Dum Maaro Dum has grossed more in Mysore than East Punjab which has never happened before for a major film. In East Punjab it collected 1.17 crore nett including paid previews while Mysore was 1.21 crore nett including paid previews.

This is because the collections are very good in Mysore but very bad in East Punjab. The East Punjab and Mysore weekend numbers for major films released this year are as follows.

Dum Maaro Dum opens to dull houses

0

- By Taran Adarsh, April 22, 2011 – 16:58 IST

Despite the fact that Friday is a National Holiday, DUM MAARO DUM opened to dull houses at major centres of the country. Of course, the opening trends of DUM MAARO DUM were better than Abhishek Bachchan’s last release GAME, but that’s no compliment.

The occupancy at multiplexes was slightly better, especially at metros, but the average occupancy was in 30% to 35% range [although a few venues reported better occupancy], while single screens were between 10% – 15% – 20%. The average opening, thus, stands at 25% – 30%. Meanwhile, the paid previews on Thursday recorded dull figures at most venues and one of the reasons could be the number of shows that were held. DUM MAARO DUM had screenings from 6 pm onwards and as many as 5 to 6 shows were held at some venues. The business, therefore, got divided.

In view of the fact that it’s a National Holiday, the morning and noon shows of DUM MAARO DUM should’ve started on 50% – 60% note at least. The terrific promotions as well as no major opposition to contend with are two factors that go in its favor. But Punjabi film DHARTI, starring Jimmy Sheirgill [in North India] and Telugu film MR. PERFECT, starring Prabhas [in South India], besides the IPL matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, respectively are likely to prove tough opponents.

Let’s hope the evening and night shows of DUM MAARO DUM show a major jump. Fingers crossed!

GOLMAAL 3 2ND WEEK STARTS ON A STRONG NOTE

Golmaal 3 recorded very good collections of around 4.75 crore nett on its second Friday. The film dropped in Mumbai but it had to happen as the first week in Mumbai circuit was earth shattering. The film has smashed the first week record of 3 Idiots even if we include the paid previews of that film.

The film has set new first week circuit records in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Bihar, CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan, Assam and Orissa while in Mumbai, West Bengal, Nizam/Andhra, Mysore and Tamil Nadu/Kerala the records of Three Idiots have held up. The collections over the second weekend should also be very good.

Meanwhile, Dabangg had a very good second Friday with business coming in around 6.20 crore nett as per early estimates. The 8 day business of the film is 87.25 crore nett plus. Dabangg should easily cross the 100 crore nett mark by the end of its second weekend. The ten day business should be in 103-105 crore nett range. The Friday business was better than Thursday. We Are Family opens well on Thurs; falls on Fri

Saturday 4th September 2010 09.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

We Are Family got the benefit of Janmashtami holiday on Thursday as it recorded good collections. However it could not make much impact on its first full day (Friday) despite doing well on its partial release day (Thursday). This was probably due to fact that the film had seen a partial Thursday release which was a holiday and collections tend to fall after holidays. Also the first few shows on Friday are mainly dominated by the youth which is not the target audience for We Are Family. The business on Friday was around the 3 crore nett mark.

The overall total of 5.75 crore nett business (Thurs+Fri) is good but the the drop in business despite more shows at many theatres on Friday is not a good sign.

The fate of the film will be decided by its business on Saturday and Sunday, it will need to show healthy jumps as compared to Friday business. The Delhi and East Punjab area is showing best business.

The other releases Emotional Atyachar and Mallika were dull and will make no impact at the box office.

Aashayein recorded poor first week collections of around 3 crore nett. FLOP

Lafangey Parindey dropped in week two with around 4.75 crore nett business. The two week total is around 21.75 crore nett.

Salim Khan to distribute Dabangg in CI and Rajasthan

Title We Are Family is not just apt for the Karan Johar production, it pretty much holds true for Khan family as well. With Dabangg looking piping hot and all set to be a huge earner at the box office, the Khan family has now come together to rake in some good moolah as well. Rather than selling the film to outside distributors, Khans have decided to keep a major chunk of it within the family and extend the adage of ‘all in the family’.

As per the latest developments, Salim Khan (father of Arbaaz, Salman and Sohail) would be distributing the film in CI and Rajasthan territories. This is not all as producer Arbaaz himself would distribute the film in Delhi, UP and East Punjab – some of the most lucrative territories that the country has after Mumbai.

Says a trade observer, “It was imperative that the family sticks to the film right through the release as well as post that rather than just releasing it for money and being happy with whatever they earned. Ensuring that distribution stays with them is also a means of telling the world that they are mighty confident of the film’s prospects.”

Arbaaz doesn’t deny that he is confident about the film but also adds that distributing a film is nothing new for the family.

“Yes, the film is turning out to be huge and congratulatory messages have started coming in advance. It is always a good sign”, he says while keeping his excitement in check,
