Remaking the Amitabh Bachchan classic DON was a risk in itself. Not only because it is one of Bachchan's most iconic characters, but also because films like SHOLAY, DON, AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY, DEEWAR, TRISHUL, MUQADDAR KA SIKANDER [and many, many more] redefined the cinema of 1970s and 1980s. Farhan Akhtar accepted the challenge and attempted a successful remake of DON with SRK.
Paanch saal baad, Farhan and his team of writers decide to carry the concept frontward with DON 2. I genuinely feel that sequels shouldn't be attempted if you don't have an enthralling story to narrate. This time, Farhan chooses an entirely new concept, garnishes it with classic action, stunning visuals, giving it an international look and feel… the intention is to make the second part superior and enhanced than the first. Also, the fascination for thrillers such as M.I., BOURNE and BOND series is pretty evident.
While one was abundantly aware of what the first part had to offer [since it was a remake], one is completely oblivious about what the sequel has in store. And it is this facet of the film that kindles colossal interest. You cannot tell what Don's next move would be. As the reels unfold, you realize that he's cold blooded. You can't mess with him. THE KING IS BACK!
The Xmas-New Year is a great time for Bollywood. Celebration mood is at an all time high. People are ready to spend and splurge on entertainment activities, particularly movies! Hence, films, if received well, record favourable collections during weekdays too! And this celebration period gives scope to not one but even 2 films as proved by the success of Avatar-3 Idiots (2009) and Welcome-Taare Zameen Par (2007) – films that released during this period and nicely coexisted! So imagine only 1 film, Don 2, up for release this Xmas-New Year’s! Imagine the kind of business it can do if it’s well-made!
Don 2 is a sequel to the successful Don which was a remake of the 1978-Amitabh starrer of the same name. The promo was unveiled 5 months back with Singham and has been keenly awaited ever since. The highlights of the film should be the action scenes, terrific clapworthy dialogues and of course SRK himself who looks supercool as the wicked Don! And not to forget…Hrithik Roshan also features in the film in a cameo appearance and the SRK-Hrithik fight will be a treat to witness! Priyanka looks great as always and so does Lara Dutta! As for SRK, he seems to have done a great job yet again and looks so great in the jail scenes! This reminds me…how did he land up in the prison? And why? How will he escape? Too many questions…too much curiosity!
