Miss India 2009 Pooja Chopra denies that she will debut with Jackie Bhagnani in Faltu By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 20, 2010)

// // // Contrary to reports that Miss India 2009, Pooja Chopra, will star opposite Jackie Bhagnani in his father Vashu Bhagnani’s film Faltu, the truth is that Pooja is not doing the film.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror yesterday, Pooja said that she was grossly upset with Vashu for leaking it to the press that she was doing the film before she had signed it.

Pooja said that Vashu offered her Faltu before she embarked for the Miss India contest.  “The next thing I know is that there were reports saying that I am doing his film. My agency got into action and did some damage control. You see, I am not supposed to sign any film till I crown my successor, which will happen in April 2010. But I am definitely not going to sign Faltu even now because this whole incident has left me with a very sour taste.”

Pooja said that Vashu’s premature announcement was careless and unprofessional, and it created a mess for her. She said, “I have also been in talks with other producers who want to launch me. When they heard that I am doing Vashu’s film, they were extremely puzzled and I had a lot of explaining to do.”

When asked if she would prefer her career to flag off opposite a bigger star than Jackie, Pooja was diplomatic. She said, “I am nobody to judge who is big or small. For all you know, Faltu More >

This March, Barbara Mori and Hrithik Roshan to share an intimate moment at the Taj Mahal, though Rakesh Roshan denies it

By Zain Merchant (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 20, 2010)

// // // For lovers, the ultimate ode is the Taj Mahal. The Barbara Mori and Hrithik Roshan romance has been written about, but so far it has done nothing but create trouble for the Kites co-stars.

Mumbai Mirror gazed into the crystal ball and saw Barbara and Hrithik at the monument of love in Agra in March. The prophecy also says that they obviously will be seen together, very much in love.

Barbara Mori Hrithik Roshan

And the intimate moment, unfortunately, shall find its way into the press. It might confirm the now on-off romance but nevertheless it has tremendous potential to work in the film’s favour, if the makers are smart about it.

Of course, the film’s publicity is slated to begin only a few weeks prior to the film’s release on May 21. But no one grudges two people in love a quiet moment in the moonlit shadow of the Taj Mahal.

However, Rakesh Roshan, the director of Kites, says, “It’s not true. Barbara will be in India only around May 8.”

Aishwarya reacts to the story on her pregnancy

MUMBAI MIRROR (February 19, 2010)

I read your article ‘Pregnant Pause’ in your paper Mumbai Mirror on page 27 on February 18, 2010. (READ THE ARTICLE HERE!)

I am completely shocked, appalled and extremely upset with the contents of the article. I completely deny the report. It is fabricated and false. It is very disappointing that your office did not even bother to verify this article with me, my family, my spokesperson or my office. I would think it only ethical and correct to get the person in question’s side of the story or verification before printing such news.

Katrina Kaif with Isabelle

Katrina Kaif and her mother Susana Mary Turcotte have categorically denied that the picture of the girl seen in the explicit MMS clip titled ‘Isabelle Kaif’ has anything to do with Katrina’s sister Isabelle.

The look-alike’s video clip, which has been around for some time now, has caused enough grief in the past for the Kaifs.

The 17-year-old Isabelle, Katrina’s youngest sister, is currently studying acting in New York and shortly expected to join Katrina in Mumbai to pursue a career in films.

In the story ‘Sex Lies and Videotape’ (READ HERE) carried yesterday, Mumbai Mirror regrets the reference to Katrina’ sister and apologises for the trauma it has caused Katrina and her family.

Katrina’s new mantra:no exposure, no kissing

Katrina Kaif swears that she won’t lock lips on screen ever again after her passionate kissing scene in New York By Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 03, 2010)

// // // In all her films so far, Katrina Kaif has kissed only once, in Kabir Khan’s New York. She decided she wasn’t too comfortable doing it, and told a close friend that she had decided never do another kissing sequence again.

Katrina has now decided to make it official. She won’t do a kissing sequence, even if the producer-director uses the oldest trick to persuade her: the script demanded it.

Says a friend of the actress, “Katrina has said no to kissing scenes in all her films barring New York. And believe me, the directors are very keen to see her kiss her co-stars. Katrina cleverly keeps dodging all the so-called must-kiss scenes. She is a very conservative girl at heart. In fact, when reports claimed that she was going to wear a bikini in Dostana 2, a la Priyanka Chopra in the first Dostana, Katrina protested violently and made it clear to producer Karan Johar and director Tarun Mansukhani: no exposure, no kissing.”

Says Katrina, “I don’t deny I’ve done scenes in the past where I did things that I wasn’t comfortable with. But now I won’t. I just don’t feel comfortable doing kissing scenes, or for that matter, wearing a bikini on screen.”

In both, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Raajneeti, there was apparently a request for a kiss with Ranbir Kapoor.

Katrina said a polite but firm no.

Stars bitten by the Twitter bug

Bharati Dubey | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; January 25, 2010) Mumbai: It’s Twitter time in tinseltown. Long after young Hollywood czars and czarinas such as Ashton Kutcher and Lindsay Lohan took up tweeting, Bollywood’s badshahs are following suit.

It’s on Twitter that the latest goings-on are first heard: Actor Abhishek Bachchan was in Goa for the New Year. Film-maker Karan Johar talks about how Twitter is good for lonely souls like him. Actor Shah Rukh Khan is feeling “awful for the Indian hockey team. To play for the country…national sport and have to ask for salary and we complain we don’t win gold). Akshay Kumar, who has 20,000 followers, tweets about the karate tournament he plans to organise.

Johar’s home page shows how popular Twitter is in Bollywood: Sonakshi Sinha (Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter), Gul Panag, Neha Dhupia, Deepika Padukone, Sameera Reddy and Sophie Chaudhary have signed up on Twitter in the last 10 days.

Actors concede that Twitter has many advantages: confirming or denying a story is now easy. Khan, for instance, denied a story about Aishwarya Rai being a part of his next home production, ‘Ra1’.

It is also a platform to promote films. Some actors upload songs from their film, some discuss their next film and others talk about upcoming projects. Coming up on the Twitterway is a mutual admiration society: I loved the film, her role, what-have-you quotes.

Film-maker Mahesh Bhatt calls it the maxim of the now generation: “I tweet therefore I am. I More >

Jhenda delayed after Rane Jr’s objection

Ambarish Mishra | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; January 8, 2010)

Mumbai: Jhenda (Flag), a Marathi film by Avadhut Gupte, has stirred a hornet’s nest in political circles. Now, Congress minister Narayan Rane’s son, Nitesh Rane has objected to the plot of the film, which reportedly portrays the Raj -Uddhav Thackeray feud.

Swabhimaan, a socio-cultural outfit floated by Nitesh, has taken exception to a character in the film. Nitesh has alleged that the character closely resembles his father. Gupte has denied the charge, but has promised to make the necessary changes.

Jhenda, which was slated for release on Friday, has been postponed by a week. The Shiv Sena, however, has backed the film, which they said shows Uddhav in “a good light”. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, headed by Raj, has also agreed to okay Jhenda, though party activists have “certain misgivings” about the flick.

Gupte has maintained that his debutante venture is not so much a filmi take on the Uddhav-Raj spat as a tale of how politics affects the GenNext. The Sena-MNS activists are unanimous that Jhenda delineates the long-drawn war between the estranged Thackeray cousins.

“The film is a story of dynastic politics. Two young politicians, depicted as Uddhav-Raj clones, are the film’s protagonists,” pointed out a senior Sena functionary on Thursday, adding, “However, Jhenda has a pro-Uddhav tilt.”

Gupte organised a special screening for Bal Thackeray at Matoshree recently and the 80-plus Sena patriarch okayed the flick, More >

Frieda Pinto introduced boyfriend Dev Patel to her parents during a secret Christmas trip to Mumbai By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 05, 2010)

It’s a love story that’s been brewing for a while now, though both Dev Patel and his Slumdog Millionaire co-star Freida Pinto have carefully avoided either confirming or denying it in public. But after Dev’s mother confirmed that they are seeing each other, another little development seems to underline that the relationship may be headed towards more official territory.

Freida Pinto and Dev Patel

In a hush-hush visit, Frieda came to visit her parents in Mumbai over Christmas — and guess who accompanied her?

“Freida and Dev were in Mumbai last week for a couple of days. Dev visited her home in Malad where Freida introduced him to her parents and family,” reveals a source. “Dev was down here with a couple of his friends from London and they also partied in Mumbai. Freida took them around and in fact, both of them were seen at Hawaiian Shack. But they wanted to keep this visit low profile and made sure that their itinerary was kept under wraps.”

When contacted, actor Mridul Singhvi (who also manages the Bandra nightspot), confirmed, “Yes, Dev and Freida were here with a couple of friends on Wednesday night. We dedicated the song ‘Paper Planes’ from Slumdog Millionaire to them. We all were very excited to see them but they were extremely hesitant about their pictures being clicked.
