After dating for 12 long years, the couple got engaged secretly in Goa on August 15
Karan leads a blindfolded Bhavana.
On 15th August, unlike the rest of the country, two people swore dependence to each other. Love indeed springs odd surprises on you; Bhavana Balsaver hadn’t expected hers either. After 12 lovely long years of dating Karan Shah, Bhavana Balsaver took a short vacation to Goa with him. But she wasn’t prepared for what came next.
Bhavana recounts, “It was just a holiday in Goa. Karan suddenly proposed to me. It was completely impromptu. He organised this whole surprise for me. We actually went to Goa with some friends for a short vacation. In fact, I realised later that Karan got a lot of strangers to help him organise all that he did for our engagement.”
Karan’s surprise swept Bhavana off her feet. He took her blindfolded to a secluded area that had been pre-decorated with flowers. What followed was a string of pleasantries: music, champagne and finally the rings.
Bhavana is obviously pleased as punch and says, “We have been dating for over 12 years and now we have made it official by exchanging rings. What better place to do it than in Goa. Although the families were not present we have informed them and everyone is very happy.”
Is marriage on the cards then? Bhavana says, “It took me 12 years to get engaged to him, so I don’t know how much time I will take to get married.” No issues, Bhavana. Good things come to those who wait.

After Harman and Priyanka called it quits, a new romance blossomed between their first cousins
Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja
Maninder and Pareeniti
Agreed, Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra’s rashees didn’t match. After dating each other for four long years, the couple called it quits. But with time, hope sprung. Both Harman’s and Priyanka’s first cousins fell in love and started dating each other.
Harman Baweja’s first cousin, Maninder Singh, who lives in Agra, debuted with Ganesh Acharya’s Swami. Priyanka Chopra’s first cousin, Pareeniti Chopra, a graduate from London, works with Yash Raj Film’s marketing team and was part of films like Pyaar Impossible.
The possibilities of Pareeniti’s pyaar however started scaling new heights soon after Priyanka parted ways with Harman.
A source close to the couple says, “Maninder and Pareeniti were introduced to each other a year ago by Harman and Priyanka. They’ve been seeing each other for a while now.”
When contacted, Maninder denied being in a relationship with Pareeniti. “We are very good friends and I treat her like a kid,” he said.
Women look for father figures in their boyfriends. Ever heard of that Maninder? Or is this just a childish denial?
Dressed in a wispy Stella McCartney dress, relaxed at home surrounded by family and dog, Kangna Ranaut basks in the success of her latest film. With her legs folded under her, she looks like a little girl but comes to life and is all-woman when our photographer enters the room. That’s typically her, an actress who can change mood and look in seconds as she talks about her life and where she sees it going.
• Could you ever submit yourself and your career totally to one man the way your character did in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai?
Gosh no, the thought is scary. Thank God we don’t live in those times when we could be told that if we did or didn’t do something we would be shot. I am very happy to be living in the times I do when things are cool and we can date whoever we want to without fear of repercussions. I am in Mumbai because here I have freedom. If I have to be told what to do I would rather live in Manali, with its social pressures.
• So much of freedom and you aren’t even dating?
Trust me I am exercising my freedom but because I am surrounded only by married guys, I don’t get a chance to go on dates. Freedom is not about walking into a club and saying hey, I’m single. I always say that I am late by 10 years in the industry because all our best heroes, directors and producers who I deal with daily are married and have children. Unfortunately, I never meet any businessman, investment banker or engineer, and even if I do all they want is an autograph.
• This seems to make you sad…
Yeah, it is sad at times. I am young and all my friends are dating or getting married but I have been exceptionally unlucky with love. None of my relationships have really worked.
A lot of my friends have been in love for 10 years and are now getting married. But I didn’t meet any guy in school; I grew up and just randomly dated. That’s why I say I have been exceptionally unlucky. Today, I am totally open to somebody match-making for me.
• What have your characters taught you about yourself?
It is weird that whatever I have learnt about myself, my life or other people, it has been through my work. I am not well educated. And though I read a lot even more than that I observe people, see their expressions and emotions and every script and every story tells me so much about life and people. During Gangster itself I realised that I am exceptionally talented. So now I don’t underestimate myself.
The other thing I have learnt about myself is that there are many sides to me. I can be extremely aggressive and I can be extremely tender. And because I have been subjected to the most difficult circumstances at a very young age, I tend to behave like a man most of the time. When I meet a man I act so much like him that I evoke more competition than desire in him. But when I emote romance, a very soft and feminine side to me emerges.
• And from being a part of the film industry…
There is one thing about the film industry that hurts me very much. And that is that the industry on the whole is very partial to its own people. I know that if Gangster had flopped, then, despite my performance, I would have never been given another chance. But I am God’s favoured child so no one can do anything about it. I have a success percentage of 99 per cent which sometimes surprises me too.
Actors who belong to the industry are given chance upon chance till they make it, which is ok, but when there is an exceptional talent, the industry should be kinder to them. It should not be all about babalog and babylog.
There is no doubt that our work is given not only less appreciation but also less respect. Otherwise why would I have been jobless for a year between Life in A Metro and Fashion?
• You were not offered any roles?
I was offered roles but they were all B-grade or C-grade films. Today people are very kind but I remember a time when they would do everything to keep me out of the big league.
• And are you being selective now?
No. I don’t want to only have two films a year. I am in the process of experimentation. I will keep doing comedy, thriller, dancing singing roles, intense characters and romantic love stories so that by the middle of 2012 or so I will know my forte. I am probably the actress working on the maximum films. I have seven releases coming up and am working on five films. If I have signed 15 films, you can figure that I must have been offered at least 25.
• What are your securities and insecurities at this point?
My biggest security is my talent, my passion, my enthusiasm. My inspiration comes from within and I totally ignore people who are negative. When I am low and my father tries to be supportive and says, “You don’t need to do this. Why are you crying and feeling bad? Don’t forget we have a beautiful house, we can go back to it” I am like, “Can you please go from here?” Whenever I am upset my inspiration comes from within. My spirit is all I have.
Like any other person I feel extremely insecure, sometimes. Today I am on my way to doing things that will take me to my goal, the things that will make me happy and feel complete.
But my biggest fear is that what if I get there and then don’t get that feeling? What if I feel this is not what I should have done. Is this the meaning that everyone is looking for in life? That really scares me.
Sonakshi Sinha has broken up with boyfriend Aditya Shroff and is trying hard to not be affected professionally
Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter Sonakshi Sinha, who will be seen romancing Salman Khan in Dabangg, may be happy professionally but her personal life has come to a grinding halt. The actress called it quits with her boyfriend Aditya Shroff (the Head of Programming and the advertising division of Fame multiplexes) two months ago.
A source reveals, “Sonakshi and Aditya were dating each other for over two years. They parted ways two months ago. The couple had a major fight over some internal problem.
Aditya’s behaviour really angered Sonakshi and she decided to part ways with him.
Moreover, the actress didn’t want her personal life to affect her work. So she ensured the relationship ended on a good note.”
Apparently, both Sonakshi’s and Aditya’s families were aware of their relationship, but Sonakshi’s father Shatrughan Sinha never openly acknowledged their relationship.
The couple spent a lot of time with each other despite that and hence have a lot of common friends. Although they have parted ways, they still maintain their friendship and are in touch on and off.
The source adds, “Recently, Aditya was seen at many Dabangg-related events but Sonakshi has now asked him not to be a part of any in future.
She does not want the media to see them together.”
While Aditya remained unavailable for comment, Sonakshi declined to say anything about this.
Now that the couple is trying to give love a second chance, Isha is willing to make amends even at the cost of her career
Not all cricket-Bollywood link-ups go the Harbhajan Singh-Geeta Basra way. India’s fast bowler Zaheer Khan and Bollywood actress Isha Sharvani are back together and are trying to make things work, come hell or high water. In fact, Isha is making serious amendments to her list of priorities, now that Zaheer and she are giving their relationship a second chance.
Isha and Zaheer dated for nearly two years before calling it quits in 2007, post which they didn’t stay in touch. Both of them quietly stepped out of the media glare to get back to their respective careers. Interestingly, neither Zaheer nor Isha was linked with anyone else in these two years of separation from each other. Obviously, the two couldn’t sever emotional ties. Now, they’ve decided to give love another chance.
Though no one knows who initiated the reconciliation, a source close to the couple tells Mumbai Mirror, “Despite splitting up, Isha and Zaheer could never forget each other. Friends in their circle knew that a reunion was inevitable.”
But it’s come at a cost. Though Isha can’t stop smiling after Zaheer came back into his life, she has started taking liberties with her career. Recently, she bunked the shoot of Kingdom Of Dreams in Delhi and she was eventually asked to leave the cast of the musical play.
A source says, “Isha and her fellow actors had been housed in Delhi to shoot for the musical play Kingdom Of Dreams. None of the actors from the play is supposed to leave the set, but Isha did not pay heed to this instruction.
She kept meeting Zaheer in Delhi. Now Isha is out of the project. Producers of Kingdom Of Dreams, Wizcraft International Entertainment, are talking to a new actress Kashmira (she acted in the TV show Amber Dhara) to play Isha’s role now.”
Viraf Sarkari, Director of Wizcraft International Entertainment, confirmed that Isha is out from Kingdom Of Dreams. He said, “She quit Kingdom Of Dreams because of personal reasons.”
So be it. Throwing light on how the reconciliation happened between Isha and Zaheer, a source says, “During one of their meetings in Delhi, they decided to take a call on their personal life.
After sufficient thought, they felt that they should give their relationship another shot.” Isha’s mother, dancer Daksha Seth, was apparently never happy about her daughter’s relationship with Zaheer. That hasn’t stopped Isha.
Zaheer and Isha first met at a function in 2005. The touring Australian team was leaving India and Isha was performing at the event. They got talking and exchanged numbers.
Later, they kept bumping into each other at parties and social dos and were soon drawn to each other. Reportedly, Zaheer even helped Isha find a place in Khar. It was reported that they were even living-in for a brief period.
When contacted, Isha asked what the story was all about. When told to comment on her reconciliation with Zaheer, she chose to remain quiet. She didn’t, as they say, play ball. And neither did Zaheer, who also chose not to comment.
Chandan Roy Sanyal
After impressing his viewers as Shahid Kapoor’s friend in Kaminey, Chandan Roy Sanyal has bagged a role debutants could only dream of.
Chandan has been signed to play the negative lead in Santosh Sivan’s next film Urumi. Chandan will play an evil prince in the 15th century.
When contacted Chandan said, “Yes I am very excited about the film. My executive producer Mubina Rattonsey of Kaminey recommended my name to Santosh.
I play an evil prince and am against my cousin, who is dating a princess (Genelia D’souza); I keep trying to win her over.”
Apparently, Amol Gupte, who was seen with Chandan in Kaminey as well, will now be playing his uncle. And they hate each other (in the film that is).
While talking about the extravagant costumes in the films, Chandan can’t contain his excitement. He says, “I’ll learn horse riding. Since I am playing a prince I will wear good costumes and ornaments. It is quite a stylish role.”
Sonam Kapoor talks frankly about wearing bikinis and kissing, only if the role requires it and of acting with Ranbir post their suspected link-up
• What do you play in Aisha?
I play a naive girl who has a very narrow view of life and does not understand what is going on in the outside world.
• At 26, how would you describe yourself?
Quite like Aisha (laughs). I am still trying to figure out a lot of things and finding my way.
• If still confused, who do you look up to?
Both, my dad and my mum. Also, I have a few friends I trust completely.
• You said you have strong views on selecting films. Do you have a list of dont’s like not wearing a bikini or not kissing?
No. I am talking about roles. But as for your question, well, I won’t do anything provocative. I won’t do anything for the heck of it to sell a film. If it’s taking the story forward, then it’s fine. It’s an ethical stand, I believe.
• Filmmakers have to go through your dad before they come to you.
Not really. My dad is not going to play my role in any film. They come to me. I take a call. I do have strong views in this aspect. But after a certain point, my dad does get in. I don’t want to concentrate on the details that follow.
• Do you check with him before doing a particular role?
Of course. What is the point of having him as my dad? I think that every child looks up to his parents.
• Did you and your sister Rhea argue on the sets of Aisha?
Rhea is very practical and pragmatic. I am very emotional and impulsive. So that makes a good head and heart combination. Such things work, don’t they?
• Are you ready to work with Ranbir after your link up with him in Saawariya?
I have no rules for who my hero is. If my role is good, why not?
• You and Deepika Padukone are not the best of friends, right? You tried to patch up but things didn’t fall in place…
Ranbir and I have been friends. Deepika was Ranbir’s girlfriend. That was the only connection. Right now, I don’t have the time to meet all my friends.
• You once said, “I wish I had a body like Deepika’s”.
Oh, that was just a random statement.
• Ranbir came to you on the sets of Aisha and told you to take him back in your life. Correct?
• Is your father strict?
He is definitely protective about me. He doesn’t want me to do anything wrong. I am not allowed late nights. But then, even I am a very responsible girl.
• Who is your worst critic?
My mum, who doesn’t want me to lose my head.
• You dress up rather well. Is it a self-acquired skill?
(Laughs) It stems from my mother’s side. My mom has been into fashion designing. I love her style. Even my masi is very aesthetically inclined.
• Why is it that you wear so many branded clothes? Industry people say so…
That’s not true. I do wear many vintage clothes too. If required, I will wear a simple sari. I pick up tees and jeans from streets as well.
• Correct me if I am wrong but did you ever wish to be a beauty queen?
Yeah (laughs) I even wanted to be a detective. And then I wanted to be a teacher. At 16, I decided that I want to be a writer. And then, I ultimately felt that I wanted to be an actress.
• Have you met Aishwarya Rai after last year’s fiasco during the Cannes festival?
Yes. I met her at a party and she was extremely gracious and kind. At the end of it, it was all a big misunderstanding
• Shahid Kapoor has got linked up to Amrita Rao (Dil Vil Pyar Vyar), Vidya Balan (Kismat Connection), Priyanka Chopra (Kaminey) and Anushka Sharma (Badmaash Company). How have you avoided that (so far)?
(Laughs) I think that depends on who your producer and director is.
• Are you dating anybody though? There was so much talk of you dating Punit Malhotra during I Hate Luv Storys?
I am very much single. But I wouldn’t like to elaborate.
• The interview would be incomplete if you don’t name your favourite Anil Kapoor film.
That’s the toughest one. I really can’t choose between Woh Saat Din, Tezaab, Beta, Ram Lakhan and Slumdog Millionaire.
The cricketer was seen having a cosy meal with VJ-actress Anusha Dandekar, who claims it was merely friends hanging out. But where were the friends?
VJ and actress Anusha Dandekar was seen in the company of cricketer Irfan Pathan on Thursday night at a suburban five star hotel. Both were having dinner and an animated conversation. A couple of friends also joined them later in the night, but much, much later.
People had already noticed the vibe. When asked Anusha if she was dating Irfan, she denied it, saying, “No, not at all. I know Yusuf (Irfan’s brother) and him really well, so my sisters and I met up with all of them for dinner.”

Anusha further said, “I know both the brothers from before and have known them from a long time.”
However, when asked if Yusuf was also present at the dinner, she said, “No.” Anusha’s sister with a couple of friends only came much later to the dinner. Incidentally the shy Irfan has been linked to many girls in the recent past. He was rumoured to be in love with a girl called Shivangi Dev whom he met during a practice match in Canberra, Australia, in 2003. Irfan was even reportedly engaged her, which he later denied.
Anusha has been single for sometime now. She was earlier dating VJ Rannvijay before they broke off early last year. Are the couple just friends or something’s cooking?
After a series of quarrels, Neha Dhupia and her sportsman beau Ritwik Bhattacharya decide to take a break from each other
All is not well between Neha Dhupia and Ritwik Bhattacharya. The petty bickering between them has reached a point where they have mutually decided to take a break from one another.
A source close to Neha reveals, “Neha and Ritwik have been dating each other for over ten years and have literally grown up with each other. But of late, they have been quarrelling over even small matters and this has resulted in much bitterness. Over the last 2-3 months, there have been reports of them being on and off with each other at regular intervals.”
The source continues, “With the arguments between them escalating, Neha and Ritwik have decided to take a break from each other and concentrate on their respective careers. They feel the distance will help them settle their thoughts and find a solution to their problems.”
|Neha Dhupia||Ritwik Bhattacharya|
The arrangement became apparent when Ritwik, who normally stayed with Neha during his visits to Mumbai, started checking into hotels. “For the past few months, whenever Ritwik has come down to Mumbai, he has stayed at a hotel. Recently Neha had gone to Goa, where she has a holiday home for Ritwik and herself, but this time she was all by herself. At a recent award function in Sri Lanka, Neha was overheard discussing her problems with Ritwik and how she is hoping their relationship can get back to normal. Neha is currently holidaying in Istanbul,” adds the source.
Neha was unavailable for comment.
