Salman to open his first eatery

0

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; April 19, 2011)

Salman Khan’s love for food is a well known fact. Stories of the Khan’s hospitality are legendary. “Nearly two dozen people eat with Bhai at the lunch table each day,” say unit hands. “Food from Salman’s house is easily the best that is served up in Bollywood.”

So news that Salman is planning to open a chain of eateries is not surprising.

But it is not just a commercial food chain. Our source says, “Salman is planning to open a Being Human cafe. The first one is likely to open in Bandra close to his residence. The property on which the cafe opens will be bequeathed to the trust and the proceeds from the food sale will also be used for charity.” Salman is likely to personally supervise the menu for the cafe and it will have some of his favourite dishes. It is also being said that after the Being Human cafe in Mumbai kicks off, Salman may actually scout for properties in the various other cities to establish a chain.

Salman to appear on KJo’s show

Also in talks for a film for KJo’s banner

Prithwish Ganguly (BOMBAY TIMES; March 29, 2011) Karan Johar is wooing Salman Khan. And has succeeded to an extent. It is learnt that the actor has agreed to be part of Karan’s TV show in its third season. The last time KJo asked him to sit on the infamous couch, the actor said he would do it only if he was given Rs 50 lakh for his charity foundation. The My Name Is Khan director told him that the channel wouldn’t pay but he would be happy to shell out the money from his own pocket. However, the talks fizzled out.

Now KJo who is shooting the final few episodes for this season, asked Salman for the last time if he would appear on the show, and the temperamental actor said he would do it, and also gave temporary dates for the shoot, either 30th or 31st March. Apparently, Karan and the channel have donated over Rs 50 lakh to Salman’s charity foundation. Incidentally, no other guest on the show has been paid for making an appearance.

According to sources, the filmmaker has also offered a role to the actor, which he is considering. This is interesting because so far Khan who lives in Galaxy has been wary of Karan because of his friendship to the Khan who lives in Mannat. Now that the director has managed to get Sallu to say yes to the show, and a ‘maybe’ to the film, next step is a patch between the warring Khans? Let’s hope so.

I’ve been a responsible child-Diana Hayden

Hurt by rumours that paint her as a heartless daughter, Diana Hayden talks about the bond she shares with her dad…

Shaheen Sheikh (BOMBAY TIMES; March 28, 2011) It was a hectic week for city girl and former Miss World Diana Hayden, who was in Hyderabad on Wednesday to lend her support to a charity for critically-ill children. But as the beauty queen was on her way back to Bangkok to resume shooting, rumours began to fly fast and furious about how she left without visiting her ailing father, who had just suffered a massive heart attack and was admitted to a city hospital. Detractors also went to town about how Diana, who allegedly parted ways with her dad years ago, does not help him financially even though he is not well off. Clearing the air, a rather distraught Diana, gets candid as she speaks about her life, relationships and career.

It has been alleged that you didn’t meet your critically ill father or foot his bills… What was said about me was nasty, cruel and unnecessary. I was on my way to Bangkok when my father was taken to the hospital. If this had happened while I was in Hyderabad, it would have been ridiculous of me to not have changed my flight. It is an emotional situation. It leaves me helpless and frustrated. But making a choice to come back to Hyderabad now is tough. It will disrupt shooting which has already fallen back and the whole team will be affected by my absence. I may be perceived as selfish, but my being home More >

Bharati Dubey and Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 16, 2011)

Salman Khan and the entire unit of his forthcoming film Ready returned home on Tuesday morning after a 40-day schedule in Bangkok. And with them came the big news:

There’s a new woman in the star’s life. Or rather, she has made a comeback in the star’s life.

Fed up going back and forth with Katrina, it seems Sallu is giving his old love a second chance. Somy Ali with whom he shares old passions and an abiding friendship joined the  star during the last leg of the shoot, much to the unitwallahs bemusement.

Salman at the airport on Tuesday morning returning from Bangkok.

While the rest of the crew stayed at Hotel Sukumvit, Sallu and Somy stayed at the luxurious Hotel Landmark.

Ali, who is based in the United States, arrived in Bangkok end of February and stayed on till the star’s return to Mumbai.

“She and Salman spent a lot of time together after the day’s shoot would get over.

They were seen shopping in various places in Bangkok and looked happy and comfortable like two people who have been with each other for many years,” a source from Bangkok confirmed.

“All through her stay Salman was very protective of Somy. She did not come on the sets but he was with her all the time after the shoot.

They were quiet discreet, he didn’t want to be in More >

Underprivileged kids in India get shot at better life

Prithwish Ganguly | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; January 24, 2011)

It cannot get any bigger or better than this! Two icons of Bollywood and a heavyweight Hollywood A-lister are coming together to support the cause of education among the underprivileged in India. Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Judi Dench will be working in tandem to promote education among the low-income groups of the country with the sole aim that when these kids become bread-winners, they will have a better life and in turn provide better opportunities to their children.

And bringing these top actors together is none other than the Oscar-winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty. His foundation has been silently working towards bettering the socio-economic conditions of the poverty struck groups but he believes that the time has come to go top gear. “It is unimaginable that even in the 21st century there is rampant illiteracy in India. We are making our presence felt in the world and this aspect is something that should definitely be tackled. Along with economy and cultural boom, India should not be spoken as a country that is also illiteracy stricken,” Resul told BT.

He added, “Without Amitabh Bachchan’s blessing, my project would have not started at all. He has helped me with funds and goodness. It is time to implement new things. Just when I was planning different things, Judi Dench came to my rescue. She had More >

Aamir’s guru-dakshina to Salman

0

BOMBAY TIMES (January 20, 2011)

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is mighty impressed with his best friend and Bollywood’s currently mostin-demand actor Salman Khan. These two Khans who love each other keep exchanging notes on several topics. It is an internationally known fact that Salman is a very accomplished painter. His paintings are often auctioned for huge amounts; and the proceeds go towards charity. Now it so happens that Aamir plays a painter in his next release Dhobi Ghat.

Aamir knew he wouldn’t look convincing as an artist if he didn’t actually dabble with art seriously for a few weeks before he went on set. Since he knows Salman is a fabulous artist, he actually decided to take painting lessons from Sallu. A source says, “For a few weeks, Aamir was the diligent student; Salman was his art guru.’” As is the custom, at the end of his coaching, Aamir needed to give Salman a guru-dakshina. So he gave Salman a painting that he made. Those who have visited Salman’s home say that the actor has put up the painting behind his bar. And he is proud of his student.

Of course Aamir himself is very modest about this art. He was reportedly heard saying, “I’m an amateur; no patch on Salman when it comes to art. I have put up Salman’s ‘Ghajini’ sketch in my drawing room. Everyone who walks in, praises the sketch. However, my own painting that Salman has no magnanimously displayed is so esoteric, that even I don’t know what exactly it More >

Ashmit will help Veena carry out awareness campaigns for her charity in Pakistan that works for thalassemia patients.

The two will travel across India and Pakistan to bring awareness about the disease among the people.

A thalassemia minor himself, Ashmit confirmed the news, “We are indeed going to carry out this program.

We also plan to provide monetary help to the patients, as the treatment is very expensive. The other details are yet to be worked out about this drive.”

We wish them all the best in their noble cause.

Hrithik’s message to Sallu: Heroes don’t gloat

While Bhansali has retired hurt, Guzaarish hero Hrithik Roshan wants to cure Salman Khan of his nastiness with a jaadu ki jhappi and kindly words. We get you the lowdown

Kunal M Shah and Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 03, 2010)

Salman Khan’s acerbic comments on Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Guzaarish have stirred a hornet’s nest. While Bhansali, stung by his one-time friend’s words, has retired hurt, shutting himself off, Guzaarish hero Hrithik Roshan is fuming.

As reported by us on Thursday, Salman had at an awards function to felicitate the handicapped accused Bhansali of exploiting the physically challenged for his art, and trashed Guzaarish for its poor box office collections.

“If such an old and trusted friend can be so insensitive I don’t want anything to do with the entertainment industry,” Bhansali told us before begging off from commenting further on the matter.

But his lead actor Hrithik Roshan has been irked enough to connect with us. “I’ve always known Salman to be a good man, someone I’ve looked up to and admired and still do. He’s always been a hero and always will be.

But yes, it’s not heroic to laugh or make fun of a filmmaker just because his box office collections are not up there with yours. Guzaarish is a super success in its own way. And I will be hurt if anyone talks like this about Mr Bhansali. In my opinion a hero never gloats. When you are super successful, it should in fact make you more More >

Salman Khan on the ‘big’ development happening on Indian TV tonight

Team BT | TNN (BOMBAY TIMES; November 15, 2010)

Last week she scored a 10 doing the tango and rumba in Tel Aviv with Australian dancer Damian Whitewood for Israel’s reality show Dancing With the Stars. Just before that, she addressed students at Oxford on vegetarianism. Then, after posing nude in New York for the January issue of Playboy — her 11th cover for the magazine, she upset hardline Islamic groups by offering to donate that fee to a charity helping Indonesian disaster victims. And now, at 43, the former Baywatch star and sex symbol Pamela Anderson is entering the controversial Bigg Boss house in Lonavala tonight as a wild card entry meant to take the reality show’s TRPs sky high. The buzz is that she will be in for three days only, from Tuesday to Thursday, for which Pamela is being paid an astronomical Rs 2.5 crore, which is reportedly twice the amount paid to any other contestant.

With Pamela’s imminent entry, we wonder what’s going in the minds of Ashmit Patel, Hrishant Goswami, Manoj Tiwari, Sameer Soni and the Great Khali! The mercury indoors is sure to soar with the entry of Hugh Hefner’s most famous playmate; after all, she has the body and attitude to kill for. The men inside (and outside the house, as well) must be hoping that she will bring her bootylicious body to the swimming pool to tan her curves in the warm Indian sun. And while Veena More >
