If in Housefull, her last film, the gorgeous Deepika Padukone wore bikinis and rode water scooters… get ready to see her in Bengal cotton sarees riding a bicycle in her next — Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.
The sexy actress plays freedom fighter Kalpana Dutta of the Chittagong Uprising of the 1930s. A role that has excited Deepika no end, because Kalpana was strong and feisty, among the first women freedom fighters of the country.
The film itself, jointly produced by Ajay and Sanjeev Bijli along with Sunita A Gowariker, is an epic period thriller based on the book Do And Die written by Kalpana’s daughter-in-law Manini Chatterjee. Acting opposite Deepika is Abhishek Bachchan. It is presented by AGPPL and PVR Pictures. Director Ashutosh Gowariker thought Deepika brought much energy to Kalpana Dutta’s character.
This film is being shot in Goa and Mumbai and is due for release on December 3. Javed Akhtar has written its lyrics with Sohail Sen doing the music. Designer Neeta Lulla’s designed the costumes. So if you see Deepika dressed in cotton sarees pedalling a cycle in the city… don’t be surprised. She’s quite enjoying the ride!
Neil smooches Deepika

This is funny. Neil Nitin Mukesh had to kiss Deepika Padukone on screen for their forthcoming film Lafangey Parindey and the actor reportedly got cold feet. Not because he’s a virgin screenkisser and, well, Deepika has the experience of kissing Saif Ali Khan before camera for Love Aaj Kal… but, apparently, because Neil’s had a no-kiss policy in all his films so far. His first director Sriram Raghavan had thrown a fit when Neil refused to kiss Rimi Sen. In his second film, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, director Sudhir Mishra insisted Neil kiss Shahana Goswami. But the actor refused. Even in Jail where there was a love-making scene with Mughda Godse, Neil refused to kiss the sultry actress. But Lafange Parindey director Pradeep Sarkar pulled the plug on Neil’s chastity vow. A source from the set said it was a long, torrid smooch comparable in intensity and duration to the Aamir Khan-Karisma Kapoor kiss in Raja Hindustani. And Neil was nervous! To be kissing the lovely Deepika! Makes us wonder…
David Dhawan’s son in KJo’s film?

It is set to be a dream launch. Varun Dhawan, younger son of former Bollywood box office pasha David Dhawan, has been signed by Karan Johar for a project that will take off in 2011.
Trade sources say that David was always clear that his older son Rohit will be a director and younger son Varun an actor. Rohit is meant to be directing Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Chitrangadha Singh and Deepika Padukone in Desi Boyz. And Varun was waiting in the wings till KJo discovered him.
Karan says, “The banner will launch two new boys in the same film. The details of the boys and the director are still in the process of finalisation there are no confirmations as yet.”
However, it is almost certain that Varun will be one of those boys. Incidentally, the director too will be a Dharma faithful. There was a time when David could have been the ideal filmmaker to launch his own son. He was ruling the BO with super-hits like Biwi No 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Coolie No 1 and many of those critically-spurned puerile super-hits. However, post Partner (again a huge hit) David is in semi-hibernation. In fact, after his Do Knot Disturb fiasco, the trade has been sceptical about DD’s box office prowess. The filmmaker has been signed for Sanjay Dutt’s Rascals with Sanju and Ajay Devgn in the lead.

Deepika Padukone has a new tattoo. No, this one’s nowhere close to her neck; it’s on her ankle

While Deepika Padukone hasn’t had her ‘RK’ tattoo removed, she has decided to take her own attention off it. What better way to do that, than by getting a new tattoo? Deepika has got herself a brand new tattoo, which looks like an anklet (payal). And it is on her left ankle.
Sources close to the actress informed that Deepika got the tattoo done when she was in London recently. “While there, she suddenly decided to get a tattoo done.
She was very excited about the tattoo and sat through the process easily. Since she has got one done before this, she knew how to handle the pain,” said the source.
While she’s ecstatic about her newly tattooed ankle, Deepika seemed a bit miffed that we had heard about it.
Initially, she was not too keen on discussing it but when we persisted, she revealed that it was a fresh tattoo. “I am not revealing when and where I got it done. But yes, it is a new tattoo. Obviously, you have not seen this before,” she said.

As for getting it done the second time, the actress seemed oddly fascinated about body art. She said, “This is the most painful place to get a tattoo done. And I love it.”

Paresh Rawal to play Rishi Kapoor in LAK

The Telugu version of Love Aaj Kal will have Paresh Rawal playing Rishi Kapoor’s old sardarji role

Imtiaz Ali’s blockbuster Love Aaj Kal will soon have its Telegu remake. And to play Rishi Kapoor’s role of the sprightly old sardarji, Paresh Rawal will be stepping in.
Directed by Jayanth Paranji, who also made Munnabhai MBBS in Telegu, the film will have Pawan Kalyan playing Saif Ali Khan’s role and Ileana D’cruz playing Deepika Padukone’s.
Jayanth who has done two Telugu films with Paresh Rawal confesses that he couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role. “Paresh is an incredible artiste. This is a small part but I knew he will bring in a lot,” says the director.
The plot of the film however will undergo a few changes.
The director admits that though the essence of the story will be the same, the film will be a different take on Love Aaj Kal.
Unlike LAK, in which Rishi Kapoor narrates the story of his younger days, Paresh will tell the story of a friend of his.

Deepika, Ranbir over and out?

Despite their best efforts, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone fail to rekindle their relationship

Not too long ago, this newspaper had reported that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are finally sorting out their differences and are back to being a couple again. Regrettably, that’s not happening. This love story does not have a happy ending.
After much discussion and rumination, Ranbir and Deepika are not reconciling. The man in question is not ready to make a commitment at this stage in his career.
Mumbai Mirror (May 7, 2010) had reported that the couple tried to resolve their differences on the condition that Ranbir wouldn’t encourage his “friendships” with PYTs and Deepika on her part would give him breathing space.
The couple in fact went to watch Housefull together in a Juhu multiplex (which we reported this on May 3, 2010). While both the actors had chosen to make amendments and abide by them to give their relationship another shot, it all fell apart recently.
A source says, “Ranbir and Deepika even had a tiff on the issue of commitment. A few days ago Deepika left for London to attend the Grand Prix.
Deepika is looking for a full long-term commitment from Ranbir but he wants to remain single for reasons best known to him. This led to an argument between them.”
However, we hear, that Deepika is still a bit optimistic. She has sent feelers to Imtiaz Ali’s crew that she may be visiting the sets of Rockstar, which stars Ranbir.
This would once again throw the two of them in close contact with each other.
The source adds, “Deepika still loves Ranbir very much. She still hasn’t got the tattoo RK off her nape.”
Despite sending text messages, both actors remained unavailable for comment.

• What do you play in Aisha?
I play a naive girl who has a very narrow view of life and does not understand what is going on in the outside world.
• At 26, how would you describe yourself?
Quite like Aisha (laughs). I am still trying to figure out a lot of things and finding my way.
• If still confused, who do you look up to?
Both, my dad and my mum. Also, I have a few friends I trust completely.
• You said you have strong views on selecting films. Do you have a list of dont’s like not wearing a bikini or not kissing?
No. I am talking about roles. But as for your question, well, I won’t do anything provocative. I won’t do anything for the heck of it to sell a film. If it’s taking the story forward, then it’s fine. It’s an ethical stand, I believe.
• Filmmakers have to go through your dad before they come to you.
Not really. My dad is not going to play my role in any film. They come to me. I take a call. I do have strong views in this aspect. But after a certain point, my dad does get in. I don’t want to concentrate on the details that follow.
• Do you check with him before doing a particular role?
Of course. What is the point of having him as my dad? I think that every child looks up to his parents.
• Did you and your sister Rhea argue on the sets of Aisha?
Rhea is very practical and pragmatic. I am very emotional and impulsive. So that makes a good head and heart combination. Such things work, don’t they?
• Are you ready to work with Ranbir after your link up with him in Saawariya?
I have no rules for who my hero is. If my role is good, why not?
• You and Deepika Padukone are not the best of friends, right? You tried to patch up but things didn’t fall in place…
Ranbir and I have been friends. Deepika was Ranbir’s girlfriend. That was the only connection. Right now, I don’t have the time to meet all my friends.
• You once said, “I wish I had a body like Deepika’s”.
Oh, that was just a random statement.
• Ranbir came to you on the sets of Aisha and told you to take him back in your life. Correct?
Not true.
• Is your father strict?
He is definitely protective about me. He doesn’t want me to do anything wrong. I am not allowed late nights. But then, even I am a very responsible girl.
• Who is your worst critic?
My mum, who doesn’t want me to lose my head.
• You dress up rather well. Is it a self-acquired skill?
(Laughs) It stems from my mother’s side. My mom has been into fashion designing. I love her style. Even my masi is very aesthetically inclined.
• Why is it that you wear so many branded clothes? Industry people say so…
That’s not true. I do wear many vintage clothes too. If required, I will wear a simple sari. I pick up tees and jeans from streets as well.

• Correct me if I am wrong but did you ever wish to be a beauty queen?
Yeah (laughs) I even wanted to be a detective. And then I wanted to be a teacher. At 16, I decided that I want to be a writer. And then, I ultimately felt that I wanted to be an actress.
• Have you met Aishwarya Rai after last year’s fiasco during the Cannes festival?
Yes. I met her at a party and she was extremely gracious and kind. At the end of it, it was all a big misunderstanding
• Shahid Kapoor has got linked up to Amrita Rao (Dil Vil Pyar Vyar), Vidya Balan (Kismat Connection), Priyanka Chopra (Kaminey) and Anushka Sharma (Badmaash Company). How have you avoided that (so far)?
(Laughs) I think that depends on who your producer and director is.
• Are you dating anybody though? There was so much talk of you dating Punit Malhotra during I Hate Luv Storys?
I am very much single. But I wouldn’t like to elaborate.
• The interview would be incomplete if you don’t name your favourite Anil Kapoor film.
That’s the toughest one. I really can’t choose between Woh Saat Din, Tezaab, Beta, Ram Lakhan and Slumdog Millionaire.

Deepika Padukone is flying to London for the F1 Grand Prix

Last year, Deepika Padukone accompanied Vijay Mallaya (owner of Force India Racing Team), at the World Championship Formula 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. Now, she is getting all ready to visit London for the same event this year, which will take place this Sunday.
However, this time, she will be converting her trip into a holiday, to be with some of her friends who she hasn’t met in a long time. A source says, “Deepika has four friends in London. She hasn’t caught up with them since a very long time. They have been coaxing her to come over. What better occasion than now?”
Deepika is expected to reach London by Friday.
This would give her two days before the event. She also plans to stay back for three more days after the event is over.
Sonam refuses to work with Deepika?

Is Ranbir Kapoor the reason why the two can’t see eye to eye?

At the time Bhansali’s Saawariya was being shot, Ranbir Kapoor had been linked with his co-star Sonam Kapoor. After finishing the film though, Ranbir was in a steady relationship with actress Deepika Padukone for two years.
What’s interesting though is that the two ladies in question have never seen eye to eye. The fact that both of them refused to do a cover shoot together for a leading fashion magazine, not too long ago, proves this in no uncertain way.

Both Deepika and Sonam have tried hard to paint a very different picture, of course. However, a new case again hints at the fact that not all is well between the ladies, especially when it comes to sharing screen space.
Recently, Sonam refused to star in David Dhawan’s son Rohit Dhawan’s directorial debut Desi Boys, which also stars Deepika, who plays John Abraham’s love interest. Producers of the film, Eros International, had approached Sonam to star opposite Akshay Kumar. Sonam politely declined the offer. A source from the unit of the film confirmed, “Sonam declined Desi Boys because she wanted to avoid sharing screen space with Deepika.”
A close friend of Sonam’s however stands up for her and says, “She is very busy shooting for Mausam and Thank You. She had no dates for Desi Boys.” Well, we hope things resolve themselves.
