Harlem Shake gets a Bollywood twist in Hum Hain Raahi Car Ke

Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; March 23, 2013)
The song that became an internet rage will be spoofed — giving it an Indian flavour — in the trailer of the film Hum Hain Raahi Car Ke, which will be released on April 1.
Says director Jyotin Goel, “From American college students to Egyptian protesters and even Australian miners, everyone’s dancing to the song Harlem Shake’s catchy beat. Our version will see Juhi Chawla, Chunky Pandey, Dev Goel and Adah Sharma performing.” And to make it a laugh riot, they have incorporated elements like Spiderman, a gorilla, a khukri-wielding whacko and a loony doctor. Goel explains, “Rather than a rom-com, we would like to call it a com-rom.”
Hum Hai Raahi Car Ke releases on May 24.
Chunky Pandey’s prank on stranger badly misfires
0At a SoBo five-star where he and Jackie Shroff had a meeting, the actor tried to play a prank on a royal visitor but in vain
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 11, 2013)
If at all, his years in the Hindi film industry have only whetted Chunky Pandey’s appetite for pranks. However, this time round, the joke was on him.
The actor recounted the rather funny incident in his inimitable style. Apparently, Jackie Shroff and he had a meeting at a SoBo five star when a luxury car rolled by the poolside. The duo, with Chunky dressed in casual shorts, a t-shirt and flipflops, rushed down to get a closer view of the hot wheels and its hot-shot driver. Turns out the Maharani of Rajkot had arrived in her vehicle. Chunky asked her ladyship if they could borrow her car. And this is what happened subsequently, in the actor’s own words.
“The Maharani of Rajkot was extremely amused when I asked her if we could borrow her car. She proceeded to tell us how the likes of Gandhi-ji and Lord Mountbatten had sat in her car. Well… we had to look the other way,” said Chunky. But why on earth was he dressed up like that? “Come on, I am often dressed that way. Think of it, Jackie and I were looking like car hijackers?” he shot back.
SRK doesn’t want people to read too much into his famous hug with Arjun?
0Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 17, 2013)
It was only the other day that Shah Rukh Khan and Arjun Rampal had hugged each other backstage at an awards function. The cordial note the two had struck in the presence of Chunky Pandey and a couple of other bystanders had not gone unnoticed. It was widely believed that the gesture would probably end a season of frost between the two actors. However, according to sources, SRK is not amused with how the incident has become public knowledge. “He was being civil to Arjun because they were almost face to face. He finds it silly that he seems to have read a bit too much into it,” says a source close to the star. SRK and Arjun, who have reportedly had a fallout during Ra.One, have been avoiding each other since then. “It is unlikely that their friendship will get back to what it was, and it would not be fair to speculate about where it is headed,” says the source, adding, “It is just too much of a co-incidence that this news is going out to the world at a time when Arjun’s film is up for release.” Ouch!
Sajid’s lucky mascot Chunky to do cameo in Himmatwala
0Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 15, 2013)
Chunky Pandey is all set to do a cameo in Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala. Chunkey’s role is a new addition to the story. When contacted, he said that he had started shooting for the film. Added a source, “Sajid feels Chunky is a lucky mascot for him. He was there in two of his earlier films Housefull and Housefull 2.”
Added Chunky, “I love doing cameos. I enjoyed my special appearance in the remake of Dontoo. In Himmatwala, I appear in the opening scene.” This was corroborated by Sajid.
Guests get sentimental at Hrithik Roshan’s yacht party
0Over champagne and chocolate cake, guests at his yacht party fondly recalled the first time they met him
Prachi Kadam and Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 11, 2013)
The party hosted by Sussanne for Hrithik on the eve of his birthday on Wednesday, turned out to be a great opportunity for his friends to sail back in time and recall the first time they met him.
On Sunny Dewan’s yacht that left the Gateway jetty in the evening with the likes of Karan Johar, Gauri Khan, Abhishek Kapoor, Anna Singh, Arjun and Mehr, Preity Zinta, Farah Khan Ali, Chunky Pandey, Sonali Bendre and Goldie Behl to name a few, the Roshans partied till the sun went up and their cool aviators came out.
Hrithik was reportedly a bundle of emotions, greeting his guests with a warm hug, thanking them for making it to his ‘surprise’ party. We hear, he was pretty much clueless about the yacht plan till pretty late in the evening.
The party kicked off with the customary cake cutting – it was a sinful chocolate and strawberry pile – followed by emotional speeches. We hear the effervescent Miss Zinta made one of the longest ones while Sussanne received the max applause as she recounted the first time she met her hubby at a traffic signal.
“It was a small group of people who get along with each other famously,” said a guest on request of anonymity. “A reason why it was such a pleasant affair.”
If Shah Rukh Khan was conspicuous by his absence, it was because he was “rehearsing for an awards show.” At least More >
Saif Ali Khan starts shooting for Bullet Raja with guns
0Iti Shree Misra (BOMBAY TIMES; November 12, 2012)
Saif Ali Khan has started shooting for his role as a don in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Bullet Raja based on the Uttar Pradesh mafia. On Saturday morning, we caught the Nawab leaving from his Lucknow hotel at about 8 am for the location, Kukrail, a picnic spot on the outskirts of the city. Accompanying him were Jimmy Shergill and Chunky Pandey, who also play mafia characters in the movie. Between shots, Saif and Chunky were chatting and joking, while Jimmy was checking out the guns being used for the shoot. Khan was also overheard narrating an incident of a forest trip which he had gone for, during which the guide had got drunk and gone off to sleep.
Sonakshi parties with Virat, Yuvi & Zaheer
0Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 8, 2012)
Some players of the Indian cricket team, having returned home after a disappointing end to their Sri Lanka trip, chose to rejuvenate with good friends from the film industry. Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli were spotted letting their hair down at celebrity manager Bunty Sajdeh’s birthday bash.
The sundowner held at a city hotspot saw a posse of celebrities; Sohail Khan, Malaika Arora, David Dhawan, Avinash Gowariker, Dino Morea, fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, Bhavna and Chunky Pandey, Zoa Morani, designer Masaba Gupta, Abhishek Kapoor and Bunty’s friend Sonakshi Sinha.
According to an eyewitness, the party was a last-minute decision. Virat, who had returned to Delhi, came down specially for the bash. “Virat’s presence was a big gift for Bunty. The song Munni Badnaam Hui was played quite a few times. Malaika would have shaken a leg as well however Arbaaz was busy shooting Dabangg 2,” said the eyewitness. While Virat was on the dance floor for long, Yuvraj turned DJ for a while. A birthday cake was cut especially for the kids who’d come. And all this while, Sona took care of the guests like a co-host for the evening.
Bunty, however, remained unavailable for comment.
KJo-SRK-Gauri-Karisma throng Chunky Pandey’s bash
0Stars dazzled at the actor’s residence for a surprise 48th b’day party, though the electricity gave up midway
Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; September 27, 2012)
Chunkey Pandey celebrated his 48th birthday bash with his friends from the industry on Tuesday night. And when we called him up the next day, he finally answered at 5.55 pm and said, “Good morning, I have just got up.” The birthday boy hadn’t recovered from the night’s revelries. After all, Mirror found out that the bash went on till five in the morning. Hosted by his wife Bhavna, Chunkey’s birthday was a star-studded affair indeed. One of the first few people to arrive was Farah Khan. And then by midnight, A-list actors and filmmakers from the industry started pouring in. “Chunkey had no clue about this surprise party. He took his wife out for dinner at a suburban hotel that evening. After they came back home, he realised that something was afoot. And then the guests started pouring in. There was Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan, Arjun and Mehr Rampal, Karan Johar, Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan, Sameer and Neelam Soni, Goldie Behl with wife Sonali Bendre and even Karisma Kapoor, who incidentally arrived in a Rolls Royce,” said a source from the party.
A heavily pregnant Amrita Arora was accompanied by husband Shakeel Ladakh and sister Malaika Arora Khan. Sohail and Seema Khan were also around. Others spotted at the big bash were Ritesh Sidhwani, Bunty Walia, Karim Morani and Jackie Shroff.

Salman’s buddy dines with SRK?
0Mehul S Thakkar (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 6, 2012)
On Saturday night, fashion designer Anna Singh and husband Jaiveer decided to have a quiet dinner and celebrate the latter’s birthday at a Bandra nightspot. Little did Anna know that she would bump into her buddy Salman Khan’s archrival Shah Rukh and end up having dinner together. Interestingly, it was the same venue where the Khans had fought four years ago and parted ways.
An eyewitness told Mirror, “Anna was with her husband Jaiveer, Chunky Pandey and Suhel Seth. SRK was dining with his friend Karim Morani and Chennai Express director Rohit Shetty at a nearby table.”
Anna, who had always shared a good rapport with Shah Rukh, invited the gang over. “It was very clear that Anna has very high regards for SRK and vice-versa. Jaiveer too seemed to get along famously with the actor,” added the eyewitness.
So what was supposed to be a quiet dinner between friends turned into a private party of sorts. SRK was earlier spotted at Kuki Gulati and Smriti Shinde’s bash at a fivestar in Bandra Kurla Complex. A source revealed that the actor had directly come to the restaurant for a quiet dinner with friends.
LIL driven by clean comedy content-Shekhar Suman
0Shekhar, Chunky and Mika on judging a ‘clean’ comedy show that crosses borders but not the lines of decency
Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; July 28, 2012)
The latest stand-up comedy show on Indian television, Laugh India Laugh (LIL), launched on July 15, is an attempt to choose the best talent among 22 artists from India and Pakistan. LIL makes a conscious effort to deliver the cleanest form of comedy sans double entendre. That said, it is more fun than a chore for judging trio Shekhar Suman, Chunky Pandey and Mika, who have a blast watching the talented participants showcase hilarious acts. There’s never a disagreement as they laugh in unison at the acts put up by the contestants. And while it takes an intelligent joke and biting satirical wit coupled with an insightful look at society to tickle Shekhar’s funny bone, Chunky and Mika claim that they can laugh even at the silliest joke.
JUDGES: HOWS AND WHYS Shekhar: LIL is one of the few comedy shows to be solely driven by clean comedy content. Chunky: While I have judged a dance reality show before, this is my first show in the comedy genre. I don’t profess clean comedy and leave that bit to Shekhar. Mika: I have participated in three shows — dance and music reality shows and a game show and was waiting for the right show for my return to TV. I had consciously stayed away. I am not saying that judging a show is bad but it should have something new to offer. With this show, I hope India gets a reason again to More >
