MAMI (Mumbai Academy Of Moving Images) has decided to felicitate the legendary actor Manoj Kumar with the lifetime achievement award at the 12th Mumbai Film Festival.

Narayanan, the director of MAMI confirms, “We are conferring the award on Manoj Kumar. It will be presented to him at the festival award function on October 28. His contribution to Indian cinema is considerable. No Independence Day is complete without songs from his films.”

We extend our heartiest congratulations to the actor.

Not too long ago however, the MAMI jury had approached Waheeda Rehman for the same award but she had turned it down. When asked, the director admits this but refuses to comment on the reason why Rehman turned it down.

So we approach the veteran actress for her opinion. Rehman says, “With due respect to the jury and MAMI, I thought I didn’t deserve it. For a very long time, I have not done anything worthwhile.

After Guide and Pyaasa I didn’t get roles, I didn’t do films, I was away. I am thankful to them for considering me. That itself is an award for me.”

The senior actress feels that Manoj Kumar is definitely a more worthy contender. “He is a great director, writer and actor. He has contributed to the industry a lot more than I have.”

Indra Kumar doubles Dhamaal 2 writer’s fee

Overjoyed with the narration of the script of Double Dhamaal, Indra Kumar doubles the writers’ fee

MUMBAI MIRROR; August 16, 2010

Script writers in Bollywood are known to be the worst paid; barring the big-budgeted Blue of course (the film had no script). But Indra Kumar has decided to make amends. For Double Dhamaal, a sequel to his earlier film Dhamaal, the director has decided to pay his writers double the remuneration that was offered to them earlier.

The reason: apparently, Indra was beside himself with joy after hearing the script of the film.

Our source said, “Last week, Indra Kumar had the narration for the final draft of Double Dhamaal. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Ritesh Deshmukh amongst others. The writers of the film Tushar Hiranandani (story-screenplay) and Sajid-Farhad (dialogues) were present there. So happy was Indra Kumar after the narration that he promised them double the amount of their fee.”

When contacted, Indra Kumar said, “Yes it is true. I loved the work of Tushar and Sajid-Farhan a lot. It was something that I promised instinctively and I think they deserve it.”

Writer Tushar Hiranandani said, “Yes Indraji liked our script so much that he doubled our fee.” Recession’s history for sure.
