Ranbir Kapoor’s world tour hits roadblock?

0

Buzz is, the actor is having serious second thoughts about embarking on his much-hyped world tour co-produced by his dad

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 6, 2012)

Ranbir Kapoor’s much anticipated world tour appears to have hit a major roadblock. Going by industry whispers, the tour that was previously scheduled for August-September 2012 has been postponed to a latter date. And, if rumours are to be believed, it may not happen at all this year.

When contacted, Ali Morani from Cineyug, organisers of the tour, was rather evasive, “Things are not yet in place. The tour will happen but I can’t say when. It may not be this year.” Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor, who is also the tour’s producer, refused to comment on an obviously sensitive subject.

Apparently, Ranbir had second thoughts about embarking on the tour this year. A source told Mirror, “Ranbir took the call. He wants to concentrate only on films, at least for the time being. Any commitment on the world tour would also mean a lot of dates for rehearsals etc. And a lot of filmmakers have been queuing up for Ranbir to star in their projects after Rockstar. So he has decided he’d rather focus on those. The world tour can wait, at least for now.”

This isn’t the first time the tour has been postponed. Originally slated for July 2010 soon after Raajneeti hit theatres, the tour was put off till after Rockstar saw the light of day, as the father-son duo of Rishi and Ranbir felt it needed some foot-thumping songs to be a More >

King Khan to rock opening ceremony of IPL with Shriya Saran

He may not comprehend the language but that’s hardly a deterrent for Shah Rukh Khan. The star will get jiggy to Tamil tracks for his opening ceremony performance at the Indian Premier League 2011 tonight.

As the setting is Chennai, a local flavour is being imparted to King Khan’s show. Popular Tamil tracks have been selected for the star to groove on which will also be a singularly unique experience for him.

All this while he has danced to his B-Town tracks, so watching him move to South tracks will also be a unique experience for the audience.

SRK will do the finale segment of the opening ceremony along with actress Shriya Saran. Their act will also include some of his Bollywood tracks.

The opening ceremony event is being managed by Wizcraft with SRK’s act coordinated by Cineyug.

Says a source, “Shah Rukh will enter the stadium in an army tank. There is a fusion in store for the audience.” The star’s moves are being choreographed by Ganesh Hegde.

SRK & Shriya will get jiggy  to…

The Tamil tracks include… Naakka Mukka which was played during the inaugural ceremony of World Cup cricket Ringa Ringa (not the Slumdog Millionaire track) Appadi Podu

The Bollywood tracks include… The title track of Chak De! India Marjani Marjani and Love Mera Hit Hit from Billu Barber

Also… King Khan will groove to a hip hop track, It’s Awesome, composed by Raju Singh

Informs the organisers that he will be busy shooting in Bangkok. Incidentally Kat and Claudia Ciesla will perform there

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 25, 2011)

Salman Khan, who is currently shooting in Bangkok for Ready, has opted out of the closing ceremony of the 34th National Games show at Ranchi, to be held on Saturday February 26.

The actor sent a word to the organisers saying he will not be available on that day.

Incidentally, Sallu’s ex, Katrina Kaif and his ‘good friend’, German model Claudia Ciesla will perform at the same show.

Meanwhile, Claudia has started participating in the Shah Rukh Khan show Zor Ka Jhatka; an episode with her was aired on February 12.

The show happens to be hosted by King Khan, not believed to be very thick with Sallu.

Confirming that the actor will not make it to the show, a source says, “Sallu may have not wanted to share the stage with Katrina.”

We hear, Salman opted out of the show saying that he will not fly down from Bangkok as was planned earlier and that he was too busy shooting there.

When contacted, Katrina told Mumbai Mirror, “Yes, I am performing, as it was decided two months ago. I was always going to do it. Nobody else was.”

However, Claudia confirmed that Salman was supposed to perform at Ranchi on February 26 but added, rather diplomatically, “Salman was supposed to come. And I know that he is not coming now. But I really don’t know why he backed out.”

No Problem makers already celebrating film’s success

A message inviting the crème de la crème of Bollywood for the ‘success party’ of No Problem was sent out. The film has not even hit the theatres

Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 09, 2010)

Talk about putting the cart in front of the horse! Production houses quoting wrong collections in trade papers, to convey that their films have fared well is stale news. Here’s a revelation.

Last afternoon, Anil Kapoor and B K Modi invited top-notch people from the entertainment industry to attend ‘the success party’ of their yet unreleased film No Problem. Cineyug was to organise the bash.

But the very premise of that bash is questionable. Several people from the industry were shell-shocked at receiving a message that read: ‘12 Dec- 10 pm onwards- B K Modi (Chairman, Spice Group), Spice studios and Anil Kapoor along with the star cast of No Problem, invite you to enjoy the success party of the film. Venue- Spice House, Opposite Royal Garden Hotel, Juhu. Please confirm. Cheers- Cineyug Family’.

A source from the industry said, “Look at the audacity. The film has not hit the theatres yet. Not only has the film’s ‘success party’ been planned; the invitations have been sent out as well. These invitations have been sent out to the top-notch people in the industry to ensure that they keep themselves free on December 12 evening.”

When we called Modi’s office to check what was happening, an official told Mumbai Mirror, “It’s a celebration party on the More >

Shahid in Morani’s world tour?

The Moranis have requested Shahid to join their world tour with Ranbir, Katrina and Priyanka. Will that complete the love quartet?

Mauli Singh (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 18, 2010)

The Morani brothers want to cash in on the newfound, or shall we say rehashed, “friendship” between Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor (please see our story below). The newest addition on the Rishi Kapoor-Morani world tour, with Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and (ahem) Priyanka Chopra, may well be Shahid Kapoor.

Apparently, the Moranis have approached Shahid to be a part of the world tour. A source says, “They are very keen on having Shahid on board because he is a great dancer. He’s in fact better than Ranbir. Getting the two Kapoors to perform together on stage will take the show to another level. Both actors have millions of fans across the globe.”

Surely watching two strapping young lads shake a leg should guarantee a packed audience, but a Shahid-Priyanka dance number on stage would be worth more.

Mohammad Morani, head honcho of Cineyug, doesn’t deny having approached Shahid and says, “It will be good to have Ranbir and Shahid on the same platform, but nothing is concrete yet. It will take nearly another month to finalise everything.”

Despite a text message, Shahid remained unavailable for comment  but his spokesperson says, “Shahid has to work out his shooting and promotion dates for Mausam and then he’ll decide if he can be a part of the show.” One can blame More >

Dev D Got As Many Awards As 3 Idiots; Rahman Picked Up His 25th Filmfare Award; Gowns & Sarees Sizzled Red Carpet

Bella Jaisinghani & Meena Iyer | TNN (THE TIMES OF INDIA; February 28, 2010)

Mumbai: Two vastly different films swept up an equal number of trophies at the 55th Idea Filmfare Awards held at a glittering ceremony at Yash Raj Studios in Andheri on Saturday.

While Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 3 Idiots snapped up the most popular awards—Best Film, Best Director, Best Story, Best Screenplay, Best Dialogue and Best Supporting Actor —Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D won six as well. The Best Actor award went to Amitabh Bachchan for his performance as a progeria afflicted child in Paa, while Vidya Balan walked away with the Best Actress trophy for the same film.

Led by a line-up of stalwarts who turned out in strength, the Hindi film industry raised a toast to its members who hit paydirt at the box-office and won critical acclaim as well. Much to the delight of the spectators, show hosts Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan were back after taking a break last year owing to SRK’s elbow injury. Wasting no time at all, the irrepressible duo launched their antics on the red carpet itself, and kept pulling out the gags thick and fast through the evening. In this, they were ably supported by good friend Karan Johar and actors Siddharth and Shruti. The duo’s wicked reputation has spread far and wide and the pretty blondes who were dancing with them More >

Rani Mukerji refusing to judge in DPL?

Rani Mukerji refuses to judge Dance Premier League until the show’s format is altered By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; November 23, 2009)

All is not well on the sets of Dance Premier League (DPL). The show’s celebrity judge, Rani Mukerji is so flustered with the format of the show that she stormed out of the sets on Tuesday, November 17. The incident happened at a studio in Chembur.

Furthermore, Rani has curtly asked the show’s producers, Cineyug not to make her resume her position as the judge until her demands are met.

Commenting on why Rani is so upset, a source said, “Rani doesn’t want the DPL participants to be eliminated starting this level (Level 5). She is of the opinion that the DPL winner must be chosen from the existing participants.”

Consequently, the channel and the DPL producers Cineyug are in a fix. They are in no position to abide by her diktat as the show has already completed more than 60 per cent of its running time. Also, the format of the show cannot be changed overnight as it will involve a lot of planning.

The vice-president of the channel, Danish Khan, said, “We are only interested in the final product. Cineyug, who make this show for us, will be the right people to talk to you about this.”

Mohammed Morani of Cineyug confirmed the story and said, “I was out of town when Rani walked out of the show. I don’t know why Rani doesn’t want eliminations to happen at this level. We have reached Level 5 in the show and need to carry out the More >
