Celebrated lensman Jagdish Mali, who was known by the less-informed only for his portraits on Rekha, passed away at noon on May 13. Bombay Times was fortunate to get some exclusive pictures shot by Jagi. A couple of months ago, the photographer was put in an embarrassing spot when a segment of the media reported that he was going through bad days. Fortunately, in his lifetime, he managed to regain some of his lost glory in print. Jagi lost his battle with life after he suffered a fall and was admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital. His actress-daughter Antara and son-in-law Che Kurien paid him frequent visits in the last week. The news of his death came as a rude shock to the Bollywood celebrities whom he had photographed in his halcyon days.

In his four-decade-long career, Jagi had a wide and illustrious portfolio. His father was an artiste and Jagi, who grew up in the middle-class bylanes of Bandra East, started his life shooting unusually sharp pictures of everyday life. Fate, of course, had other plans. Celebrities sought him out and got him to shoot their pictures because his camera often spoke more eloquently than he did.

Fastidious and moody like most artistes, Jagi would only shoot when he was inspired. MADHURI DIXIT: Rishi and Ranbir Kapoor were not the only fathers-on jodi that Mads got to romance. In Feroz Khan’s 1988 film Dayavan, she was paired opposite Vinod Khanna. At that time, Madhuri was 20 and Vinod 42 but their sensuous song together, Aaj phir tumpe, became a rage. Nine years later, Madhuri was paired opposite Vinod Khanna’s son Akshaye in Mohabbat which was directed by her then manager Rakesh Nath’s wife Reema.

DIMPLE KAPADIA: Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia came together in 1984 with Manzil Manzil. Later, Dharmendra acted with Dimple in Mast Kalandar in 1991 and, in fact, both of them even had a kiss in their next film Dushman Devta which also released in 1991.

SRIDEVI: This is a rare case when an actress worked with the son first and then the father. In 1990, Sridevi worked with Dharmendra as his lead in a film called Naka Bandi. Got Kabir Sadanand to meet Akshay, get the film started

Their first production – Umesh Shukla’s Oh My God – won the National Award for Best Screenplay. And now, Ashwini Yardi and Akshay Kumar are gearing up for their next venture titled Fugly, written and directed by Kabir Sadanand.

Akshay’s mother-in-law Dimple Kapadia introduced Kabir to Ashwini when the Grazing Goat Pictures’ creative team was busy leafing through scripts for their next. It hasn’t been decided but Dimple may well return to the silver screen with this film. Said Ashwini: “We liked the passion Kabir brought to the table, and it reflected in his script.”

A source close to the film said: “After OMG, Akshay went through at least 100 scripts for their next. That’s when Dimple introduced Kabir to Ashwini and initiated the meeting.” The duo zeroed in on Fugly, which they felt would strike a chord with families, especially the youth. “Casting for the film will begin soon and it will have fresh faces. It isn’t clear yet whether Dimple will be part of it. The film is about young rebels and will be mostly shot in the capital,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Kabir is irked with Anurag Kashyap, who has started shooting for his next, whose title rhymes with Fugly – Ugly. Documents show Advani listed as spouse, allotted a flat as Anita F Rodricks

Dimple Kapadia may have been silent about Anita Advani’s claims —emotional and otherwise — over Rajesh Khanna, but she now has a document which could act as clinching evidence in her fight against the ‘other woman’.

Anita had filed a case under the Domestic Violence Act against Dimple, Twinkle and Rinkie and Akshay Kumar, claiming that she was in a “domestic relationship” with Kaka and demanded a share of his property and assets.

Kaka’s family, represented by Advocates Shirish Gupte, Mahesh Jethmalani and Girish Kulkarni, had argued that despite her claims, Anita was actually married to some Mr Rodricks.

The family recently received a reply under the RTI Act from the Slum Rehabilitation Authority that shows Anita as Anita F Rodricks, next to one Rodricks Victor Anthony. While Anita’s name appears under the column ‘Spouse Name/Second Name’, Victor’s name appears under the column ‘Head of the family’. It also has her picture alongside.

There is also an allotment letter issued by developer Steven Fernandez in August 2004 to “Smt Anita Rodricks”, intimating her about the flat. It was against a slum tenement held by the Rodricks family in Kitkatwadi, Bandra West.

Bombay High Court stays Anita Advani’s petition

In what must be a respite for Rajesh Khanna’s family, the Bombay High Court yesterday stayed till December 17 the proceedings in the case by Anita Advani who has claimed to have been in a live-in relationship with the late superstar. The proceedings in a Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court at Bandra were stayed by Justice K U Chandiwal, who issued a notice to Advani, who claims that she looked after the actor in the last few years of his life as a wife. She also claimed to have video and photographs to show that she has fasted for him on Karwa Chauth and celebrated Ganpati with him at the bungalow.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Dimple and Akshay Kumar challenging the processes started by the magistrate against them and other family members. Twinkle and Rinke, Khanna’s daughters, are also in the process of filing similar petitions.

Advani, in her complaint against Dimple and others, claimed she was driven out of Khanna’s bungalow Ashirwad after his death and sought maintenance from the actor’s estate.

Dimple contended that she was the legally wedded wife of Khanna and as such no other woman can claim share in the wealth left behind by her husband.The Magistrate, Dimple argued, should not have entertained the complaint that made “baseless” charges.

Actor Dimple Kapadia on Friday filed a petition in the Bombay High Court asserting she was late superstar Rajesh Khanna’s legally wedded wife till his death, and no other woman thus could seek a share in his vast wealth by claiming to have been in a relationship with him.

Dimple’s petition, supported by another almost identical plea submitted by her son-in-law Akshay Kumar, follows just days after a magistrate’s court in Bandra suggested that she arrive at a settlement with Anita Advani, who claims to have been in a live-in relationship with Khanna and has sought access to his palatial Carter Road bungalow ‘Aashirwad’ and a monthly maintenance of Rs 10 lakh.

Advani has filed a case of domestic violence against Dimple, her two daughters Twinkle and Rinke, and son-in-law Akshay Kumar for evicting her from Aashirwad after Khanna’s death on July 18.

While Dimple’s position on being Khanna’s wife is technically correct, it’s common knowledge that she was estranged from her husband for many years and lived a separate life. She and her daughters, who rallied around the superstar only during his last days, have now closed ranks again against Advani.

THE sordid saga of lovers Anita Advani and Rajesh Khanna has taken a perverse twist, as lurid details of their 33-year-long affair come to light.

Earlier this month, Advani moved the Magistrate’s Court at Bandra with a Domestic Violence complaint, a follow-up to her legal notice to Khanna’s family sent in June, which was first reported by MiD DAY.

Seduced and exploited

The complaint names Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle Rajiv Bhatia (Twinkle Khanna), Rinki Saran (Rinki Khanna), and Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia (Akshay Kumar) as respondents. It appears that Khanna pursued Anita right from the time they were first introduced, when Anita was just 13 years old. “Rajesh Khanna had suddenly grabbed and kissed the complainant (Anita). Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have been blessed with a baby girl on Tuesday morning. And in proud papa Akshay’s words, the little one is “just like her mother and grandmother (Dimple Kapadia)”.

Incidentally, on Monday evening, Akshay was in Jaipur to promote his upcoming film OMG Oh My God, when he received a call from home. Quoting, ‘urgent family issues’ as the reason, he flew back to Mumbai to be by his wife Twinkle’s side as she went into labour.

The next morning, at South Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, Twinkle delivered a baby girl. “I have no words to express my happiness. I would like to thank everyone for their blessings and best wishes,” Akshay told the media.

According to sources, Twinkle had a normal delivery and both mother and daughter are doing fine.

The 45-year-old actor married Twinkle (37) in January 2001. They already have a son, Aarav who was born in 2002.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna were blessed with a daughter Tuesday morning. This is the couple’s second child after 10-year-old son Aarav.

“Twinkle was blessed with a baby girl this morning,” Twinkle’s mother, veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, told IANS.

Twinkle delivered the baby at the Breach Candy Hospital here.

“Both mother and daughter are fine,” Vijay Zaveri, a family friend told IANS.

Akshay has been busy promoting his forthcoming film “OMG Oh My God”, set to release Friday. He was by his wife’s side to welcome their daughter.
