclosed foreign location from where he is conducting his operations, said sources. He was earlier with Chhota Rajan, but is on his own now. He has, in the past, targeted director Mahesh Bhatt and noted criminal lawyer Majid Memon.
The film uses the original names of gangsters like Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan, Ravi Pujari, Chhota Shakeel et al. It also deals with Pujari’s attempt on the life of Bhatt.
“I will reveal the real reason for Ravi Pujari’s boys opening fire on Bhatt. I will also show why Chhota Rajan had attacked drug dealer Amjad Quereshi. I have openly taken the names of underworld figures who are implicated in match-fixing rackets because I want people to know the truth about cricket’’ Kapoor said. Kapoor said he has directed the film himself “as no other director was ready to take up this assignment.’’ He has also referred to big bookies like Shobhan Mehta, Laxmi Thane et al by their original names in the film, which is due for release on December 18.
