Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, who once avoided each other completely, are likely to perform together at a show in Las Vegas
It seems Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone have buried the hatchet. Both the actresses will be seen performing together at a show in Las Vegas this December.
Earlier, we had reported that Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan were going to perform at this show in Las Vegas. Now, a brand new addition to the clan is Deepika Padukone. And if all goes well, Deepika and Katrina will perform together on stage as a part of this show.
The last time Deepika got uncomfortable with Katrina was over Ranbir Kapoor. Deepika had flown down to Bhopal where Ranbir was shooting with Katrina for Raajneeti, fearing that Ranbir and Kats might be getting too close for comfort. At that time, Deepika and Ranbir were in a very steady relationship.
But even after the two broke up, Deepika did not quite warm up to Kats. Recently, when both actresses bumped into each other at a photo shoot, they almost looked through each other.
Now, that Ranbir is completely out of Deepika’s life (which she has more than reaffirmed by tattooing her own initials on her foot) it seems Deepika has no issues in being civil (for starters) with Katrina.
The two are getting ready to set the stage on fire for a forthcoming show in Las Vegas on December 18.
A source reveals, “The organisers were a little apprehensive about pulling this show off but it seems everything is falling into place. Both the girls (Deepika and Katrina) have worked out their dates and have given a green signal to this show.”
The spokesperson of Carving Dreams (organisers of the show), neither confirmed nor denied the news.
Vivek Oberoi has turned into a hopeless romantic. He’s so besotted by his wife-to-be that he has been writing poetry about her.
Vivek says, “We’ve discovered a whole universe in each other’s life. I live in a world of masks. I needed someone as real as she is.”
Though Priyanka’s father is no more, her mother adores Vivek. “She’s a major exponent of art. Our two families have been friends for years. My family has earned great respect and dignity beyond cinema. Even on a personal level it’s taken me a long time to overcome the cynicism about my work outside movies.”And Vivek is a new person now.
His bride-to-be Priyanka Alva has been in and out of Mumbai lately overlooking the construction of the couple’s dream house in Juhu.
Says Vivek, “The process of building a home has brought us much closer. She’s really good at aesthetics. Of course I will continue to stay with my parents. That can never change.”
About the marriage, Vivek says, “It was arranged kam love zyada. Within 20 minutes I felt I had known her all my life. She belongs to Karnataka’s closely-knit Bant community. Her grandfather fought the Freedom Movement side by side with Gandhiji.”
That’s the past and about their future, Vivek adds, “Priyanka has her dancing. I have my acting. But our social work is the food for our soul.”
The wedding will have limited attendance though, Vivek tells us. “It’s in Bangalore but the reception in Mumbai is for all my friends within and outside the film industry.”
And a honeymoon has not been planned after the wedding. Vivek adds, “I’ve the most understanding wife. I requested her to postpone the honeymoon because of my workload. We will be going on a really special honeymoon in December.”

Sanjay Dutt is one man most people look up to as a person who has lived through much and yet has a smile on his face. Well for Dutt fans, there is some good news. Farah Khan’s film Tees Maar Khan starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif which is scheduled to hit screens in December will feature Sanjay Dutt’s voice. You read it right.
It is learnt that Sanjay Dutt will be the sutradhaar (narrator) of the film. His narrative has been penned by Shirish Kunder and his voice will also be featured in the trailers of Tees Maar Khan.
It was Shirish’s idea to have Dutt introduce the various characters at the beginning of the film. However, the interesting part is that Dutt isn’t charging a single penny for doing so.
Amitabh Bachchan is a busy bee a couple of days ahead of his 68th. He is shooting simultaneously for his new film Power, directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, and Kaun Banega Crorepati.
A few nights ago he stole the show walking the ramp for Karan Johar. His energy is at an all-time high.
Excerpts from a tête-à-tête.
So, all set for the birthday celebrations at home?
Hold on! There will be no celebrations at home. Of course, if people come over unannounced, they’re most welcome. I’ll be opening KBC this day. I have been working late into the nights recording promos for the show.
Is Rajnikanth coming to Mumbai for your birthday?
There are no such plans. But we’ve great affection for one another. I met Rajni for the first time in Chennai when I was shooting at the AVM Studios. He came across and met me. We’ve been friends ever since. He’s such a humble and simple human being. So down-to-earth… how he remains that way with the kind of fan-following he has is a mystery.
His wife has been a wonderful support. She has brought up their children so well. Every time I am in Chennai, I call and visit him. We call each other whenever the need arises.
What did you think of Robot?
What a massive achievement! Great entertainer. It’s all Rajni and Shankar and their hard work.
On the eve of your birthday you rocked on the ramp.
Thank you… Kya Karen, karna padta hai kissi terah.
How do you it?
Keep crossing new thresholds in your career?
I don’t know about that. I had walked the ramp just once… no twice before, but both times for a cause. This time, I did it because Karan (Johar) asked. I can’t say no to Karan. He is family.
Walking the ramp looks easy enough from the other side. When you look at the models doing it you say, ‘Hey, it’s not a tough job at all.’ But once you go up there you really start admiring them. It’s not just a simple walk. It’s actually a nightmare.
This time you seem very comfortable with your television appearance.
I’m going back to KBC after 10 years. I remember in 2000 when I did the show I was raw to the medium, very hesitant very nervous. That hasn’t changed.
Anytime I go in front of the camera for any medium there will be apprehensions. Creativity is an ongoing process. No matter how professional you are, it can never be enough. One can never be fully comfortable on television. It’s a frightening medium for me.
You seem to enjoy your interaction with the aam aadmi on KBC.
Yes, they all have such an interesting back story… where they came from, how they grew up.
This time on the show we actually follow the lives of the contestants to their roots. I actually get to see where they came from, what their parents and family think, etc.
The human-interest level is high this time. KBC can now be a life-changing moment for the contestant.
There are people coming on the show from places where the show did not reach earlier. For them KBC is an opportunity to make the kind of money in a hour that they’ve never seen before.
Television will occupy a lot of your time this year.
KBC will go on only until November or the first week of December. I have started shooting for Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Power, which will be followed by Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan. Then there’s Balki’s film. We’ve finally zeroed in on a subject. It will be produced by AB Corp Ltd.
The R&B sensation will record another song for SRK and shoot a music video also featuring Kareena and King Khan
Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; October 4, 2010)
Shah Rukh Khan will host singing sensation Akon at Mannat in December. The singer will be in town then to record another song for SRK. Akon, who has been bowled over by SRK and also the concept of his film Ra.1, has gelled well with the composers and loves their groovy tracks.
The last time Akon was in town, he became good friends with SRK and Kareena. They had a great session talking about their different cultures and knowing each other. Akon had said that Mumbai gives him the feeling that he is at home having also done a hit show here. He was taken by surprise when Shah Rukh threw a party in his honour in Mumbai and many people turned up. He felt really special working for SRK and he took back this warm feeling with him to the US.
During the London shooting schedule of the movie, SRK and the production team decided that since the movie had someone like Akon, they should showcase him more. They felt doing another song with him would help. SRK approached him and Akon probably tweaked his schedule to accommodate his trip to India.
When contacted, SRK told BT, “Yes Akon is set to do another song for us. We are just working on it to finalise things. December might be the month. We are excited to have him in our film.”
The master blaster has not agreed to do a role in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film
Meena Iyer | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; September 28, 2010)
Yes, you read it right. And Sachin Tendulkar fans who were hoping to see the master batsman in a different avatar in his second innings, will be sorely disappointed. Whatever he may choose to do, joining the ranks of his friends Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan in Bollywood is not on Tendulkar’s mind as an alternative career after cricket.
So, yes, while it is true that Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Ferrari Ki Sawari is likely to go on the floors by December, the lead actor of the film has not yet been decided. A source hinted, “Sharman Joshi is likely to be in the lead. However, Aamir Khan who recently returned from London has also promised Vidhu that he will read the script within the next month and let him know for sure whether he is on board. And if Aamir comes on board, then Ferrari Ki Sawari will be made with him and not Sharman.”
So, where does that leave Tendulkar — who the media on Monday wildly speculated might be the lead actor in Vidhu’s film? Nowhere! The batting maestro had never indicated that he wanted an acting job in the film. But, certainly, the car that is referred to in the script of the film is Tendulkar’s Ferrari all right. Then again, whether he will allow his sports car to be actually used in the shooting, or whether he might decide to do a cameo in Ferrari Ki Sawari, is the million dollar question right now.
A source from Vidhu’s unit said, “When did we say Tendulkar had confirmed his presence in the film? The call on whether he will give a shot in his Ferrari will only be taken after the lead actor is decided. And everyone on board is tight-lipped about the developments because many things stand to change if Aamir greenlights this project.” Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt also has a Ferrari similar to that of Tendulkar’s. And the Bollywood actor is keen to hear the script of the film from his Munnabhai producer!

Anushka Sharma, who made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, would be seen on the big screen yet again in Band Baaja Baaraat. This fun flick coming from the house of ‘Yash Raj Films’ releases all over on 10th December. However, call it sheer coincidence or a part of the plan but the fact remains that history would be repeating itself for the pretty girl. This is because Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi too had come around the same time when it released on 12th December 2008.
Says a trade observer, “This should be one lucky coincidence for the makers and Anushka here. After all Anushka has been enjoying a good innings so far in Bollywood. Her first film was a blockbuster while Badmaash Company, which was again a YRF production and had released earlier this year, was also an average success. She would well be looking at making a hat trick with Band Baaja Baaraat.”
While one looks forward to that happening, here is a hitch. While in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Badmaash Company she had Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor respectively to spearhead the show, in case of Band Baaja Baaraat she has (ironically) turned out to be the senior-most of the lot.
“That’s right”, continues the trade observer, “This time around, it appears to be Anushka all the way. Director Maneesh Sharma is a first timer though he was an Associate Director on Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. As for her leading man Ranveer Singh, he is a complete fresher with no modelling or acting experience. However, he managed to impress Aditya Chopra and hence he was on board without much ado.”
Still, one can’t help but wonder about the sudden release announcement of Band Baaja Baaraat. While the production house always had year end target in mind for the release of their fourth film this year (after Pyaar Impossible, Badmaash Company and Lafangey Parindey), 10th December arrival means that it would be stepping into an already cluttered season.
Starting this Friday, there is at least one biggie arriving practically every week. In fact there are also weeks when more than a couple of big films are anyways clashing with each other. In the month of December itself, there are confirmed plans for Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Anees Bazmee’s No Problem and Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan to arrive.
“Well, the situation is still better in December when compared to October, November or January’11″, argues a trade expert, “December still has a reasonable breathing space. There was no point in even thinking of January since there is already a huge volume of releases in the form of No One Killed Jessica, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Game and Saat Khoon Maaf. It’s better to arrive in a relatively opened up space in December. One now just hopes that there is not much spill-over of movies from October and November though.”
Meanwhile Anushka can expect her lucky charm of the month of December to come handy yet again!
Films starring Tom Cruise and Dev Patel are commencing production in the exotic state of Rajasthan starting October
After Danny Boyle directing Slumdog Millionaire, Julia Roberts shooting in Delhi for Eat Pray Love, and Ang Lee scouting location and talent for the Booker-winning Life Of Pi, India is continuing to woo top Hollywood A-listers.
Two more Hollywood films–Tom Cruise’s much-awaited Mission Impossible 4 and Fox Searchlight’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, starring Dev Patel– are both commencing production in Rajasthan come October.
A highly placed source informs, “Tom Cruise’s film is going on floors on October 10 in Udaipur. After finishing the two-month-long schedule in Udaipur, the crew will move to Jaipur for another month-long shoot.” Another source reveals, “They have booked rooms in Shiv Vilas, a five-star hotel in Jaipur.” The hotel authorities confirmed, “Yes, we got an inquiry from Tom Cruise’s Hollywood production film for bookings in November and December, but they haven’t confirmed yet.”
The source adds, “A Delhi-based production company, I Top, has been hired to do line production for the Tom Cruise film.”
Meanwhile, Fox Searchlight starts The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with Dev Patel in Udaipur. The film, which is based on Deborah Moggach’s book, These Foolish Things, tentatively stars Julie Christie, Judi Dench and Tom Wilkinson. The film is going on floors in October and will have two-and-a-half-month-long schedule.
A source informs, “India Take One Production, which did line production for Slumdog Millionaire, is handling the production of this one too. The work on this film is going on full-steam. Two weeks ago, they were casting for the supporting cast in Jaipur.”
Another reliable source informs, “The crew has hired a lot of props from Lalji handicrafts, an antique store based in Jodhpur. They have taken furniture, cabinets, glass, brass, silver items and carpets from them.”
|Julie Christie and Judi Dench are the tentative stars in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel|
Being such high profile films, the production teams of both movies are understandably operating in a tight-lipped, secretive manner. A source informs, “Even the people who have been hired to work on the projects are kept in dark about the star cast and details of the film till the time the shoot begins.” But we are a step ahead. Watch this space for more.

Kareena Kapoor is elated. She had one more reason to celebrate her birthday, yesterday. Salman Khan’s sister Alvira and her husband Atul Agnihotri have signed her as the female lead opposite the Dabangg phenomenon in their film Bodyguard.
The film will be directed by Siddique from Kerala who directed the original version. Bodyguard will mount the floors in December. Trade sources say that though the film is Salman-centric (now all his films will be that way), the female lead needed a very performanceoriented actor. Atul says, “When we saw the original version done by Nayantara, we were convinced that only Bebo could do the Hindi version.” Atul also sets the record straight on Katrina Kaif being chosen for the lead: “When a film is being launched, producers go through the thoughtprocess of which of the top three actresses can one cast. We also thought about who was best suited to Salman bhai in this film. But we hadn’t approached anyone. As I said, we were convinced from the start that Bebo would be the best choice.”
Atul says that since Bodyguard is a remake, the prep-work on the project is being approached in a very scientific way.
The film is being adapted for a Hindi-speaking audience. Pritam is working on the music and Atul and Alvira will be hands-on producers involved in the creative process as well, because Siddique is new to the Bollywood scene.
(for a film, and may be more)
One of Bollywood’s most legendary romances could well be rekindling. Katrina Kaif, they say, has gone back to Salman Khan.
Not so long ago, both Katrina and Salman were shouting from the rooptops that they were single. “But not anymore. They have reconciled their differences and are back together as a couple,” says a source.
One good indication of this patch-up is Bodyguard, Salman’s sister Alvira’s directorial debut, slated for Eid 2011, now a pretty auspicious date for the Khans given the stupendous success of Dabangg. Sources confirm that Katrina is slated to play the female lead.
Alvira always wanted Katrina for Bodyguard, but Sallu and Kat parted ways. In the interim, she approached Asin but it didn’t work out. Salman, despite his ‘split’ with Katrina, has green-lit his sister’s foray into direction, with Kat opposite him.
Alvira’s husband, Atul Agnihotri, said, “To be frank, there’s no one we’d like to see more in this film than Katrina. The truth is that neither Salman nor her has any inhibitions about working with each other. In fact they are already doing a song for Farah Khan’s film. This goes to show how thoroughly professional they both are.
We should be ready to make an official announcement about the casting in a couple of days. The only hitch may be Katrina’s dates, which are still being worked out. We have already decided on an Eid release so everything is being worked backwards from this proposed release date. We’re trying to sort things out and are hoping for the best.”
Is it love again for these two then? Surely it’s been a difficult time for Katrina; despite her alleged dalliances with some co-stars, she cuts a lonely figure in the corridors of tinsel town. Salman, after all, has truly nurtured her talent from her struggling days; it is a gratitude Kat can’t seem to ignore.
Likewise, the split was never acrimonious, even by Sallu’s turbulent standards: neither badmouthed the other. So much so, that Katrina even recently broke down when her broken relationship with Salman was probed into at a recently-held press conference.
From what we hear, Salman is equally happy to have Katrina back in his arms. In fact, he now wants to settle down with Kat as the buzz goes. Says a source, “Salman’s ego might not have allowed him to say so publicly, but he has invested nearly seven years in Katrina now. He may have had his share of flings, but he wants to marry Katrina eventually.”
Jab miya-biwi raazi toh kya karega kaazi? Bodyguard is scheduled to go on the floors in December. It’s also the wedding season incidentally…
